I have been taking Synthroid for about 10 years. I have had different issues; but it was not because of the hormone itself. There were times, when I was just in denial and would stop taking it all together and I felt great, too! But, then, eventually I would feel bad again. Here are some things that I have learned throughout the years:

Your levels need to be checked on a regular basis because your levels are constantly changing.

Sometimes the dosage of Synthroid is correct for you, but the dye (whatever color that dosage pill comes in) could be causing certain symptoms. Example: headaches, stomach aches.

You must take your pill at the same exact time everyday! I usually take mine 45 minutes before I get up for the day. Put a bottle of water and your pills by your bed and roll over and take one each morning 30-45 minutes before you actually get up and start your day.

Never use generic!!!!! The chemicals are the same, but the recipe is not.

As always, eat right and exercise.

It is important to know that some people will never stop losing their hair; Some people's goiter will never go down; and some days you will be more tired than others. That is the nature of the disease.

Last but not least, change doctors if you feel that your current doctor is not trust worthy. I have had 3 different endocinologists and they each had different philosophies. Using your OBGYN or Main Doctor is okay for your initial test, but only a specialist can help you maintain this disease. The specialist also test on more levels, unlike your OBGYN.

Hope this helps!!!!

8 months ago I had kenalog in a very large bolus injected into my knee, since I have had severe deformity to my knee and surrounding area. My skin is paper thin, to the point you can feel the grooves in my patellar surface, I have had very abnormal bruising to my knee (the bruise has never gone away and is constantly changing), my menstral cycle has stopped, I have bouts of severe moodiness, the tissue surrounding my knee appears to be eroding away, my skin is peeling, and my recent MRI shows very abnormal findings. I was not warned of the severe side effects. I have also recently developed GI bleeding.

I hate prednisone. I was given it in bursts for the last 10 years for asthma and for some reason I thought the Dr told me to stop at 10 mg and when I did my adrenal glands didn't kick in and I have been stuck on the stuff for the last 2 years since. I wean down to about 17 and then end up in the hosptial. this has happened multiple times. I was down at 17 a month ago and ended up in the er where they jacked me up to 40 and now I am at 23 but I am only able to wean at 1/4 a week at the most. I now am in menopause at 38 I have constant hot flashes rapid cycling mood swings. panic attacks. my heart races all the time I have cushings and possibly addisons now. I can't drive anymore my weight has gone up over 100 lbs my vision is constantly changing. I have pseudotumor cerebri and am now diabetic. This stuff is POISON> I also keep TONS OF FLUID ON face legs chest etc and now have to take lasix> I have tried to wean faster for the last 2 years but end up back up higher than before. I hate this drug. Don't let the Dr put you on it if you can avoid it. Also I would love to know if anyone knows of any type of inpatient facility to help with the weaning. My heart constantly skips and races on this stuff I am really afraid one day I will Die from being on prednisone. But I can't find a Dr to help me. This has ruined my life with my family if anyone can help please let me know
