a few hours after i took levaquin, i went to BK and got a cheeseburger. i had just had a csection and was having a hard time recovering. i thought the pain i was having had something to do with the surgery but i started to realize it was the levaquin. it was like everything i tried to eat kind of got stuck going down. it hurt so badly i just stopped eating. i was so weak and my muscles were so weak. ias so weak that i had to concentrate really hard on my breathing. i didn't realize it was the levaquin until later that night. i started getting giant red spots on my arms and on my forehead. they were on fire and it was miserable... my husband had a bowl of ice cold water and ice packs and rags in the freezer. he was running around like a mad man trying to keep bringing me cold rags. every time he would put them on the red spots, the rags would be hot within seconds. my mom thought i should just jump into the cold shower but i had to explain to her that i was also freezing at the same time. finally my mom did some research and found out that this happens so the doctor said to take benadryl for a few days until the medicine wears off. i will never take that crap again... it was such a weird and terrible experience.

I am currently going through what you have described. I am on my sixth day of using Niaspan er 500mg. It is around midnight and my entire body is on FIRE, I itch, red blotches and my hair feels like needles pinching my skin when I move. My face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and legs was literally RED hot to touch, not to mention my heart started to race and felt like I needed some fresh air or cold shower to calm down. From what I read on (******) it sounds like I was flushing and had a reaction to the medicine. I am 33 years old and in good health. It seems like you should take Niaspan at bedtime and take with ibuprofen to reduce side effect. The funny thing is I have been taking ibuprofen all week since my low back is aching…Go figure. Not sure if I will continue. Plan to check with doctor tomorrow.

I came home from work and opened my new bottle of Niaspan er 500mg. It was late and my wife was asleep. I read the bottle and it said take 2 tablets before bed with food. I did and about 4 hours later, my entire body was on FIRE and my hair felt like needles pinching my skin when I moved. I can deal with a hot flash or flushing but I was literally RED hot to touch, forget the feeling that I was having a heart attack or stroke.
I am only 41 years old in good health and a little low good cholesterol. I tried again few days later with one pill(after my wife had a good laughed) and experience the same nightmare. No hot flash, I was BURNING RED and my hairs were needles pinching my skin as I put ice packs around my neck.
I understand this is just a form of vitamin B-3??? Has anyone tried some form of herbal version of a B-vitamin?? Has anyone tried to take during the daytime????

This site has helped me understand that Im not alone on the side effects of the Niaspan ER . My doctor told me to take 500mg to start and I did the first night I was fine for about 2 hours then the flushing hit me ! I have never in my life been so scared ... I was swelling from my head to my feet .My lips tongue mouth and throat I was having trouble breathing then on top of that I was getting redder by the minute and burning along with the itching and chills. I started running a fever .... I took a cold shower while my husband called the ER . When I was able to get out of the shower I took a benadryl as to what the ER told me to do .But it did take some time for the side effects to calm down ... I called my doctor and said I refused to take this medication again .... So understand all medications my have side effects and can effect you differently then me but please be warned . Talk to your doctor about these side effects ......

My symptoms are the same as all (anxiety, mood swings, low sex drive) and I plan to have this thing taken out ASAP. It has been so bad lately that I cannot function. I've had more panic attacks than I can count in the last couple of weeks. What I want to know is how people fare on the other side of things. I would imagine it takes a while for your body to regulate after removal, but how long. And to echo- no more artificial things in my body.
Side note- has anyone tried cold shower therapy, apple cider vinegar or lemon balm for the anxiety? (******)

I went to the Dr office for help sinus and kidney bladder infection. My regular Dr was off so I seen his partner. He prescribed Avelox , he said it would take care of both. I filled the script. When I got home my kids and their families had come to visit . so I took my pill ,started to cook. 15 minutes later it was time to sit down( they wanted breakfast food) I started to itch. The itch got worse to where I wanted to scratch my skin off . I got up from the table and went to the bathroom to grab some Benadryl pills I took 2 , they did not relieve anything so I jumped into an ice cold shower, still no relief. I called my youngest into the bathroom and said u have to take me some where now . At that point I was nervous , sunburn effect, eyes bloodshot a solid hive from head to toe and swollen really bad all over, mouth , throat and tongue really dry.confusion weak and sick to my stomach.. When I got to the ambulatory the nurse ask me insurance questions, a few minutes later I said all that is on file , look lady I can't think straight , my legs are weak and I feel like I could throw up on you as I am leaning on the counter more to keep me from falling. I said it a second time as all most of my weight is on that counter now. Then my daughter said I think she needs a wheel chair now. They got me into the wheel chair and into the room Which i don't remember getting there) stood me up and onto the first step they didn't turn me around then i just fell onto the table. The nurse said u have to turn over so I can get your vitals. I finally got turned over and she took my blood pressure. she said u have to go to the hospital, I said call my girl in and she can take me. she said no u have to go by ambulance I said she can take me and she replied back to me --------look lady u are fighting for your life, your blood pressure is 60 over 40 and dropping.they put oxygen mask on me and off we went. At the hospital the Dr gave me 3 intervenes shot and I think I passed out a few hours later I awoke and hives started to go away, but I was still anxious and weak when I left.he prescribed Prednisone and Pepcid A week and a half i still have problems sleeping and anxious but getting better will never take that pill again. I never have reactions to meds.

I started taking NIASPAN last Wednesday night 500mg and on Thurday night I awoke at 330am feeling like I was on FIRE. My whole body was burning and my skin was turning redder and redder by the minute. I jumped in the cold shower and stayed there for 45 min. I then started getting the shakes and very rapid heartbeat and my tongue was purple. I advised my doctor that I will not take this medicine and proceeded to throw it out. Can you imagine the long term affects of this medicine. How can a rapid heartbeat and burning feeling be actually good for you. I AM OFF THIS MEDICINE AND ADVISE anyone else to think twice about going on it.

The flushing is tolreable. The itching is intolerable. I'd rather have heart surgery than suffer with that infernal itching. My cardiologist believes the severe itching is unrelated to the Niaspan because the reaction has only occured twice since I started taking the medication 6 months ago. I disagree. It seems to me the itching is caused by the Niaspan, together with some other unknown factor. There may be something to the "spicy food" suggestion posted by others. Last night, I ate a bunch of hot peppers an hour or so before taking the Niaspan. I woke at 3 am, with a mild hot flash, followed by the dreaded itching. Pure torment! My chest, back and legs were bright red. A cold shower helped a little. On the first occasion, two months ago, Benedril help some, but relief did not begin for over an hour after taking it. (Take at least two tablets!) But last night, I didn't mess around with Benedril. Instead, I took two codine tablets I had left over from surgery. Relief! If you are suffering from this terrible side-effect, may God be with you!

Starting ever 3-4 months, then every 1 to 6 weeks with no known trigger I get a burning skin sensation that comes on suddenly and within 10 minutes or so I feel blow torch heat staring with neck and face then limbs and trunk that actually looks exactly like a sunburn, but feels about 10x worse and no peel afterwards. And my face muscles weaken, face droops, and I look 10 years older at it's peak. These "attacks" usually only last 30 to 45 minutes and driving with AC on full blast or taking a cold shower is the only relief during. All I know for sure is this never happened in my 44 years until prescribed gabapentin.(Nuerontin). I have GAD and my doctor suggested a 400 mg pill along with at Xanax 4x a day. I have tapered down to 1 gabapentin in the mornining and intend to quit in 10 days. Bad news is I've been at the low dose for the last 6 months out of the 18 months on it and the attacks haven't changed as hoped, in fact I'm writing because I just had one last Thursday and again today (Monday, only 4 days later)... a new record for shortest span between attacks. Could recognize no benefit or difference with regards to it's effectiveness treating my Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The Xanax as needed appears to be all I need alone. Only exception being that early on if I took my 100 mg Xanax w/out a gabapentin you could get drowsy while driving.... I break them in 1/2 doses or drink coffee, does the trick. I'm on only these two drugs and don't see the same side affects posted about Xanax so I deduced it's the gabapentin and am stopping it. Yes I too noticed occasional blurred vision, confusion, and munchies, reduced libido, more difficult or no orgasm as well on gabapentin. Too bad.

I AM GLAD I AM NOT ALONE..... THERE IS NOTHING MORE FEARFUL THAN BEING ON THIS DRUG. WHILE IN THE (ARMY) SERVICE I WAS BITTEN BY AN INSECT AND HAD A SEVRE REACTION TO IT WITH OUT ANY TEST OR BLOOD WORK BEING DONE THEY PUT ME ON THIS WONDER DRUG. 3 HOURS AFTER TAKING THE DRUG MY AIR WAY WAS TIGHTENING UP MY SKIN COVERED HEAD TO TOE IN A RASH THAT BURNED WORSE THAN A SEVRE SUNBURN AND WHEN SPEAKING TO THE DRILL SARGENT HE TOLD ME TO GO TO BED. DISOBEYING I JUMPED INTO A COLD SHOWER TO GET SOME RELIF FROM THE PAIN. THE NEXT DAY I WENT BACK TO THE TMC (TROOP MEDICAL CLINIC) WERE MY DOSE WAS HIKED UP FORM 20MGS 3 TIME A DAY TO 50MGS 4 TIMES A DAY. NOT BEING TESTED AGAIN I WAS SENT BACK TO MY COMPANY. 3 DAYS LATER I WAS SENT TO THE NAVAL CLINIC WHERE THE DR. HAD ME TAKE 20MGS 3 TIME A DAY ALONG WITH THE 50MGS 4 TIMES A DAY SO A TOTAL OF 260MGS A DAY. 3 HOURS AFTER MY FIRST 260MGS I WAS BEING DRUG BY MY BUNK BUDDIES TO GET HELP I HAD LOST CONSIOUSNESS AND I COULDN'T BREATH. I WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL IN AMBULANCE B/C MY AIRWAY WAS CLOSING OFF. FOR SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE MY LIPS HAD TURNED PURPLE, I HAD MOON FACE, ACNE WHICH I NEVER HAD, VISION PROBLEMS, SEVERE HEADACHES, FELLINGS OF BEING LOST OR OUT OF IT, EXTREME FATIGUE, AND THE BURNING RASH STILL HADN'T GONE AWAY, HAIR LOSS, THE WORSE THING EVER FOR AN ARMY RECRUIT IN TRANING WAS THE ADDED 40LBS , AND THE EXTREME JOINT PAIN WHICH I HAD TO LIVE WITH FOR 6 MONTHS. DURING MY PHYSICAL TEST AND TRAINING I CRIED LIKE A LITTLE GIRL WHO HAD HER FAVORITE DOLLIN TAKEN AWAY. BECAUSE OF THE PAIN. EACH DAY BECAME HARDER AND HARDER EMOTIONALLY(I WAS WANTING MY LIFE BACK MY DREAM OF BEING IN THE ARMY WAS SLOWLY DISAPATING ALL B/C OF A DRUG), PHYSICALLY( TOLD BY MY COMMAND SGT. MAJOR I WAS FAT AND WAS NOT GOING TO MAKE IT UNLESS THOSE ADDED LBS. CAME OFF) AND MENTALLY(BECOMING MANIC). I WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE HOSPITALINSTRUCTED TO ONLY TAKE 20MGS OF PREDNISONE A DAY. NEEDLESS TO SAY WITHOUT BEING TAPPERED OFF . I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOR 3 DAYS. ONLY OUT FOR 3 HOURS AND ALREADY HAVING ANOTHER INCIDENT. I WAS IN AND OUT OF CONSIOUSNESS AND REMEBER ALL OF MY SARGENTS TRYING TO HELP ME AGAIN FROM DYING A 2ND TIME. THIS TIME MY AIR WAY WAS COMPLETLY OBSTRUCTED AND NOT EVEN THE O2 MASK WAS HALPING THE AIR WAS PUSHING OUT THE SIDES OF THE MASK. WHEN THE AMBLUANCE ARRIVED THEY WANTED TO DO AN EMERGANCY TRACH. SO I COULD GET AIR.. i WOULDN'T LET THEM THAT LEAVES A HORRIBLE SCAR. i HAD ALREADY BEGAN PREPARING MYSELF FOR DEATH BECAUSE OF MY SITUATION AND HOW CLOSE I WAS WITH ALL MY SYMPTOMS. I KNOW NOT A VERY POSITIVE WAY OF THINKING BUT WITH THIS DRUG IT'S TO BE EXPECTED WITH THE IMPROPER USE OF IT LIKE MY CASE. I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FROM OCT TO DECEMBER. ONLY TO BE TREATED FOR MANIC DEPRESSION AND SEVRE OBISIETY. I WAS CURRENTLY ON THE PSHYCIATRIC WARD IN VIRGINIA AND I WAS A COUNTRY GIRL FROM DOOR COUNTY WISCONSIN WHAT I WAS SEEING WAS NOT GREAT AT ALL MY CAPTIN AND 1ST SGT. VISITED ME AND THEY BOTH AGREED THAT THIS WASN'T THE PLACE FOR ME. I STRONGLY AGREED WITH THEM. I WAS FINALLY DISCHARGED FROM THE HOSPITAL ONLY TO FIND MY SELF BEING DISCHARGED TOTALLY OUT OF THE ARMY...TALK ABOUT CRUSHED AT THIS POINT YA I DID FEEL LIKE I HAD NOTHING TO LIVE FOR MY DREAM OF BEING IN THE ARMY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE WAS GONE AND EVERYONE AT HOME WOULD LOOK AT ME AS A FAILURE AND NOT BEING ABLE TO HACK IT IN THE SERVICE. WHICH WAS NOT THE CASE AT ALL I LOVED IT. I'VE BEEN HOME KNOW FOR 7 YEARS I HAVE NO ARMY BENIFITS NO COMPENSATION AND MOST OF ALL NO FUTURE IN THE ARMY. AFTER 7 YEARS I STILL HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO LOSE ALL THE WEIGHT GAINED. I AM SICK ALL THE TIME KNOW B/C OF THE TOLL PREDNISONE DID ON ME. I HAVE HEART PROPLEM, VISION PROBLEM AND REPRODUCTIVE PROBLEM ALL WHICH HAPPENED AFTER PREDNISONE. I AM CURRENTLY GOING THROUGH MORE TEST. MY QUESTION IS I WAS ON PREDNISONE FOR 6 MONTHS BEINGING YO-YO'D UP AND DOWN....AND WITH ALL THE TEST GOING ON IS THEIR ANYTHING ELSE FOR ME TO EXPECT FROM THIS DRUG THAT HAS TAKEN EVERYTHING AWAY FROM ME... I LIKE TO TRY AND MOVE ON BUT NEW PROBLEMS KEEP ARISING THAT PREVENT ME.. OH AND ON A LEGAL ASPECTED IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE PLEASE HELP IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECHIATED.

THANKS
PREDNISONE TOOK EVERYTHING FROM ME AND 7 YEARS LATER IT'S STILL GOING ON..

I was prescribed Guaifen 600Mg tablets to help alleviate sinus and chest congestion. It seemed to help for the first day, but today at noon I literally thought I was going to die. I experienced severe dizziness to the point I had to hold my head up. I was ubable to stand or walk. My co-workers said all the color disappeared from my face and my hands, feet and arms felt as though I was standing an ice cold shower. My co-workers took my blood pressure and pulse and they were normal, It took at least 30 minutes before I could get up.
