I had my son 5 months ago and had my Mirena put in at my 8 week check up. The day I got it in I hurt so bad and siting down was out of the question! It honestly felt like it was crooked or put in wrong. So I called my doctor office and of course like always no one ever called me back, but luckily the next day my body adjusted to it and the discomfort was gone. But I bled for oh my goodness, i want to say about 6 weeks after that! it was a drag! But now my periods are back to normal , I haven't noticed a difference in decrease yet ( sadly) in fact they may be a little bit heavier and longer. ( or it could just be that they seem that way cause I had a 9 month vacation! I also haven't noticed any horrible side effects other then just one. Sounds funny because im only 21 but i seriously feel like im going through menopause! Has anyone else felt this way?? I sweat in the middle of the night but am cold . Sometimes burning up hot when everyone around me is freezing cold and begging me to turn up the heat. Im boyfriend will probably tell you ive been mood swinging , maybe I have, i cant tell , right now im planning our wedding and raising baby ,I don't have time to tell, or know if anything ive been feeling is from the IUD or just stress from wedding planning. Now last week and the week before that i had a constant headache but again maybe be stress related. And as for depression, I was diagnosed with that when I was i think 16 and take zoloft for that so I don't have any problems with that. But I just want to know if anyone else is experiencing menopause like side effects?

Got the Mirena out yesterday...nearly instant relief of the bloated stomach, foggy head, constant headache. I slept like a baby for the first time in 2 years, I feel clear headed and HAPPY today. Had some cramping after she took it out and spotted for a few hours. It had started to embed itself in my uterus and when she removed it the pain I've been experiencing for the past 2 weeks was immediately GONE. Of course she attempted to give me a million ways to fix all my side effects without taking the "plastic nightmare" out of me but I was firm and told her that it was coming out if I had to take it out myself. Started the patch same day, still anticipating some bleeding but so far nothing to speak of aside from feeling immense relief. I had acne (horrible cystic acne on my back) hair falling out in handfuls, bloated, couldn't lose 5lbs even though I eat clean and work out 6 days a week, bacterial vaginosis several times, foggy head, mood swings like never before, my blood pressure was beginning to raise, stomach and back pains, i could go on for days. I do want to point out that had you asked me 1 1/2 years into having the Mirena if I was happy with it I would have said absolutely, I had no period and no side effects until having it for almost 2 years!

I'm 23 and just started Loestrin 24. I noticed the negative side effects immediately- nausea, cramping, constant headache, breakthrough bleeding, and severe depression. In general, I feel sick and unwell; ironically, I feel like I'm in the first trimester of a pregnancy. My doctor told me it may take a few cycles for me to adjust to this pill but I don't think I want to commit to a pill that causes this many adverse health problems. I think a baby would be less hassle!

My experience was a seven day short-lived trip through hell on Topamax.
I began experiencing a constant headache for several months in February 2009 (no prior history of headaches). I am healthy 32 y/o male. After multiple MRI's and CT scans came back negative I had a very severe headache that sent me to the ER. The ER helped arrange for me to see a Neurologist, who after patient listening to my laundry list of symptoms concluded I was having migraines (even though I had no sensitivity to light, sound, or nausea). I had been doing a decent amount of research on headaches and didn’t agree that they were migraines but decided, he’s the neurologist, I should trust him. Let me also say at this point, I am not a person looking for a pill to cure my problems, but I was getting desperate as my headaches were ruining my life. I was prescribed Topamax.
I was suppose to start with three days at 25mg, then go to three days at 50mg, and finally up to 100mg per day. The first three days were uneventful when I hit 50mg and then 75mg…I was out of my mind. I read these messages and see people at 400mg with no problems…it makes me cringe to think of dosing that high. I stopped at 75mg…here were my side-effects. Tingling in my face, lips, hands, arms, and fingertips, chest pains (I do have GERD and it jacked up my GERD bad!!!), pain in the back of head, taste confusion (soda tasting flat), and pressure in my eyes and temples…But those are NOTHING compared to the complete feeling of anxiety that over took my body. I had a mild nervous breakdown at work, became paranoid to the point where I was afraid to do routine tasks. And the MUSCLE SPASMS…those are the worst part. I have muscle spasms all over my body, just random fluttering of muscles in my chest, arms, back, neck, head, and face! I became suicidal and had the worst night terrors ever, of things, that I wasn’t even afraid of.
I have been off Topamax cold turkey for four days now and the anxiety has significantly subsided. I have worked through a lot of the anxiety with my wife and I now believe that stress is the cause of my headaches, not migraines like I tried to tell the doctor…but the muscle spasms have not stopped (they have decreased) yet…but I can’t wait for the Topamax to leave my body.
I used to think these messages boards were part of the problem, but they are very helpful. Do your research before you put anything into your body…trust yourself and if you disagree with your doctor, get a second opinion. This has been a life changing event for me.
Health and Happiness to all

I just got the Mirena in yesterday morning and have had a constant headache since - although it has lessened a bit. So far, aside from the intense pain of getting it put in (with having taking 2 advil prior to the appointment) is the bloating. I cannot even begin to suck in my stomach. I am hoping this will go away soon. I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and have been on the pill since I was 18 (I'm now 36), so this is a big change for me. I'm going to give it 3 months and see where I am at that point. Thanks for posting, as it is good to see what everyone's experience has been.

I was recently prescribed Doxy for Lyme disease. From the time I took my first dose until now, 3 days later, I have had horrible cramping. Similar to menstrual cramps, but worse. I also have a constant headache, though I'm not sure if the headache is caused my the meds or the Lyme disease itself. I have found I absolutely can NOT take this medication on an empty stomach. I drink the recommended amount of water and eat a few crackers when I take it. Seems to take the edge off a bit. I currently take a prescription medication for GERD, but I have been having the worst heartburn ever. Not so sure if I will be able to deal with 18 more days on this medication. I will probably call my doctor first thing Monday morning to see what my options are.

Hello, I have never done this before, but after taking Doxy for a long time for lymes disease I have been off of it for a while and some of the lymes symptoms were coming back so I started again on Doxy. I have started having chest pains and a constant headache. I just thought I would look it up and found this site. I am glad to know the chest pains are from the doxy and also the heartburn. I think I will take my chances with the Lymes.

Have been on simvastatin on and off for 15 months now. First of all 10mg came off for a while - cholesterol level up to 7.6 again so was put on 40mg. Very nauseous and came off the 40mg. Went back on to 10mg in Nov. and since then no nausea at all. At present I am getting terrible pain when laying down in my right leg from my hip into my buttock right down to my foot. It is similar to cramp in leg but it lasts sometimes for a couple of hours. Cramp usually disappears in a few minutes but it is the same sort of sensation. Also needle-like pains in my hand and foot. Above symptoms only since going onto Simvastatin. Would be interested in any others have these symptoms too. Trouble is damned if you take them and damned if you dont. Current research does show however that there is no benefit to women over 60 taking these wretched pills - everybody reading this should try and get or borrow the book by Dr Malcolm Kendrick entitled The Great Cholesterol Con (Dundee UK GP) written in 2008 who also is of this opinion. I am not advising not to take Simvastatin but please do research and read this book and reach your own decisions.

I have had all 5 types of migraines for 30 years. It seems I have had them longer then husbands : ), my children thought it was normal to "go to the ER" or to be in a dark room. I became very good at overcoming the incredible pain and pressure, rising to the top in my profession and being a single parent. I applaud my neurologist & his compassionate assistant. I toughed it out, ultimately, until Topamax came available. I still have migraines. I still must manage all my triggers. And people still don't get that migraines are all consuming and to overcome a migraine to attend a function is huge. However, I am currently, as others, backing off of several medications in a safe manner. My vision is not consistent. I tend to not play games, or read out loud as I cannot see what I used to. When I get up in the morning, my feet are sore. I have a dry mouth when I am speaking. My hands tingle and my ears ring. My gums bleed from pressure. It feels like I have a sinus infection. I have a constant headache and muscle soreness and weakness along with joint pain and low back pain. Having been on 75 mg Topamax since it came out, I no longer have the benefit of weight loss and weight gain is suddenly upon me--suddenly!! I do not wish to influence anyone in his or her choice. Personally, I am considering titrating off Topamax to see if any or all of these health issues change for me. I, too, have memory issues that are not associated with menopause. The problem with the list of side effects is that they could be present with other drug therapies or conditions. Once I have isolated the problems to Topamax, I will then have to weigh the cost of migraines vs. fewer migraines. I must remember to manage all triggers, as I hope others will also. I hope to be migraine free, with the benefit of good vision and better rest. I desire this for the readers of my post as well. Blessings.

I just got my Mirena place 2 days ago! The cramps were unbearable!!! Last night, I had some serious heart palpitations and shortness of breathe. I felt like I was dying! After reading all of the posts, I'm really feeling like I made a really bad decision. Today I'm really fatigued and weak, with a constant headache. I feel like I'm coming down with the flu. I've been spotting since Monday as well. I don't think that I will be having this I.U.D in for long.

I am glad I found this website. I thought I was losing my mind. I had a migraine for 5 days before going to the doctor. He didn't think the headache was from the Doxy. Ended up in the ER for the migraine, I was literally at my wits end. They gave me the cocktail to get rid of the headache and I woke up with it the next morning. I stopped taking the Doxy and started on Levaquin. Finally back to myself, no headache and energy.

I am a 31 year old male, in decent shape (play basketball, volleyball, workout at least 3 times a week) but I have a family history of high blood pressure and have had it myself as long as I've been tested. Went to cardiologist as a check up on my slightly enlarged heart, long story short, ended up on Metoprolol (25mg) beginning of 2008 and have been fine but no real help with bp. Then was put Lisinopril (5mg) a few months ago and my blood pressure was great at last checkup. However during that time I had a couple of weeks where I was very dizzy, that sort of feeling your brain is taking a second to keep up with your head as you get up, along with a fogginess and what seemed like sinus issues but I chalked it up to weaning off of a small dosage of Zoloft I had taken for over a year. I also developed "the cough" everyone refers to, but since it is winter in New England I chalked it up to dry heat, even though it was a choking cough unlike any I've ever had before. Also during that time I seemed to completely lose my sex drive, again figuring it was just something to do with the Zoloft or general anxiety. Then in the past week I started getting a constant headache, having really interrupted sleep, very foggy and out of it, tired, dehydrated, constipation, nausea, all things that I would normally associate with allergies or some kind of sinus/flu, but yet I couldn't really pinpoint anything that would be causing it.
Then I finally started looking up things about the meds I was taking and came upon this site, and guess what? Everything and every way I was feeling was described in hundreds and hundreds of posts on this site. I don't think my side affects were quite as strong as some have experienced (for instance the cough is very infrequent, like twice a day) but I have only begun my journey with Lisinopril. So despite the warnings, I decided to stop taking it a few nights ago, and almost instantly I began feeling better the next day and since then.
I have since called my cardiologist and he has recommended I switch to Diovan, basically saying that based just on the cough symptom alone, he wants me off of Lisinopril as this is a known side affect. Now I am left debating whether or not I want to continue down this path of trying different combinations of pills to poison my body in order to lower my bp. It seems like others have noted marked differences between taking Diovan and Lisinopril, where the Diovan has been much more tolerable than Lisinopril (with a great decrease in any side-affects) but I'm 31 and although I know it will be very difficult to reduce my bp on my own (believe me, I've tried) maybe I'm too young to start with the "last resort" of these toxins. Just reading about the possibility that Lisinopril was robbing my body of zinc or other minerals, so that my immune system is greatly weakened, likely being the cause for most of the symptoms, is enough to ward me off of pills altogether. It's a sad statement on the state of health care in America when I am left to basically make such an important decision on my own, because I can't trust that my doctors aren't just working in the interest of the drug companies to boost their income. I don't want to have to choose between a silent killer and a horrible existence filled with "side-affects".
In the end, based on some of the reports on here, I think starting on 40mg of Diovan will be fine, but I will certainly be VERY wary of anything unusual and immediately find other options.

My then 11 year old daughter received her first vaccine in June 2007, and third in December 2007. In January 2008, she began complaining of backaches and headaches. During the spring/summer 2008, she began having tremors, tingling and numbness in her legs and arms. She is always tired and never feels good. We have seen a neurologist and 2 neurosurgeons, had CT scans and MRIs. But no answers. She is on medication that has helped slightly, but she still suffers from a constant headache that she never ranks less that 4 on a scale of 1 to 10. Typically she rates it as a 7 or 8, and we have had a couple of 12s.

I am taking Levaquin now, but after reading all of this I plan on not finishing the 3 pills I have left. My head is numb and feeling so weird. I have a constant headache which I hardly ever have and I feel dizzy and really out of it. My stomach is sick and nauseated. Feeling almost depressed which I don't know why. I just don't feel right. My shoulders feel heavy and tingly and I feel more sick now than when I started taking it 7-8 days ago.

UPDATE: Hello to all you lovely ladies, I thought i would update you all on my sister. She now has had the Mirena out for exactly one week. She told me to tell everyone that even in the one week she can feel and see such a HUGE DIFFERENCE. The first thing was that within 24 hours her headache TOTALLY disappeared, yes thats right after having a constant headache for one year it just DISAPPEARED. Secondly she felt that she had more energy, she still felt tired but not that completely trashed feeling of not being able to get up and the aching feeling in her feet has gone also. Her bloated stomach was a bit less bloated also. She is keeping a journal as the days go on. God bless everyone suffering from this nightmare. I will keep updating you all. Oh and one more thing she stopped bleeding today after one week of removing that "Evil" WOOHOOOO !!!

I've only been on Yaz for about 1 week now. The following may seem strange, but I've been paying very close attention as my pmdd was so bad that my fiance was contemplating leaving me. What I experienced right away: more balance in my mood meaning that I nothing was too high or low, at the same time though in the mornings i woke up feeling depressed. High sex drive and two of the best orgasms I've ever experienced. Slight constant headache. Become teary at least once per day, but the thing is...these are feelings I used to just stuff... but now I am expressing them so it's actually a benefit. I asked him tonight,... "have you noticed a difference?" He said "Oh yeah". I'm laughing most of the time (he's really funny), i'm more light hearted and less serious! I'm more balanced in my thinking. I hate the headaches though.

I took aciphex for 16 months, ran out of prescription Thursday, and haven't felt this good for long time. I thought my weight gain and constant headache was
due to getting older. I had such a energy burst today that makes me believe it was Aciphex that made me the couch potato day and night. tiredness was brutal and when I was at NY last week I could not go up to stairs at Subway without having to stop and get my breathing in order not to mention being able to hear your own heart beat is little scary. Also I had severe leg pains on both sides-kind of rotating cramps and pinching, especially on my hamstrings.

Have stopped taking Zocor today after finally accepting that my life has changed since taking this medication....am too weak to open a soda bottle, keep twisting words, memory is shot, Hips, knees and ankles scream whenever I have been sitting for more than 15 minutes....light headed, dizzy and constant headache...want to just curl up in a ball and cover my head for loss of ambition. I am exhausted all of the time.

I am a 31 year old mother of a beautiful 13 month old daughter. From the age of 15 to age 23 I was on a birth control pill (I do not remember which one...I think it was Ortho Tri-Cyclen.). When I decided to stop taking the pill at age 23, I noticed a HUGE change in my personality. I felt much better/happier and had an increased sex drive. Going forward, I decided not to take hormones if I could help it.
Prior to the birth of my daughter, we tried the diaphram with spermicide and I had a reaction to the spermicide. My boyfriend would lose his erection any time we tried condoms. I did try the NuvaRing (hormones) and HATED that; it made me feel like my head was going to explode. I ended up pregnant, had my daughter and, after the birth of my daughter, tried the copper IUD. My body rejected that and it was a bad experience. I felt like I had no other choice, but to try the birth control pill again. I approached it with a positive attitude and was hopeful.
MY EXPERIENCE WITH LOESTRIN 24:
Dear women and concerned spouses,
Today is the sixth day I have been on Loestrin 24. I started taking YAZ and had diarrhea so bad that I had to switch after day two of taking the YAZ product. On day three, I started Loestrin 24 and (like I said previously) have been on it for almost a week. I went from being energetic, happy and sensual to the polar opposite.
The signs of depression and anxiety were almost immediate, but I was trying to give it a chance. It is not worth it to me any longer, as I have been upset with my boyfriend and crying almost every day. You might think it is coincidence, but it is not. I know my body and my mind; this behavior is not me. I have not been reacting rationally and I have been extremely emotional. I am an emotional person to some degree, but this is REDICULOUS. I have a constant feeling of irrational fear in our relationship and severe anxiety. I am aware enough to recognize that these feelings are not natural and that something is wrong and the problem is NOT with me.
The first day I took Loestrin 24, I had the shakes and felt very cold. Anxiety accomodated these physical effects. The second day of taking the YAZ product, I noticed a cramp in my right leg. By the time I was into my second day of Loestrin 24, I felt an aching in both my legs and lower back pain...both of which have NOT gone away. My periond stopped by the second day on YAZ, but started again with the first pill of Loestrin 24. This may be due to a change in pills, but it has not stopped since.
If you or someone you know is experiencing sadness and unusual behavior, or even a relapse in depression, the birth control pill may have something to do with it. I have been doing quite a bit of research on all birth control pills and the effects of depression that they have on women. I am speaking from experience and, so far, Loestrin 24 has been the worst at causing me symptoms of fear, depression, anxiety and just an overall helpless feeling. These leg cramps have me fearing blood clots, as well. Some of the other women on here have noted these leg and back pains, as well.
If I could find a non-hormonal solution to birth control (other than abstinence) I would use it.
Some women do fine on the pill and, obviously, some do not. I say, "Give it a try!", but listen to your body and that little voice in your head telling you that something might be wrong...it is usually right.

All I can say is WOW! I did a search for Levoxyl side effects because in the 2 weeks since my dosage has gone up (200 mcg) I have had a constant headache and my entire body just aches, especially my hips, legs and knees. I have a hard time sleeping because I can't get my knees in a comfortable position. I do have arthritis which has not really bothered me in over a couple of years and this is not the same as my arthritis pain. It is more of an overall achiness and it feels like my bones are sore. I am also having eye twitching occasionally, but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. What should I do?

I am a 21 year old female and have been on Topamax since October of 2006. I am up to taking 250mgs a day having a constant headache and getting a migraine about every week. I have had such a range of side effects and symptoms that I can't tell the difference nor know where to begin. The most recent is muscle spasms in my eye lid and leg that won't go away. I have spasms infrequently all over, but these have been pretty constant. I also tire very easily though I always get 8 hours of sleep a night. Though those are not always 8 full hours of sleep, because I do have boughts of insomnia. I have also dealt with the intestinal problems to the point of thinking that I had appendicitis. I have had multiple trips to the hospital for abdominal pain and severe migraines. I have had the vision problems - blurred, dizziness, vertigo, and the weird one were my eyes jerk back and forth. I rarely have all at once and they have come and gone throughout the 2 years, but they have come back
I think the most mysterious one of all are the lypomahs - these little painful nodules under the skin that just appeared. They are mostly on my abdomen, but have found them on my chest as well. Any one else heard of this?
