I've been taking Femcon for about three months now, and while I haven't noticed 'typical' side effects i.e. weight gain (I've actually lost weight), moodiness/PMS, breast tenderness, etc., I've had my period THREE times in one month. They've been true periods, too, complete with cramps and fatigue. It's so frustrating.
I've also experienced a severe UTI while taking this pill; I thought it was due to sex, but upon reading an earlier post I can't help but wonder if it was from this pill. The pain was horrific, and I have a high pain threshold. I went to urgent care and had to have my boyfriend drive because I was in such severe pain. It felt like I had thrown my back out (pain was centered in my lower back).
I've been on and off birth control since I was 17 - for 6-7 years I took Ortho Tricyclen with no side effects, then the patch (which I absolutely HATED), and now have been trying different pills (Tricyclen, Tricyclen Lo and Femcon) to see what works best for me (I'm now 29) since I plan to take the pill continuously again.
Overall, I'd highly recommend Ortho Lo. I felt great, didn't appear to gain any weight and it made my period very light and as pleasant as possible (if that is possible!). Unfortunately, there is no generic for Lo and with insurance it's still $50/month. However, it's worth the extra money....I mean, who wants to perpertually bleed and feel like crap? Not me.

I'm on my 2nd month of taking Femcon. The first week starting it, I had heart flutters and anxiety, then coinciding with depression and mood swings. I was patient though and all of that subsided. Throughout this entire time, I've had occassional nausea in the first few hours after I wake, but no vomiting. My ankles have been continuously swollen since on it, and I'm generally just bloated, I have to take a water pill to relieve some of it. My breasts have been tender, off and on, since I started taking it.
By the end of the 1st pack, I figured I was ok, I had my last period just a little over a week ago. A week after my cycle had ended, I started spotting, and now in the past 24 hrs I'm heavily bleeding, I'm actually concerned. I'm passing clots, bleeding heavily, having moderate to severe cramps in my lower back area. I'm currently trying to reach my doctor and hoping they'll call me back, since I've had 2 miscarriages in the past, I'm showing signs of a possible miscarriage, but I've been told that the pill will give you symptoms of pregnancy, so I don't know. Any advice on what to do? I believe I will see if the doctor will put me on Estrostep, I took that about 7 years ago and had no problems with it, but the doctor felt that Femcon is more effective against pregnancy. Anyone know what could be happening with me?

On October 5th 2007 I experienced auditory hallucinations but their different than the others. I hear my thoughts directly outside of my head and they repeat the thought continuously until another thought happens. Sometimes their are thoughts that I have previously thought of and they won't go away. It starts from the moment I wake up in the morning until I go to sleep in the evening. Sometimes they sing like a choir and sometimes they talk my thoughts. Children's, women, men, and one old man. Sometimes it's a mechanical voice. I started taking Lamicatal in August. I started with 25 mg. for two weeks. Then I increased it to 50mg for two weeks. Then I increased it to 75 mg for two weeks. Then I increased it to 100mg for two weeks. Then I increased it to 125mg and I took this for one week and that's when these auditory hallucinations got worse. Now I only take 50mg and the auditory hallucinations will not go away yet. Before I started taking Lamictal I was on Cymbalta 20mg. I needed to stop taking this medication as that it caused abdominal pains, severe headaches, nausea, I started hearing other peoples thoughts and conversations. I was only Cymbalta for one year. I never was able to hear peoples thoughts before taking Cymbalta and I never heard hallucinations before taking Lamictal. Years ago I was taking Paxil 20mg and this medication increased the abstract visual dreaming and the zoning out. The reason I started taking Lamicatal was that in the evening while I was sleeping I would sometimes get startled in the middle of the night with abstract visual dreaming and it hurt my head. Also I was zoning out occasionally during the day. Kind of like daydreaming but no visual dreams. Lamicatal did stop this but this side effect is driving me insane.

I had a terrible experience with Mirena, I lasted seven months and I could not bear it any longer as the side effects were too great. I bled continuously for seven months give or take a few days here and there. I also had changes in my vaginal discharge whenever I wasn't bleeding. I became very self conscious and it greatly affected my sex life.Sex was painful at times too as I had unusual pains in my abdomen. My emotions were all over the place and I did start to worry that I had depression as I did not feel like myself at all. I am so relieved now that the Mirena is removed. I could not wait any longer for things to improve as my doctor assured me that they would. There was some trouble with having the Mirena removed as the string had gone up into my uterus. One doctor claimed that she could not do it and referred me to another who had no real trouble in getting out. I had a horrible experience with the Mirena as I did with Depovera. I cannot believe that some people have no trouble with these contraceptions, they are very lucky!

I am 49 years old. I have taken Lisinopril for 8 days. The BP dropped from 175 systolic to 125 in the first two days. Last night I experienced the worst leg cramps ever in my upper thigh and groin area. I frightened my family as I screamed in agony for over an hour. Today I have continuously felt that both legs are going to cramp. I also have arthritis in my knee, which has worsened after needing to immobilize the leg with heat during cramping. My sister suggested the BP medication may have contributed to the cramps, and that's when I found this site. Thank you for all your posts. My meds are going to the police station's collection site tomorrow.

I had my Mirena inserted July 6, 07. Since i have not had any children i was in pain for the first three days after having it inserted (i felt like my insides were being ripped out of me) but that pain has eased since then. I do have occasional cramps and i still spot for a couple days but again i have only had this in for almost two months. To be honest this has been a life saver for me. I had to be taken off of birth control pills because i was at risk for a stroke. I was getting migraines when i was taken off of the pill during the reminder week. Even on the pill i was always hunched over when it came time for my period becuase i was in agonizing pain. I had cramps so bad that 1000 mg would have to be continuously taken just to get the pain numbed just to function at work. With Mirena my life has changed. I am finally getting a sex drive back (which I thought was gone for good), my periods so far have been a blessing because i'm not sick around that time, I haven't gained any weight, my breasts don't swell to a bigger cup size (talk about a natural boob job once a month) but the biggest thing is I haven' t had a migraine since I had it inserted. My boyfriend loves it as much as I do. But i'm just glad to know that the spotting is normal for the first few months. Thanks for all the responses.

I was perscribed Allese about a year ago, but my insurance only covers generic medicine. So i was put on Lutera for about 8 months. Just recently the pharmacist said that my new pill would be Sronyx and honestly, i dont trust it as much. My headaches are becoming very severe and almost a daily occurance now plus i've heard that its not as effective.
my period doesn't come on the sugar-pill days... it always comes about a week before. my doctor reccomended this: continuously taking Sronyx and skipping the sugar-pill days. I move from the end of the white pills on week three right to the beginning of a new pack. lately its helped a lot. the continuousy of it is really helping i think. so thats my suggesting to anyone whos having trouble.

I have been prescribed Omnicef for cystic acne for 9 months. I continuously suffer from vaginal/anul itching. The medication helps alittle with the acne but the itching and burning makes my life a living hell. I will take the medication for a while and then get so fed up with the itching and frequent trips to the bathroom. I thought something was wrong with me. I would not prescribe this to a young child. i am shocked to see so many parents posting their children's symptoms. I can barely stand it, I can only imagine what a child feels like on this medication. Definetly not the greatest antibiotic out there. My dermatologist said it was mild as vaginal itching was something I said I did not want to experience. Unfortunetly I am stuck with it!

I started on lisinopril june 05 for high blood pressure. also, the water pill. At first diziness and light headedness were experienced. This was not more than a week. Until recently all was well. I caught bronchitis,as diagnosed by my doc, at the beginninin g of the year and have had systems off and on since. I"ve dicontinued the drug recently, but still haven't been able to shed the flu like symptom. The worst part has been a feeling in my throat that is like the inside swelling. Sometimes it was hard to swallow and even restricted normal breathing. I found I was not able to talk continuously for short periods of time just before I quit taking it. I'm looking forward to an end of these symptoms and normality again. It's been 2 days and counting since i discontinued using lisinopril. Any good news from anyone

My husband took this medicine after coughing continuously for over a week. Neither one of us was getting any sleep. We tried everything before he went to the doctor. He was prescribed Vi-Q-Tuss. It worked great. Nothing else worked. You have to drink a lot of water for the medicine to work right. It helps the guafenesin do its job. You should not take this medicine unless you are really sick and regular cough suppressants don't work because it is narcotic and can be addictive.

I'm not sure if advair was the cause, but my son has been on advair continuously for 4 years. He recently had an eye exam which showed an increased ocular pressure(24). I looked up the possible causes for this in children and I noticed some info on steroid associated IOP. I wonder if his might be caused from the inhaled steroid.

I'm a 49 yoa ex-smoker with emphysema; smoke free x 5 years. I had 20x15 vision up until I started using Advair. My wife, for the last year or two, has continuously reminded me to stand up straight. Evidently I've developed a slouch.
This morning during an Advair commercial, I heard that side effects can include eye problems and Osteoporosis.
I'm not so sure about this stuff anymore.

This website probably saved my 9-year-old's life. He started taking Singulair in August following three major asthma attacks (his first). When he started having anxiety problems we believed it post traumatic stress as he knew he could have died in August. However the anxiety got much worse.
By November he wouldn't leave me (he had previously been extremely happy and confident). He cried continually and didn't know why. By December he was deeply depressed, wouldn't sleep or go upstairs, was frightened continually but didn't know why. By mid-Jan he had simply had enough and wanted to die. He talked of death continuously.
At that point I found this website and took him off Singualir. Within 2 days, my son who hadn't smiled for 2 months, was running around with the dog smiling, saying how beautiful a sunny day was, and could think without crying. On night five he had terrible withdrawal symptoms, walls and furniture appeared to move, and he screamed to be taken to the hospital as he couldn't control his mind. We sat it out. The next day he was better.
That was five weeks ago. All the fear has gone, all the deep sadness. He went back to sleeping in his own bed on night 7 and hasn't looked back. Yesterday he went back to school having been off for 2 months - only five weeks ago he told me he would die if I left him at school, now he's happy to be back.
This drug is very, very dangerous. I honestly believe if my son had been older he would have committed suicide. I warn every parent out there to watch their children on this drug, it can affect the mind terribly.
The thought of giving Singulair to young children who cannot explain how they feel horrifies me.

I started taking Advair when my Dr. prescribed it for a bout with bronchitis and it worked very well. Then another bout of coughing and it went well again. Finally, as part of an asthma maintenance plan Advair was prescribed twice a day (250/50.) Every time its used I gargle until the Listerine burns. And about two months into use my voice started getting hoarse. Now (with about 9 months into regular use) my voice rarely lasts longer than a five minute conversation, there's lots of hacking phlegm, and my throat is continuously sore from the coughing.
The ability to breathe without my chest feeling tight and the wheezing is gone on high pollution days, but this hoarseness is causing people to not hear me on the phone, conversations at work are stifled, and its becoming a life-style to learn to avoid talking. I'm going to begin trying to get off of Advair permanently and find another asthma maintenance medication.

I started taking yasmin last august--continuously for 4 or 5 months because that was recommended to me for very bad cramps and vomiting during my period. towards the end of september i began having chronic diarrhea, which continues to this present day (february 11th). in january and february i gave myself a break on the pillpack in order to have a period and see if my diarrhea would stop. i've been to a specialist several times about my intestinal problems--i had a colonoscopy and an upper G.I. examination. everything was normal, so i'm beginning to wonder if it's just a side effect of yasmin. i've told every single doctor that i'm taking yasmin, and nobody seems to think it could be giving me chronic diarrhea. i'm quitting the pills this month, but i'm afraid of my severe cramps. does anybody recommend the IUD called Mirena? i'm trying to consider other options...

I have been taking 20 mg. Lipitor for so many months now and continuously experiencing sore muscles and my wrist seems to have arthritis. I have told all these symptoms to my cardiologists and just told me it is not from lipitor. Iam a Veterinarian and I am not convinced with his response. The only good thing is that he is monitoring my blood chem and my cholesterol is within normal level. I am taking antioxidants (cod liver oil,Vit C and E,Mg,CoQ10,Chromium) and lots of olives and nuts. I am also taking those expensive drug- acid reflux and BP lowering drugs. I stopped using Lipitor for 7 days now and will go organic.

I have been using the ring for about 9 months. I have used it both as directed - 3 wk in, 1 wk out - and continuously for 3 months at a time. My 'side' effects have been: (1) vaginal discharge, which took a little getting used to but is actually an improvement over the extreme dryness I had with Orthotricyclin pills. (2) noticibly fuller breasts with occasional tenderness, mostly in the 3rd week. (3) Finally, my periods are so light on the ring, it's almost spooky - I'm glad to read here that this is not uncommon. Overall, I'd say the ring suits me well. Notably, I haven't experienced any changes in mood. Good luck to all of you out there who are trying to find the right BC!

I was put on low dose prednisone 6 days ago for poison ivy. I took 8 pills first day, 6 2nd day, 4 third day, 3 5th day, 2 6th day and then one today and one tomorrow. Short-term use, but feel I would have rather suffered the itching and severe rash! My heart is racing almost all the time, breathing is rapid, feeling of excitement most of the day, however, also fatigued. Weight gain of 2# and my belly feels like it has a lead basketball in it - although I can eat continuously. Heartburn has reappeared in my life despite being on 2 different medications for this already. Yesterday I began feeling life is surreal - real clear and unusual. I feel for those of you who have to be on it for lengths of time. This is one nasty drug that I wish they could refine the side effects of SOON.

HELP!! I have been on Yasmin for a year and 3 months now I take it continuously (no period). Prior to that I was on DepoProvera for 5 years and had no period and loved it, but it causes osteoporosis so I had to switch. I have would have some light spotting once in awhile but now I have been spotting for 3 weeks and have cramps in my lower back. Working out or running only makes it heavier. I have also had anxiety.Dr. said I might need to switch to a pill with more estrogen. but Depo is Progesterone only and I had no problems while on it. I have tried to research but have not found a pill with Progesterone higher than Yasmin and I have also seen conflicting reports on the effects of Estrogen and Progesterone on Anxiety. and have read that Progesterone is what stopps bleeding.Need to make a decision on a new pill asap Dr appt is TOMORROW! Any one have any names I can suggest to the Dr.?

I have been on birth control for about 4 years now. Four years ago, I was diagnosed with Endometriosis the worst stage there could possibly be. I have been on the Ovcon 50 for 2 years this birth control has helped me keep the endometriosis under control. However, since I started taking this birth control I started noticing a lot of changes in my body, I gained about 15 lbs, I have terrible headaches, break through bleeding, fatigue, very moody, bloated, and the worst is the lack of sex drive . I mean, it is completely gone. I can only blame this on the Ovcon. I made an appointment to talk to my doctor about this situation because it is something that is ruining my personal life.
I forgot to mention that I am on this pill continuously; I do not have periods, so the break through bleeding is normal.
My partner and I have been trying to figure out what has caused me to become who I am now. I blame this on the Ovcon and when I go see my Doctor, I am asking him to give me a different type of birth control. When I look back, I see that since I started the Ovcon 50 my life has changed, I was trying to blame this on my Endometriosis. I am 100% sure; Ovcon is causing me all the side effects I have. I would not recommend anyone to take this pill

I've been on Yasmin for one full month now (without a break...I take it continuously). The first couple of weeks I experienced a lot of nausea (to the point of vomiting sometimes) and breast tenderness. That has all subsided. I'm just waiting for my skin to clear up, the main reason why I wanted to try this pill. Fingers crossed. So far, no improvement.

It's apparent that each birth control pill will effect each woman differently. Each pill insert states that the side effects of taking the specific OC may cause "depressed mood". I've been on Yasmin for 6 days, I was on Brenda/Diane for 3 months (which I had horrible side effects on, even though my friend had none). This forum has completely freaked me out, along with many, many other people.
Why not, instead of continuously disecting Yasmin, suggest something we can try that will not cause these side-effects?
I'm presuming the reason this hasn't occured yet is because each pill will have a different effect on each intaker. You are a very minute proportion of the people who have been perscribed Yasmin. Please stop generalising. People only ever talk about problems they experience, why would anyone suffer the craving to find a forum to boast or skite about a pill. It doesn't happen.
I don't think you realise the effect this forum is having on women.
Have you ever considered that maybe people are impressionable?.. and that these symptoms are only noticed /after/ they have been talked of.
People are talking themselves into something nonexistant.
..
Stop scaring people.

I have been taking 20 mmg of prednisone three times a day. I'm taking it for lupus, and I have gained over 10 pounds in a week. It makes me feel wonderful, but I hate the side effects. I am gaining so much weight, my face is so fat and people continuously ask me if I'm pregnant. Also it stops me from staying asleep but not from going to sleep. However, that doesn't bother me so much.

This is my first week on Loestrin 24 FE as well as my first experience with BC. I really hope my side effects go away, as I do not think I will be able to continue taking it if they don't. I have turned into a complete insomniac - can't sleep and I am tired the entire day. I have random headaches and a complete loss of appetite. I continuously feel as though I'm about to get my period - bloated, achy, moody - even though I just had it. I feel like I'm gaining weight even though I'm eating 1/4 of what I used to. I really don't know what to do. I was taking it at night, but figured I should try taking it earlier because my sleep cycle is completely off. Does anyone have any suggestions?
