Lucky me- I started MACROBID Christmas eve for a UTI. I have never taken it before and felt nausea that night then the next morning (CHRISTMAS!) when I woke up I felt like I had been out drinking the night before. I had the worst hangover-like headache. I was tied all day, no fun on Christmas day with three kids, and then I took my nightly dose and headache got worse and I felt like I was going to vomit for many hours after that. What a crappy Christmas day. And lovely gas all day too. I am going to call the doctor in the morning to see if I can start something else! I will be careful to read from now on the possible side effects on any medications I get and be aware of what is happening to me!

Have had two back to back ER visits because of severe hives on Buproprion (generic wellbutrin). Had been taking it for a little over two weeks. Was told that the wellbutrin couldn't be the cause (is the only drug I was taking) and it must be due to my CHRISTMAS TREE...uh-huh. But I'm a good sport, kept taking the drug even on the day I was in the ER. Hives go down by the first evening but after a shot of benadryl and steroids which knocks me out for the rest of the day. Next day I take oral benadryl, clariton, prescribed steroids, and use hydrocortizone cream (all recommended in ER), new hives but little...end of day, can barely walk because feet and thighs are one big hive. Ears, mouth, shoulders, arms, in between fingers....hives. BACK to the ER (lovely Christmas eve) and am told by a new Doc that it was stupid to keep taking the buproprion. This time more shots don't help. The hives keep coming for several more hours. It's the next day and they have gone down some but were so bad that I have been left with dark bruises in various locations. Yuck.
I had had some initial side effects that were pretty mild and all went away after the first nine days (insomnia, headache, dry mouth) but I will not be waiting to see if my airway stops constricting after a few more days of treatment. So...ouch.

I'd be thrilled to skip a period. Heck, that's why my doctor prescribed Seasonale. The pharmacist, however, gave me Quasense instead. Let's see. It's 2am on Christmas Eve. I have basically been bleeding since HALLOWEEN. This is beyond ridiculous, and I really can't see myself "hanging in there" and waiting for it to stop. If I'm not all-out cramping, then it's just annoying, brown spotting. On top of that, my face has been breaking out since like, the second week of starting it. The insane thing is, I'm on Wellbutrin at the moment-- that pill is noted to decrease appetite and increase sex drive. I'm pretty sure Quasense is canceling THAT out entirely; I'm always hungry, and if I never had sex again I'd probably be thrilled. Worst. Birth Control. Ever.

I am 41 years old yesterday. I am 6'3" and 190 lbs. I have been on the med since Christmas Eve 2005. I had a BP of 200 over 120 when my sister, an RN, noticed I seemed hypertensive (my job is can be very stressful). With a family history of high BP and heart attack, she admitted me for tests. Head CT and chest were clear. I was started on 10mg for two weeks, then progressed to 20mg. I had no symptoms other than urgency to urinate quickly after meals and more often. My BP has come down to 140 over 96 as of yesterday. My doctor has progressed me to 40mg effective this morning. I am a little dizzy and unfocused. I am going to increase my exercise this evening to include situps. Hopefully, this will increase heartrate, and maintain the systollic pressure while the diastollic decreases. That should take care of the dizziness by oxygenating my blood more effeciently. I will keep you posted.

hello everyone - i was prescribed levaquin on christmas eve for a severe sinus infection. i took one 500mg pill daily for 10 days. i had several of the side effects you've had - insomnia, loss of appetite, pain in my back (which i don't usually have), headache, bizarre dreams (the few times i could sleep), and others. i've been off the drug for over two weeks now and i still experience insomnia (though to a lesser degree), upset stomach, and my appetite is still markedly decreased. i went to www.levaquin.com and read the prescribing info and found all of what i feel is due to the drug. when will my appetite return and when will i feel like myself again??? the sinus infection was awful but the levaquin side effects are almost worse!! i'll never take this antibiotic again!! i've taken bactrim and keflex before and though i did have a few side effects, they were NOTHING like this. for all our sakes, i hope this won't be one of those drugs we'll hear about in a few months that's been withdrawn from the market and has been found to cause god knows what!!! no one ever told me to avoid caffeine and ibuprofen while taking it. i was told to avoid vitamins, antacids, and dairy products two hours before and after a dose, and was also told to stay out of prolonged sunlight. i did take advil on occasion during the course of treatment, however (neither doc or pharmacist mentioned not taking ibuprofen). physicians don't know most side effects of the drugs (especially the newer drugs) they prescribe anyway. they only know what the rep from the drug company tells them when they come to their offices. i happen to have a pdr and have mentioned side effects from other medications to physicians, only to hear 'where did you get that info from?' DUH! be educated consumers, my friends, it's YOUR body and your responsibility to ask questions as well as do your own research. keep safe and well. happy new year.

Hi girls,
just a quick question for thse OFF YASMIN I have been off yasmin since nov this year and tonight went to docs as i had a abcess in my mouth and whilst i was there i had HEART PALPITATIONs and after him putting me on antibioticsi asked for him to take my blood pressure as this has been up since yasmin days and it was 140/100 and he was concerned but just said come back in 1 week, is that a normal after yasmin effect, i mean i went christmas eve had a huge day and i did not feel stressed but have since found that being on yasmin it takes no stress to raise any levels even my cholestrol has been high. My doc sad there is no way the yasmin would still be in my system after 4 weeks, i know from all the posts that this is not true but he just made me feel i should be frantic . Has anyone suffered the high blood pressure after coming off the yasmin, its been almost 8 weeks for me...
thanks any advice would be appreciated.
Merry Christmas
Lisa

Was given prednisone for an allergic reaction (to Wellbutrin, we think) -- 5 mg 2X daily. Didn't seem to work, so they put on 20mg 3X daily for several days, and gradually decreasing. It's been since Christmas eve with a rash on my arms and legs and it's better, but not completely gone yet. I still wake up scratching. I've been finished with the treatment for 2 days.
The side effects I've experienced are sweating profusely, anxiety (rapid heart rate, etc), night sweats, strange dreams, insomnia and CRAZY APPETITE. I just keep eating and eating and nothing tastes right. It took me two weeks to figure out that it was the drug making me eat. I've also experience pretty severe gas that disrupts my work day and home life (my poor husband had to leave the room!)
I'll be so glad when this is over!

wow. It is great and depressing to read these. Here is my saga. Started Lipitor 10 mg in late 2002. Told my internist that I had muscle weakness in early 2003. She said it couldn't be the lipitor because it would have shown up sooner. So, I stayed on it until this fall the pain got so bad that I had an MRI that showed arthritis. I could barely walk in the mornings and nothing seemed to help. Was being treated for arthristis on celebrex and pain killers when a friend came to visit for New York and told me about her pain issues with Zocor. I took my last lipitor on Christmas Eve and already feel better. The pain in the left leg is still there and the knee problems. Lots of you are asking when the pain goes away. Does anyone know.

I am totally upset by reading the posts here. my son is just now 8 months old. he was put on singulair when he was just 6 months old. at first it seemed to be working...for maybe 2 weeks...then everything went crazy. he was started out on it when his pediatrician stated that he had asthma and apparently was on a very high dosage of it. they started him on 10 mg of the oral granules. before taking it he was a very happy baby, even with him being so young i never had any problems with him crying excessively or being massively irritated. since he started on the medication he has had massive irritability spells, constant fussing and crying and cant seem to fall asleep at night let alone stay asleep very long. i had taken him to the emergency room on christmas eve because a new problem showed up. he now was having a massive hard time breathing, he had a persistant cough, congestion in his chest and was almost always gasping for air. the staff at the hospital were in disbelief when they were informed that his pediatrician had put him on singulair at such a young age and at such a high dosage. i am now in the process of obtaining a lawyer and filing a lawsuit against the pediatrician for medical malpractice. this drug is very dangerous for anyone especially children. i would suggest anyone else having these problems with their child and this drug do the same. it can apparently cause long term lung damage, pulmonary disorders and even death. my son has been off of the medication since christmas eve and has already done a massive turn around. he sleeps well and through the night again, his breathing has improved and his cough is almost gone. they did say in the E.R that he has congestion in his chest due to the singulair but it should clear up over time with the help of zyrtec. please help make a stand and protect our children from the dangers our own pediatricians present to them.
