I have asthma and used to get chronic bronchitis, twice a year for aprox. 30-40 yrs. I lost my husband 4 yrs ago and began having migraines. In addition to prednisone, I was a guinea pig for migraine meds. and pain relievers. Eventually we found that a beta blocker would prevent and another drug would relieve a migraine so i was loaded for bear. I also took about 8 advil every day just to move my hips in the morning. I was loosing control of my weight again. Feeling depressed about what I was doing to my self.
One day I heard about MSG and remembered a teacher in 1980 telling me to "stay away from that stuff, its poison" and we would laugh and say "Alright, Mr Rhodes" and keep eating the cheese curls because they were soo good. well I became curious and started researching MSG and I was amazed and appauled. Google it sometime, and follow the webring on the bottom of some of the pages. It hit home with me. I began changing my eating habits for me and my children. It was a slow process and alot of trial and error, but we have found foods that everyone likes and I balance it out. My 12 year old daughter was slow to come around, but she began trying new stuff and seeing that "healthy" isnt all bad. I use only whole wheat flour, brown raw sugar, NO ASPERTAME EVER, fresh druits and veggies, small portions of meat, and organic when i can afford to. I have lost 49 lbs since november and i feel great! after some weight came off I began to exercise, and slowly stopped taking medications. Today I am happy to say that I am drug free, Not even advil and I blame MSG as the main culprit. Other things I avoided is hydrogelated/hydrogenated oils of any kind, high fructose corn sugar. If I can help even one person by sharing my experience I am grateful. Please if you have trouble, try to live MSG free. Its hard work at first but you learn what is good and what is not. Oh my daughter has lost weight too and is thrilled!! Best regards. Teri

After looking at the listed side effects for Pred. i can say that my wife has expierenced all of them. She has Chrons and was on Pred. for about 9 months. Just so you all dont feel like your crazy, ill post what this "miracle drug" had done for our family. INSOMENIA, she would sleep for about 3 hours a day, man was my house clean! MOOD SWINGS, she would flip out for no reason. She even wanted a devorce! For no particular reason, she " just wanted me out of the house ". WEIGHT GAIN, she went from a size 3 to a size 13.*note* she lost weight in the first month, went down to a size 2. MOON FACE, she kept saying she looked like a jack-o-lantern. BURNING SENSATION, she would just break out in a sweat, and complain of "feeling" hot. ACNE, neck, back, and chest. FATIGUE, she just couldnt move, always felt "drained". EATING LIKE A LINE BACKER, she would polish off a full sized bag of cheese curls, and look for more. DEPRESSION, would just break down and cry, for no reason. I would ask, whats worng, and get " i dont know ...." BACK PAIN, she would wake up with major back pain. We contributed this to the added weight, pressing on her back while asleep. SNORING, agian, do to he added weight.
My question is this, my wife has been off the Pred for almost 50 days now, and she has lost little weight. It kills me that she looks in the mirror and cries now because she still has the added weight. She has lost a little in the face, and in the ankle area, but had yet to loose a majority of the weight gain. Her Dr. told her that it will take another 2 - 3 months to loose her weight and get back to "normal". If some one can varify this; the long gradual weight loss, it would make my wife feel so much better, knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Thanks in advance,
******

My doctor added Lantus to my medicine regimen including Byetta 10, Metformin 1500 twice a day. On the Byetta I lost 35-40 lbs very easily. The moment I added the Lantus I was bloated and over a 2 months I had gained back all the weight I had just lost. When I asked my Doctor about the bloating and weight gain she said she didn't think it had anything to do with the Lantus. But I was losing weight until she added the Lantus! I don't think that's just a coincidence. What should I do? Should I go to a doctor who specializes in diabetes instead of my family doctor who I love dearly?
