I started on Paxil about 14 months ago for extreme panic attacks. The doctor first started me on Zoloft but it made me dizzy sick and I got off of it after 1 dose. So he switched me to Paxil. The Paxil helped a lot with the attacks but if I'm even 2 hours late taking my pill, I'm so dizzy I can't walk. I cannot focus on a book or the computer screen. The lights are way WAY too bright for me all of the sudden. Moving my eyes in my head makes me feel like I'm spinning in circles. I start sweating and have to go outside in the 30 degree weather in a T-shirt to cool off. After about 2 hours the pill gets in my system and I'm fine again. I can think clearly and see fine. My concentration is back and my ears stop ringing. The first 6-8 months of Paxil I lost weight, had gotten down to a very low weight. Then it turned around and I gained weight in the next 6-8 months. Paxil is wonderful at getting rid of anxiety/panic attacks or panic disorder. But it seems as though you must stay on this forever. I am terrified of coming off of this drug. My husband came off of it with a little dizziness. He just stopped one day and that was it. But me, knowing if I'm late with the pill I'll be ILL.. I just know it's going to be horrible coming off of Paxil. I'm only on 10 mg. Never more, never less. That's a fairly small dose compared to what I've been reading. But it has a large effect on me. Good luck to you all when trying to get off of this drug. Consider staying on a small dose for a while then very very slowly coming down from that.

i'm glad that i found this site...thank you.
I have a seven year old boy and a four year old girl that have both been on singulair for a couple of years. The first year their allergies weren't that bad, so i didn't really make sure that they took it daily...the past year, allergies have been worse, so i was making sure that they took it daily and that they didn't miss a dose. My son was in 1st grade last year and by the end of fall, he was going to the nurses office daily for headaches and stomachs. Where his drawings used to be of flowers and all of us as a family, they started being of monsters. We also noticed that his pupils were dilated more than normal (you could barely see any of the colored part of his eyes) and took him to an eye doctor just to find out that his eyes were fine and there was no medical reason for the dilation. I also asked the doctor and the school to test for ADD/ADHD, with them saying that he didn't have it..At night, both my son and daughter started waking up for no apparent reason (they had both slept through the night since they were about 1) and being very scared for no reason. The mood changes have been more noticeable in my son, but like most, i chalked it up to "a phase" and just part of being a boy....my daughter got clingier and moodier, but i know how it is to be a girl, so i just took it with a grain of salt. My kids have not been on Singulair for approx. a week now, and my son is back to the boy i knew....skipping through the house and yard, catching bugs to just look at them and not pull them apart and kill them, sleeping through the night, no trips to the nurses, and eyes that seem to be normal again...my daughter is actually a pleasant little girl that can't wait til she see's her brother instead of pinching, hitting, and trying to hurt her brother........Long story short, since they've been off of singulair, i have my kids back. my son had circles under his eyes at times and a runny nose at times and we have to find something to help my daughters allergies (she gets eczema and is borderline asthmatic) but we will deal with that and find something that works without harming them.....
Thanks again.

I was recently prescribed Cipro for a UTI. I've been on it for 6 days now. The first night was crazy. I felt excitable and when I finally did fall asleep I had the most intricate, amazing dream, almost lucid. The next day I felt a boost of energy and was running circles around my husband while doing yard work. The third day was when the pain hit, soreness in my elbows, knees, feet and hands. I attributed it to my previous day of insane energy. Right now I'm feeling quite bloated and I have this dull pain that feels like it's in the marrow of my bones. I have a tingly sensation in my muscles and my mind is a foggy, yet racing haze. Two more days of this and I'm hoping for the best. I didn't even know I had a UTI. I just know I was feeling very lethargic and had horrible pains in my left side and bad back aches, which now leads me to believe I had a kidney infection. Hate to say it, but I think I am experiencing the lesser of two evils. What's worse, raging, possibly life-threatening bacteria, or anti-biotic over kill with severely inconvenient side-effects?

Both my children, ages 4 and 7, are currently taking Singulair chewable tablets for their seasonal allergies. They have been doing so for about three months. At first, I was not consistent in giving them the medicine. It wasn't until recently that I decided I should give it to them as prescribed, once daily before bedtime. During this time I heard about an incident linking this medication to a suicide. I shrugged it off thinking this could not happen to my children. Little did I know that this medication has other serious side effects linked to it. For the past few weeks, my own 7 year old daughter has experienced many of those side effects including stomache aches, headaches, trouble falling asleep, irritability, mood swings, crying spells, and traumatic nightmares. She used to be a fun loving child who loved waking up to go to school. Now she does not want to get up in the morning and hates going to school. She cries easily over the smallest thing and complains frequently of headaches and stomach aches. My son on the other hand has become overly aggressive and I had concluded that maybe his video games or cartoons were to blame. Well, today I found your website and I will take them both off the medication indefinitely! Their allergies were not as severe to begin with so I figure that they should do okay without it. I will probably look into more natural/ herbal remedies to soothe them when they do get their allergies. I will definitley be reporting back as to their results.

Here is some perspective for you all. I take Singulair and do well on it and in ACTUAL studies it has one of the safest safety records. Understand that post marketing reporting does not mean there is a correlation between the event and the product. Throughout the life of a drug the companies must disclose any report of side effects reported to them REGARDLESS of causality. A popular antihistamine that is OVER THE COUNTER also has suicidal thinking/behavior listed in its post marketing section. However, just because patients who had reported having these thoughts while taking the product doesn't mean it was a result of the product! Maybe they had a depressive personality and were also on multiple other medicines to treat that. You must look at the "Adverse Reactions, Warnings and Precautions" sections of package inserts to see the side effects that were actually seen in studies. You can die from ulcers derived from over use of aspirin or ibuprofen. Decongestants can throw off your blood pressure and these events are documented in actual studies! Listen to your bodies when taking any med. If you feel differently report it to your doctor.
These are all drugs people, there are potential side effects. There are also side effects to those "natural" over the counter remedies that are not nearly as regulated by the FDA or studies by the drug companies.
To anyone out there who has experienced side effects to singulair timed to when you started it, talk to your doctor, stop taking it and see if it goes away. Same advice for any product prescription or over the counter medicine. Side effects can be a combination of many factors (what other meds are you taking?) But understand for many people this product is the safest and most effective treatment for them. The FDA and Merck are reviewing all information to see if there is any correlation to the reporting. But singulair been around for about 10 years and prescibed to billions of people and is known to be one of the safer medicines out there overall.
In between the legitimate posts on this site I get the sense there is a lot of ambulance chasing going on. People looking to cash in on this big drug companies. We want drugs, we want them cheap and with no side effects which is not a reality. Keep stepping up the regulation and make the companies hire more lawers to protect themselves and jump through even more hoops and see what happens to the price and access to new meds. Even better, see how regulation has impacted the development of new medicines around the world (here's a tip, it will dramatically decrease). Drug companies certainly aren't perfect but which industry is?
Please, when taking any medicine over the counter, prescription or herbal supplement listen to your bodies to see if the potential benefits of the product outway the risks or side effects. Report any changes to your doctor.

OMG! I am so glad I came across this web site. The posts are amazing! I never would have connected all of my side effects with the Mirena. I thought only my bizarre bleeding was due to Mirena and now all my other problems make sense. First of all, I had the Mirena installed in June 2007. I thought it was awesome and even recommended it to my friends (just like the other person--SORRY!) Anyway, for about the last 4 months I don't bleed red, only brown. Yes, only brown! At first I didn't really care but now it is to the point that whenever I have sex (which like the others I don't really want) I bleed brown. Right now it has been 3 weeks of brown bleeding! So, by the time this stops, I will get my period. So, my husband and I are averaging sex about 1 times a month. I also have the rash under my wedding ring, which I never would have associated with Mirena, but a previous post did. I have been getting dizzy and lightheaded lately and figured it was either my sugar or BP, but both of those are fine. I also have the worst hip pain ever--hip pain?? What, am I 90 years old! I sure feel like it. I am always tired- I even take naps with my kids! My mother, who is 60 runs circles around me. She helps me so much that I can't even use the excuse that I am tired because of running a household. At least I am not depressed, however, I do go through some pretty tough mood swings. I also have a weird smell coming off of me, not a bad smell, just weird. It is coming out of my skin. I have swollen ankles and my fingernails look like crap. I used to grow such long beautiful nails and now they break and split. I don't want to blame everything on Mirena. I am sure that the way I eat and lack of exercise have a lot to do with it. I am overweight and until now I have blamed my symptoms on my extra 50 pounds. However, the bleeding I am sure, is due to Mirena and that is reason enough for me to have it removed. I am going to call my doctor today and have it removed..I am done with it. I will post back in a few months and let you know if there have been any changes. Thank you everyone for letting me know that I am not crazy!

I have a 19 month old baby and she was prescribed Singulair when she was 15 months old after a bad bout of pneumonia. So she has been on it for 4 months and I haven't seen any severe side effects. To be honest, I am one of those people that follows whatever her pediatrician recommends and I trust that after 25 years as a doctor, he knows what he is doing. But all of these reports are now terrifying me. I haven't noticed any change in her behavior or moods, and she has always been a very rambunctious baby so if there has been any change (like increased aggression or anxiety) it is hard to tell in such a small child. Has anyone had any experience giving Singulair to a child this young (under 2)?

Wow. Thank god for this Bulletin! I was diagnosed with hypertension at age 28
and tried a variety of drugs with no control over the BP. So, about 2 1/2 - 3 years ago, I was prescribed 100MG of Toprol XL which seemed to control it well, but with debilitating long term illness. I had no idea until today that Toprol XL was causing similar grief to others. The horrible symptoms that I have been experiencing now for several years are Extreme Chronic Fatigue, Profuse Cold Clammy Sweating, Dizzy spells, weight gain, seeing specs of light and thousands of eye floaters, severe depression, muscle aches, headaches.
After reading about others with similar side effects, I am confident that it's from this medication. I have had all kinds of testing done including T3 & T4 Throid levels and a full array of blood work with NO LUCK! Regardless of the consequences, I am going to quit this damn medicine today because it appears to take 5 weeks or so to get it out of the body to notice a difference. I am so desperate for change. It is ruining my life because I can
't wake up, I'm always tired even though I get 10-14 hours of sleep. My wife and kids are bummed because I have no energy to do anything, EVER!
If you have any other suggestions or would like to comment about this.
Sincerely,
Sean

I was prescribed Topamax with Wellbutrin in combination by a Psychiatrist to aid with an eating disorder. He told me how this was an "off-label" use of the drug and warned me about side effects like the tingling hands and feet, but assured me that drinking plenty of water and making sure that I get enough Potassium in my diet would be enough. He never once mentioned anything about my eyes.
When I picked up the medication, the Pharmacist went over the information and asked if I had questions. He did not once say anything about my eyes, vision, or glaucoma.
I started with 25mg on Dec 18, 2007 and went up to 50mg on Jan 9th, 2008. On Jan 26th, anytime I would stand up from a sitting position, I would get an intense pressure in my head, ears, and a very forceful pressure behind my eyes, and also rainbow circles popping up in my vision when I moved my eyes around. If I stood still and waited anywhere from 30seconds to 2minutes, the pressure would go away and I could function just fine until the next time I sat for more than 10-15minutes.
I called my Psychiatrist and he recommended that I drink more fluids and take a multi-vitamin. No mention of glaucoma.
The next day (yesterday), the same "head rush" was happening only it lasted longer and felt like a mini-migraine. I started looking online and WOW, there is info everywhere about the side effects.
I did not take the Topamax last night and this afternoon I have an appointment to see my eye doctor. I will also be looking for a new Psychiatrist. The way doctors are bribed to push meds is frightening.
The drug combo he prescribed really did help the way he said it would, but I would never have risked my eyesight!!!!!

I was prescribed LEVAQUIN for a sinus infection. This was my first time to hear about or take this. I have had reactions to Keflex in the past. So, within about three hours of taking Levaquin, I had red spots and was manic mad. I felt like some maniac. A few hours later, I had two deep and bright red circles on my stomach. The burning was like a fire and it was actually hot to the touch. My roommate touched it and it felt like fire to them. I stopped the medication and went to see my doctor that Monday. The pain was continuing. The Levaquin Rep just happened to be in the office when I was there. He said, "Yep, happens to about 1 in 10 people" The burning later turned into a black spot, about three inches in diameter. I felt and WAS burned. Also, my bicep muscle hurt and the pain in my shoulder was unbelievable. I've read about all of the other posts about muscle pains. My ortho doctor said I have a torn bicep muscle. Now, I work out but am not a muscle guy by any means. I have two female friend and one went numb from head to toe on exactly one side. The other friend had SEVERE burns all over her body, her skin fell off and hair fell out. She has been fighting side effects inside and out from Levaquin. We both feel that we were burned from the drug. Her case was MUCH more serious than mine. My heart goes out to all of you for your pain and loss. This drug needs exposure.

I found this website by mistake and OMG i think it was mean't for me to find this. I have a 7 year old who has been taking SINGULAIR for 2 years. I never pin-pointed his behavior to his medicines(Singulair,Zyrtec,Nasonex). I feel terrible if this is why he has been acting out the last couple of years. He has been disruptive, aggresive, doesn't follow directions, complains of stomache aches, wets the bed, says he doesnt feel good. He has trouble sitting still and blurts out answers in school. We trusted our PED and assumed he would give us any info on bad side affects. I wished I would have checked into the a long time ago I feel terrible if this is what has been causing all this negativity. He also has "bad dreams" and has circles under his eyes that his allergist always said was "allergic shiners". I stopped giving him SINGULAIR a week ago but I havent noticed any big changes.Could anyone tell me how long it takes for this medicine to get out of a 7 year olds body? Thanks a concerned mother....

Tingling on surface of skin, sore joints, leg cramps. Started taking potassium and the cramps went away. Used to walk my dogs several miles a day after work. No longer have the energy. Tired after a good night's sleep. Loss of motivation. Also experiencing ringing in my ears, headaches and dizziness. I get vertigo just riding my mower in wide circles around trees. My ankles never have been swollen. Now they are swollen on a regular basis. My feet and legs are painful for no reason.

Hi again. I wrote in about 10 days ago reporting that I had switched from Diovan to Lisinopril, and suspected Lisinopril was causing increased anxiety/depression. Just to be sure, I ran this past a psychiatrist who confirmed that what happened was a "classic drug reaction". I would take 10mg. lisinopril at bedtime. Within minutes, I would feel wide awake and agitated. I could not "turn off", even though I was tired. It would take some time to get to sleep. (The last few days that I took the drug, I paced circles around the house until the wee hours of the morning!) During the day I felt confused and anxious, and in the late evenings felt emotionally and physically exhausted and depressed. I had a hard time solving even simple problems. Then I would take that day's bedtime dose, and the cycle would start over.
After stopping the Lisinopril and switching back to Diovan, I noticed almost immediate improvement. It felt like a fog had lifted. In just a week I was pretty much back to normal. No need for SSRIs! I am not pleased that my insurance company is pushing this drug and plan to voice a complaint and register my concerns. In the meantime, I am paying for the Diovan out of pocket, and will be much more cautious about any future changes!
Best wishes to all...

I am 31 years old. I had my daughter when I was 24 and developed pregnancy induced hypertension. After her birth my high blood pressure never went away. My doctor and I went around in circles trying to find a birth control that wouldn't make my blood pressure crazy. We finally came across the NuvaRing. I was so excited that it worked. My blood pressure was regulating and it was so perfect because I didn't have to remember a pill and I didn't have to worry about the patch showing in my bathing suit!!! I've been on the NR for almost years now and I'd say the first year or two were good. But I've had all kinds of problems that I just didn't know what was wrong with me anymore. I've had terrible headaches, nausea, severe depression, fatigue, anger issues, crying uncontrollably and lately my hair is falling out in the shower (in chunks). I actually went to a hospital and sat in the parking lot for hours because I thought I was going crazy. Every now and then I thought MAYBE it could be my birth control but then I thought, surely not! The only reason I finally started checking into this is because my boyfriend and I,who I've been with for a year and half, are having some serious issues in the bed. I have lost all desire to have sex. He keeps asking me what he did that made me not like sex with him anymore. I've tried to explain I have no idea what is wrong with me. Now I know. I hate to get off the birth control especially since I had such a hard time finding on that wouldn't effect my blood pressure, which I still take medication for, but this is killing me. I literally feel terrible. I don't wanna get out of bed and my head always hurts. I'm only 31. I shouldn't feel like this. Im so glad I found this website and Im not alone.
