Taking this for "cellulites of the face" which I guess basically is a bacterial cyst on my chin that has caused an infection to go into my lymph nodes, which are all very swollen (even ones that I didn't know I had!). After taking 3 doses, we went to a water park for 8 hours (dumb move), and even putting SPF 50 on every 1/2 hour, my skin literally felt like it was melting off of my arms. And it was just my arms, no other part of my body. The second sunlight hit my arms, I immediately got this burning, tingly feeling. The morning after I was expecting to see that my arms were really burned, but they look fine. Other than that, so far I am just extremely tired.

I have been taking keflex for 3 days for severe cellulites on my right leg that was caused by an insect bite. I am allergic to penicillin, which the doctor knows. The pharmacist did counsel me and I knew. I have developed itchy patches in a lot of places, especially my face. So far it is not bad enough that I can't handle it. I am not ready to throw in the towel yet and try something else though because I know it is supposed to be effective against what ails me. I was bit by a brown recluse spider in 1984 and as a result I am concerned about how bad a skin infection like I have can get (even though I am sure this time the insect that bit me was not a poison spider). I have a few mild other symptoms (stomach, back, tired) and I have been feeling a little blue also but I am not sure whether keflex is the cause of any of that, or if it is the bite.

I was prescribed the generic for Bactrim for the last ten days for cellulites around a bug bite.........fortunately, i did not have as many of the horrible side effects reported by some, but i realize now that about 7 days into taking it i started to develop a small lump on back of my neck, right below hairline, tender to the touch, now after i have finished day 10, i have two more bumps.....i freaked out, but now after reading some of these posts, it seems it might just be a common side effect with this medication for some.........guess they're just swollen glands.......since I'm done taking already, i guess there's not much to do but to wait for the glands to return to normal!! thanks for the posts, it helps to validate my experience!!

BACTRIM ALMOST KILLED MY MOM.

BACTRIM CAUSED POTASSIUM LEVEL INCREASED SO HIGH THAT MY MOM HAD GONE INTO CARDIAC ATTACK. LUCKILY, DOCTOR AT ER RECOGNIZED HER CAUSE OF PROBLEM WAS FROM SIDE EFFECT OF BACTRIM AND HE TREATED HER ACCORDINGLY BUT SHE WAS IN COMA FOR 11 HOURS BEFORE SHE CAME BACK AROUND.

WHEN MY MOM HEART WENT INTO CARDIAC ARREST, IT HAD HAPPENED WHILE SHE WAS RIGHT IN EMERGENCY ROOM. I BROUGHT HER IN ER BECAUSE HER VOICE WAS BROKEN UP WHEN SHE TRIED TO TALK THEN 45 MINUTES AFTER WE ARRIVED AT ER, HER HEART GAVE OUT ON HER. SHE WOULD NOT BE ALIVE IF SHE WAS NOT IN HOSPITAL WHEN THAT HAPPENED.

BACTRIM ALSO DESTROYED HER BLOOD CELL, HER BLOOD NORMAL LEVEL WAS 10 BUT IT WENT DOWN TO 6.2 IN 11 HOURS ORDEAL. SHE HAD TO RECEIVE TWO PINTS OF BLOOD TO BRING HER BLOOD LEVEL BACK TO OUT OF DANGER LEVEL. I AM USING A LAY TERM BUT I KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO MY MOM.

MY MOM IS STILL NOT OUT OF HER DANGER YET BECAUSE HER BLOOD PRESSURE IS NOW SOARING FROM HER NORMAL LEVEL AROUND 110/65 TO A CURRENT OF AROUND FROM BETWEEN 140/80 TO 180/100. SHE JUST BEING DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL ONLY 2 DAYS AGO.

BACTRIM WAS PRESCRIBED TO MY MOM BY A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANCE IN EMERGENCY ROOM WHEN MY MOM CAME IN FOR CELLULITES ON HER FOOT AND SHE WAS ALMOST DIED FROM ITS SIDE EFFECTS OF BACTRIM AFTER SHE TOOK IT FOR 7 DAYS.

I SYMPATHIZE WITH THE LADY WHO LOST HER HUSBAND BY SIDE EFFECTS OF BACTRIM.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE BACTRIM UNTIL YOU READ ALL ABOUT SIDE EFFECTS AND ASK YOUR DOCTOR FOR OTHER ALTERNATIVE DRUG.

Sleeplessness and when I could sleep, I had terrible nightmares. I was taking Levaquin 500 for cellulitis in my finger. My father had passed away recently so at first I attributed the nightmares and restlessness to that. But after thinking about the aggitation, the sleeplessness, the nausea, etc...and never having taking the medication before, I decided to research the side effects of Levaquin. I have completed the 10 days prescribed round of medication, but my finger is not healed. I go back to the doctor tomorrow. I will ask for a different anitbiotic!!

Wow! I am shocked. I have taken Levaquin on several occasions in the last two years for various infections - cellulitis, pneumonia and UTI. Over time my legs, knees and right hip have become so painful that I have actually checked the terms of my life insurance policy because I did not think I could go on. I have been attributing my severe pain, which is not helped by narcotic pain medication to any significant degree, to an old fall injury, new over-use injuries, being overweight, not being fit, etc. I never thought for a minute that my only available antibiotic choice, Levaquin, could be the culprit. I was just researching severe leg pain on the net (again) and stumbled on this site. I have had unusual headaches, loss of appetite, and of course severe leg, knee and hip pain, as well as weird visual perceptions (I keep thinking the light is too low) and horrible muscle pain in my right thigh and calf. I had a trip and fall accident and now have lymphedema in the right thigh and have had many other complications since '92. When I went back to my doctor last Monday, he told me to take a second course of Levaquin for cellulitis in the thigh when I complained about the horrible pain in my thigh muscle, knee and hip. Does he really have no idea that Levaquin has these serious side effects being reported? I am now terrified that these painful conditions are going to persist for a long time to come. I can barely walk at this point and I have chronic severe pain and I have missed many days of work since taking these last three rounds of Levaquin (500 mg. x 10 days each) since September. Again, wow!

I first took avelox last december for cellulitis. I also took levoquin for the same condition. I had a recurrence and took Avelox again this week. On the 3rd day I noticed brief "sticking" pains that would come and go. It felt like someone was poking me, first on the leg, then my back, then an arm. They lasted briefly, and then came back a few hours later. About the same time I noticed my shoulder was hurting, and my forearm and some of my fingers. I thought the infection was spreading and I went back to the doctor, who offered to Xray my shoulder. That seemed pointless, so I said forget it and refered to the package insert, where i found tendon rupture as a side effect. I searched more and found that Avelox, and other quinolones are TOXIC to the TENDONS and may cause muscle and tendon pain. I discontinued the medicine and now am using ceflex to treat the infection. I will wait a while for the pains to resolve, and pray I do not blow a tendon, esp. in my shoulder. I am pretty pissed that the doctor was unaware of this side effect, and when I informed him of my experience he said he would not use Avelox for cellulitis in the future.

I took Levaquin 500 mg. because of recurring Cellulitis. I will NEVER take this antibiotic again! I fell into a sense of hopeless and felt like I was hit by a mack-truck. I have been experiencing joint pain like never before. THe doctors have said it is okay to return to exercising, but i will not likely be able to do that because of the ongoing joint pain. My knees, feet, ankles, wrists and fingers continue to be painful, even 2 weeks after being off this medication. I continue to struggle with ongoing low-grade nausea and occasional dizziness, which is scary when driving! This is the worst medication in the world and should be taken off the market. I am PRAYING that these side effects go away.

I took Prednisone for an allergic reaction to a Bee bite that turned into cellulites after a few days. My arm and leg swelled up to the point where I had to go into the emergency room. They put me on a prednisone drip and then prescribed prednisone for 10 days tapering down from 60 mg a day to 10 mg a day.
I felt horrible on it! Could not think straight, massive headaches everyday to the point where I could not go to work! Then once I went down from 30mg to 20mg a day, the with drawl that your body gets is the worst!
Nassau, more headaches and forget about thinking straight! and yes your face does look like a moon after a few days... Try drinking a lot of water
Now I am on my 2nd day with out it and I still feel the side affects but I hope they will go away soon :(
This drug works but I hope I never take it again.

4/10/07 from Lynn H.
My husband is 49 and has peripheral vascular disease which causes him to have ongoing problems with leg/ankle edema and cellulitis. He is standing and moving all day for his job and this increases his inflammation and edema. The doctor put him on Levaquin 750 mg./day for the cellulitis.
SIDE EFFECT: Hard pounding heartbeats, skipped beats, fast heart beats. He has gone off the medication for a few days, then just took one a few hours ago. The hard heartbeats started up again, as heard through my stethoscope. Heart rate in the 60s, but many skips and hard pounds. He will not continue this horrible medication and contact the doctor. This is a "dangerous" medication.

I have just had two bouts of cellulitis in my legs. I had some side effects from strong antibotics, so was put on leviquin, after taking for 5 days (6 days is a full RX), I am experiencing tightness in my throat, my mouth seems to be "raw" making it hard to eat. Everything I try to eat or drink is extremely bitter. Also, I seem to have some joint pain.

I've been on Yasmin for nearly 4 years and decided to stop taking this pill because like most of you I felt REALLY bad!! I had symptoms like cramps in my feet and legs, regular blackouts (I was taken to ER everytime), dizziness, shortness of breath, migraines, ear congestion, complete lack of energy and worst of all anxiety. I've also developed arthritis in my right shoulder for which I went to see a physio and thank god it is getting better.
I saw so many doctors and none of them could find anything wrong with me and none of them had the wonderful feeling that this may have been caused by Yasmin. When I told them I wanted to stop the pill, they told me there was no reason why and that I should carry on. So that was my decision to stop it and a very good one!! The doctors are wrong !
I am off Yasmin now since 1st of July 06 and it's only now that I start to feel better! I've been through so many weird symptoms: pains and swelling in both of my calves, cramps in my legs (streching helps!), nausea, heavy sweating during the night, my ears feel like they are blocked but no more of the other symptoms (blackouts have not come back)and my periods have come regularly but are very short (3 days).... My body is recovering and my calves are getting better. I also found out that I start to get cellulitis on my legs (what a nightmare), I was told by a friend that' s because of the pill!!
I am now full of energy, the anxiety has gone (I can face the world now), and I am determined NOT TO GO BACK on any C pills anymore.
I am 38 years old and have been on different pills since the age of 19, I would like to know if anybody of my age (or anybody) experienced symptoms like mine after they stopped Yasmin and how long it takes for them to disappear....

I was just recently in the hospital for treatment of cellulitis and my doctor ordered Levaquin via IV. I had taken it orally before about a year ago for a respiratory infection. 2-3 minutes into the IV being turned on I felt the worst burning sensation and pressure in my lungs like I suddenly had horrible pneumonia. Everytime I tried to breathe I had to cough like my lungs were full of fluid or something! They ran tons of tests and everything came back normal. They had to give me a shot of Benadryl and it eventually calmed down. Anyone else experience this?

All you ladies, and expecially femalepara:

You shouldn't tell ANYTHING about this pill, as long as you haven't been taking it AT LEAST over a few months!!

Reading such a post like "I just started taking it TWO WEEKS ago and this is so much better than..." feel like a slap in a face of someone who had suffered and is still suffering because of this nightmare pill!!

Surely everyone reacts different on medicine, but you always should be careful and very sensitive about ANY symptoms you experience while taking Yasmin!!

In my case the worst symptoms started after 2 YEARS on it!!! Then another 2 very bad years (always tired and dizzy) without noticing, what this chemical was already doing to my body and then the total breakdown after 4 years on this stuff!! The first 2 years I thought it was the best pill I ever had taken and then in 2004 my life nearly was about to end because of that sh....!!!!

So please ladies, don't tell anything about a medicine as long as you weren't on it at least for one year!! Believe me, before that point you don't know ANYTHING about it!!!

I wish you best of luck, that everything stays that good as it does at "2 weeks" on it. In my case the diuretic effect changed into the opposite!! After about 3 years on it I got such bad water retention I've never had before in my life and cellulitis all over my body (not only legs or so!!), even at my arms!!! After about 4 years on it I looked as if I was pumped up with tons of water, my face looked like a big balloon (I ALWAYS was a very fit and slim person BEFORE!!! I swear!!), my belly wobbled with every move I made.... It was terrible!!! And still, even after one year WITHOUT Yasmin all the water I had retained is not gone completely. I'm just so thankful that it gets less every month; already I lost about 10 pounds during the last 4 months and my body and face finally starts looking like my old self!!

So again: Please be careful with that medicine and don't praise it to the skies since this is a bit hasty at such a short time on it!

All the best to everyone out there, who's still suffering or recovering of their personal "Yasmin nightmare"!! God bless you!!

I was given 750mg of levaquin for 8 days due to a cellulitis in my left knee. After taking the Levaquin I developed swelling in my leeft leg, foot and ankle and then in my right. I have had this condition now for almost a month. My legs are very soire to touch and at night feel like they are on fire. The tendons in the back of my legs are so very sore and stiff I can barely walk. My back is also affected with pain and stiffness. i have been to three doctors this past week. One ordeered an ultra-sound on my legs, thinking I may have a blood clot. Another has ordered an uoltra-sound on my chest, thinking I may be in congestive heart failure. The last one said therapy might help. None of the three seem to know the real cause. One doctor did say that Levaquin can in rare instances cause torn tendons of the legs or shoulder etc. I have no other explanation at this point but that it is the Drug. A miserable way to supposedly get over an infection!

I have been on Levaquin now for almost 2 years. Yes that's right 2 years. I was perscribed it for treatment of a recurrent cellulitis secondary to a primary lymphedema.. I have been wondering why my hands hurt and I can hardly move my knees. I never knew that Levaquin had such side effects. My Doctor never told me about this. I have been in so much pain my physical activity level has dropped to near zero.

My friend was on this for a severe infection (cellulitis) and if his infection wasn't bad enough as soon as he started the augmentin he had stomach cramps and diarrhea and constant vomiting. Finally we discovered the side effects could be that and he went off it. It almost landed him BACK in the hospital. After one day off that med the stomach issues stopped. Careful if your Dr prescribes this medicine.

about the weight gain after getting off:

YES, I'm suffering from a huge weight gain since getting off Yasmin, too!!! I don't eat more than before or do anything else different than before!!

My opinion: Yasmin has got an antidiureticum in it, which should help to get all the water out of your body, so that it's now, after getting off this "antidiureticum" which your body got used to over the years (in my case 5 HORRIBLE years!!), all the cells which have been diswatered now just the more retain all the water they can get.

OMG I hope you can understand what I'm saying, sorry, but my english is not as good as i would wish to tell you everything about this "Yasmin-Shit"!!!

Well, that's what I experienced about my body since getting off. Horrible cellulitis all over my legs and bell and even my arms!! My doctor has got the same opinion as me but he also is thinking positive about that, because he thinks that every pound I have gained now will disappear, when my hormones are finally back in balance. And that might last a few months...

Well, I believe in him, not to get rid about these "after Yasmin symptoms" as well as on the "during Yasmin symptoms".

I think we all should be glad, if we can get our health back completely and not be to worried about the pounds we might gain now... I know it's hard (I was a very fit and slim person before taking Yasmin!!!), but we'll get over that all!!! I'm sure!!

Something else: Yesterday I was so angry again about this pill and especially its german website which still tells about Yasmin as a real wonder drug that I wrote an E-Mail to the "Schering AG", the german sales department of Yasmin!!! I wrote down all my thoughts and experiences and especially that Yasmin nearly had ruined my life!! I wonder if I will get any answer from there....

Ok, enough for today. Please every lady off Yasmin keep us updated on how you're doing!!! It's still this website which on somedays is the only way to keep me alive and going on through this "after Yasmin torture"!!!

All the best to you out there!!

Oops! Excuse the entry below. I goofed & hit the wrong key.
Anyhoo, here is my Levaquin story. I am 51 & was diagnosed with cellulitis on Jan. 19th of this year. I was given an IV drug, (Daptomyacin) & 500 mg of Levaquin for 16 days. Towards the end of the treatment, my joints became very achy. (mostly in my knees) I was having burning, tingling sesations throughout my body & my calves were cramping. One week after treatment, I could barely walk through our house. I normally am active, with daily walks & short jogs. Within days, I had to have knee surgery. It is now almost 5 weeks past my surgery. The achy joints, burning, cramping & tingling are still present off & on throughout my body. Although the orthopaedic surgeon did find trauma in my knee, (past fractures, etc.) I am convinced the Levaquin sped up & exacerbated the damage. Now my other knee is hurting so bad, I am starting to think that one will need surgery as well. Both my orthopaedic surgeon the infectious disease Dr. that prescribed the Levaquin dismiss the notion that Levaquin had anything to do with it or that my joints are aching because of the drug. I am thrilled I find this site, because I realize that I haven't imagined these symptoms. But the reality of these reactions is quite sobering. I have never had a bad reaction to a drug in my lifetime. This one was so sudden & severe, I had to add my account to this list. I've just started trying the Milk of Magnesia & hope it works. I too have been drinking lots of water. God bless each of you out there suffering with this & may we find some solutions soon.

I had a severe case of cellulitis, caused by a fast-moving bacteria. It was on my face. I was on Levaquin for six weeks, first at 700mg and then at 500mg. My shoulders and knees froze up and became very painful. My left foot had electrical spasms which made my life miserable. My doctor said that was probably from sciatica. I have arthritis and recently changed from Vioxx to Bextra (frying pan into the fire), and my doctor didn't seem to know about a link between Levaquin and joint pain. I only found out by reading this site. One suggestion if you have stomach problems--they gave me Protonix, a drug for acid reflux, and that kept me from having any stomach reactions to the Levaquin. I now have been off Levaquin for six days, and my joint pain has diminished by 80%. My foot pain is down to a dull ache and a lot of itching. I know that the Levaquin saved my life, but in hindsight, I wonder if there was a different drug I could have been given, that would not have caused me such severe joint and foot pain.

On Biaxin XL 1000mg, once daily for cellulitis skin infection from a 2nd degree burn. Not sure why my MD chose this. It is not the drug of choice for cellulitis. On day 2 of 6 days. Infection looks worse today than before Biaxin. I have a bitter, metallic taste in my mouth. Will give it another day or so, but feel pretty sure I will end up on a different antibiotic.
