I was diagnosed with asthma as a child. In late teens it seemed to not be problem, however after 50, I started developing symptoms of asthma again as evidenced from COPD tests. I am currently using Advair 250/50 since 55 yo.

One symptom, that I have not seen addressed here is that of "slow healing" after injuries. I injured my back awhile ago, and it seemed like 2 years before most of my symptoms were gone. To this day I still feel lingering effects. Then I scraped my shinbone. It seemed like it took forever to heal, and now there is an ugly red/purple scar where the minor scrape was.

I had never taken so long to heal before, and read that this was a problem with taking Advair. I never figured my asthma was that serious in the first place, so I simply cut back on the Advair to once/day or less as it seems still to keep my breathing OK. Sometimes, after a few days of not taking Advair, I feel some minor difficulty with breathing.

Now that I am 63, and so concerned about "slow healing", which I attribute to Advair, I have asked my Dr. to perhaps take me off Advair and simply take Albuterol when needed. Then I read that Asthma patients should only use Albuterol if that is sufficient to control symptoms and to advance to Advair to control more severe symptoms. Another article says that Albuterol does not heal Asthma, only assists with sudden onset of breathing difficulties and that I may still damage my lungs if I do not take Advair.

I remain at a loss as to what is best: Taking Albuterol when needed (perhaps a few to several times/week) or as I was doing before, contrary to recommended dosage, of 1-2 times/day. Fortunately my Dr. goes along with my changes, but tells me if symptoms get worse, she will put me on Advair 2X's/Day (which I probably will ignore dosage because of healing side effects, and use once/day or less).

I will report back later after trying Albuterol for time without the use of Advair at all.

Hello All -

I just wanted to update everyone on how I am feeling after getting OFF Yaz. I feel like my old self again! Thank you God! The mood swings are gone, the sadness is gone, the upset stomach, back pain, calf cramps... just all the physical and mental pain is gone and I finally feel good again.

After my 16 year old told me she is sexually active with her boyfriend, I took her immediately for an exam and birth control. The OB/GYN wanted to give her Yaz and I said HELL NO, and then told her about all my troubles. She was shocked and said No one she has given it to has had any issues. Which to that I said, that’s odd since there is a website where there are numerous posts to the contrary.

For anyone considering this drug, PLEASE read all the posts on this site and think long and hard if you really want to take the chance on having any of these terrible 'side effects' happening to you or someone you love.

I've only been on Effexor for about a month; 75 mg daily. The only "bad" side effect I've felt so far is that I feel the room is too warm, even when others are okay with the temperature. The "good" side effect, contrary to what so many have posted here, is that for the first time in my life (I'm in my mid 40s), I am NOT having nightmares/night terrors. I've been plagued by these all my life, anywhere from several a night (during really bad spells) to a few a week (during good spells). For the last month, since getting on Effexor, I have not had a single nightmare and I've slept soundly, without waking up either paralyzed with fear, screaming, or thrashing about in the bed.

I LOVE NUVARING!!! I've been using it for over a year, usually keeping it in for a month then replacing it with a new one to avoid having a period. I sometimes have some spotting at the end of the month; then I just take out the ring and have a full period and put in a new ring one week later. I have none of the problems with mood swings that others have posted - on the contrary, I no longer have PMS symptoms.

However, during those rare menstrual periods, I sometimes pass a few thumbprint-sized pieces of an unusual MEMBRANOUS BROWN TISSUE-LIKE SUBSTANCE (cap'd to draw attention). No other symptoms.

Has anyone else experienced this? My nurse practitioner hasn't had any other patients mention it and she can't think of what it could be (uterine lining??).

Both of our children have been taking Singulair since the ages of 2 & 3 due to severe indoor/outdoor allergies. One is now 8 & the other is 5. They have never experienced any side effects. On the contrary, this medicine has helped them. They are now able to play outdoors without breathing problems and are able to sleep through the night without coughing. Our son is enjoying playing baseball & soccer and our daughter enjoys dancing. They are both very athletic, outgoing and bright in school. They have their 'normal' fits that are part of being children. People actually have commented on how well behaved they are for their ages. We feel blessed that our children have thrived on this medication and hope that others have also benefited from it. I pray that the families with children having the side effects are able to find something that can help them and we hope that if there are other contributing factors for the children's behavior that they be addressed and remedied.

I was prescribed Effexor while attending Uni. My depression was negatively effecting my academic performance and on the edge of getting my scholarship withdrawn, I continued (as a requirement from the board) with Effexor despite its side effects. I advised my counselor but he insisted I continue as it would "get better." On the contrary my self-esteem took a dive, I became way more suicidal, I felt like there were an army of ants crawling under my skin, I was "emotionally numb"....more like I could feel so many emotions at once and in such great magnitude, I felt like I was going to explode....and I did....through slashing my forearm and wrists. I felt like I could breathe when I did that....then I would just return to my bed and lay there....lost.

I finally decided to stop medicating, I gave up my scholarship and returned home. The moment I set foot on home ground I didn't know where to start or even if I was going to get a job; but I did, a great job for someone without any degree/diploma....for starters anyway. One day I sat down looking out to the sunset and recalled my days of depression. I beat myself up inside with the realization that I had ALLOWED myself to go be depressed. I realized that it is beatable, it really is in our control; mind over matter! I'm not going to lie, it does creep up at one time or another and I do still feel an imbalance in my emotions, but I find the critical step is to just STOP whatever I'm doing, go out for some fresh air, and remind myself that I have come so far without Effexor and other anti-depressants I've been prescribed with, and I remind myself that I CONTROL what goes on in my mind, and thus my body.

Again, it is still challenging at times, but I have decided not to let depression rob me of a happy and fruitful life, and its been great so far.

It has been just amazing reading these posts. I'm headed to my allergist to discuss other options and I wanted to be as educated as possible before hand because I feel for sure he's going to think I'm crazy.

I took Advair 250 for the first half of last year and I notice weight gain and feeling lethargic. I thought the lethargy was just normal stress. In September my dose was bumped to 500 and by November I was so depressed I started seeing a therapist. I kept asking her "Why is this happening to me now?? I have no reason to be here!" She gave me all the typical answers about clinical depression.

We went skiing over the holidays and I forgot my disk. I noticed immediately that I felt better. Happy for the first time in months. I thought it was because I was on vacation. When we returned, I started my dose again and guess what??? Within 3 days I could barely get out of bed again - and that's when it hit me - this wasn't mental. It came on so quick and was so contrary to my mental state that it was literally like getting sick. I suddenly made the connection and threw that stupid disk in the trash. I immediately started feeling better and I'm saving a ton of money on bills from the shrink.

I am taking Cephalexin monohydrate 500 mg 4x a day for the treatment of recurring boils in different areas of the same part. Since taking it, I have experienced, contrary to others on this site, serious constipation, in addition, dry mouth and slightly sluggish. I aslo experience some stomach upsetness almost like nausea. But the most uncomfortable feeling is the constipation.

I have been on Yasmin for a month and a half after not being on birth control pills for 5 years because I didn't like the side effects (tried ortho tri-cyclen, loestre, alesse). As soon as I started the pill my breasts swelled noticeably (my boyfriend and friends commented on it). Contrary to what they said, my face started breaking like crazy. I also am a lot more hungry all the time???

I now have a new side effect. I was doing a breast exam and clear fluid leaked from my breast!!! Scary. I called the doctor and got tested for pregnancy and a pituitary problems. Both negative. I asked if this could be a side effect of the pill since it has never happened before. She said she has never seen this. Either way I am getting off after this month. Not sure what to try now.

Has anyone seen clear fluid leak from their breast as a result of birth control?
