I have always been thin -- not waif-like, but proportional and around a size 8. I never had a six-pack, but did have a flat stomach and good core muscles. The other consistency about my health was that a little extra exercise usually produced quick gains in strength and stamina. Not so much now. Keep in mind that I'm a runner and eat fairly well...
I had my Mirena placed on the day that I finished a 6K -- in May 08. (Literally went home to shower, took a PB&J sandwich to snack on during the procedure lol, and went to the clinic.) It's June 09 and I'm having it removed tomorrow. I've had the weight gain, very oily hair, and I don't care what the doctors say: I can feel that little sucker! My stomach has been bloated-looking for a year. Yet, ANY time I do any sort of ab workout (i.e. a few crunches) I have cramping for the rest of the day. I've gone up a size or two and none of the pants I wore last year fit me. I've had my thyroid checked to make sure it's not burning out... I've second-guessed everything except the Mirena.
I've had back pain, but it's upper not lower... so that's probably unrelated. I was being treated successfully for depression prior to my Mirena being placed... although I have had to up my dosage within the last 6 months. My periods did go away about 6 months in, but if I do strenuous ab activity (like I did on Friday) within a few days I will have bleeding. Like today ;) So, the advantage of fewer periods... not an advantage if you can't even predict the week you will be bleeding!

I was just prescribed a 5-day course of Zithromax Z-Pak for Strep throat. Within hours, my throat started feeling better. Within 24 hours I was back on my feet;however, I was left with a terrible side effect --- silivia the consistency of foam --- yuck!!!!! The only relief I get from this is when I sleep. Hope it disappears after I finish the course - in 3 days. The last time I experienced this foam like saliva was during my 4 pregnancies. I know for a fact I'm not pregnant again. Has anyone experienced this problem after taking Z-Pak? If so, how did you get relief? Did it disappear after you finished the course?

Responding to a couple of posts: Low energy and leg cramps are signs of low iron, you might be anemic, ask your doctor to have your iron checked at your next blood test. Also, ask about taking a multi-vitamin, all of the literature about Warfarin mentions not taking vitamins but it’s more about consistency. I’ve been taking a multi-vitamin daily - with my doctor’s permission - and I’ve had very consistent PT’s and INR’s. I’ve been on 7.5 mgs of Warfarin daily for six months and am holding steady. It is very important to take it every day if you do take a vitamin, it’s important to be consistent.
And about the socks, they are called compression stockings and can be prescribed by your doctor, or some are also available at drug stores, ask a pharmacist at the store.
And also about headaches, it helps me if I stay hydrated. When I don’t drink enough water I tend to get headaches.
I’m back to exercising at my pre-pulmonary embolism rate, it took me six months to get there, and I started slow, but my body has gradually responded. I’m 52 and was pretty healthy before I got sick. Just keep at it, you’ll see results (and feel better too!).

I've posted on here earlier but now I decided to stop taking Loestrin 24fe since I felt I hadn't been taking them correctly last month and could be pregnant. (Not taking them at correct times & doubling up in week 1)
I hadn't found much on the net where other women weren't sure if their symptoms were because they went off birth control or really where pregnant with this particular pill (lots of info on other pills though) I believe now since I took them at different times I caused an hormonal imbalance before I even stopped the pill. So I'll be the guinea pig in case other women are feeling like me.
Symptoms when I took them incorrectly were excessive saliva, sore/shooting pain in breast, back pain, cramping, bloating, headaches, HEAVY fatigue, appetite changes, heavy white or clear discharge, dry hair & skin, and VERY emotional. (like a month of PMS, very b!tchy lol ) Then I had a sweet smelling clear discharge which made me think pregnancy or UTI. (Diabetes not a factor, I know for sure) It was the day before expected period (placebo pill) and a couple times more when I discontinued them.
NOTE: when I took them perfectly in Jan, I had NO period. Confusing but I had no sex so I knew it was my impeccable consistency with taking the pill.
I had one brown spot on Fri. (never happened) and a patch of pink/reddish blood on Sat. (similar to what I am used to on this pill) I stopped taking them on the last placebo pills. (not that it would have harmed the pregnancy if I was with child, but I just wanted to know! I wouldn't mind the "surprise") That Sunday began a headache that I can only try to describe... It was a "burning headache" I looked this up and it's not really well known. My face felt like it was hot with a burning/tingling sensation & pressure! I could've sworn I had a fever but the lovely nurse said my temp was normal and I needed to go to ER ( I think she thought I was crazy?) Any who it was around my face and neck and sometimes a migraine or sinus headache would jump in. Since I thought I was preggo I didn't want to take meds that I had (no Tylenol at that moment) All I had was Midol. I felt so bad I gave in and took it. It relieved my symptoms immediately. The "burning headache" came when I woke up everyday for about 4 days. Then lesser headaches and I bought Tylenol for them. Long story short because of the imbalance (I charted these symptoms) I had intense back pain, SORE nipples, yeast infection, frequent urination (due to yeast infection, it kind of lessened up once I treated it) actually I believe I have a systematic yeast infection because it was on my tongue (going to DR to diagnose this, it causes A LOT of symptoms I've always had) night sweats, heart palpitations, oily face, still emotional, indigestion, dizzy, vivid dreams (crazy symptom I know but hormonal imbalance can do anything to the female body) Idk which could be mainly cause of imbalance... just saying this is not my "norm" (hence the further thought that I was preggo)
I've bought preg test (neg), UTI test (neg), yeast infection meds but I will go to the DR to get checked out. (I'm currently not able to go) My period is due in a week (I'm a very regular person, when i came off Jolessa, generic Seasonale, I had 3 months of 28 day cycles until I started Loestrin for 7 months) Hopefully this will be the same. Don't know which BC I'll try next but Loestrin isn't that bad if you take it correctly! (I did have nausea EVERY month whether I took it correctly or not... read previous post) I take prenatal vitamins now (Idk I think I read somewhere any vitamin/mineral helps with withdrawal symptoms? Nonetheless they're good for you) I believe I might have already ovulated (cramping, CM changes) so to the women who want to know how soon they might return to "norm" cycle, low dose BC might not be so bad if you want to jump back into cycles? (Still waiting on period so don't quote me. Or as with some you can do one w/o the other. ie, period, but not ovulate. vice versa.)
Sorry so long but I hope this helps anyone who was frantically searching the net for answers! I will update once this is over...

I am thinking of calling my doctor today to schedule an appointment to have my Mirena IUD removed. I had it inserted about 1 year ago. In August of 2008 I turned 37. My original thought was I was getting older and although I had been in perfect health up to this point, I figured my age was catching up to me. Now I am starting to think differently. Here's my story:
The day of my birthday party an overwhelming wave of vertigo swept over me and I ended up on the floor (and no, I wasn't drinking, it was a family party!). I was so dizzy and so sick I had to go straight to bed. I went to the doctor the next Monday and saw the PA. She thought I had an inner ear imbalance and gave me some Meclizine for the dizziness. That wave of dizziness ended before I had to take the medication but I held on to it in case I needed it in the future.
End of August nagging pain in my foot sent me to the doctor's office again. I had been ignoring it because I had no injury to my foot. Come to find out my foot was broken and I had a severe Vitamin D deficiency. I have no idea if this is related to the Mirena but I am adding it in for the consistency of my story.
Since my Mirena I have also had to get new glasses. My contacts drive me nuts and I can't seem to see out of them. This also happened when I was pregnant and my doctor told me it was the hormones from pregnancy causing the visual changes. I think this time it's the hormones in the Mirena causing me to walk around like Mr Magoo when I am wearing my contacts.
My brain is in a fog. I can't think clearly. As soon as I see a bed or a couch I am planted. I have no desire to do anything. If I could stay in bed all day I would. I really have no idea how I manage to get out of bed each morning and me a productive member of society. I am on Zoloft for depression. I have had to have my dose increased due to it not being as effective as it was when I first when on it. I have no patience when it comes to my kids and that kills me. I don't want to be a grumpy mom.
I have headaches everyday. Throbbing headaches where I swear I can feel the blood vessels in my brain pulse. Somedays it feels like I am about to have an anorysm. Other days my headache is confined to behind my eyes and I was contributing that to my contacts and vision changes.
This past month I have been to the doctor due to horrid jaw pain. My jaw actually locked up on me and I couldn't open my mouth. I have been fitted with a mouth guard for sleeping and was given a prescription for a muscle relaxer to help me not clench when I sleep.
And again this weekend greated me with the horrible experience of vertigo. I was grocery shopping last night and thought I was going to pass out in the middle of the frozen food aisle. My dizziness didn't go away with sleep. I woke up at 2am this morning still dizzy and unable to fall back asleep. I am trying not to move my head or my body for that matter too much today. The medication was brought out of the cabinet and I took one last night and one this morning. It isn't helping very much.
So, between the anti-depressant, the muscle relaxer, the dizziness medicine, and the constant supply of Advil I am consuming I am thinking now is the time to call my doctor. It was until my sister mentioned that all my problems seemed to have started when I got this monster implanted that I realized that yes, this was true. I want my health back. I want to enjoy my kids again.

I've been reading about Mirena for months and seen that everyone is having the same side effects. I gained about 30 lbs. I got cystic acne along with oily skin with this flakey layer on top. Instead of gaining weight evenly it seems to have started collecting in different areas. I've gone from being a size 2, to having a spare tire. It also gave me mass amounts of cellulite compared to what used to be there. Especially on my legs and butt. It seems to have thinned my skin and hair. Constant bloating, infections and terrible odors, loss of sex drive, UTIs and bladder infections for the first time and a few in a row, etc.
Well after trying so long to get someone to take it out without insurance, I found a post from a girl who took hers out herself. She said she squatted down, grabbed the strings with two fingers and gently pulled it out. I read that 5 minutes ago and mine is OUT. I ran to the bathroom, I was so excited!! washed my hands and did the same things she described and it's finally gone. GIRLS, DO IT NOW! It's easy and painless and maybe we can get back to normal. I've tried every diet, every cream, every face wash.... I work at Sephora and I use great products on my skin... and none of it has been able to do a bit of good. You're not paranoid, it's the Mirena. When I pulled it out it actually had a mucus plug on it... And I read that one of the ways it works is to change the chemistry of your vaginal discharge. Anyone else notice a creamier almost chalky consistency? I think anything that stops your periods for so long, and does so many different things to the way your body works, all at once, has to be terrible for you. It's bad news. I'd rather have another baby than put my body through this again. I feel like it aged me in body and mind. Please don't be scared, go take it out.
And everyone who does, or gets it taken out should update the rest of us on any positive or negative changes. I will post regularly and anyone feel free to ask questions or tell me about your experiences... Let us know if you find a birth control method that doesn't have life altering side-effects.

I know I just posted a really long post but I also have a question. Warning the question is kinda nasty and personal. To any reading that is willing to answer: When I get my period now (since I've started the pill) I don't bleed regularly. The only way I can describe it now is the blood looks like Old blood and to me it is just disgusting. I was wondering if anyone else had had this issue....?

I'm a 22 year old newlywed and Yaz has been a nightmare. I was on Diane when I was 16 for a year for cysts on my ovaries, and after my period became regular I stopped it... Cysts came back at 19, took Yasmin, and cleared up again, it also helped with my acne. I wanted to get back on the pill for birth control purposes before my wedding, so I started September 2008. The wedding was in December 08, and about a month later, the side effects started to show up. My eyesight (previously 20/20) had gone back 2 points. I was always very slim, but I immediately noticed my bloating, and by the third month, I had gained 15 pounds. I became a miserable mess, irrationally emotional and anxious. But the major side effect of this poison as I like to call it was something that affected my marriage. Before the pill it'd be very very easy for me to get aroused/wet/in the mood/. Now I am dry, no amount of foreplay will get me wet, and this has lead to bigger repercussions. Due to the dryness, there was of course a sharp pain with intercourse. After trying for so long, and growing more frustrated, I developed a condition called vaginismus, where the vaginal muscles involuntarily clench up and become tense right before intercourse. No amount of trying and coaxing and trying to relax will help, this has become another condition altogether that needs treatment and therapy. I was becoming more and more emotional due to the buildup of these side effects. and geting even more frustrated by my doctors telling me its the 'best pill around'. I decided to stop the pill on my own cold turkey. I was on Yaz from Sept 08 till July 09 and I'm slowly getting my old self back. Its a process that takes time, but this was the best decision I've made. Nobody deserves this kind of distress over a stupid pill. As others mentioned, my period was a lot lighter but with a different and dark, sludgy consistency on the pill. I'm about to start my second natural period off of Yaz and I don't care that my periods are heavier and more natural now, with PMS discomfort. I'd rather live with that than unnatural hormones that almost ruined my life.
DON'T TAKE THIS PILL!!!!

I was on SSRI's for a while (lexapro, zoloft) when I finally couldn't take the tiredness, weight consistency, and NO sex drive. So I tried Wellbutrin SR 150 2x a day. Started off at 150 for a few days and felt like I was given a new life! I had never felt so good. Then it was time to increase my does to the 300mg. I started getting headaches, dizziness, my ears are ringing so bad I can't hear very well anymore. So I went back down to 150mg per day. I don't feel as tired, but it's still there. The ringing won't go away and I am still dizzy. The funny thing is, is that I can almost guarantee it's the same time everyday. I get the dizziness and headaches around 3pm, they go away(most of the time I have to lay down) and by about 5pm they're gone, but by about 10pm they're back. And it happens every day like clockwork. I like the way I feel (minus the headaches and dizziness, and ringing) my brain doesn't feel "numb" like I did on the Zoloft or Lexapro, and I have lost a few pounds which doesn't hurt, but I don't think I should feel like this everyday. I want a medication that I can feel good on without headaches and dizziness. And PLEASE no ringing in the ears. It's good to know that other people are experiencing these side effects, I really thought I was the only one.

After never having asthma in my life I was put on Advair 100/50 at 34 ...
I have been on it for a little over a year but I have been reading these side effects and wanted to try and ween myself off this stuff. I cut back to 1 per day then 1 every other day and now I am down to 1 per week. Hopefully I am going to be off it soon. The side effects are real with the weight problems people are having with this stuff .... My question is does anyone else have the feeling in their throat like there is an obstruction or a lump? or like something is stuck in the back of their throat?? Does this go away ?
I rinsed my mouth and brushed my teeth after every use .... so I am not sure if this will go away with lower use or not

I just started my second months on Yaz. My doctor prescribed it due to ovarian cysts. I have not used BCP for almost 10 years. I have now had my period for 8 days. Prior to Yaz I had a period for about 3-4 days, heavy with some bad cramps but then it was over. This is light bleeding but the consistency is like paste and it seems non-stop and its just a pain in the butt. Its effecting my sex life.
On the upside - milder cramps, PMS week was better, less tender breasts, less water retention. So far my sex drive is undiminished. If that is effected, I'll stop taking them. The pharmaceutical companies can go push rope. 10 years ago my doctor swore my decreased libido was all in my head. I quit the BCP and guess what? I was like a kid again. Yes, BCPs are convenient but not at the cost of enjoying sex.

Hello folks - thought I would post here as well.........I am on 20MG of LISINOPRIL 1 time daily. I notice during regimented times of the day I get the side effects. I take it when I wake up in the morning. I have been on this for about a year now...........it has lowered by HBP from 150's/80's to about 130/80..............regular........I am a 37 year old Male
Problem is the multiple side affects:
1. Tiredness - comes and goes all throughout the day - almost like I could just close my eyes and go to sleep anywhere.........feels like someone threw sand in my eyes.......
2. Shortness of breath
3. Sore Muscles - everywhere - it doesn't discriminate!!!!
4. Pain in the chest mostly the left side but sometimes the right
5. Headache in one spot in the head - doesn't last long
6. Wake up often in the middle of the night with dead hands or legs
7. Sometimes I just have a total memory blank on things I should know right away - usually only occurs when I'm getting tired.
8 Of course the panic from thinking something is wrong with me!!!
Anyone else with these set of symptoms????
Drop me a note!!!!

I found this site while searching for "tired, achy, bloated, weight gain" on Google. I'm wondering if this is what is going on with me. I have been on NR for about 8 months now and lately I have been so tired that I fall asleep when I get home from work, and I can't do more than a couple of hours of errands, etc, before I am worn out. I am a photographer and after I do a wedding I ache so bad and am so exhausted that I can barely move the next day. I have also experienced increased discharge. My first few periods on NR were heavy, but just last month it was barely enough to use anything. I have no idea what is going on but would like some consistency.

I'm into my 8th pack of Loestrin 24 Fe and I'm ready to get off of them. Major issue is no sex drive and spotting right before period is supposed to start. So its like I have a really long period anyways. I've been on these pills for more than half of a year and there has been no change in my periods (no shorter periods or lighter periods) :-( And the website says "shorter periods less than 3 days by cycle 6". So its like I'm paying $50 for a "regular pill"anyways. Oh and my boobs hurt like all the time!!! I'm thru with it!!! Does anyone have a recommendation of a pill I can ask my doctor about next month??

I was really disheartened to see so many people having bad side effects with their Pill. I have been on Yasmin for 2 years and have not had any really bad side effects. I had a loss of appetite at first, but I didn't mind it too much as I needed to lose weight, but after a few months, my appetite came back. I never had an issue with my sex drive, never had any mood swings, or any of the other issues that some of you are having. One consistency I did notice was that women with the worse side effects were taking Yaz, the low hormonal version of Yasmin.
Also ladies, keep in mind that a lot of the side effects listed by the company as well as the ones you have experienced are common with many other BCP's. Hell, I took ortho try cyclen and the most horrible experience. And let's not talk about the many women who took Ortho Evra, which just came out recently. There is now a lawsuit against the company who produced it because of the side effects.
Everyone reacts differently to different medications and to different pills. There are many women who have had nothing but wonderful experiences, others have had horrible experiences. But again, it is like that with every pill.

I was taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen successfully for 8 years, but my periods begain starting earlier and getting longer the last few months, so my doctor recommended Yasmin. Now I have practically all of the aforementioned side effects: breast tenderness, depression, irritability, trouble sleeping and needing too much sleep, increase in appetite (am craving meat ALL the time) and thirst, different bowel consistency, embarrassing and relentless acne, and a definite decrease in sex drive. The latter is the most troubling because there's obviously no point in taking BCP if you don't want to have sex. Just good to know that I'm not the only one experiencing these problems. This is my first month, though. I don't know how long I'll give it, but from the looks of the other posts, the chances of things getting better are slim.

I had the Mirena put in July 3rd 08 at my 6 week check up after I had my second child. I did not have much pain during insertion. However now (about a year later) is a different story. I am glad that I found this page, and I am not alone. I have the common side effects that others list on here like weight gain, mood swings, irregular periods that are different consistency (clots, stringing, heavy flow, light flow), extreme fatigue but unable to sleep, lack of interest in normal activities, and breast tenderness. I know I expected the mood swings, weight gain (but did not think it would be the 18lbs i gained while i was eating healthy and working out) and cramping for a few months after insertion. However the past 2 months I have had a lot of pain in my pelvis. Cramping is not the right word for it, it feels like pressure on my pelvis. Like someone is standing on what feels like my ovary. This is also with the occasional flutter in my stomach that feels like a baby kicking. I have gotten what I believe is my period and took a pregnancy test that was negative. The pain is mainly on the right side which goes around to my hip and sometimes up to my shoulder. It has now turned into a stabbing pain in my lower middle abdomen (this is all with no other bleeding other than my 3 day period). I am calling to doctor tomorrow to get myself checked out. I feel the strings in the same place I always have but the pain is something I can no longer take. I am not sure that this is worth it anymore, I think its time to talk to the husband about a vasectomy!
