I started taking Loestrin 24 FE March 2008-everything was OK up until the first 3-4 months; my mood had changed from my normal happy free-spirited self to angry and emotional over everything-most of the time for no reason-I felt anxious and nervous during these months. It was not a good feeling. I went to my doctor and she advised these "early symptoms" were normal and would go away in a few months These symptoms did eventually get better but never fully went away. Also, I had a change in my weight; I was a size 6-8 and had losst weight and my appetite decreased. I wasn't happy about that; I didn't want to lose weight; I was happy with my size. Throughout this time, I noticed my hair had stopped growing and became very short in the back, crown and front areas specifically. I've never had a problem with hair growth. My hair has never been like this and it all dates back to starting Loestrin 24 FE last March. It will be a year next month and I've decided this will be my last month taking any form of oral contraceptive birth control. I believe we all know our bodys and BC isnt the only thing that can cause hair loss; but I know for me, this started as a result of the pill. I get regular physicals and even had a check-up with a Thyroid Specialist (just in case) every thing was normal; as it had been years before taking this pill. I'm going to monitor my changes for the better once I stop this pill. I'm sure my hair will grow back because it's not damaged; it just won't grow right now due to these uncontrollable hormone levels. My weight and appetite will return and I will feel better about my decision. The only good thing I experienced was my cycle was predictable; it was initially 1-2 very light days and I knew when I would come on my cycle. I haven't had a cycle since Oct. 2008 but this is also a symptom and very common. I'm not pregnant because I had my blood checked. These two good points aren't as important as the problems I've experienced. I wish us all luck!!!!

I stopped taking yaz 4 months ago and started taking Loestrin. I was on yaz for 2 years and after so many side effects I stopped taking it. It's been a week now that I've noticed my hair is coming out in my hands when I take a bath. I counted the strainds and it's around 30 to 40. I'm so worried because I love my hair what should I do. I've been on Loestrin for about 4 months.

Hi, I have been taking lisinopril 2.5 mg for a little over a year now. I am 20 years old and had high blood pressure for my age so my doctor prescribed me to a low dose (2.5 mg) of lisnopril. I didn't think much of it at first because I figured my doctor had prescribed it and knew what was best for me, so I have been taking it over a year now.
The past couple days, I've started to think more about things and am wondering if the lisinopril has anything to do with it. I have definitely noticed that my hairline is receding faster and my hair, especially in the front of my head, is thinning. I have also gained weight over the past year and cannot seem to get any weight off. I never had these problems of losing hair or gaining weight before I started lisinopril.
My question is could the lisinopril, even with the low dose of 2.5 mg that I'm taking, actually cause these types of things to happen?
If anyone reading this could please reply to me and let me know, I would appreciate it so much because I am really worrying about this. Thanks.

I was on Yasmin for 2 years and it was 2 years too long! I should have stopped taking it immediately. I experienced EXTREME HAIR LOSS!!!! It started to fall out as soon as I started taking the pill, but I was also coming off Depo Provera and thought it was the Depo causing the hair loss. This happened in 2 different cycles. The first time, A LOT of hair fell out and I was humiliated. After about 6 months, some hair grew back; but my hair was still extremely thin and you could see most if not all of my scalp in strong lighting (outdoors for example). About 8 months later, it fell out again...this time worse than ever because I had about half of the hair I used to. I think I was literally lost 3/4 of my hair this time. Most if the hair loss was on the top of my scalp and every doctor I saw had something different to say. In the beginning stages of the hair loss, they said it was stress. Then when they saw it progress and they realized how much hair I had lost on the top of my scalp, I was told I had female pattern baldness...only no female in my family had ever experienced this before. Finally, I went off the pill and WOW...I HAVE HAIR AGAIN and it is probably close to what I had before I ever lost any of it. Oddly enough, Yasmin is used to prevent hair loss; as it is prescribed for women who have higher testosterone levels...yet it caused me to lose mine. I also gained A LOT of weight on that pill!
I have been off of Yas for about 6 months now and my periods are definitely less than regular. I won't get my period for 3 months and all of a sudden I am getting it every 2 weeks. I also have cysts on my ovaries and I thought I had Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which can also cause hair loss, but the doctors are quite positive that I don't have PCOS and that it is not what led to the hair loss.
Moral of the story...unless you have to go on a pill that is designed for lowering your testosterone levels (and I recommend Diane 35 if so), do not take Yas! If I ever go on the pill again, I am sticking to something like Alese that is low-dose.

Here is our daughter's story, and believe me the tears are pouring down my face as I am writing this.
Our daughter, who had completed her series of 3 vaccinations has been experiencing considerable hair loss. Her first shot was in May 24, 2007, the second on July 26, 2007 and the third and final on November 27, 2007.
Here are the other specifics....our daughter was 13 turning fourteen.
She has had every blood test imaginable to rule out the obvious which may cause hair loss such as thyroid disease, polycystic ovary disease, diabetes, and the list goes on and on. Everything came back negative. We even have a future appointment scheduled with a rheumatologist this coming November 08. We have seen the Endocrinologist and two dermatologists (a scalp biopsy proved negative to any infection, disease, etc. Granted, she had a typical amount of stress during the school year, as any young teen would, but nothing to cause this. Everyday our daughter says to us, "you should see how much hair fell out in the shower today". She's so afraid to brush or comb it because of the extreme shedding. She literally, to date has half the amount of hair she had one year ago. Let me tell you she had beautiful hair. The hair loss is becoming quite visible at the forward part of her scalp. This has been devastating, hair is everything to a teen. (to anyone this is devastating) We must also mention that her periods have been totally out of whack. She went 6 months at one point without one. It finally came back, but it is so sporadic, getting every two weeks, at times extremely heavy, etc...
She also complains of intermitent dizziness. We are reporting this to Merck today (the Co. who makes this horriffic vaccine), along with the FDA. If anyone else is experiencing anything close to what we are, we all need to pull together and make the public aware of what's happening so we can prevent this from happening to our loved ones.
Please share your experiences. Feel free to write me if someone you know is going through this same tragedy.

I hope someone can help. I am 42 year old female and I have been on Lisinopril 9 years. I now take 5mg daily, down from 10 when I first started taking it after developing cardiomyopathy. Lately my ever constant post nasal drip is worse, my throat is sore, headaches daily. I clog the sink daily with the hair I lose after the shower. My GP doc has done loads of tests on my head to check causes of headaches but all is normal. Never mentioned maybe 9 years straight on Lisinopril could be the problem. Of course I can't see my cardiologist for weeks. Any one experience the same?

I started Topamax in November of 2007 the usual 25mg and worked my way up to 150mg. I have always had pretty thick hair and now have hair loss in the widows peak and top part of my hair. Needless to say I am devastated. I have cut myself down to 50mg in the am and 50 mg in the pm. My Neurologist states that she has not heard of hair loss but even this web site and the drug company states that it can cause hair loss. I have with the help of a very good massage therapist determined that my migraines are cervical so I am seeking a second opinion and taking myself off this drug. Not worth the hair loss if I don't need to be on this drug.

I have had EXTREME hair loss and I did not know what from. I never thought it was my advair. I checked all of my other medications and only one other one said there was a possibility of hair loss (PREVACID) so I went off of that but my hair was still falling out. I have been so desperate that I scheduled and appointment to see a dermatologist tomorrow. Today I happened to google "advair/hair loss" and I cannot believe all of the articles that came up with people expressing the correlation.
I have been so depressed from this hair loss. I had the thickest, shiniest hair and now I barely have a pony tail. I wear hats all of the time because I am embarrassed. It has been totally devastating.
What I need to know is which other asthma medication will NOT cause hair loss so I can switch? Too bad I just dropped $100 on a 3-month supply of Advair and now cannot use it.
Also, those of you who went off the Advair, how long did it take for you to experience hair growth or it not falling out?

I have been on Toprol 5 years. 50mg. it works for me but since it went generic,I wonder...I am on 10mg lexapro and December started the vivelle-dot for my hotflashes. It is now June and the last 4 weeks my hair is falling out big time.
It is so thin I have to wear a scarf as not to scare small children at work.!! :)
I have talked to a couple of hairdressers and they have told me many of they're clients with thinning hair were on Toprol.
Anyone heard of this? Please help me figure this out.

I've been on Toprol for many years due to the Synthroid medication makes my heart race and the Toprol slows it down. I've gone on the generic Toprol, the Metoprolol Tartrate and since I've gone on that, I've notice a lot of hair loss. I never dreamed this med would cause hair loss. Then I read that sheet that comes with the med and it said hair loss is one of the side effects. Has anyone else experienced this? My hair is coming out a lot and it's scary.

Ok, the facts seem to be out and I am convinced of the cause.Hair loss, I was taking zoloft and was prescribed wellbutrin in addition to pick up my energy level. The wellbutrin seemed to be effective for increased energy, however my hair has been falling out so quickly I am afraid to brush or wash it.I am convinced after reading this an other posts the wellbutrin is to blame. For me the the bit of added energy isn't worth losing my hair over.I will be flushing the rest down the big white!

I don't see that many people have stated that NR has caused hair loss. Well it has cause hair loss for me. Naturally, I have thick hair so it isn't noticeable (yet). It's not like shedding, It's very long strands that are coming out when I comb my hair and it is alot. I've also notice that I have aches in my hands, legs, and feet. One day I was getting dress to go out, I was sticking my foot in my pump and my foot locked up on me. My toes shifted as if they were dislocated. It was nasty looking to the point that I turned my head, well I kept trying to wiggle it to get it back in place and it did. I also have bad headaches and eye twitching......Someone let me know of some other great (non-permanent) birth control.

I started taking Lotensin 4 years ago after a Heart Attack, and shortly after I to notice my hair coming out from the root. I told the doctor and all he said was that no one else spoke of hair loss.
The next time I went to him I took the zip lock bag full of my hair, he just looked at it still no change in medication. I went home ad research all of the medication that I was taking and found that Lotensin and Zocor, could cause hair loss.
I went to Dermatology and they checked my hair roots and found them to be perfectly health, I have never had a perm or dyed my hair. He gave me a list of medications that have been known to cause hair loss. By this time I had lost half of my hair.
I stopped taking the medication and my hair stopped coming out. It is growing back but extremly thin to the piont that you can see through it when it is down. (I am female)
I have also suffered from muscel and joint pain for 4 years and this is daily.

oh, great! (sarcasm)...i was switched to diovan after my previous meds (olmesartan medoxomil) sp?--it's known as benicar at the pharm--started causing a bad side-effect--some possible muscle damage, i was told. not sure how bad but i had some bloodwork done to check liver function b/c i mentioned to the doc that i have muscle cramps, body aches as though i ran a marathon...just a bit of soreness and tingling sensation on my extremeties when I lay on one particular side. these were tolerable side-effects compared with the constant coughing with lisinopril. goodness...if the high blood pressure doesn't kill you first, the numerous side effects from these drugs surely will! can anyone else here tell me more about diovan before i take this new poison masquerading as medicine? with the benicar, i did notice bloating and some wt gain--or, it's just harder to shed pounds. what other bp meds are out there that aren't ace inhibitors? i'm dreadful of drugs that cause hair-loss :P
anyway, to those that are on any meds....never miss your follow-up visits even if your medication is "working" for you. get a blood test just to make sure there aren't really any abnormal readings. best of all, if you have to keep switching and trying out meds to find the right one, do insist from your doc that they give you free samples first...like a months worth, as these arb's sure aren't cheap.

MORE ADVICE AND SUPPORTED NEEDED FROM THOSE WHO HAVE STOPPED YASMIN!
I have been off of Yasmin for almost 2 months (after 3 years), still no period, mood swings and SEVERE HAIR LOSS! I can totally get over not having a period, but the HAIR LOSS IS FREAKING me out and is causing major anxiety and depression. I haven't been able to make it through an entire day of work and couldn't even make it an hour while out shopping today. I feel like my anxiety may be turning into some type of panic disorder. My boyfriend doesn't want to be around me and no one believes me! I am so scared that I am losing my life- it's ruining everything- my job, my social life and my relationships. The doctors don't seem to think Yasmin has any link to causing anxiety or how stopping it can cause hair loss. How do I know if it is just the Yasmin getting out of my system or something more serious?

UPDATE OF GYN APPT AFTER STOPPING YASMIN!! (REVISED)
Note: Disregard previous message from me, b/c it got all messed up!
Well, I had my GYN visit today. I told her about the symptoms I have been having since I stopped Yasmin 7 weeks ago- hair loss, dry skin, hair growth (on chin and chest), increased acne, no period, etc. She says that I just have anxiety which is causing my hair to fall out. She says that stopping the pill doesn't cause hair loss and being on the pill should not have caused the amount of anxiety I have. When I told her that while on yasmin my blood pressure, cholesterol and heart rate had increased she said nothing. When I told her that my potassium was low while on Yasmin (the most common side effect due to the diuretuc), she said nothing. She just kept going back to anxiety. How can anxiety cause hair to fall out from my head and grow everywhere else? After a lot of persuasion, she agreed to run hormone tests to check my testosterone and DHEA. But she siad that if they were normal, then nothing was wrong and I should see a therapist. She refused to believe that any of my problems could have been caused from being on Yasmin. I cried for an hour after my appt and couldn't return to work. Am I really just crazy???

Significant hair loss has caused thinning around my face & entire hair line. Within weeks of taking Ambien CR... Woke up daily with headaches, mood changes, depression.....
I am a licensed NYS Cosmetologist. I know what is normal hair loss & what is not. It started with itching on my whole scalp, there was a lot of white greasy almost dandruff substance on my scalp. It didn't flake off like normal dandruff though. Then I noticed my hairline was not what it would normally be. Each time I brushed my hair the brush was filled with more hair daily... I stopped taking the Ambien CR, the itch went away almost immediately & so did the hair loss. I thought I'd give it one more try & took 1 pill one night. The next day the itch came back, so did the white greasy substance on my scalp & my hair started to fall out again.......... Went to my Dr told her what was going on & she didn't even blink, just asked if I wanted something else for sleep. I said no thank you not after this experience. Went back on Advil PM, not sleeping as well as I was, but at least my hair isn't falling out any more. Just keep hoping it will grow back in, has anyone had their hair grow back???
