hi everyone, i hope youre all ok
i made the decision to come off Yasmin last Sunday as it was making me so unwell, and so depressed
but i haven't really felt that much better; i still feel constantly nauseous and my period that started when i was on Yasmin seems to never be ending
i also feel extremely depressed and not myself at all
does anyone know how much longer it will last? im guessing its just the hormones trying to get back to normal?

I used to take Tri-cyclin pills for about 2 and a half years. Then I went off the pill completely for about 3 months and started developing moderate acne on my face and chest. To get rid of the acne I recently started taking Yasmin. I have only been on Yasmin for a couple weeks now and I've noticed the acne on my face has gotten worse. I'm wondering if this is only temporary, because Yasmin is known to clear up acne? If anyone has experienced similar symptoms or knows what the problem is, please let me know.

Thanks!

I was searching for a site with the side effects of Singulair for my son who is 10 and has been taking Singulair since he was 2. It was a life-saving drug for him and his life has been wonderful since then (as far as asthma goes). He is a very athletic boy who plays every sport he can and he is still a little overweight with cellulite and love handles. I had heard that maybe it might be the Singulair so I decided to check it out. Little did I know about all of these other side effects. He's been taking it for so long that I assumed his depressed personality was just the way he was. He has also had such horrific nightmares and he's convinced he has a ghost in his room that shakes his bed that I was really starting to consider that maybe he might. His brother sleeps in the same room and does not have any of these experiences (also on Singulair). I am SHOCKED! I only read about 20 entries but I'm going to read more. Has anyone had the weight gain problem? Thank you for anything you can share.

I am 21 years old and I was on Yasmin for three in a half months (i stopped the last pack half way through). The first month i was on it, i had a lot of leg pains especially at night and sometimes to the point where i couldn't sleep. I went to the doctors and told her about this and she said it had nothing to do with the pill. My leg pain stopped after the first month i was on it and for two months i was fine. At the end of the third pack i began to get leg cramps again, but this time it was different i had little sharp pains here and there and tingling and my legs became extremely itchy. In the matter of two months i got spider veins and cellulite on my upper legs. Before the pill i had NOTHING on my legs. I searched the internet and found that birth control can cause spider veins because of the hormonal change so I thought my legs were itchy because of the spider veins so i stopped using the pill and made a doctors appointment. Three days after stopping i got my period for the second time that month. I also broke out with lumps that are red and extremely itchy. The doctor told me that the bumps are eczema and i also have a lymph node, which she said is from the eczema (which i find very strange). Two days after i broke out and got a lymph node, i got sick with a fever, extremely soar throat and a swollen neck. Today is my 7th day off the pill and im still sick. Hopefully i get better. But from being a 21 year old whos 95 pounds and having nothing wrong and starting this pill and getting spider veins, cellulite and then eczema all around the same time, i feel like im aging before my time. If anyone else has had any similar effects please let me know. Thank you.

I cannot tell you how relieved I am to have found this site! I have been taking YAZ for just over 4 months. I started it to try to lessen menstrual flow, not for birth control as I already have my tubes tied. I am a former professional athlete and very in-tune with my body. I am currently 43 and had my tubal at 29.
I started having issues fairly early on, but they were gradual, yet intense. Two things showed up - memory loss and extreme mood swings. I started having difficulty remembering the simplest things and would forget parts of conversations had only minutes earlier. Then the mood swings started. I am a very stable person, even around my period. I began having suicidal thoughts for no reason at all. One day fine, the next day wanting to end it all.

I have put on 14# in the 4-month period, visible cellulite now on my thighs. Vaginal dryness, brown gunky, pasty residue after my period (which never actually stopped) and decreased sex drive.

I called the doctor and stopped taking them as of today after finding this site!

I have been on Loestrin 24 for 2 years!! And I am finally getting off... and so happy to find this site! I have had to be put on Topamax because my migraines became so bad, which helped my weight gain (that I attributed to my own depression that I thought was my own fault!) I didn't even realize bc could cause depression but it all makes sense! I came on here to find out if Loestrin has been the cause of my SEVERE HAIR LOSS over the past year and a half! When I started taking it, I was also going through a stressful situation and thought that was the cause, but have now realized that my life is back to normal that something else must be causing it. I tried to get my Dr. to take me off of Loestrin about a year ago due to the EXTREME nausea, dizziness, headaches and fatigue that it was causing and he decided that I should just be put on Topamax because I was just a Migraine sufferer! What a nightmare. I can't wait to switch tomorrow!!

i have been on Yaz for almost two months and i am stopping this pill after i finish this pack. at first i thought it was great, but did not consider that the reason i got a severe bacterial pneumonia, as that it might have to do with this pill. when i read from the makers of Yaz itself that a number of trial patients came down with a URI and that it may or may not be the result of the pill, it started adding up.

so i got through that and now i am still dealing with nausea that lasts all day some days. i am also having some stomach cramping and my stools have recently been very dark, which is unusual.

i don't feel that it is helping my PMS. My first period was lighter, but the kind of cramping it caused was different and still very painful for me.

i just don't get a good feeling about this one and don't like the idea that it affects your kidneys processing of potassium to the point where you have to get your blood checked for elevated levels.

also, i had a certain amount of cellulite that seemed to appear within a short amount of time. i don't like this at all. i didn't have that before. i had a little, but now it is like doubled.

i am also having dizzy spells and blurred vision and since i have fibro, i have noticed that i am in more pain lately.

so goodbye to Yaz. no more BC for me. this just motivated me to try and balance my hormones doing everything i can naturally.

I received a Kenalog injection in December '06 to provide relief from an allergic reaction. My doctor did NOT inform me of any possible side effects other than drowsiness. Two months later a small dipple formed where the shot was given. I had no idea what it was and just assumed it was a part of getting older (I'm 30). When it began to get deeper, I became extremely worried. It has now been 6 months and the dimple has turned into a very large indentation. I still did not put two and two together and did not think it could have been caused by the steroid injuection. I visited my doctor, the same one who administered the shot in December, to find out what this could possibly be. He said he had no idea!! And even suggested it could be cancer!!!! I came home upset, obviously, thinking I was very sick, possibly even dying!! My sister did some research and found this site, and I am so relieved. But now I am angry at my doctor for not warning me of this possible side effect at the time of the shot AND then diagnosing it as a possible cancer!!! So now I am left with this deformity on my butt and a profound feeling of helplessness. Someone please tell me actions you have taken that have worked, both legally and physically. Will this go away?!?

hi charity.
I think that this site is as good as any in demonstrating the side affects of yasmin.
But you should not wait for your doctor to confirm or dispute that your problems are due to yasmin. Most doctors do not agree that yasmin can cause this. But you and how you feel while you are on it are the proof.
Perhaps your hormone balance was different before you had your daughter. That is why yasmin suited you.
Weight gain was definitely one problem i had with yasmin. As sson as i stopped taking it the weight went. All the weight i put on was around my waist and hips. I also had cellulite which i never had before and which is now gone.
Sex drive was non existent while i was on yasmin. I was like a zombie.
And of course as you can see from all the other posts here anxiety is the major side effect all of us experienced.
So waiting for your doctor to tell you what to do is no good.
You must decide yourself according to how you feel.
I suppose our hormone levels change from time to time and what suited us 2 years ago may not suit us any longer.
I personally am using naprotechnology for contraception. This is a completely natural form of family planning. You learn to know the time you are ovulating and either avoid sex at that time or use condoms.
I trust it completely now and wish i had found out about it years ago.
Whatever you decide i wish you well. We have all been where you are now.
Best of luck

YES! I had those "balloons" which means "legs", too!! I never had any problems with cellulite or swelling of ancles and such, but under Yasmin my whole legs started looking like they were pumped full with water!!

It's going back very slowly (I've been off Yasmin 1,5 years now!!), as the whole weight does, which I put on under Yasmin!! But finally my legs start looking like "legs" again! And my whole body does also finally start looking "normal" again and not longer like a big water ton!!

I've been on Yasmin for 2 years (the only bcp I've ever been on). I gained 10 pounds even though I run every morning and I'm a fanatic when it comes to eating healthy and nutritious - I'm a health nut. The weight gain seems to be associated with water retention - basically I'm PUFFY. Especially in my legs. I developed CELLULITE - even though I had no cellulite before I took Yasmin and even though I'm a health nut who works out pratically every day. The irony is that Yasmin, unlike other pills, has a duretic - its supposed to maintain your weight by making you pee all the time to eliminate any water retention (that's why when Yasmin first came out everyone was making such a big deal about its connection to weight loss). With me, it was the total opposite. Other side effects: dry throat, dry throat, dry throat. I'd wake up thirsty.

I'm off Yasmin now - and off bcp's totally. I figure this: the hormones they put in these pills are synthetic - they're fake. They play games with our mind - manipulating the brain to cause certain effects and conditions. Somehow playing with mother nature just seems beyond unnatural. Barrier methods aren't the greatest but its better than nothing. And here is some food for thought: heart disease is the number one cause for death among women - I wonder how many of those women were on oral contraceptives. after all, haven't there been studies to suggest that long term use of oral contraceptives affects the heart??? I wonder.

Ok everyone. I need some advice desperately......
I'm at my wits end. Someone please help me....
I've posted numerous times already about the terrible weight gain/bloating since getting off yasmin. I was 4 months on it and now am 3 1/2 months off it. No recurring period naturally. Went on provera to induce menstruation. Has anyone out there who experienced this ever went back to normal. I mean lost all that weight/cellulite that seems to have cropped up all over my body? I used to be rail thin and now I look like a blob. I'm in total depression over this and more over the fact that this will stay permanently since NOTHING SEEM TO HELP AND IT'S NOT EASING UP........
So if anyone who has experienced this can give me some advice and hope I'd appreciate that immensly.

Hugs-Sherry

Silke,

Thank you so much for your reassurance. Your post made me want to laugh and cry at the same time. I too despise the way I look. I go to the mirror everyday singing-Mirror mirror on the wall, maybe I AM pregnant after all. It's insane the way I became completely disfigured. From a skinny little nothing I now feel as if I'm constantly walking around with a shadow attached to me-cellulite that is....My clothes pop and all my undergarments leave huge indentations on my skin. Which is a sure sign of water retention. It's absolutely a nightmare.....
For me 62 days is quite long already. I was only on this shit for 4 months. Well I guess I have to suffer just a little longer.
sigh........
Take care everyone and good luck in your detox road.....

To guest 11622 who asked about the weight gain.

There are many posts with complaints regarding weight gain. Funny thing for me is that whilst on the pill I didn't put on any weight however as soon as I went off it, all of a sudden I was 5-8 lbs up with cellulite all over my body. (and places that were never my sore spots.) I am now 28 days off the pill and really dieting and working out but have seen very little progress.
Originally I went on this pill after I was diagnosed with an eating disorder and was not allowed to become pregnant. Weight gain to me is abhorrant in general. But this weight gain, for no reason at all, as I have not changed my eating patterns, is really hindering my progress.
Anyone out there that has experienced this scenario and can please please tell me how long it takes for the weight to stabilize and revert back to normal-if it ever does-it will be of great comfort to me.
Thank you all!
Anxious

hi everyone,
Ive been of Yasmin for about 8 months now, i am surprised that no one mentioned on eof the side effects as Cellulite. I am tall and slim, and have a little cellulite on my bottom. When i was on Yasmin, i literally had cellulite from my bottom, all the way down the backs of my thighs to the back of my knees.
i also experienced the social phobia and low self esteem and definatly weight gain, but i stayed on it because it made my boobs bigger (and perkier!) m back to my diminished size and my boyfriend and i are sick of using condoms and was thinking about going back on the pill.. until i read this information!

I just got off yasmin , and now am on alesse. I tried to get off yasmin to x,s before, and actually had extreme headaches and insomnia. I somehow got viral meningitis last summer, just after getting off yasmin,(I had been taking it for a year) . I have no idea if this is relevent or not. I also had bad folliculitis on my inner thigh, and rashes. On yasmin my cellulite would appear much worse. I am only 110 lbs, and 5'5. Now off of it , my cellulite looks better(a lot less) . I am having trouble adjusting to my new pill, I guess because of the hormonal shift. I have insulin resistance , so I am very prone to side effects.

I have been on Yasmin for a little over six months. In the past 3, I have noticed weight gain even though there have been no changes in my routine. I'm bloated constantly. I'm starting to have little cellulite looking things on the back of my thighs (I'm 16! this isn't supposed to happen yet!!) and I've noticed some of the women talking of uncontrollable anger bouts. The entry girlsaturday posted on March 5th is exactly how I've been, as well as one women who said "I've turned from 'the nicest person he's even known' into a 'crazy B@#$'. And I know it! And I hate it! I sometimes feel like I don't have control of myself...I can't stop myself from saying something I know I shouldn't. " .... all of these things are exactly like me, and for months I was trying to find a solution. sure I may be a teenager whose hormones are running wild, but this was so unlike me! I have always been unstable in a depressed way but not angry... I've never really wanted to lay a violent hand on anyone or be mean to those I love as much as I seem to have been wanting to, especially since around november or december. I had absolutely no source for this anger, there was no where it could have been coming from, and it frustrated me to no end that I couldn't figure out why. Once it came up in my mind "hey maybe it's the pill" but i didn't want to believe it. I thought, no, it's just me being a moody teenager. but after reading all of these, i honestly don't think that's what it is. I don't feel like myself anymore and the timing points to the pill. I'm on the white pills right now, so I'm about to finish a pack, but I'm not getting it refilled. Back to acne and condoms for me... it seems worth it at this point.
