I was using the Nuvaring for about a year and a half. It took it out on Jan 18th and within a week I was bleeding (having a period) that lasted 3 WHOLE WEEKS! Along with that, I had breast & nipple tenderness. I almost went to see my OB but decided it was definitely my body recovering from the ring. The bleeding ended a week ago but now I have this bloated/fullness in my abdomen that doesn't seem to go away much. Like a heavy feeling. Can someone PM me if they have experienced something like this? I'm going to see my OB next Thursday but in the meantime I'm getting paranoid about other diseases I may have (unfortunately I suffer from anxiety). Thank you.

I've been on Lisinopril for 4 months, I've experienced dizziness, dry mouth, constant cough, pressure in my throat, pain in my legs, shortness of breath, constipation, bloating, I've fallen 3 times for no apparent reason, but worse of all hair loss. My Doctor is on vacation, I will ask her to take me off of it.

Diagnosed with mild/moderate UC in November '09. I was given Asacol 9 pills a/day. It seemed to help. I am also using the SCD diet, removing all white sugars and artificial garbage from my diet. January '10 I started having bloody diarrhea again. My doc prescribed me Prednisone 50mg for the first week, 40mg for the next week, 30,20,10. She also gave me a script for Imuran, but after researching it online, I refuse to take that because of the possible side effects, like cancer! -On to my experience with Prednisone... I am in week 3 right now, and I am having solid normal bowel movements!!! The first week of taking it, it worked immediately! During the first two weeks I was very constipated, stomach bloated, and bad lower back pain when I'd lay down for the night. I would also wake up a lot through the night and average 5 hrs sleep.

Now that I am in week 3 at 30mg a/day, my constipation is subsiding, but I still get a little bloated when I over eat. Coffee has been my friend the last 5 days. I PRAY TO GOD THAT WHEN I AM FINISHED WITH PREDNISONE, MY SYMPTOMS OF UC ARE GONE. I know this isnt a cure, but since I have been on prednisone, I feel as if I do not even have this disease. Is it possible prednisone will put me into permanent remission??????

I am a man in my mid twenties and will being joining the military next month. Boot camp will be hell on me if I have a flare-up, but I am at a point in my life where I am willing to die trying to achieve my goals. If I have to, I will sneak a bottle of prednisone in training with me, just so I can survive boot camp.

Why did god do this to me?

IT'S OUT!!! UPDATE from Feb 26 post. I had my Mirena removed yesterday.
Words cannot describe how much better I feel! It wasn't painful at all. Just a little discomfort that lasted 2 seconds. My doctor did say that's not with all cases. It does hurt some women. My personal opinion, I think it depends how long you leave it in. AS SOON AS MY DOCTOR REMOVED MY MIRENA, I SAT UP ON THE TABLE AND TOLD MY DOCTOR "YOU MAY THINK I'M CRAZY BUT I FEEL SOOO MUCH BETTER". MY DOCTOR SAID "A LOT OF WOMEN SAY THAT AS SOON AS MIRENA IS REMOVED". INSTANTLY, my ache in my back was gone. The whole pressure thing in my lower back and front was gone. My cramps that I had were gone. My bloating went down and is still going down. Makes you have a lot of gas. But it's coming out. My constipation in gone. As soon as I got home I headed to the bathroom. Felt like I had lost 50 pounds. Gross but true! My brain fog was gone. Nausea gone. Oh and my severe joint aches...GONE! My energy level is through the roof (depression gone)! I feel so good today. I would tell anyone if you are having thoughts about getting your Mirena out. Get it out! You know in your heart you need to have it removed. Listen to your heart and your gut feeling! Get it out before it gets wrapped up and gets stuck and caused complications. If your doctor tells you to leave it in and maybe the side effect will go away, go another route...LIE and tell them you want to have another baby...anything to get it out!!

Today is a beautiful day... THE DAY I WILL GET MIRENA REMOVED!!! I had Mirena inserted in October of 2009. Now, only 4 months later, I am desperate to get my life back. I chose it because it was the first thing recommended to me by my OB/GYN after I told him I didn't want 'The Pill' due to previous issues with side effects when I was younger. I am a 41 year old, OB Nurse with 4 kids and was trying to save my husband from having a vasectomy. SINCE MIRENA, I HAVE EXPERIENCED THESE SIDE EFFECTS:
DEPRESSION
SEVER, MOOD SWINGS WITH LOTS OF ANGER,
NO SEX DRIVE,
FACIAL ACNE THAT NEVER STOPS (USED TO HAVE CLEAR SKIN),
WEIGHT GAIN (FLUCTUATING BETWEEN 8 - 10 LBS),
HAIR LOSS IN FIRST FEW MONTHS (NOW SUBSIDING A BIT),
SPELLS OF LEG WEAKNESS (DIDN'T LINK IT UNTIL I READ YOUR STORIES),
CRAVINGS FOR SWEETS,
GENERAL LETHARGY, SADNESS,
DON'T WANT TO GET UP IN THE MORNING (DUE TO LACK OF ENERGY, EMOTION)

Sadly, my husband and I are working through troubles that have nearly cost us our marriage of 17 years.... now I'm certain they are related to Mirena's effects on me! How SAD!!! I'm a spontaneous person (at least I used to be), so I didn't do much research and trusted my doc when he said this is really a great thing. HA! I'm hoping and praying I can get my life back now. I will keep you updated with postings. I feel like you are all my sisters in pain and I hope we all can get back to NORMAL lives after Mirena. I'm so sad about all this. One DUMB decision by me and my life has been turned upside down! Best of luck to EVERYONE here... I'm praying for you all!

It's been over 3 months since I had the Mirena inserted. My doctor told me there would be an adjustment period 3 - 6 months long. However, the scale is rising. My pants are getting tight! I definitely went up a size already. I still have periods... and light bleeding the week before my period. My mood isn't as good. I feel a little anxious. I am tempted to call tomorrow and schedule the removal - if for no other reason but the weight gain! I am scared to wait too long! I don't want to gain too much weight and then have a hard time losing it. I have adjusted my eating and I've always exercised. Nothing helps! I know it's the Mirena. I'm so upset with myself for having this stupid thing inserted into my body! Which btw wasn't a walk in the park!

I have had mirena in now for about a year. I got online like the rest of you because I needed to find some answers. I figured I had hypothyroidism or some other condition until I found all of these women with the same symptoms. I have suffered from hair loss and lots of bleeding for the first 6 months. Then once the hair loss subsides, you have to look forward to bloating, major constipation, weight gain, mood swings, lethargy, discharge, spotting at random times, and an occasional racing heart beat which turns to panic and decreased sex drive or none at all... (which you attribute to the weight gain and constipation). Mirena works well because it keeps you from wanting to have sex or your husband from wanting to have sex with you. I am sure this works the correct way for some people, but these side effects should be discussed prior to the insertion, not found online once the side effects become unbearable to the recipient. Keep posting Ladies! Maybe we will help others from making the same mistake we did!

Taking amoxicillin 3x 500mg daily. Taken only 3 pills so far, two yesterday (because I got them in afternoon) and one this morn. Had a sore throat for two weeks which developed into a chest infection. When Ive used amoxicillin years ago I used to suffer from constipation for days after and occasionally a yeast infection would follow, so this time i prepared myself for this. But taken only 3 pills and am feeling incredibly weak, tired, DIZZY and very DROWSY. Its only a 5 day course so would want to finish it, but I have 3 young kids so i need to stay alert!
Feel dopey and just want to sleep, If i didn't have to look after the children I would probably continue and just stay in bed for days!!
Side effects aren't that unpleasant for me, just feel drunk! Ok if you haven't responsibilities. These pills must be too strong for me.

I have been on Lamictal for 3 years for a seizure disorder and have many of the same side effects - spelling issues, memory issues, aching joints. The most frustrating side effect is constipation. (Has become an issue over the past year as I have been adjusting the dosage and dropped the adjunctive drugs.) Do others share this side effect? My doctor does not think that there is a correlation. I am heading off to conduct environmental research in tropical areas next week and sure would like to solve this issue, or at least know that others share this side effect from Lamictal.

I have been on Topamax for just over three weeks and am now at a dosage of 100 mg a day (50 mg morning and 50 mg at night). Beginning this morning I will be weaning myself off from it. I just realized this morning that it must be the Topamax that has been making me feel awful! I have pains in the back of my neck and pains in my back and am achy all over; and although I haven't experienced any loss of words or memory issues, my brain feels 'foggy'. My mood is awful and I have no enthusiasm for work or fun or hobbies or anything. I am fatigued and tired, but can only sleep about five hours a night. I have tingling in my feet and hands occasionally, but not too severe. And the worst part is that the Topamax hasn't helped the headaches for which it was prescribed! And for those who think that it will help them lose weight - please realize this does not occur with everyone! I have actually gained two pounds over the last three weeks. I was originally on Nortriptyline for my NDPH (New Daily Persistent Headache Syndrome), but couldn't handle the weight gain and constipation side effects so switched to the Topamax. I will be going back to the Notriptyline and the gym.

I started taking Loestrin24Fe about a little over a month ago. I'm in the first week of my second pack. I've never had trouble with BC until now. I've been on the pill for 13-14 years. I've tried several different kinds. I was on Yasmin for many years and more recently Lo ovral and the generic form Ocella. I was fine taking the other pills, except for a low sex drive, so I switched to Loestrin. I always got my period regularly with Ocella and it only lasted about three days. When I started taking Loestrin I felt nauseous all the time, I was constipated, moody, irritable, and got frequent headaches. I also gained about five pounds, I'm bloated all the time, and I feel like I'm pregnant. My breasts are tender and larger, and my lower abdomen is bloated and even feels hard. I also didn't get my period this first month of being on the pill - which never happens to me! I thought maybe I was PG, so I took a test, which was negative. In the past few days I've been experiencing symptoms similar to gall bladder attacks. Pain in my upper abdomen, right under my rib cage. It lasts for several hours and radiates into my back between my shoulder blads, and into my right shoulder. I've also been so bloated and feeling incredibly full the last couple days, along with acid reflux and indigestion, even though I haven't eaten much because I've felt so full. I'm going to call my OBGYN. At first I thought these symptoms were all in my head, but after reading all these posts I know it's not just me! Thanks for sharing ladies! I'm glad to know I'm not crazy!

I left a comment a day ago about this site and how great it is. Because I'm so tired of callous and in some cases incompetent medical professionals I started to search for other options to my medical condition as mentioned in my first post. This came yesterday in the mail from Alternatives for the health conscious individual-Dr. David G. Williams, and I quote " More than 70 million Americans have high blood pressure. No wonder it's a $5 billion a year business for drug companies! Doctors know that people with mild to moderately high blood pressure levels can benefit more from dietary and lifestyle changes than from medication, but continue to prescribe medications rather than natural solutions..."
"Doctors at the University of Chicago studying the Oriental custom of using celery to lower hypertension discovered that it contains the chemical 3-n-butyl phthalide. This smoothes the muscles lining blood vessels which increases blood vessel diameter and allows for easier blood flow at lower pressures...."
"...Using the recommended Oriental dosages to lower mild cases of high blood pressure, one would eat about four ounces of celery daily. This works out to about a cup chopped up. Often this needs to be continued for only a week or two to obtain desired results...When you eat celery don't peel the strings off. They act like a scrubbing brush that gently stimulates the bowels and removes excess waste material..." "...Sodium in celery is also beneficial for people who suffer from stiffness in their joints, Celery or celery juice will very often stop creaking knee joints..."

There you have it! a Doctor giving sound natural advice, one of the reasons I signed up to his newsletter. No need to suffer I say. I know this isn't the forum to dispense this type of information but the HORROR stories make it worthwhile that I share this information. There are alternatives. I'll be more than glad to share my information with you if you leave me a message. It is clearly time that this product, Lisinopril, be removed from the marketplace ASAP.

My son has been on Singulair chewables and albuterol neb treatments 3X per day for about three weeks. He is 3 years old and could not shake a cough he got well before Thanksgiving. He still has the cough and today is Christmas. We almost went to the emergency room today because we stopped the nebulizer a week ago and everything has now come back again (and worse it seems). It's like we are starting over. As far as the aggression: we first thought it was the Albuterol that was making him crazy and aggressive (hitting, shouting 'I don't love you', refusing to nap at daycare), but now we realize it is more likely the Singulair.

Here is my thing now: I thoroughly believe in regular cough medicine, cough suppressant, robitussin, mucinex, delsym. These are the over-the-counter type of syrups and drugs we all grew up on and they worked for us!!!! Did you have even ONE friend as a kid who was on the sort of drug lineup our kids are on these days? This cough that my son can't shake right now is a result of the ONLY time his whole life that I did not give him cough medicine at onset because the pediatricians are now saying, "positively no cough medicine for kids under 6". I think probably some people overdosed their kids on it, they had heart attacks, and now this is the response (no cough medicine for kids under 6). Again, this cough my son has now is the only time I did not give him cough medicine in the beginning and now look what has happened. They are talking Asthma possibly b/c he has acute brochospasm. And like everyone else is saying, he is itchy and acting out due to the Singulair too! What a freakin' mess.

I am going back to the old school way of treating cough and cold. Does anyone agree? Do I need to move to Florida or California? Philly is cold . . .

I was taking 10mg of Lipitor for years, with no noticeable side effects. However, last April, I had 2 stents put in and the doctor increased the Lipitor to 40mg. I immediately started suffering from extreme constipation, and it seems to get worse all the time. I also started taking Plavix, but I have not seen any information on Plavix and constipation. Was already on vicodin when started fentanyl patch 25 mcg. Then had to go up to 50 mcg because lower back pain was so bad. On it for 3 months when new Dr discovered that intense, painful physical Therapy made the pain go away in 4 weeks. Then the withdrawal came. 5 weeks to get off Vicodin, nausea, sweats, difficulty sleeping, etc... But this was small compared to tapering off Fentanyl. Mostly had nausea, stomach pain, sweats, irritability, depression, constipation, and fatigue. Avoid this if you can by never starting Fentanyl.

I had Mirena put in back in September 2009 after the birth of my daughter. I had lost 20 pounds right before I had it put in, but then gained it back within a month of having it. My doctor said it was not from the mirena. Well I have been on weight watchers since October and work out almost every day for about an hour and have not lost a pound! It is everything I can do to maintain my weight! I aim to lose about 70 pounds but cant seem to do it. I look like I am 6 months pregnant. I also have no sex drive, horrible migraines(sp?) hair loss, very dry skin and really bad mood swings. I thought for a while maybe I was bi polar it was so bad. One of the worst side effect was the constipation. I cant go unless I take a lax. I have had my blood work done, and everything is fine. My blood pressure is a bit low but thats it. I scheduled an appointment for next week to have this taken out. I am so done! I just want to lose the weight and not have headaches or mood swings anymore. I would not recommend this to anyone. If you do have it, have it taken out!!!!

I started Loestrin 24 (prescribed by my doctor) on Sunday, 11/8/09. Exactly 1 week later, I started heavy bleeding/clotting, severe cramping in my stomach and lower back, constipation and weight gain. The cramping has been so bad that I had to be put on pain killers! As for the weight, I've put on 5lbs in just 2 weeks. Today is day 9 (since the symptoms started) and the symptoms still persists. I stopped the pill about 2 days ago and just praying that this stuff passes through my system as soon as possible. I WILL NEVER TAKE LOESTRIN 24 AGAIN!! This was the worst experience, every! Thank you ladies for all your posts, it helped me to realize that Loestrin 24 was the cause for my nightmare and it was time to stop!

I HAD KNEE SURGERY ON 11/02/2009. MY DOCTOR PRESCRIBED PERCOCET FOR THE PAIN. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT OR WHAT EFFECT THE NARC WOULD HAVE ON ME. ALL I KNEW .....IS THAT I WANTED SOMETHING THAT WOULD KEEP ME FROM FEELING THE PAIN. AT 1ST I WAS TAKING IT EVERY 8HRS & I WOULD WAKE UP IN GREAT PAIN. THEN MY SON READ THE BOTTLE & SAW THAT I WASN'T TAKING IT AS PRESCRIBED. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKING IT EVERY 3HRS. SO I STARTED TO TAKE IT EVERY 3HRS & INSTANTLY I FELT A DIFFERENCE. (MY NOSE STARTED TO RUN) I WOULD BE (TALKING 1 MINUTE THEN DEAD SLEEP THE NEXT) MY SKIN WAS (ITCHY) ALL THE TIME (LIKE I WAS AN ADDICT) I STARTED GETTING (ABDOMINAL PAIN) (SEEING SPOTS) VERY PERKY THOUGH. THEN THE (CONSTIPATION) CAME. THIS WAS ALL IN A MATTER OF 4 DAYS. BY THAT EVENING OF THE 4TH DAY THE CONSTIPATION & ABDOMINAL PAIN WORSENED & I DECIDED I WASN'T GOING TO TAKE THE NARC ANYMORE. I DIDN'T TAKE IT YESTERDAY & HAD A (HARD TIME GETTING TO SLEEP) THANK GOD IT WASN'T DUE TO THE PAIN. I DIDN'T TAKE ANY TODAY BUT THOUGHT ABOUT IT SO I CAN GET TO SLEEP BEFORE 5AM. PLEASE KEEP ME IN YOUR PRAYERS FOR I WILL KEEP ALL OF YOU (THE COMMENTS IVE READ) IN MINE. GOD BLESS

been on them for nearly two years. i've had painkillers for 15 years due to ankylosing spondylitis and have been through a whole rake of medicine.
about a year ago i started getting tired spells, now in 6 weeks i see the specialist in the endocrinology unit with suspected hypoglycemia. But i reckon it's these patches, i went from 25 to 37 (25+12mg) and i got worse so it seems straight forward and all the blood tests are negative in regards to glucose. As for the constipation, a diet of all bran every morning without fail and it solves that problem. I still take celecoxib and omeprazole as well as 2-6 co-codamol per day. The withdrawal on these patches is awful. I am going to stop them after new year and go back to codeine/paracetamol and the celecoxib(celebrex) to manage the pain.

I have been on topamax for about 7 months now for migraines && im about to get off of it. Im 18 years old and "trying" to do college but ive had so many side-effects its crazy. I cant go to the bathroom w/out taking laxatives cuz i just cant go ne more i literally have to take something everyday or i will be stopped up for a week or more. Ive been depressed and my anxiety has gotten worse.I take 150 and they want to put me up to 175 but i refuse because ive heard of people losing their hair taking it especially when they have a b12 deficiccency...which i have. I have horrible mood swings i can be happy one minute then sad or mad the next and i never used to be like this. Ive now started getting my migraines back so im stumped on what to do. I cant word things right....i was trying to say i didn't like something and instead it came up "im not to high"... yea so its deff a crazy drug but it can work for others and not. Not for me!

I started on a 10-day course six days ago for chronic sinus infection. Strange things started happening but I didn't connect it to the drug at first... first night, I kept waking up and having weird nightmares, very unusual for me. On the second day a headache from hell kicked in and lasted about two days. This was really awful, just bearable, but I still didn't connect it to the amox until a friend sent me the link to this page. It helped to know what was going on because the doc told me NOTHING, which really ticks me off. I've also been feeling very, very down and hopeless, also not like me, and the last couple of days I've had strange aches and pains all over my body. These feel like they're deep inside and unlike anything I've ever experienced. I'm a male in my 50's and generally avoid drugs and chemicals of all kinds. This just reminds me of what's wrong with doctors... all they know how to do is prescribe drugs and operate. Forgot to mention the constipation followed by diarrhea on the second and third days. Ugh.

I felt I should share my story, even though it is quite lengthy, since it is similar, and every story helps those who are still unsure.

I went on birth control at the age of 15. I tried several kinds, but all of them made me nauseous. I was on Mircette the longest, and seemed to be doing fine. Then around '03/'04 I started seeing a new ob-gyn, who told me that my problem was that I had a low tolerance for estrogen, and that was what was making me feel so nauseous. She said there was a new type of pill specifically for women like me called Yasmin that had very low doses of hormones. I was excited about starting the new pill, and did right away.

I continued taking Yasmin until about a year ago, when I switched to the generic of Yasmin, Ocella, due to the fact that my insurance didn't cover Yasmin and it was becoming expensive. On the Ocella, which I took for two months, I felt bloated like I had a basketball in my stomach, constipation, and other issues. I was told by the pharmacist that I was probably allergic to the additives that are sometimes in generic pills. So I decided to find out which birth control was covered under my prescription plan, call my gyno, and switch.

My gyno called in Loestrin Fe, but they filled it with the generic, Microgestin. I took this for approximately 3-4 months, and felt absolutely terrible, with panic attacks, crying, sleeping problems- the whole bit. So I thought that I should go back on Yasmin, no matter what the cost, and attempt to regulate again.

I went back on Yasmin six months ago, and though some of my symptoms have improved over how I felt on Microgestin, I am still a mess at times. I have moments when I am anxious and moments when I am absolutely joyful. I get really angry over little stuff, irritable and snappy. Then I get weepy and feel terrible about being snappy. Then I'm happy again. It's an emotional rollercoaster. I was never like this before- my moods were even, and I handled stress well. And I was always pretty happy-go-lucky.

Physically, I have ear fluttering/clogging/pressure/popping/pain. I'm getting fairly frequent migraines, which I never had before more than once a year. I, too, have numbness on the right side of my face in which it feels like my eyelid is swelling, neck stiffness and pain, and numbness of fingers and arm. I went to the ER a while back because I thought something was severely wrong due to symptoms of dizziness (vertigo) and right-sided numbness. I have severe TMJ and jaw pain, which I didn't have before, and allergies, which I also never had before. I have heart palipitations and sometimes random chest pain under or to the side of my breast. All of these symptoms have started to occur in the last six months after going back on Yasmin.

I went to an internist, who did blood tests, checking for thyroid issues and checking hormone levels. My thyroid was temporarily hyper, but my hormones were, according to the test, normal. But when the blood test was done, I wasn't experiencing any symptoms, so I'm not sure if it's accurate.

My yearly exam with my gyno is coming up in November, and I'm going to discuss these things with her, but I'm afraid she'll look at me strange for thinking that these symptoms are related to Yasmin...

Ironically, the only time it seems that I'm feeling pretty good is when I have my period! Which I guess would be when I have no hormones in me whatsoever! I feel happier and my sex drive goes back up, and my moods even out.

I am now considering, after reading these posts with all of you that were kind enough to share your stories, going off of Yasmin for good. I'm not sure what, if anything, my gyno is going to recommend, but I was considering trying an IUD instead...
