I just started NR YESTERDAY morning. My clinician was really pushing me to try it and even sent me away with a 4 month supply. I dunno why she was so insistent, but she told me she has most of her patients on it and they all LOVE it. What a crock!!! I was skeptical and brought it up with my bofo who thought the premise of the ring was iffy and likely a good way to get us pregnant. So i had my doubts going in, and THIS morning i woke up with a runny/bloody nose, an achy throat, a horrible taste in my mouth (similar to peroxide), and unrelenting nausea (i vomited at work). Don't have a change in mood, or any aversion to sex or loss of sex drive, but i'm not waiting to find out. I am seeing my clinician tomorrow about this and am going back to the pill.

I have been taking the generic form of Wellbutrin (social anxiety with a touch of ADHD) for just over six months and as much as I hate to admit it, I believe that the bad is finally, convincingly, outweighing the good.
The good things that came along with 150mg of the SR every morning at 11:00: Weight loss (but only after an initial one month period of eating every form or carbohydrate I could find), it seems to brighten the whites of my otherwise cloudy eyes, helped me maintain conversations with people that I would have normally cut off early, and possibly--but only possibly--helps me focus (although the hyper focus that I used to get via the ADHD is gone. Completely. Non-existent.)
Which brings me to the bad: This goes against most of what I've read other people experience on Wellbutrin but lethargy has set in. And it feels like it's here to stay. It's not really a sedated lethargy but more of a false contentment that everything is just fine the way it is. No progression, no improvement, and looking to the future is almost impossible through the fog. I too, during the first two or three weeks, had the speedy, productive reaction to the medication. But that has subsided. Next, hair loss has become a concern. I'm in my thirties and it could be just how it goes but I truly doubt it. Mild constipation may seem bearable but I miss regularity more than I have time to describe. Ringing in the ears. Impaired memory. Confusion. Forgetfulness to a fault. Mild hives on the back. Irritability. A marked shortness of breath. After one month on Wellbutrin, I could barely run a mile on the treadmill when I've been accustomed to flying through three to five with ease. I feel weak, vulnerable even. Working out has therefore fallen to the wayside. And last, but probably the worst, this medication has seemed to cultivate a serious craving for other drugs. I can't explain it but I can't take it anymore either.
Like most people on a medication, I have read numerous posts and some people share some of my concerns but mostly, it seems that the people who report in are the speedy folks on day two or week two. That is, in my opinion, only a bit helpful, since these effects are usually short-lived. Wellbutrin started out with promise but while parts of me look into the mirror and see an improvement, underneath it all, I know that it is purely a nicely dressed form of prescribed avoidance.
I haven't posted this to discourage anyone. If it works for you--great. Really. But I also haven't read anyone's experience that matched my own so I figured it might help someone who is going through any of the same. Good luck.

It seems like almost everyone here has experienced a decrease in their sex drive, and I am not the exception. I switched to the Nuvaring just 4 weeks ago...BIG Mistake!!! The second week after being on it I experience a change in mood, I was extremely sensitive, angry for no reason, anxious, irritable, etc...My husband and I have been together for 8 years and rarely argue, this week was really bad...we fought all the time (I fought, he just took it). My sex drive was great before the NuvaRing, I wanted to have sex all the time! During the time I was on the NR, we only had sex 3 times and I was dry all 3 times...my sex drive was gone! Finally, I started getting these hard bumps on the side of my face by my ear and neck...really weird...they look bad and hurt. Needless to say, I'm off of the NuvaRing for good. On this site I learned about the dangerous blood clots, so I'm definitely never going back!!!

I was recently treated for a staph infection with 10 days worth of bactrim. The whole week my BP was through the roof (now on BP meds), severe headaches, sore spots on my head, weird eye pain and vomitting. It was horrible. I was linking it all to my unusual high BP but from what I've read it looks like most of you have experienced the same side effects. I had two days left to take but I'm not going to mess with it anymore.

I have got to share my great news with anyone who will listen. My daughter has been Singulair free since Friday of last week. She has no idea that we are not giving her this pill at night and we haven't discussed any of our recent findings in front of her. In other words, she has no incentive to behave any differently than she ever has. The changes are so dramatic that at times it's hard for me to believe. On three different occasions today she made note of her positive change in mood (keep in mind she is 7). Right after school when she was going over some of her graded papers she pointed to a smiley face on her paper. She said, "Mommy, that's how I feel today." I replied, "That's great honey. Is there a reason why you are so happy today?" She stated, "I don't know why, I just am." Then a few hours later I overheard her talking to her younger brother at dinner say, "Will, I haven't cried at all today." Of course he didn't have much of a reply. Then at bedtime, she said, "This has been the best day ever!" These are all statements that quite honestly I have never heard her say before. It warms my heart to know that I do have a "normal" child in there. She's been on Singulair since she was 3, before she could verbalize many of her feelings. All we have known are negative, grumpy feelings and emotions.
But these are not the only changes we have noticed. I have had to wake her up for school the last two mornings in a row (hasn't happened since she began school). She has always been such a terrible sleeper and seems to never really get as much as she needs. She hasn't been so obessessive in the last two days about playing with her best friend. She actually asked if she could play cars with her younger brother instead of going to the park. She has eaten about half as much as she normally does. She has developed such a ferocious appetite that weight has become a huge problem. She has handled disappoints in stride when the same trigger would have totally set her off a few days ago. The list really does go on and on.
I can honestly say that the only thing that has changed is the absence of Singulair. I pray that I continue to discover more of my daughter's great qualities.
I have wondered so many times over the last few days, "What if I hadn't been listening to NPR?" I would have had no other reason to look into the matter further. All of our stories need to be told to the greater media. There are millions of children on this drug and based on this message board, millions of children sufferring negative side effects. Please join me in this crusade!

My five year old was in the hospital for 4 days for a sinus infection and they put her on Omnicef. My daughter is a very cheerful little girl and these last couple of days she has been everything but cheerful. Its as she has turned into a demon over night. She has been having the worst mood swings. She has been screaming, yelling back, and kicking her legs and just being really mean. I remember the nurse advising me the possibility of a change in mood swings but I never imagined this. Omnicef did it's purpose BUT I hope to never have to use it again. I was not prepared for the mood swings my child acted out. I thought it was just my child until I started reading online and asking around.

My 9-yr-old daughter was just prescribed Adderall for a one-month trial period. The first day was incredible. She was such a joy to be around. It was like I had my little girl back. She has been so trying for so long that I was just ecstatic. Although she did suffer from a bellyache throughout the day, which I hope will subside. The next day was not as wonderful. She was still a little hyperactive but her concentration was still improved and she was on her best behavior all day. The third day was almost as good as the first day, but that night she came into our room saying she heard voices whispering. When I asked her what they were saying she couldn't tell me what was said but was very scared. I have been distraught ever since. Is this indicating she does not have ADHD or is it a side effect from the medication?
Please help, as I don't want her to continue on this medication if her mental stability will be sacrificed.

I really don't think anyone too young should take this product. I have only taken it for about 3 days (I know I probably sound like a hypocondriact because I haven't waited long enough to see if the side effects subside) but even in the first couple of days I felt really weird. I felt like I was sick with mono or something. I felt really tired for the first half of the day and then at night I was awake. My change in mood has made me feel a little out of it. Also my acne got much worse just in 2 days. Instead of it just being a bad it was like every new pimple was beneath the surface of my skin. I also take doxocyclin with yasmin but it doesn't seem to do much. I also feel really lathargic and odd. Very tired and my head just seems to be floting.
I know I have only been on this for 3 days but, I have work to do and I can't let this pill bring me down in that. I have to be alert and know whats going on in order for me to do my job. I don't want to be someone who still has side effects long after just starting to take this pill.
I can't say much else but I that I don't want to risk my sanity for this. I really don't think I need it now. I am only 15 and I just want other young people to be aware of the side effects. Although I was not perscribed Yasmin for pregnancy reasons, just know that taking this so early may cause problems. Anyway, good luck to all and I hope whatever BC you choose it is right for you and your body!

hi
i am 19 years old and have been on Yasmin for almost 2 years. at first it was great decreased my pms symptoms. Just recently my period flow has picked up I get cramps again and have had a yeast infection back to back with a UTI and now i think a bacterial infection. I also have noticed a dramastic change in mood swings. I will cry for no reason, feel unhappy for no reason, and just be angry for no reason. I am an emotional person, but I usually can control myself. I find myself getting mad at my boyfriend and friends for no reason, and i cant control the mood swings. has this happend to anyone? and why has it taken so long? I was just wondering if anyone has had the same problems. thanks!

The only side effects I have noticed was slight depression, slight weight gain, and slight mood swings, but that is expected from birth control. I have been on this pill for almost two months, and for the first time since I started getting my period 7 years ago (I am 20) I did NOT have severe cramps and headaches that I always do. It was the first time I was fully able to function during my period.
Most of the side effects on this site are listed write on the information package you receive each month with your Yasmin, and your doctor should have also warned you about them. They are common with almost any birth control, because your menstrual hormones are controlled by the pill. I was on Ortho-tricylin for many years and they only reduced my cramps. I have barely noticed a change in mood swings, because even though I am now on Yasmin, it is a birth control pill, and thats what they do. If you are having severe problems with it though, you should immediately stop taking the pill. This may cause your period to start, but your side effects should slowly decrease. I hope this helped someone out.

My 3 year old son took it for five days for asthma. In no time we noticed a serious change in mood. Our normally sunny and cheerful child became aggressive, angry and violent all the time.
After being off the Singulair for three days he was completely back to normal. This side effect may be rare, but we are certain it was due to the drug!

Straight from the Yasmin booklet that comes with the pack of pills:
Warning signals:
Sharp chest pain, coughing of blood, sudden shortness of breath, pain in the calf, crushing chest pain or heaviness in cheast, sudden severe headache - vomiting - dizziness - or fainting, disturbances of vision or speech, weakness, or numbness in an arm or leg, sudden partial or complete loss of vision, breast lumps, severe pain or tenderness in the stomach area, difficulty in sleeping, weakness, lack of energy, fatigue, change in mood, jaundice of skin or eyeballs, irregular bleeding, fluid retention, Melasma (spotty darkening of the skin - particularly in the face) and other side effects may inclue change in appetite, headache, nervousness, depression, dizziness, loss of scalp hair, rash and faginal infections.
It makes me furious that some of you have told your doctors outright that you've been experiencing some of the above effects from this pill and yet they tell you to your face that it's not the pill.....(fuming)
The other poster is right - call Berlex and tell them what's happened to you and that Yasmin sucks!!

We'll I was going to the doctor today, but after reading all this information I'm just getting off this pill. My husband confronted me last night and said something had to change because of my change in mood and being ill ALL the time. I have zero sex drive and just got married less than a year ago. These postings answered it for me. I have experienced every single side effect listed: tender breast, left arm numb most of the day, severe leg cramps, luckily no weight gain, dizzy a lot and severe headaches. My husband said I changed right after I switched to this pill. He was right. Ladies, listen to your bodies.. Get off this nightmare. It's tough enough daily without some drug interfering.. Best wishes to all!

Wow..I have been wondering for awhile now if the symptoms I have been having for over a year now had something to do with the MIRENA, and now I know I am not alone. I had the Merina put in in August of 2007, due to prolonged bleeding after my 3rd child (2nd pregnancy). I had on and off bleeding for the first 6 months, which they say is normal. Since then, I have experienced sore eyes, head aches, thinning hair (to the point that my pony tail holder falls out all the time), thinning eye lashes, and I feel sick to my stomach on a regular basis. My memory is horrible lately too. The worst of all would have to be my mood swings, anger, and feelings of depression. My poor husband and kids. I have 3 beautiful children and an amazing husband. None of us deserve this. I can feel my change in mood come and go. I went to my doctor and had all my blood work done and tested , and it all came back normal. I am 30 years old, I eat right and exercise regularly. There has to be something hormonally going on. I did not have these symptoms before the Mirena, and after reading everyone's experience, I truly believe that the Mirena is what has caused this major shift in the way my body feels. I want to take back control of my body.
Thank you all for sharing your stories. It has helped me to know I am making the right decision in getting this taken out as soon as possible. I'd rather have long periods, and take a pill everyday than have my entire life disrupted just because the Mirena is convenient. I have 2 goods friends that have the Mirena and they love it. I guess it just goes to show that all of our bodies are different, and it's up to us to listen to what our bodies are trying to tell us. Good luck to you all,and I will post once I have it taken out on how it effects me.
