I had the Mirena inserted when my daughter was 6 weeks old, August 2007. I had no problems (that I THOUGHT were related to it) until end of July this year. I had next to no period up until then and then bled for nearly 3 weeks straight. Went to the doctor who said I had a miscarriage...ok so let's take it out, it obviously doesn't work for me and go back to the pill which I had been on most of my life when I wasn't pregnant with any of my 5 children. After 3 weeks of being on the pill I had it removed on 9/10. No pain at all actually but haven't stopped bleeding since! Went back to the Dr on 9/23, felt my uterus and said seemed fine. No fibroids or polyps that he could feel. Changed my pill Rx and said it should straighten out within the next 2 cycles, if not come back...on 10/5 I went back without an appt and was told by the nurse to double up on my pills to try and stop the bleeding. I scheduled an appt to see the Dr the following am. Had an internal ultrasound done and a biopsy of the lining of my uterus. Results should be back on Tuesday... my Mom & Sister told me to look online about side effects with the Mirena and I found this page. I am comparing many of the things I have been experiencing and now realize perhaps they were ALL related to the IUD. I gained weight (am actually heavier then I was after my daughter was born and I lost all my pregnancy weight within the first month), I had terrible acne, headaches, back & neck pain, constant fatigue, emotional, decreased sex drive. It has been out 4 weeks today and although my acne has improved slightly, I feel like I have been on the brink of the flu since last Saturday, no motivation, pure exhaustion, and emotional roller coaster not to mention the cramping from my biopsy that probably wasn't necessary now I'm thinking and 4 days in a row home from work... I am hoping time will heal the way I feel once the hormones adjust themselves. The pill always helped me more then it ever hurt me. I'm glad I got the Mirena out as soon as I did. Just wish I would have known sooner what it was really doing to me!

Mirena is a horrible thing to have inserted inside of your precious uterus! I just had it removed today after 6 months, and I am so much better just in the first few hours! I have to say the constant fatigue hasn't even budged, I am hoping I feel better soon. I constantly had pain in my lower abdomen ever since it was put in. I kept calling the doctor and they said that it would go away, and it did for short periods, then it would return! God forbid I have sex because I would be sitting there in pain for the whole night and next morning, more then normal. I actually got used to the constant pain I was having so to the point that I feel like I just was given a new uterus! I have been eating so healthy lately and my weight hasn't even budged, which I thought was from my body changing after having a baby! I am so happy to find out that isn't true! I am only 22 and I don't deserve to be in pain every *** day!!! I can't tell you how bad I think the Mirena was for my body and I won't be surprised if there is a class action law suit coming soon! I only hope it didn't puncture something! It sure felt like it. When I went to the doctor she tried telling me that the pain was me ovulating!!! HELLO I have a child!!! I have ovulated and it didn't hurt like this!!! Also when I first had it inserted I almost lost my milk for my 2 mo. old!!! I worked and worked to keep it---heads up! IF YOU FEEL LIKE THIS FOREIGN THING IN YOUR BODY HURTS AND IT SHOULDN'T BE THERE, REMOVE IT SOMETHING IS PROBABLY WRONG!!! DON'T LET YOUR DR TELL YOU IT'S NORMAL! 6 MOS LATER AND MY PAIN DIDN'T GO AWAY!

Hi,
Back in May of 2008 my it was alleged by doctors that my mother needed to have her gallbladder removed. During the surgery, she was given Diprivan 200MG AMP, and Fentanyl 5ML vial. Since the surgery, she is yet to recover. After seeing many local doctors and surgeons, we decided to go to UNC Chapel Hill, where the doctors there cannot even tell her what is wrong. She has since (the surgery) also developed C-diff. She has had her medical records released an I'm trying to take this into my own hands as I'm tired of seeing her literally get sicker and sicker. Here's my question: Is it possible for these side effects to last over this long period of time, from just having a 5 ML vial of Fentanyl? The reason I ask is because every above listed symptom that people have had after using the medication, is what she goes through on a daily basis. Here is a small list of her daily symptoms: flue like symptoms, hot flashes, constant fatigue, sometimes diarrhea, sometimes vomiting, slurring of some words, disfunction in her language ability -- sometimes she cannot read a sentence clear on her first attempt. EXTREME short term memory loss, physical instability, as well as weakness in her body. I've researched side effects of this medication and those are all listed, and I've seen more lists above. Is it possible for her to be having long-term adverse side effects from this medication? Is it possible for her C-diff to be related to the medication? If anyone could help with anything I could greatly appreciate it. While this is risky, I'm going to put my personal email because I just need immediate help and advice from anyone, and I check my email ample amounts of time throughout the day. So, please email me if you have any suggestions. ******

This site makes for very interesting reading, I guess anyone who's got this far will now have an idea that Omeprazole whilst being an effective treatment for some gastric problems can have some quite severe side effects.
I was prescribed this drug after a stomach bleed (caused by use of NSAIDs for back pain) and whilst it seemed to help clear up the condition the side effects have been quite severe.
Around January i was put on this medication and experienced fatigue, muscle cramps, swollen legs and dizziness for the two months i was on it, it wasn't until i had a recurrence of the bleeding in May and started to take Omeprazole again that I noticed that the side effects had returned, feeling pretty crappy i went back to the doctor and was told to double up the dose, this made me feel twice as bad, heart palpitations, dizziness, constant fatigue, muscle cramps and kind of anxious and depressed (although i put these last two symptoms down to my inability to get to grips with my bad physical health)
After reading the comments posted here I haven't take Omeprazole for four days now and already the symptoms have all but disappeared, I feel as if a weight has been lifted off my body and my mind, my energy is starting to return and I am sure that I have spent the last month suffering because of this drug. If i have a recurrence of the original condition i will seek alternative treatment, Omeprazole made my tummy better but at too high a price for me to ever consider taking it again.

I have had the mirena for about 2 1/2 years. I have been miserable with it since about the second month. My husband and I decided we weren't ready for another baby yet so we dealt with it. I feel depressed when I get my period which is about every two weeks as well as constant fatigue. It has even gotten to the point where we don't have sex because I am constantly having mood swings and no longer have any desire for sex. We are only 20 and 22 years old. I called my dr. this morning to get this thing removed ASAP. When speaking to her in the past she did not find any relation to my symptoms and the iud. I feel bad for anyone experiencing the same things as me. I have had enough and am going to try a new method of birth control.

DIDN'T WORK AT ALL & HAD BAD SIDE EFFECTS! This didn't help my severe 'painful red bumps' kind of acne. In January 08 the dermatologist put me on solodyn 1x daily, Rosaderm face wash, & Atralin topical gel, both 2x daily. Eventually she switched me from atralin to RetinA, b/c the atralin wasn't strong enough. I have many health problems, but the last few years I have been feeling absolutely awful- constant body & joint aches, constant fatigue, & mood swings due to the pain. It got so much worse in Jan 08. My doctor & I had been talking fibro for a long time, but she diagnosed me in early March 08. She suspected fibro, as well as an autoimmune disease (when your body attacks your own tissues by mistake) due to a massively high ANA (anti-nuclear antibody) count on a blood test, so she referred me to a pediatric rheumatologist (there aren't many) b/c I was under 21 at the time. The rheumatologist diagnosed me with myofascial pain, which is very similar to fibro. She explained, "It's the exact same pain as fibromyalgia, except it moves all around instead of staying in certain points." Then she told me something shocking: SOLODYN CAN CREATE CONSTANT FATIGUE, BODY PAIN, AND OTHER FIBROMYALGIA-LIKE SYMPTOMS!!! IT ALSO MAKES A PERSONS ANA COUNT SOAR, WHICH CAN BE SEEN IN BLOOD TESTS!!! So she told me to go off the Solodyn right away, which I did gladly because it had been weeks & it hadn't helped my acne. She told me to watch for changes in my myofascial pain/fibro symptoms. After about 1 week my muscle & joint aches started to lessen. Obviously the Solodyn had increased this pain. The weird thing is, after about 3 days after stopping Solodyn, my acne improved. It was almost like Solodyn was preventing my acne from going away! When the results from my next blood test came back, my ANA (anti nuclear antibody) count had dropped but it was still high, indicating an autoimmune disease. It appeared Solodyn had raised my ANA count to a level even higher then it normally was!! It turned out I did have an autoimmune disease, but my rheumatologist told me she's seen teens who take Solodyn & have an elevated ANA count b/c of it. Then they have to run hundreds of tests b/c they think they have some disease that they actually don't have. When they stop taking Solodyn, their blood tests normalize, & then it proves don't really have an autoimmune disease. But by that time they've gone thru dozens of unnecessary tests, not to mention the stress & worry of thinking they might have a disease that may potentially be life threatening. They wasted time, money, and sleepless nights, all because solodyn screwed up their blood tests!!

My experience with NuvaRing
I started NuvaRing when I was 40 years old and got married not to long ago. I have two kids and they are in there late teens. My new husband does not want to have any kids, so I've been on NuvaRing for two years because I was always really bad about remembering to take the pill so the NuvaRing is GREAT for me and I love it!!! It's very convenient, being able to just forget about birth control for a month. But for some reason I think that I got a hold of a bad batch and I am having problem with them. If you have experienced the following symptoms, please consult with your doctor:
Depression: because I thought that I was pregnant, so I hit an extreme low.
The first time I used the ring I had itching, discharge, burning and yeast infection.
Headaches, Mood swings, bloating, gas, cramps, emotional, pelvis pain, hair loss, my vision has change, constant fatigue and lack of motivation and I have gained about 20 pounds. I get headaches all the time. I'm CONSTANTLY tired, but I do have to get up to go to work. My experience the first time using the ring was an infections and burning and it went away after the second time I used it. I didn’t know the ring was the cause of the infections it until now. After two years I have been passing blood clots and bleeding know for three weeks, I even thought that I was pregnent and I lost the baby and for three days and I was very diprest, afraid that I really miscarried a baby and on Friday I took a pregnancy test and it came negative. I made an appointment with my OB/GYM doctor and he also did a pregnancy test and it came negative and we didn’t know the reason why I was bleeding for so long and he also gave me medicine to stop the bleeding and also gave me iron pill for my anemic, since I lost so much blood. He told me he would do some test and find out why I am bleeding so much, so he did other test and schedule a Tran’s vaginal ultra sound sonogram test. The doctor found out that I have 3 fibroids in the uterus and the doctor suggested having D/C uterine scraping, so that I don’t get any cancer in my uterus. I talk with my husband and also decided to do a hysterectomy. Surgery went well, I am still here. I schedule the surgery on a Friday and back to work on Monday. Now I am concentrating on getting better and try to loose the weight. NOTE: I have read that soo many of you have problems in the libido or sex drive. I never had a problem in that department. I meet a great man and we both love having sex, before I started the NuvaRing and during using the ring and after the operation have not lost the edge of having sex two to three times a day. I think many of just don’t find the time, too busy with work or busy with the kids, lost that loving feeling. I am too in love and love doing it.
I hope this was helpful.

Hi Everyone,
I've been reading post after post on the side effects of the NuvaRing, and I am so glad that I found this site. Thank you all for sharing! I feel relieved to know I wasn't abnormal or plain crazy. Let me share my own experience.
I've been on the NuvaRing for 14 months, and before that for 5 months. At first, I absolutely loved it and didn't really feel any side effects. I had previously used the patch, and hated it because it made me extremely nauseous and dizzy. With the NuvaRing, I didn't have to worry about taking a daily pill which was great. However, over the past 6-8 months, I've experienced the following symptoms:
- weight gain (up to 8 pounds that I can't seem to shed off no matter what I do)
- slight hair loss and thinning (luckily, I have lots of hair but it's not as healthy and shiny as it used to be)
- extreme vaginal itchiness and also constant itch on newly shaved legs
- ZERO libido. This one started from the very beginning of nuvaring use. I make myself have sex with my partner to maintain a healthy sex life. I used to get easily aroused and would love to have sex with him. I miss that....
- excess weight around abdomen and breasts. Need I say more??
- constant fatigue and lack of motivation
- dryness (vagina)
- bloating and severe IBS symptoms (I can no longer drink coffee which I used to love, can't eat pasta, pizza or heavy breads)
Today in particular, after having the ring in for 24 hrs, I've been extremely nauseated, sleepy, and mildly dizzy. I slept a total of 16 hours! And no matter how much exercise I do, and how healthy and little I eat, the scale won't budge one pound.
I will definitely get off the ring for a couple of months and monitor any changes (hopefully lots of improvement). I'll keep you posted.

Wow.... I am so glad I found this site. I am a normal, healthy, 24 year old who has been on Nuvaring for about 2.5 years after being on orthocycline since I was 19. I have always had a little bit of anxiety when speaking in front of a crowd, but it has gradually grown to panic attacks when make any sort of presentation (something that is regular for my job), and heightened anxiety when simply interacting with people I don't know very well. My doctor gave me Ativan to control the panic attacks, but recently I have been contemplating taking something daily. I've also noticed lower libido, overall lack of motivation, constant fatigue, constipation, slight hair loss and thinning, and overall irritability (yet no vaginal side effects). In the past year, any light amount of cardio will make make my heart race and make me feel like I'm going to faint (pulse was at 180 bpm in 1.5 minutes running slowly on the treadmill). My doctor ran tests and attributed it to "exercise induced asthma" which he gave me an inhaler for. That didn't work. Thank you to everyone who has posted on this site because now I KNOW it's the Nuvaring (which is unfortunate because it's soooooo convenient).

I'm a 47 male and took Crestor for a year. I experienced muscle tremors, constant fatigue and muscle soreness. Not just a little sore but as if someone had hit me so hard as to leave a muscle bruise in both arms. One night my left arm and leg began to tremor and it was as if they were too heavy to move.
What I noticed was that all of my little aches and pains became severe aches.
I experienced blistering on my hands, a common side-effect of your liver rejecting the medication but my doctor didn't pickup on the symptom. Instead, he gave me a steroid-based topical cream that actually eliminated the blisters but they would return within weeks.
I experienced lapses in my memory and I started to forget words. I would forget the names of things and I found myself substituting the word 'thingy' when I could remember what something was called (like a phone).
I visited the hospital 4 times and my doctor countless time. Each time my doctor treated the current symptom and not the person as a whole.
It became too much to bare when I started having chest pains that felt like something was crushing my chest. At this point I started to do some research and found forums like this one.
During my time of the worse pain, I felt like I was actually dying. I started to get my effects in order and finalized my estate.
I stopped my Crestor about a year ago, after about 3-6 months my muscles began to feel better. After a year, I am finally starting to feel like my old self again (not that I was all that well before).
Statin affect people differently, but there is NO DOUBT that these drugs can have adverse effects on people. Listen to the commercial for Lipitor, "contact your doctor if you have muscle fatigue or weakness"......

Hi,
Fist off I'm a fit 38 year old male, not overweight, don't smoke, occasional social drinker.
I've been taking Lisinopril since being diagnosed with high blood pressure in Feb 08, I was started on a dose of 5mg, which was then increased to 10mg and finally 20mg.
The Lisinopril never really got my high blood pressure under control and my Doctor has now switched me to Bendroflumethiazide, only been on those for about a week so have to see how they go.
Lisinopril certainly made me feel terrible:-
Constant Fatigue
Depressed
Foggy
No concentration
Dizzy
Tinnitus
Pounding headaches
if you feel like this then I'd go and see your Doctor and try something else

Hi...I have had the Mirena for 4,5 years. During the first months, everything was OK. But then the side effects came step by step...depression, no sex drive, constant fatigue, no motivation, I was always tired...I decided to have it taken out at the beginning of June. Since then, I am waiting for my menstruation. Nothing happens, I think my body still did not start to function as it should. I am 27 years old and do not have children yet. Oh, I am from Germany, here you can find thousands of reports concerning bad Mirena side effects in the Web. The gyns deny that the side effects have something to do with Mirena, but thousands of women all over the world can not be that wrong!

I was on 10mg of Lisinopril for 6 weeks (switched from Azor). After the first 3 days, I was having trouble swallowing . . . this went away 2 days later. Then, I was having trouble breathing, sinus problems, dizziness and constant FATIGUE during the course of the 6 weeks. I am a very active, energetic, 30 year old male. I'm not overweight, and play basketball 2 or 3 days a week. I really think I have White Coat Syndrome (170/110 at dr's office - 130/75 at home), but better safe than sorry.I could not even run for more than 5 minutes straight without feeling like I might pass out. I would have to say during those 6 weeks, I was functioning about 50% of normal, at best. I tried to stick it out to see if the side effects would go away; they only seemed to get worse over time. My Doctor said it was the "summer fever" and allergies. I felt it was the medication, especially after reading these posts, so I switched doctors. My new doctor took me off of this medication. He said Lisinopril can has been known to effect your lungs and cause breathing problems. He is located in the same practice as my previous doctor. Why she didn't inform me of any side effects, I'm not sure (thanks for nothing). All of my terrible symptoms were gone within a week. I am now taking Bystolic (5 weeks), and feel normal again. My father has been on 30mg of Lisinopril for 12 years, and never had any problems. I believe everyone reacts to medications differently. I am now on my 3rd medication in 7 months, and think I have found the one that works best. I guess I'm just one of those people that has trouble adjusting to medication. Good luck to those of you that have not found the right medication yet.

My doctor told me off the bat that the only thing wrong with the drug were some "theories" on cartilidge damage, how ever, now i see for myself, and for many other people that is not the only side effect. He told me that no one under 18 is supposed to have it but i caught a severe case of sinutitus, and a uti which ive had for 2 months and nothing was working, so he put me on levaquin, once a day for 7 days. My jaw dropped after reading all of these posts. I started on Yasmin 3 weeks ago. I've never really been on BC's before, so I thought that my headaches, numbness and fatigue were just because of school. I finally connected the dots and looked on the internet to see if it was the Yasmin or if i was just crazy. I am so thankful to have found this website. I wish it was in the paper or advertised. Doctors should not even be able to prescribe this drug.

My husband had a day fuzzy thinking and memory loss That scared me more then I can explain. With years of Joint pains back pains, loss of patiences and sometimes showing signs of depression for unknown reasons. He has a lot weakness in his arms and legs,he is tired more then ever. I thought he was just being lazy. constant fatigue and the shakes real bad. His knees pop in and out sometimes.
He difficulty with short-term memory and when we tell him things he did or said he has a hard time believing it. Also through the night he has to 'go' more often then ever. I always wondered where it came from.
Lipitor has almost destroyed our life in ways that we hope to be able to overcome in time. This is the only medicine he took so it has to be the BLAME.

Thank god I found this place, I thought I was alone!
I've been on Femcon for over a year and my side effects were initially mild but have grown progressively worse. I've experienced the constant fatigue, sleep issues, daily headaches and ESPECIALLY the MOOD SWINGS. The mood swings are the worst part, I feel as though I've lost total control of my emotional self.
I began to suspect the pills were messing with my head a few weeks ago when I looked back on what a complete emotional wreck I've been the last 6 months. Like others have posted...I now believe this pill made me a different person. I almost lost my boyfriend because of it (I broke up with him!) but we worked it out, and I've decided I am no longer taking this pill. I'll have to find another way to control my periods. This is not worth it.

I am so glad I am a research junkie, and that you all posted this for me to find. I just started on Lamictal about 3 weeks to one month ago. I just increased the dose to 100mg at night along with 150 mg of Wellbutrin XL. So far I have experienced hair loss, constant fatigue, excessive yawning, hacking cough, stuffy nose, dizziness, acne on my back, shoulders and face, terrible nightmares, waking with my heart pounding in the middle of the night, extreme rage, continued depression with racing thoughts, lack of energy/desire, general mental fuzziness and some trouble expressing myself verbally and literally.
I have tried several times to contact the doctor who prescribed this for me. But I can't get him to call me back. I desperately want to get off of this drug as soon as possible. That heart episode the other night nearly scared me to death! I didn't know what to do.
I was diagnosed with bipolar, but I still believe it's depression. I hope that I can get it figured out here soon before things get even worse. I had increased my level of exercise initially but for the last week I have been so tired and out of it I don't want to do anything.
Good luck to all of you as well, hopefully they'll get better at these treatments eventually!

i have high BP and was on a med that worked well but was rather expensive, so i asked my Doc if we could try something more affordable. he put me on Lisinopril and within a few days of starting this med i had headaches, coughing, upset stomach and dizzyness. i assumed this would be temporary as per getting used to the new med, but it only got worse... and by 2 months later i was also having shortness of breath, constant fatigue and trouble sleeping. i looked up Lisinopril side effects online and called my Doc to say that i was having many problems with this med, he assured me it was not the Lisinopril and to keep taking it. on Sept 28th 2007, i went in to see the Doc and my BP was still a bit high so he doubled the dosage of Lisinopril. 2 days after i started the new dosage i had such serious breathing problems i was literally gasping for air and had to go to Emergicare, my BP had come down and the Doc at Emergicare said the breathing problems were just seasonal allergies and prescribed some Prednisone which he said would help. he also said i might want to come in for some Nebulizer treatments. i continued to take the double dosage of Lisinopril and was so sick every day that i no longer even cared what happened to me. i had a constant pounding headache, chills/body aches, blurred vision, nausea, weakness, coughing, fuzzy confused feeling, and i felt totally exhausted...breathing was still difficult and at night just rolling over in bed caused me to gasp for air. well 2 days ago i could not take it anymore and called my Doctors office to firmly explain that the med was making me VERY ill, they said they would get a message to my Doc right away and in like 5 minutes they called back and said STOP this med immediately!! well it's been 48 hours now since the last dose of Lisinopril and i feel much better already. i still have a headache but the other problems are fading down to very mild. i can even breath again YAY....i only hope that in a few more days i will feel normal again. to ANYONE reading this dont take this med, it will make you very, very sick!! and for those of you who actually are on this stuff please pay attention to how you are feeling and tell your Doctor right away, dont ignore the side effects.. make your Doctor listen and tell him how you feel even if it seems like mild issues bcause it will get worse!! good luck and peace to all.. :)

Hello,
I read about how YAZ birth control pill affects the body and psych and I am now scared. This is my 2nd day of YAZ (I've never been on birth control pills ever and I am 27 years old), it's all new to me but after reading all these negative posts about Yaz I don't know what to do. Before the birth control pills, I was depressed, annoying, serious weight problems - 210 lbs :~~((, low energy, low libido, always tired, terrible migraines every 2nd day, ridiculously increased appetite and excessive hunger, hair where it shouldn't be, menstrual blood clots, excessive cramping etc
I have all these problems for 3 years now and now that the family doc. put me on YAZ birth control pill I am even more scared - mainly of more weight gain, it would be a tragedy for me, I am fat enough already and what's worse I can't lose the weight, exercise doesn't help, diet doesn't help, NOTHING. Will YAZ birth control pill worsen my already tragic condition? I just don't know what to do and what to believe ... I appreciate any advice or help you can give me ... Thank You to all!

on zocor since dec 2006, i have alot of other medical problems, arthritis, fused foot, very bad lower back and some osteoporesis, but i believe more so, than not; that my symptoms increased after a change in dosage. now i'm very tired, extreme muscle weakness, knee pain, having trouble walking, weight gain (10 lbs in last 2 months) and unbelievable swelling in ankles and top of foot, very painful
It's hard to blame zocor on this, but i don't just want to wear compression socks and so forth, because that could be masking the cause, and maybe just a change in lipid medication will change things around. it's a vicious circle, cant work out or walk, to tired to do anything, but work 14 hours a day, it's such an effort to walk (I keep blaming the weight gain) but maybe its really the swelling and joint pain along with the muscle weakness that's to fault.

Thank God for this website - I thought I was absolutely losing it. I started taking Yasmin August 2005, that was the very first Birth Control I have ever been on. I started noticing little symptoms over the course of the 1st 3 months. Which was no big deal. BUT from then on OMG!!! Here's my list of symptoms or shall I say HELL..
Constant Fatigue - Sluggish, very draining
Memory Loss, Easily Confused
Anxiety beyond belief - Very very emotional over stupid petty things - Which has been a real big strain on my relationship with boyfriend.
Depression, Crying for no reason at all
Mood Swings - Irritable
Tenderness in Breasts, and I also noticed on my left armpit it gets tender every now and then, let alone my cup size is bigger
Just started noticing Tingling in Fingertips last month
Frequent Urination - I mean this is bad...
And talking about Sex Drive - WHAT IS SEX! I have NO sex drive at all
Muscle Aches and Bad Night Sweats
I had no idea it was Yasmin doing all of this. I was about to go to the Dr. to check my thyroid but every since i found this website now i know what it is. I have a doctor's appt. next week and I am going to get on something different. This is just way too much for anyone to handle. I was perfectly fine before Yasmin, I was always a happy person, very sharp and on the ball, Now I don't want to do a damn thing..
Thank god for this website. Atleast I know I am not alone.
Oh, I was reading the post and a few posters had mentioned they are on Loestrin 24... I m thinking about switching to that - Is that any good????

Hey Gals,
-- By 07jm12kc | Reply | Private Message meI had my mirena put in in February 2009. I just got it out three weeks ago.
When I gave birth to my son I weighed 230, having gained 50 pounds during the pregnancy. Two months after giving birth I was down to 190 and losing weight fine. All throughout the pregnancy and afterwards I was eating healthy and exercising, so for people who say its just because we eat poorly and don't change our diet after we give birth, thats not always the case.
Then I got Mirena put in. I gained all that weight back, horrible mood swings where I would start snapping at my husband over inconsequential things. I started getting really bad headaches, (I've never had migraines before, but I'm sure it was pretty close). Constant fatigue; I was always tired, no matter how much sleep I got and never had any energy to play with my son. I also hadn't had a period since February of 2008, just a little spotting after getting the Mirena put in. Not to mention discomfort during intercourse, which just made the act seem unpleasant for both of us.
Now that I've got it out I've lost 15 pounds, I no longer have headaches, All of my energy is back and I'm not as tired as I was before, and I finally got my period! I have never been more excited to have it than before.
I guess it works for some people, but with it and the hormones it was secreting, my body couldn't handle it. I've tried other BC's before too and didn't have any problems.
