Hello all,
I'm a 45-yr old Air Force Major (Male) recently diagnosed with asymptomatic chronic Atrial Fibrillation (As in I have it and was walking around not knowing it). When I went to see the cardiologist, my B.P. was only 120 / 74 (Which, until they changed the rules, used to be normal)and he puts me on Diovan 80mg once a day plus Coumadin 5mg. Well the Diovan almost made me faint and I had numbness in both arms, plus a funky rash, kind of like chicken pox showing up on my arms and thighs.
I went online and read horror stories of Diovan so I stopped taking it immediately (I had only taken four doses and never had any horrible symptoms until after I took the meds!). Then the Dr. put me on an Event Monitor and it showed I was indeed in A-fib all the time, plus at night, my heart was racing briefly to 200 a minute while I was sound asleep. So he puts me on Toprol XL 100mg once a day.
Immediately I had trouble sleeping (Which I never had before, ever!) with crazy dreams and tossing/turning. My B.P. dropped to 88/65 and my fibrillating heart rate was 64!!! I was so mad because I actually felt better before the meds. I found this site and saw what everyone was posting and immediately took myself off the Toprol XL.
The day after stopping the Toprol I had slight chest pains (Like angina or gas bubble) but they went away on their own. I slept fine the next night.
I'm having an Electro-Cardiversion done on the 21st July to see if I can stop the A-fib and get in normal rhythm. I know the Dr. is going to be mad at me for stopping the Diovan and Toprol, but I'm sorry, I'm convinced there is a better way to beat all this (Namely exercise and eating right). Being in the service means you have to be Mr. Physical and Mental "perfect" all the time. I cannot afford to be diagnosed with depression in my line of work! Thanks to all on this website and I wish you the best.
PS. for those who think I'm being ignorant of my medication, I have a nice fat insurance policy and Power of attorney for my wife and kid in the event I keel over!!! I may be medication intolerant but at least I took care of my family.

I have been on it for two months due to severe psoriatic arthritis. I'm taking the max infusions every four weeks, methotrexate injections and prednisone. I'm tired, sleepy, sweaty and somewhat nuts a lot. However, after last week infusion, I have some type of rash-little red dots that feel like pin pricks that itch somewhat. I feel like a thousand fleas are attacking me all at one time! Has anyone had this type of feeling? PLEASE reply-it is driving me nuts.

I too, have been having weird symptoms over the last several months and just connected it all with having a Kenalog shot 7 months ago. In October 2007, two months after my injection, I developed severe anxiety and panic attacks. I thought it was related to perimenopause. Then, in January, I started having lots of muscle and joint pain all over my legs and hips. I've been a healthy and active person, so this was very unusual. I saw an orthopeadic surgeon who diagnosed me with a strained rotator cuff and bursitis on my hips. Now, just two weeks ago, I woke up with a large indentation on my left glut. Right where the Kenalog injection was given. My doctor had no clue what it was and said she might refer me to a Plastic Surgeon. I am SO relieve to find this board. It all clicked when I read everyone's postings. Now I just want to know if it will get worse or eventually go away. I did find some interesting information about the drug. BTW, the nurse or doctor NEVER said anything about side effects before giving my the injection. I am seriously going to pursue a law suit, so we can get this terrible drug OFF the market and no one else has to endure this disfiguring problem. If ENOUGH of us join together in a law suit, it might be worth suing the drug manufacturer. But we have to somehow get organized. Anyone intersted in pursuing this?

Here are some facts about the drug I found online.

Kenalog is not appropriate for everyone. A thorough medical history should be assessed prior to prescribing this medication. Patients with a medical history which includes skin infection, tuberculosis of the skin, chicken pox, herpes, cold sores, sunburned or wind burned skin, chapped skin, open sores, diabetes, or a stomach ulcer may not be able to take Kenalog or may require careful monitoring while undergoing drug therapy with this medication, depending on the condition and the severity of the condition.

The American Food and Drug Administration rated Kenalog as a pregnancy risk category C. This medication has been known to cause harm or birth defects in unborn babies. It has yet to be determined whether or not Kenalog passes through the mother’s breast milk and affects a nursing baby. The prescribing physician should avoid prescribing this medication to women who are pregnant, nursing, or have a high likelihood of becoming pregnant.

There is a risk of side effects associated with Kenalog, some of which are severe. A patient who is experience a serious side effect or an allergic reaction should seek immediate emergency treatment. An allergic reaction will present with symptoms which may include facial swelling, such as swelling of the lips, mouth, tongue, or throat, hives, and difficulty breathing. Other serious side effects which require immediate emergency medical treatment include symptoms such as insomnia, blurry vision, mood changes, halo vision, fatigue, weight gain, facial puffiness, or irregular heart rate.

It is day 4 off my advair and WOW what a difference! I feel great, clearer, lighter, its hard to explain. No withdrawls YET, I am sure the biggest asthma attack ever is impending, but things are really good right now. My mood and personality are even better, I guess when you feel like your dying all the time you can get a little moody. I also enjoyed reading yesterday about Advair and tooth decay (4 fillings and root canal this year) and chicken pox (got them AGAIN last year). Don't worry glaxo, my rotten teeth and life threating bout of pox and spasms of my HEART, which I hear is an important organ, is all a trade off to be able to breathe a little better. Sure. I plan on sending my unused (and will remain) Advair to GSK with a bill for my teeth. We will see what happens.

My birth control problems have been an ongoing problem. . I am a 26 year old nurse. I had been on birth control since about age 16.I was on Ortho tricyclen up until about two and a half years ago. I was noticing that I got nauseated each day around 5 pm when supposedly my hormone level dropped. I would eat and then I would feel better. Now that I think of it, I may have been just a little hypoglycemic. I told my GYN about this and he had me switch to the NuvaRing. I was on that for about 5-6 months when I started to have problems with it. When I had to put it back in after the week out, I would vomit for about 12 hours until my hormone level evened out. After deciding that I was not getting food poisoning each month, and it truly was the ring, I went back to my GYN. He then said that it was too much estrogen for me and prescribed Loestrin 24. I was on that for about 5 months when I started to notice problems. I felt extremely tired all the time. My breasts hurt like hell, and my mood was changing significantly. I was watching TV one night when all of the sudden it felt like someone was just murdered in front of me. I had no idea what was wrong. My husband told me he thought I was having a panic attack. I have never had any problems with anxiety or depression. This happened twice in one week. I had never had any problems with acne, and I looked like I had chicken pox on my back. I was also getting abnormal hair growth. I would cry, and not know why. I then decided that I needed to stop my pills. I called the GYN, and of course they were of no help to me. I then spent about 4-5 months off of BCP's all together. I would still get anxiety the week before my period and then after I started it would get better. I then saw a new GYN who decided it would be good for me to go on Seasonique. I was on that for 5 weeks and all of my symptoms came back. I now have been put on Zoloft to help with my panic attacks. I fight them on a daily basis, and they are more constant than ever before. I truly feel like my hormones are so fucked right now. I have all of these strange thoughts and feel half crazy. I have been to every specialist possible and they all agree that my hormones are out of whack. I am small anyway and have lost about 10 pounds. I only weigh about 98, which is also alarming to me. Okay, well how the hell do you fix all of this without going on another damb pill? I was fitted for a diaphragm and am using that for the time being. I am a smart enough person to know that something is not right. I am seeing a homeopathic specialist this week to try a new approach. I have been to a therapist, and have been tested for everything under the sun. Most frightening was the fact that I was almost put on a beta-blocker. I had a 24 holter monitor for my heart. My median heart rate was in the high 90's. I also had a heart rate that went from 51 to 145 bpm in my sleep. My normal heart rate is in the hig 60's to low 70's. Overall, the Zoloft is starting to help, but I am so angry. I really do feel like we are screwing up our natural chemistry by putting all of these females on hormones. In 20 years or so, we will truly see the effects of what hormone therapy has done to women. It is very scary. I just hope I can get myself evened out. Does anyone have a similar story or any suggestions? Please reply or email me. Any support I can get from other women will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Nurse Billie

Hello,

I read about how YAZ birth control pill affects the body and psych and I am now scared. This is my 2nd day of YAZ (I've never been on birth control pills ever and I am 27 years old), it's all new to me but after reading all these negative posts about Yaz I don't know what to do. Before the birth control pills, I was depressed, annoying, serious weight problems - 210 lbs :~~((, low energy, low libido, always tired, terrible migraines every 2nd day, ridiculously increased appetite and excessive hunger, hair where it shouldn't be, menstrual blood clots, excessive cramping etc
I have all these problems for 3 years now and now that the family doc. put me on YAZ birth control pill I am even more scared - mainly of more weight gain, it would be a tragedy for me, I am fat enough already and what's worse I can't lose the weight, exercise doesn't help, diet doesn't help, NOTHING. Will YAZ birth control pill worsen my already tragic condition? I just don't know what to do and what to believe ... I appreciate any advice or help you can give me ... Thank You to all!

My nine month old daughter was on Omnicef for one day and had red colored stools which we thought may be from the tylenol. She also broke out in a rash the second day (red bumps that looked like chicken pox) in a small area, so we watched it. The next day she had the bumps all over her trunk and head...they kept getting worse and multiplied until she was taken off of the medicine! They do worsen in the sunlight! We kept her in only a diaper for about four days and gave her an oatmeal bath and benadryl, and that helped. She also had night terrors where she would wake screaming and shaking which is very unlike her! She was taken off of the Omnicef by the Dr. and put on Zithromax which has been great!

My four year old son was on omnicef for the very first time. He had a re-occuring ear infection that would not go away with the normal treatment, which was augmentin. The morning of his last dose, he awoke several hours prior to his norm, screaming, crying, and could not get comfortable at all. I awoke to get him a quick drink of water, and he followed me. At that time I had noticed blotches all over his face, neck, hair line, torso, legs, arms, yeah, everywhere. Being that I work in the early childhood field and have a 7 year old as well, I had thought it was just the begining of the ever so popular chicken pox. I gave him a bath in the oatmeal mix and noticed after that the blotches did not come to a head but had now gotten what seemed to be even worse. I called the doctor, at this point extremely concerned, he had never had an allergic reaction to anything before, and he was nearly done with the meds, why now was he having a reaction? I took him in and upon the doctor arriving into the room she peeked inside and yelled to the nurse to get 2 1/2 teaspoons of orapred immediatley, he was displaying an extremely severe allergic reaction to the omnicef. Apparently it takes days to be in thier systems in order to then have the reaction. That was yesterday morning. He is now doing fine, but on benadryl and orapred for several days, I just hope all the hives go completely away. So, what I could say is you never know how your child will react to a new medication, you need to be aware when your child is taking something new all the possible side effects, becuase unfortunatley it can happen to anyone or any child.

I was taking 10 mg of Zocor for years and my doctor increased the dosage to 20 mg. Some time after the increase, my legs hurt so badly that I really was like a cripple. My doctor took me off of it and a few month later put me on Lipitor 10mg....I had been on it for about a year but about 4 months ago I got some sores, sort of like Chicken pox but in a small area, on my face. It itched like mad and took a long time (month or more) to heal, then I started getting itching on my legs and each tiny itchy pimple would turn into a really itchy sore about 1/2 inch in size. The sores would scab over and get white pustules in the middle and after they healed a scar would remain for a quite a while.

Along with this problem, my knees ached at night and my calves were always tired so it was an effort to lift my feet to walk. I went off of the Lipitor two weeks ago and so far have not had another sore and my legs are starting to feel better, I am more sure footed when walking. Along with these symptons, I couldn't go to sleep at night...so I think Lipitor is the culprit.

I was recently given a five day 750mg@day prescription of Levaquin for a treatment of "walking" Pneumonia. During the second day of Levaquin I developed a body rash--like, all over my body. Back to the hospital with seasoned medical "experts" telling me I had "chicken pox", "hives", "herpes", etc..etc... A young female Doctor looked at my rash and diagnosed: "Drug Reaction". She took me off Levaquin, prescribed a two week course of Penicillin, plus drugs to combat the rash and within two weeks the Pneumonia and the body rash was gone. Sooooo, with what I'm reading on this site, my question is: Why is this poison...this Levaquin still being prescribed??

I began taking Zocor May 11, 2004. On June 1, I developed a rash that was diagnosed as Shingles. It is believed that the virus that causes Shingles comes from Chicken Pox and lurks dormant in the body until a suppressed immune system provides conditions for eruption. My internet research shows me that Zocor has been shown to alter immune system response. I think the medical profession needs to re-think prescribing Zocor to patients until it is fully understood whether its benefits outweigh its apparent negative effects on the human immune system. I have stopped taking Zocor and plan to look for a means other than drugs to lower my cholesterol levels.

wow, wrapped to have found this site let me tell u!! I just got back from the dr's fearing i had chicken pox... it seems i have dermatitis all over my body!!!!! The Dr believes it is from a cream... i am certain its from Yasmin... One of the main reasons i took it was because i have been very sensitive to all the other pills i have tried... the last pill i was on also gave me a rash on my face only. the fluid retention is worse then ever...i am eating like never before (not helping that it was just Easter!) I have constant headaches and feel premenstral all the time. I burst out crying when i saw an email i would have normally thought funny and am having fears of dying and really dark thoughts about how short life is!! I stopped it 2 days ago and am still feeling batty... this hormonal stuff is powerful. I heard such good things about this pill- its good to know i am not the only one having trouble.

I have been taking Yasmin for only one week, and have been sick ever since the second day. I started taking the pill last week. I had a baby in May, and the doctor decided this would be a good start for birth control. I have never taken BCP's before and if this is what they do to you, I never will take them again. I have had achy bones and joints, massive headaches, constant pain in my chest and back, and today, I broke out in a fit of acne that is obscene. I look like I have the chicken pox. I am totally disturbed by this. Has anyone had side effects like this in such a short time of taking these pills? I am stopping them today!!!
