I'm on aviane as well and during the summer i experience what looks like a heat rash when i'm out in the sun or in a tanning bed.. does anyone else get this? also i'm very moody, depressed sometimes, low sex drive, periods that last 2 days sometimes 3.. also i've notice that every since i've been taking aviane i'm always getting sick with sinus colds, and the flu? i would usually only get sick 1 to 2 times a year now this past year i've had strep throat twice, throwing up flu, at least 6 sinus colds..

I started taking singular daily for two years now. i was diagnosed with seasonal Asthma and allergies of course. I was always getting colds and such. Singular did helped with those symptoms however now that I accidentally or luckily came across this web site I'm able to answer some of my questions. I feel very anxious, and always need to be physically doing something, then suddenly I have no energy or just feel rotten mainly at the end of the day. Since I also take Zoloft again due to Pre-menopausal symptoms and PDST I kept thinking it was the second condition and never gave a though about Singular. Unfortunately many of my symptoms have been blamed to my menopause and have tried many different alternatives with no help. Being a nurse though, sometimes I tend to rationalize my symptoms and try not to look into things. Never the less, reading all this information it really puts me to think about Singular. something that i have noticed is also my feeling of aggression, and thought irrationality. Ho! my God! I'm so shocked about all of this. I will go of Singular and plan to have a long discussion with my doctor. I will keep you all informed of any changes.

My daughter received the vaccination when she was 17. She also had the meningitis and hep vaccinations with the 1st and 3rd doses. (I have since learned that multi-vaccinating is not recommended.) She developed pneumonia between the 1st and 2nd doses (could have been related or not) and then when she started school in the fall of '07, she continued to struggle with colds, etc. This could, obviously, be all college-related and just how it is in college. However, last week she told me that she got her period AGAIN - after only another two weeks. That was the 2nd month of periods every two weeks. She is also sick again (She was sent to the hospital with flu-like symptoms at Christmas-time). I started researching auto-immune disorders and found that her illnesses could be related to Gardasil. She was pretty healthy until she was vaccinated. She also complained last year of her hair falling out, but she has a thick head of hair and I told her to take her vitamins. Now I'm really concerned that the Gardasil could be causing some serious problems after reading all the posts. She has an appt. next week with an OB/GYN. Sounds like so many have had similar problems. I am so upset with myself for having thought the vaccine was a good idea. Please pass the word to your friends that this vaccine has not been fully tested. I don't believe it's safe.

4 yr. old son on Albuterol and Pulmicort for asthma triggered by allergies and colds. He is off of both during the summer, once he goes on the medication for the allergy season he experiences mood swings, violent tantrums, is confrontational, basically his personality changes. We have tried reducing the dose and cutting out one medication or the other with the same effect, the symptoms persist. We feel we have no choice because of the severe asthma attacks.

I am 37 with elevated BP. I started taking Lisinopril about ten days ago before bed every night. My kids have been sick with colds and I had also been ill with a cold a few weeks ago. My Dr. did tell me that I may develop a dry cough, but that I shouldn't worry about side effects. WHATEVER!!! I have felt like crap, flu-like symptoms and trouble breathing. I used to smoke and I feel like I have been on a smoking "bender." Then, this morning, my top lip was slightly swollen and peeling. I thought maybe one of the kids hit me with their heads (twin 13-month-old), but the swelling has gotten worse throughout the day and I look like a Botox-gone-wrong. And maybe it is the power of suggestion, but I have been feeling pretty down....

Hi Gang,
I have a problem of my own with bactrim, but I want to start this post by saying I am an emergency room physician assistant and I prescribe bactrim all the time due to a number of reasons - one, it does, according to state guidelines, cover MRSA (people misunderstand that MRSA is a PENICILLIN resistant staph - but USUALLY responds to bactrim, levaquin, or cipro (ciprofloxacin). And two, traditionally bactrim is the cheapest and I personally try my best to keep my patients costs down (I have 6 kids and even I cannot afford the $800 a month cost just for insurance so we put money in a health savings account and pay cash for everything - though we rarely go for just "colds" like so many do). But I developed a UTI which tend to be real bad in men as we do not get them as much as women do - this is due to the urinary tract and anatomy differences. Almost ALWAYS a UTI is from E. COLI 80-90% of the time - don't let that scare you as it is a normal digestive enzyme - but outside of the digestive tract or if exposed to an outside source like bad meat - it cause infection), why that matters is some antibiotics, like zithromax, do not cover that bacteria.
Well, to the point. I started on it for my UTI, normal dose, 2 times a day. I noticed I was having some weird dizziness and even slurred speech - no rash. I noted in this blog that people worry SO MUCH about the rash, but the rash is usually not any big deal. We see it, but unfortunately what we see scares us more than what may be going on silently inside of us!
So I have these symptoms and now I have a lump under my jaw that I can hardly open my mouth and still slurred speech. The Mrs thinks I am taking something else or who knows what, but I almost felt like a stroke. No headache, some nausea at times, but no rash. The jaw pain and I guess a left side neck pain are pretty intense today. I am stopping the bactrim and I promise I will be a bit more sensitive to others who I prescribe it to! I was looking for side effects and came across this blog.

I took Albuterol for my chest congestion. My daughter was given the prescription for pneumonia and slight asthmatic tendencies during colds.
OK, I thought if it was safe for a young child, it would be safe for me. After only one dosage (using a Nebulizer) I experienced tremors and heart palpitations. I had to stop because my heart was beating so fast! And it's 10 minutes later and I still have some tremors. According to the package, 20% of 135 patients in a clinical trial experienced tremors. That is a lot! Needless to say, I will not take it again. I question whether my daughter should, too.

A two days off of singulair my son started with a sore throat and headache that didn't go away for 5 days., three days after that started he ran a low grade fever for two days. I've read about others who had the same thing happen, so if your just getting off the singulair you may feel like your getting sick.

I have been taking Singulair for at least 10 years, most of which on a daily basis. I had severe stomach pains and nausea for a period of time, went through a lot of testing and other medications all of which did not help and was at times limited to eating saltines. I also experienced anxiety attacks and depression. The depression would be on and off for periods of time. I attempted suicide several times. Only within the past 3 years, 3 years in which I was not taking my Singulair regularly (limited the Singulair to a few days at a time when I had asthma attacks or respiratory colds), was I no longer suicidal. I am not blaming these symptoms on Singulair but it is no surprise to me if it was the cause, as it was the only medication I took daily in that time period.

Okay so I'm reading all of your postings and I about to totally flip out. My 6 yr old was diagnosed with a very mild case of asthma (an occasional cough that got worse with colds) when he was around 3. The doctor prescribed him Singular and I'm almost positive they started him at 5mg and now I'm reading that it's not recommend at that dose until 6yrs. He is very prone to severe mood swings....one minute screaming "I hate you!" and making commits like "I'll get a knife and kill myself!" to acting like there is nothing wrong and the previous outburst had never occurred. As a rule he is an extremely lovable kid but has these sudden outbursts. Having said this he has been off the medication since October with out any noticeable change. My concern is that if this medication has these types of side effects could it have long term or permanent effects on such young and still developing children. Has anyone else out there had their child off the meds for more than 6 months and not seen improvement in their behavior?

I put my then three year old son on Singulair because he was having chronic coughing in the winter months following colds. I was told it was a form of asthma and Singulair would help. It did immediately end the coughing, but I noticed an immediate effect on his mood. My once sweet son turned volatile and violent. Even biting and hitting me for the first time ever. I took him off the medication in a matter of a week or two and the violent behavior and crying fits ended within a few days and has never returned. I will never use that medication again. I urge others with children to avoid it.

my daughter has been on Singulair for 4 days now. She is 2 years old and has bad food allergies that cause very bad eczema. She also has been diagnosed with the start of asthma. After going to an allergist, we were told that she should try Singulair and Allegra for a couple of months to treat her seasonal allergies which have been causing coughing at night and skin break-outs, etc. A day or so after she took the medicine ( Singulair chewable tablets- I haven't started the Allegra yet, it seemed like too much for her to be on ) she has been having very loose stools, and quite a few throughout the day. Also she has hive- like bumps on her back. I stopped giving it to her the day before yesterday because the medicine was the only new thing she had been introduced too. The stools seemed to slow down and the hives seemed to be going away, but she was coughing bad last night, so I gave it to her again thinking maybe all she had was a stomach bug. But this morning we made countless potty stops and her back is bumpy again. Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm not sure if this is related to Singulair 5mg. chewable, but now that I've been reading everyone's experiences, I fear that it may. My 7 yr. old has been taking Singulair 5mg chewable tablets these past 2 years. He takes it during the months of Sept. to October. His pulmonologist has not determined whether or not he is an asthmatic or not. When he would get a common cold, he would almost always cough as if he had the croup and he would need to use a nebulizer with Pulmicort. The Singulair worked great. He hasn't needed the Pulmicort for almost a year now and colds this year were limited to two minor sniffles.
My son just started experiencing sharp pains on the left side of his chest. They would come quick and hard and disappear within 2-3 seconds. We immediately rushed him to the Emergency Room. He had experienced 5 quick episodes during Sunday, February 10th. The first 3 were spaced out about 20 minutes apart. the fourth was about an hour apart and the 5th and last occurred 2 hours after. The ER conducted a chest x-ray and an EKG, Neither showed any abnormalities. He felt a quick pain today, which is Tuesday. He has an appointment with a cardiologist on Wednesday morning. Now that I have read a number of postings, I am frightened. My son has not only experienced pains in his chest on the left side, but night sweats. occasional leg cramps. nightmares and is extra sensitive to emotional situations.
I'm pulling him off Singulair. Last night was his last dosage.

Hi. My eight year old daughter has been on singular for 6 months. She has had chronic stomach pains that she says feel like pressure. Her appetite is terrible. She always says she isn't hungry. I have to search for anything I think she will eat. She is very tall and very thin for her age. She grew an inch in the last year but gained no weight. First time her growth just stopped. No surprise as she doesn't want to eat. I took her to the doc several times and they think she has acid reflux and have given her 2 different acid eliminators ( which freak me out as well) Said she should see a gastroenterologist. We have appointment in March . I started reading this site and thought well maybe it's the singular. So I called her allergist and told them I was taking her off to see if that's why she has the stomach problems. They said I could since it wasn't a big trigger time(seasonal) and she wasn't sick with any cold or flu) She gets mild asthma when sick. Her allergist asthma doc thinks her stomach aches are related to the mucus dripping into her stomach. I have taken her off all meds to try to see if it could be the Singular. She also has been very tired and can't keep up in her dance classes. Her school teacher had to put her in the front of the class because she said she wasn't paying attention. She seems to lose it over anything that requires focus or attention. She also seems kind of depressed. She is worried that something is really wrong with her. This child used to eat normally and is gifted academically .Her tests results(taken while on the Singulair) went way down from last year. She was put in gifted pull out program from last year results but would have barley made it in this year based on her much lower scores. That does not make sense to me. Never has had attention or focus problems before. I will keep everyone posted. Does anyone know how long it might take to get this drug out of her system? Has anyone else had this kind of reaction to this drug? I also wonder whether she had reflux before but this made it worse? I had her blood tested for Celiac and general stuff and nothing showed up.I wanted to get the Singular out of her system before we see the G.I. doctor. anyway thanks, Elizabeth

I supposedly got a nasal bacterial infection two years ago. 4 months ago I was put on Nasonex even though the doctor still didn't know if my 'infection' was bacterial (tried several antibiotics kept coming back) or fungal, or viral.
The first six weeks I got colds for the 1st time. Hey! the Nasonex was smell free. Went to see doc after 6weeks. Ran out of Nasonex. Was prescribed more only to get the Spanish version Nasomet. Just a different brand name I was told. It had an awful light nail polish smell...like acetone. Since using it at the prescribed lower dose my nose is bleeding and clotting and hardening or the nostrils. Burning, whistling smaller nasal passages.
When I had the original infection a had a week of sinus infection headache. Now I ger persistent creeping sinus headache...not a full one. ut it never seems to go away. I'm now scared of Nasomet/Nasonex and want to come off it.

Thank you for this site and all who posted! My daughter at 6 years was put on 4 mg of singulair for the later half of the winter last year for preventative measures after repeated visits to the doctors for bad colds and coughs resulting in wheezing. They told me she had "cold induced asthma." My daughter has had no previous asthma or history of, any history of trouble breathing etc. I can honestly say looking back that I didn't notice any glaring difference in her personality last year. I didn't like the idea of putting her on a daily med but I trusted the doc and asthma specialist and was told I could take her off in the spring 07 when the "cold season was over and most threats had passed. This year, at age 7, I was told to start Singulair again a week before school started in August 07 as a prevention med for the upcoming germ/cold school year. The dosage was increased to 5 mg due to her age. Note, she is a tiny, petite girl with not a huge amount of weight gain from prev. year. Let me tell you, September and the begining of October while on this med, my daughter was extremely irritable, down right nasty at times, crying very easily, tantrums, lacked a desire to do her homework and not very focused. In short, this was NOT my daughter. I didn't recognize her and it scared me. I like others who've posted, would try to blame her behavior on outside events or troubles. Anything to try to understand what was going on and explain her behavior. Sadly at first, Singulair didn't occur to me so I just kept battling with her to the point of almost asking for psych. help. Thank goodness I didn't! It was like a light bulb went off in my head as I was about to hand her her singulair one night. I went to the internet, read these posts and saw some of the exact same things being quoted. Coincidence? I think not! I stopped giving her the Singulair it's been 2 weeks now and the results are so dramatic and obvious to me. I had my daughter back! I, like a lot of you was told it was safe! My pharmacist told me that while there were studies on adults with a small % reporting agitation, there have been no studies in children. I find that amazing considering so may children are prescribed it. Last note - report your symptoms to your doctor, even if they don't agree with your findings. It may eventually help others in the future if enough of us report. Thanks to all of you and good luck.

OK now I'm really scared and I'm actually going to see if I can go to an ENT. I looked around and apparently oral contraceptives are known to be ototoxic which means they can permanently damage your inner ear and cause ringing, hearing loss, and vertigo. I'm really worried now. You'd think they would tell people about this!! Even if it's not common, it's very serious and potentially devastating and they should tell people before they take it. Now I'm going to be very worried waiting for it to go away.... I'll keep you posted on what the doctor says...

Ok, I took this because I needed to feel better fast for a weekend with all my guy friends. I am a single girl and I was actually HOPING to come out of this weekend with a boyfriend outta one of 'em...so I wanted to be over my yucky cold/flu symptoms so I could have a good time! Ok...I was NOT feeling well after the third day, my stomach was killlllling me, and I wasn't over my cold stuff either. So by the weekend I was finally feeling a little better but I had started having diarrhea and (even worse!) TERRIBLE GAS. I should have just stayed home, but I went on this roadtrip anyway. I was thinking I would be able to hold it until we stopped, but I started having terrible gas buildup and I just had to release it or I thought I would get sick. Ok, let me just say that we had to pull the jeep over so one of my friends, the really cute one that I liked, could throw up. It was terrible....and even worse they all knew it was me. In my opinion, the slight relief I got from my cold was not worth the tradeoff in side effect. So thanks to my Z pak experience, I was called "Hell Raiser" and other nicknames the rest of the weekend. I will not be using this product again.

I've been taking doxycycline for a few days now. The first few days i felt dizzy, and I had shortness of breath and a heavy chest, the next day I vomitted, and had sharp pains in my stomach. I realized it was because I didn't take it with food, now I take it after a few bites of a meal and basically try to cover the pill with food and liquid so it doesnt upset my stomach and its working...but I'm surprised this antibiotic is has so many side effects..I also have chronic headaches and advil doesn't work at all. I advise anyone taking this medication to eat it with your food or shortly after, especially in the morning.
It seems to be clearing up my bladder infection though, I couldn't take two medications at once so I took this one for a bacterial infection, and I think its killing 2 birds with one stone.

Hey Hill! So nice to hear from you again! :) And especially to hear, that you're feeling back to normal finally! I feel so happy for every one of us, who can say this after that nightmare...
Well, I'm feeling very down again at the moment. Since my period finally had arrived again in August 2006 (1,5 after stopping Yasmin!!!!...) I've been feeling worse and worse each month again. Two very bad colds in Oct/Nov 2006 also made it worse... It's not as bad as it was whilst taking Yasmin in 2004 and I so much hope, that it won't get that bad again...
I don't know 100% why this is happening again to me but there seems to be much more wrong as I thought and all the docs believed. In my family are already 4 stories of thyroid problems, so it might be, that I've been and still am also suffering from such problems without having known the last years... As I know now I never should have started any bcp, because that makes thyroid problems only much bigger... And Yasmin seems to have totally brought everything out of whack in my body with that diuretic and all that other "new wonderful stuff" in it...
So that's not very good news but I'm working on it and hoping to find a solution in the next few months. I've been given some thyroid hormones but I'm a bit afraid to take them (everybody who took Yasmin knows why...). I'm so done with going through another nighmare as 2 years ago...
But seeing that finally more and more women, that I had met 1 or 2 years ago here, come back to this forum and tell us, they're back to normal. This gives so much hope to all of us!! So thank you Hill for letting us know these great news!!
I wish you all the best for your future and your "new life"!! :)
hugs,
Silke

I feel sick and tired. I had a bit of a cough before I started Lisinopril because I had smoked for about a month and quit. The cough got steadily worse. Now I have a very productive cough and runny nose and I feel like my immune system has been weakened by taking the med. I don't usually get colds. I also have swollen lymph nodes behind my ear.
I take Lisinopril in the morning and by noon it feels like time to go to bed. In some ways I feel better, not as stressed and speeded up as I have been feeling, but the cough, if it doesn't get better is not tolerable. It has helped my blood pressure some, but one day about a week after I started to take it my blood pressure was higher than it had ever been (178 over 107) and I got two irregular heart beat readings. I slept almost the entire weekend and went to work today coughing and nose running. By evening I was exhausted. Will not go to work tomorrow. Left work one afternoon during the Christmas season just past just feeling exhausted. Sick and tired.
