Like many of the others who have posted to this site, I have been dealing with what I thought was IBS for the past 3 years or so. I'm healthy and mid-30s and couldn't figure out what was causing it. Colonoscopy and other tests showed that all was normal. I don't drink caffeine, coffee or alcohol. Healthy as can be. Finally discovered it was a dairy intolerance. Coming off dairy solved the diarrhea issue but really limited my diet. Shortly after I discovered Lactaid Fast Act supplements and started to take them at meals when I had dairy.
For the first three weeks, the pills worked great. I loved them. I could eat like normal again without diarrhea. But after that time, I started to feel a sharp pain in my stomach when I take them...like someone slugged me in the stomach. It always comes within 5 minutes of taking a pill. Since then, it has gotten worse. Gas, bloating, and a constant pain (gnawing feeling) in my stomach that nearly has me doubled up. I've never had an ulcer, but from what I've read, that's what it feels like. I decided to stop using the pills.
I just discovered this site and was amazed to see that others have had the same. I should have checked for side effects before I took it! I've not had the vomiting that many of the others have had, but I won't be taking it any longer and risking that!
Hoping there is some alternative solution out there. Hard to imagine the rest of my life without cheese or dairy in anything (bread, dressing, etc.).

Can anyone tell me if you can just stop Lipitor cold turkey or do you have to stop it slowly? I have been taking Lipitor for 5 years now and I have been trying to find out what is causing my leg weakness. I mentioned it to my doctor who said it si just a fact of getting older. The problem is getting worse and I noticed it started about 3 months after taking the Lipitor and has steadily gotten worse. I am 49 years old a little over weight {which I am working on}. I also noticed my asthma which I haven't delt with since a small child has come back. This may or may not have to do with the Lipitor but the pain in my knees and legs I believe do. It really hurts in the joints of my legs and sometimes in my shoulder area.

I've been on NR for almost 2 years. I was fine, I thought, at first. But for the last 3 months I have such severe lower back pain, I can hardly move (and it worsens after sitting for long periods of time)...and it magically lessens after I take out the NR.
Also, I have gained weight that I can't manage to shed, no matter how much I starve myself or workout. I'm heavier than I've ever been at 188 lbs, and my OBGYN when I told her how upset I was about the weight gain told me it was as easy as cutting 100 calories per day - you know one spoon of mayo or piece of cheese...like I'm sitting around spooning mayo out of a jar!
My mood swings are scary - and getting worse every month. I get mad over absolutely nothing and cry and shake with rage...to the point where I've felt like I was going insane, right now I have one "major explosion" per week. I don't want to know what my blood pressure it, I'm sure it's higher than normal, if from nothing else my mood swings. In fact reading your posts out loud to my boyfriend, I've managed to bit his head off and start crying.
I have read & re-read the side effects of NR, with no explanations of this...until I read everyone's posts here.

lactaid milk for a NON lactose intolerant person! eating regular dairy all day long, lots of normal cheese and ice cream daily... bought the lactaid for my cat..but ended up making COFFEE with it..latte style.. a full 8-10 ounces...
for a month now... and ended up with an ammonia smell to my urine and underarms..skin in general.. afraid of kidney problems as I also developed TERRY's NAILS..or "half and half nails" WHITE nails!!! the ammonia smell and the white nails indicate kidney troubles... my tests came back normal for kidney and liver... I attribute this to the lactaid so I hope this helps someone who may read this!!! these symptoms 100% coincide with the lactaid, NOTHING else is different in my diet..maybe my body got confused having lactase enzyme..AND normal dairy at same time.? maybe its not for people who are NOT lactose intolerant or for people who will ALSO include some regular dairy in their day... (without use of tablets) from what ive read here, you people are mistakenly believing you are intolerant... when all you need is probably PROBIOTICS after a course of antibiotics..which killed your healthy bacterias..and rendered you ineffective at digestion. That happened to me. takes months to re-establish the bacterias..and can even be a YEAR or two even, AFTER you took antibiotics that your digestion finally gave up..your antibiotic use didn't have to be "recent"
Thank you

JILL HERE . THANK TO THOSE WHOM HAVE RESPONDED TO WHAT I TALKED ON WITH LIPITOR AND MY EXPERIENCES. THE PRINCIPLE OF WHICH IME STILL INTERESTED IN WITHOUT BEING DIVERTED.
ONE WEEK ON EATING VEGIES, FRUIT,SALADS, WEIGHED OUT PROTEIN, FISH,CHICKEN. BROWN BREAD, NO MARGARINE OR BUTTER,VERY LITTLE CHEESE, NO LIPITOR, A GOOD QUALITY VITAMIN C. NOT USING ANYTHING ELSE BUT A GOOD FISH OIL AS WELL, NOW TOTALLY BACK ON TRACK. LIPITOR WAS MAKING ME NOT ONLY FEELING ILL BUT ILL IN A WAY I KNEW I WOULD BE IN TROUBLE TAKING IT ANY MORE.
THANK GOD IME NOT. I MAY NOT STAY ON THE VIT.C. BUT THE GOOD QUALITY FISH OIL , YES. IME WORKING HARD ON OTHER THINGS ALSO AS A ALL ROUNDER WITH PERSONAL GROWTH, AND WILL ASK FOR A BLOOD AND URINE TEST IN SIX WEEKS TIME, AND TAKE IT FROM THERE, ON THE RIGHT TRACK NOW, THANK YOU FOR YOUR INPUT.
HOPE ALL WORKS OUT FOR ALL OF YOU. BY THE WAY THE DR. WILL BE A DIFFERENT ONE TAKING MY BLOOD AND URINE NEXT TIME. IRRETRIEVABLE DAMAGE NIPPED IN THE BUD JUST IN ENOUGH TIME.
REGARDS. JILL.
FOR ME IVE BANNED STATINS. AS A LADY WHOM HAS NOT HAD ANY MOOD ALTERING CHEMICALS FOR OVER FORTY YEARS. IME NOT ABOUT TO MESS MY LIFE UP WITH ANYTHING JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE SAYS ITS OK, AND HAS QUALIFICATIONS.
I QUESTION ALL , AS THERE IS TOO MANY SCIENTIFIC CONS OUT TODAY. TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR ONES HEALTH IS A MINE FIELD I ADMIT AND I WILL ALWAYS HAVE THINGS CHECKED THROUGH, IME NO FOOL. BUT ALONG WITH THIS I ALSO MUST KEEP AN EAGLE EYE OUT , AS A INDIVIDUAL I CANNOT TELL ANOTHER WHAT TO DO.
GOODBYE. J.

i introduced my bf to lactaid about a month ago since we discovered he was lactose intolerant. i really thought it would help considering he still loved to eat cheese and other lactose containing foods. at first, the lactaid seemed to be helping but just last week he took 3 extra strength lactaid pills because we were having chicken cordon bleu for dinner, he woke up 1 hour later with severe stomach pains and he was vomiting over and over. this lasted about 1.5-2hrs. i'm not lactose intolerant and didn't see the connection to the lactaid pills. we thought it was just from chicken cordon bleu because he had it before without the lactaid pills and he got sick from it too. today he took 2 extra strength lactaid pills and again, about an hour later he was feeling ill and was vomiting and experiencing diarrhea. we can now conclude it was the lactaid pills causing him all this pain. i feel so guilty for introducing him to these pills because i thought they would work. never again would i want to see him go through that much pain.

I have been on Seroquel for three days now...tonight will be my third night taking it and so far I've had severe persistent sore throat, stuffy nose ] and my eyes have been so itchy. I'm pretty sure it's just a cold going around but those are also very important side effects and I've already called my doctor about it and he also said it was just something going around. I have noticed I've been hungry, hungry, hungry and I eat A TON already as it is. I'm 110 lbs and I eat like a horse, I always have, even before I started the medication. I'm 5'1" and now I'm worried I'm going to blow up to the size of a house! I can't monitor how much I eat because I eat so much as it is. I do, somewhat, somewhat remember eating a block of cheese last night before bed time. I know why they say to take it before bedtime!! It knocks me out. Which is bad because I have a 17 month old who still wakes up around 4-5ish in the morning. His bedroom is right across the hall from ours and we have his door cracked open an inch and we leave ours halfway open so we can hear him. I am usually a light sleeper but last night I noticed that it sounded like he was across the street, I could hardly hear him. I'm surprised I even made it out of bed, got him and brought him back to our bed without running into something or dropping him. It's scary. It really is. My doctor is giving it to me to treat my mood swings. I'm hoping they don't do diagnose me with bipolar disorder like they've talked about when I was a teen. I have had some tachycardia but I also have a heart problem I was born with that has been pretty messed up for over a week--I started having premature ventricular contractions, but this was before I started the medication. I am actually wearing an EKG-like monitor during the day to record this...this has nothing to do with the medicine but I thought I'd through it in there in case they decided it is. I talked to my cardiologist today and told her I was on this medication. Well, it's about 8:17 here and I need to go take the medicine and hit the sack...goodnight.

My 2 1/2 year old has been on Lactaid milk now for over a year. Just after her 1st birthday she began this mysterious vomiting all the time.
She did test positive for the rotavirus right around her 1st birthday but the vomiting and loose stools continued for nearly a year afterwards. So after numerous tests including a horrible one to test how much reflux she had (which came out as minimal) her docs said she must be lactose intolerant. We put her on Lactaid but the vomiting continued. It did get better but it didn't totally go away until just after her 2nd birthday. Then more than 8 months later with no throw up she came down with what I think was the 24 hour flu because she couldn't keep anything down for a full day. Took her to the docs and they said just keep her on liquids as much as possible to keep her hydrated since she also hadn't had a wet diaper in more than 12 hours. The next day she was better and finally had a wet diaper but now she complains of a tummy ache all the time after she drinks her Lactaid. At first I thought maybe it's a comfort thing since I held her so much when she had the flu but now I'm not so sure. She has been complaining now for over two weeks. The only other thing that is new for her is we are trying to potty train. She has woken up with a dry diaper for over 6 month now so we thought she would be ready. However, she is very reluctant and holds her pee for a hours after she wakes up dry. I do notice that she also has quite a bit of gas when she is complaining of her tummy hurting and her stools are firmer than they used to be. I thought maybe it was because I would buy generic Lactaid like one person mentioned but she complains even with the good stuff and even the new Organic Lactaid. She doesn't eat much dairy products other than milk. She doesn't like yogurt and rarely eats cheese and we don't give her ice-cream. So not sure what is going on?? That's why I was searching on the net and found this site. Hope someone has some suggestions for us.

I, too, experienced the violent vomiting from taking a Lactase enzyme tablet (it was the store-brand generic version of Lactaid), after having taken it just fine for months.
My mom was visiting my husband and I and we all went to breakfast. I took a tablet right before I started drinking the large glass of milk I ordered (I'm weak when it comes to dairy, oddly enough). Within an hour I was home, vomiting, and dealing with abdominal pains and bloating. I continued to vomit for a couple of hours until finally, I was able to sleep.
A week later, I was eating with my husband at a restaurant for lunch, and because I had sour cream and cheese on my tacos, I took a tablet. About two hours later, I was calling him to take me home because I was sweating and it dawned on me what was going on. I felt exactly how I did the last time. By 8 that night, I was done vomiting.
I will be avoiding this product, generic or name-brand, for good now.

My daughter took Lupron as a 14 year old, perfectly normal teenager with the exception of endometriosis. She is now a 33 year old shell of the vibrant teen she was. She is bi-polar, maniac depressive. The changes in her were immediate and startling to say the least. I feel like it ruined her life. I have just started investigating the terrible side effects and was shocked to see so many other people whom lives it destroyed. If anyone has advice, anything to get help, please reply.

I have been on Singular for 3 years, the Dr prescribed
this for allergies. This past year I have noticed an increase in
sinus drainage constantly and a cough. Also some wheezing when I
lay down. A nurse told me today about
the write up on Singular and coughing because of Lisinopril.
Well coincidentally just last week I decided to stop the Singular and
no more sinus. drainage. NO MORE SINGULAR FOR ME and I am also telling my friends about it.
Signed Relieved and no more cough

what the hell has this world come to? First let me say I am by no means anti earth or anti environment I do my parts to recycle and cut down on my waste, but who the decided that a little bit of pollution is more important than our health. It is extremely minute. Why not stop selling cheese it makes people FART and the methane gas is extremely bad for the evionment. But they still sell hair spray, insect spray, and spray paint and other chemicals. What the hell is going on???
Selling spray paint to 15 year old punks to tag the trains and buildings must have more profit than a $25 inhaler.

Hi, I've just had my Mirena taken out ( thank Heavens) and can now get my life back. The only good thing was no periods for five years. The hormones gradually ran through my system and all the side effects crept up on me.
My allergies got MUCH worse.
My skin thinned.
I felt three thousand years old , ALL the time.
It stripped a goodly amount of calcium from my body, my teeth started crumbling.
( after two months post removal, my bone and teeth density has improved out the site! WITHOUT supplements My dentist and doctor are now a lot happier)
I had NO sex drive at all.
My weight crept up with NO lifestyle change, 30 kilos! - I have lost on average half a kilo a week since removal. NO diet change, NO activity change.
I've always had slight hormonal acne on my face and nowhere else... with Mirena I had it all up my formerly crystal clear back and diarriere, bust and even scalp.
Lots of other minor crap.
Please, if you have sensitivities to the pill and other hormone treatments, DO NOT go here. I thought I was just aging rapidly- bull dust! I'm just glad that my husband gave me all the support I needed to bring this tragedy to my doctor and Gynie's attention. For so, long I thought it was just me.
Now I'm having my tubes clipped. Hormonal interference just doesn't work for me

My pooh is purple and my balls smell like cheese.
My penis has shrunk by 9 inches and now is only a total of 13 inches long.
I bang my girlfriend for about 5 hours per day and when i shoot my load it sometimes flies across the room and it shattered the glass on my mirror.
Overall, i think Winstrol is terrific and i recommend it to anyone under the age 0f 11.

I've been using the NuvaRing for about nine months. I had used it about 3 yrs ago for a 1.5 yr period. At first I noticed similar symptons to the first time that I used it- very intolerant to alcohol, slightly depressed, naseaus frequently. But wasn't too concerned- I have a number of stomach problems, so I though that it just was agrivating that, and didn't worry too much. Then last month, my period came 20days after the previous, for about 15 days, with extreme itchness around my vulva. (Before going on the ring I would get my period every 33-35 days for about 3 days-no cramping, which increased to 30days/8-9 day length with light cramping on the ring) Now again, 13 days after I put a new Ring in I got my period again- really heavy. I'm going to try and see my gyno this week about it.
The most concerning thing is that my Cholesterol has increased 30 pts since last year- I'm practically vegan- only eating cheese on a rare ocassion, an active rock climber and road biker, and eat less cheese then last year, so it's a drastic increase. Also, my Triglyceride level was high- which I have never experienced before.
Also- about 4 months into using the ring I had an ovarian cyst pop in me. It was a random occurance that I ended up in the ER for and had never had anything like that occur before- can't say for-sure if it's related, but it was really scary and I couldn't move for about a month of my life.

I've tried so many other BC's...Microgestin, and Ortho tri-cyclen being some of the latest ones, One made me bleed for weeks at a time, and the other made me think I was nuts. I mean big-time NUTS. So far I've been on Yasmin for about a year, and it's great in terms of mood but recently I've had the craziest change in appetite! I can't stand most of the foods I used to love - especially greek food and melted cheese...lol. I turn green if I see them. Now I'll get these nutty cravings. Like today, I couldn't eat all day, and I was totally nauseous at the thought of food(i'm nauseous alot) but for some reason, I REALLY had to have cereal and milk. I don't even like cereal and milk. I was a total carnivore, and now meat is totally gross. The list goes on and on....it's been happening over the past 4 months or so....Just wondering if this is happening to anyone else. I realize that my side-effects are nowhere near as bad as most of you ladies out there and my sympathies are with you -

There are actually two components of milk that one can be allergic to - the protein (casein) or the sugar (lactose). My daughter was allergic to the protein at birth, and we (pediatrician & I) knew it was the protein not the sugar, b/c mother's milk is super high in lactose, albeit human lactose and not cow but still is lactose. All babies born into the world have lactase to break down lactose in mother's milk. But some of us must have stopped producing lactase. Wanting my kid to be normal and eat Goldfish, mac 'n cheese as other kids, I tested my daughter at 12 months with Lactaid milk. Diarrhea right away, just like with infant formula. Same thing at 18 months, and at two, I tested her with cheese and organic whole milk. Again, diarrhea. HOWEVER, the only thing she can eat is RAW CHEESE. I would test her on raw milk too if it was legal in my state, but it's not. So my conclusion is this: those who cannot tolerate dairy products or Lactaid may be allergic to casein or milk protein as well. From what I've read, cow milk proteins are very hard to digest, not truly meant for human consumption as much as for cows and calves not only drink the milk raw from mama-cow replete with enzymes but they have four stomachs to help them digest the milk, proteins and sugar and all. This is why some of us have better luck with raw milk (even without 4 stomachs) and why many of us eventually have problems with commercially sold milk from the supermarket that's pasteurized even if we didn't always have problems with it.
