AHHHH! I'm so mad right now that I decided to google this stupid bc and here I am =] I'm so sick of being bloated! Grrr I am always soso bloated it's insane! Sometimes I have to lay on my back on the floor to keep from exploding! It's even causing back pain. I have never felt so fat in my life. I have gained like ten pounds in the first month and I work out like a crazy person?? This is horrible! However, I haven't had the decrease in sex drive like everyone is saying? So that's good I guess. Im quitting this stuff! I'm tired of midol malox cocktails and always feeling fat! Oh! And my boobs went up a cup size and they ALWAYS hurt! I really can't deal with fluctuating ten pounds....IN MY BRA!

After being on NR for about 2 years, 2 weeks ago I stopped using it because I lost my job/insurance and didn't have means to get another Rx at the time. I was pleased with it until I stopped using it. I had been in a 3 year relationship that ended about a year ago for many reasons but, a large one being my lack of interest in sex or even having him touch me. I didn't think anything of it other than I must not have been attracted to him anymore. I am in a new relationship with someone I adore and still... really had no desire to have sex. Seemed I had to have a few cocktails before anything would ever happen and even then I would never orgasm and it would be painful due to lack of lubrication. I began to think I just wasn't meant to enjoy or want sex (even questioned my sexuality) Low and behold its been about 2 weeks since I stopped NR and I can't keep my hands off him. I've had an orgasm every time since and we are having or at least I'm wanting sex daily if not more. It seems my mind is in the gutter all day and it feels wonderful to know that I am not destined for a life without great sex and that the whole time it was just my stupid birth control.

There have also been other things I've noticed and am relating after reading everyone elses problems. I would get frequent headaches (3-5 weekly) they have seemed to subside. I would get painful cramping but, just assumed it was due to PMS. I have a small patch of hair missing on the side of my head... I had no idea why that was missing and now I am hoping that it will grow back. I too was also "down in the dumps" wouldn't say depressed but the last year or so I have frequent mood swings... those have also seemed to subside. All of these things were tolerable except my non-existent sex drive THAT IS NOT OK!!

I will not be refilling my Rx for NR and will try something else hopefully with a greater success story. It is worth a try if you haven't had it but, BEWARE and BE CONSCIENCE of your body. If I would have put 2 and 2 together I would have been off it long ago.

Thanks for this site and thanks for reading.

I have Bipolar Type II, since I was 12. I'm 52 now. Unmedicated I'm a Rapid Cycler with psychotic depression. I was diagnosed at age 40, after worse and worse symptoms. So I have been on meds since - many different "cocktails" some effective and some not so effective.
My doc added Celexa to the mix a few years ago. It seemed to work well for the depression part of the bipolar, but I had bad ringing in my ears and incredible cravings for carbs. I got used to the ringing, but was very frustrated with the appetite out of control - so guilty!
Then I went on Wellbutrin and it was fantastic. Weaned myself (slow decrease in dosage over a month or so) and my appetite returned to normal so I was very happy.
Those of you who are starting it - don't judge the immediate symptoms - it takes a few weeks for it to settle into your system and be effective.
Those of you who are quitting - do it slowly or you'll have bad symptoms. It's OK to break the pills in half.

I have Bipolar Type II, since I was 12. I'm 52 now. Undedicated I'm a Rapid Cycler with psychotic depression. I was diagnosed at age 40, after worse and worse symptoms. So I have been on meds since - many different "cocktails" some effective and some not so effective.
My doc put me on Seroquel a couple of years ago and it has worked very well to "quell" the mood swings. But... I started to gain weight immediately! Lots of weight. I had been 118 my entire adult life, and within months weighed 148! My family accused me of not exercising, but no, it was the Seroquel alone. Also, it knocks you out, so I could only use it at night. The 500 mgs would first make my heart race and thump in my chest then put me to sleep. At times it was scary. Then in the morning I'd wake up feeling hungover and fuzzy brain for several hours. It also made my appetite crazy, craving carbs, which made the weight gain harder to control. So even though the drug worked for the bipolar, it made me absolutely miserable because of the weight.
Now after a few years I have had it!. A month ago I began weaning myself from it. A word to those who cold turkey the drug: you'll experience bad symptoms. I'd go down 25 to 5o mgs per week, monitoring my moods VERY carefully, and am now at 200 mgs per day. The weight loss was immediate and in that one month I've lost 15 lbs an still losing but now much slower - but still losing. Wow.
I meet with my doc in two weeks - hope she's not mad at me, but I'm doing OK. I'm on enough meds so they seem to be doing the job. (The least amount to do the job is the goal anyway.) Hopefully I can go off of Seroquel completely and get near my old adult weight.
BTW, my doc mentioned last appointment that Geocodone could be a non-weight gain substitute for Seroquel.

I have been taking Depakote / Dilantin cocktails for over 10 years !! 600mg Dilantin and 3000mg Depakote every day !! If I miss a few pills or a dosage
I will inevitably have a traumatic grand mal seizure. The funny thing is, I have not experienced many of the side effects you guys speak of. I have gained some weight in the last few years (20lbs), but I'm also getting to that age ( 49 ) where guys put on a few pounds.

It is very scary knowing that my body (brain) could be this screwed-up !!
I wish my wife was more understanding about this - although its tough for her too...

Hi,My biggest side effects are the hair loss, limb swelling, insomnia, halucinations(unless my dead dog really is a ghost),memory loss, numbness in legs and arms, tingling in arms and hands expecially when I cough or sneeze, sinus stuffiness and infections and cronic bronchitis.Allthough I have these side effects I personally think that I am better off taking the singulair for my asthma(does not help my allergy symptoms at all) than when I was on all the allergy meds and streoids.I used to have a bag load of those and I was allways having attacks, was depressed and thought of suicide but then I did the study for singulair about 15 years ago and thought it was a miracle cure so I waited for it to come out on the market.I know it is not a miracle cure but I don't have to take those other meds anymore and I only use my fast acting inhailer mabee once a month now.I am now 6 months pregnant and will be looking for an alternative treatment from a hollistic/natural Dr. after I have the baby. There has got to be a better way to control this disease,I hope, naturally through diet and other remadies with less or no side effects to treat my allergies and asthma. If anyone knows of such tratments, please post it.Thanks.LR

have been on about 3 months; seem to urinate more; occasional stiffness in my neck; hot flashes; some confusion with short term memory. Any one have the same issues? I also drink three cocktails per night. Is alcohol an issue?
