I have been on Yasmin for 2 years and i was recently diagnosed with an eye disease called keratoconus which is loss of vision and cornea problems and Yasmin might have been the cause of it. I also have had excessive weight gain that i can get rid of, depression, sleeping problems, and hair loss. I am concerned because i do not know if it is healthy to just stop taking birth control but i don't want to do more harm to my body.

I have two experiences with Prednisone to share: I am a 52 year old woman, married, no kids. One year ago I came down with a serious case of shingles on the top and inside of my left eyelid. What started out as a bump that looked like a pimple or a bite on a Friday afternoon (and I don't have acne), spread across and under my eyelid by Mon, morning, up into my eyebrow and down the side of my nose. My eye felt like there was glass in it every time I blinked. I got to the doctor on Mon, the dermatologist on Tues and the opthamologist on Wed. All confirmed shingles. I have never felt anything to excruciating in my life! The dermatologist prescribed a 3-week descending dose of Pred starting with 6 pills a day. I was also given Gabapentin (a nerve blocked), Acyclovir, a muscle relaxant, pain medication and two separate eye drops, one of which was also low-dose Pred. After the 3 week course of treatment was done, I had to continue for another week, but with lower doses.
Side effects: I did not notice any side effects except that my appetite was seriously jacked up! I ate anything and everything -- and then some! Food was my best friend and I hogged everything in site! In hindsight, when I try to assess myself and any changed, I guess I do have some attitude issues in that I am quicker to anger, quicker to react and respond and seem to "snap" a lot quicker.... Oh yeah I am also on antidepressants.... I now have one droopy eyelid due to the nerve damage from the Shingles and permanent damage to the cornea and tear ducts.... However I am not really sure how much of that is due to the Shingles and how much is due to the Prednisone.
My 89-year old mother was hospitalized in August for emphysema and chronic lung disease, she was down to 81 lbs. They treated & released her and she was on a descending dose of Prednisone for a week. She needed to gain some weight & gained 3 lbs! This was very good.... She is still smoking and her doctor will NOT insist she quit (I think they have given up). They put her back on a 2-week course of Pred again last week. Her appetite is back up Yeah! but she has some serious attitude and anger issues. We are only 1 week into the 2 weeks and I don't know how our family is going to stand taking care of this evil old woman during this Prednisone treatment, and afterwards. I'm sorry I ever let the doctor put her back on it--- however she is gaining weight and getting (falsely) stronger, which she needed.

I've been on Xalatan for 10 months. At first I had only red eyes, but after two months my vision got blurred. So I got new glasses. One month later I needed new glasses again. The cornea began to swell and finally I had a macular edema. After having stopped using the drug, my vision still remained bad.
Why on earth do doctors still prescribe Xalatan???

I was put on Prednisonsone for Uveitis, inflammation of the eye. He started me on 20mg at 9 pills a day, then each week it was lowered to 6 pills then now i'm on 3 pills and then next week it will be 1 1/2 pill and i'll be off. I got the puffy face, my feet swelled, everytime i hate my stomach bloated and hurt, my face and neck turns red, i stayed hungry although i fought the temptation of eating for not wanting to gain a lot of weight, which I don't think I've gained any. But now I wake up in the middle of the night and severe knee pain, it feels like my knees they are in some kind of device that is crushing my bones they hurt so bad. i caught a bad cough and it's been around now for about 2 weeks and won't go away, i told the nurse about it and she says, i probably just got what everyone else has gotten, just a bad cough, well what's if it's some kind of infection? I look like a chipmunk, my face is so puffy. When i get off these prednisone in another week I WON'T BE going back on them, no matter what the case. I'm in more pain being on them and have more side effects while on them than the problem i was having with uveitis. I think some co workers thank I'm over reacting, but they're not here they don't see all the pain and frustration i'm going through while on this drug. The leg pain just started this weekend and i Know i can't deal with waking up everynight like this in severe pain. Everyone just makes me feel like i'm over reactin and it's nice to know that somebody out there is going through the same thing. Any comments will be great.

every time I use Econopred plus drops I get a white spot or white string
inside of my eye. I had a corneal transplant Jan. 30,2008. This spot or
string is always on the bottom of my cornea and it doesn't move. I got
it off today with a tissue, but don't want to touch my eye if I don't have
to. I have another spot, same place, tonight.
I always shake the bottle before using the drops. Anyone else having
this problem?

Has anyone else had problems wearing contact lenses with Yasmin? I've been on it for about three years now -- about a year ago my eyes started completely rejecting my contact lenses. I'm at the point where I can't wear them anymore. I'm thinking of changing to a different medication to see if that helps, but I don't know if it's just my eyes, the Yasmin, or all birth control. I know there is a definite connection, I've done some research. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?

I experienced complete Loss of hearing in my left ear for 24 hours & stopped taking the Vioxx at the first sign of a problem.
A Blister also appeared on my left eye near my cornea the following day. Of course I went to both an eye specialist and hearing specialist to see if they could identify the problem. Neither doctor could figure out why this happened and would not admit that Vioxx might have been the culprit.
My pharmacist is the only one that thought the loss of hearing could have been a side effect caused by Vioxx. I had only been taking it for less than one week at the time both problems occured. I also had some of the usual side effects before the hearing and blister happened.

Hi there. I started levaquin again today because i am having bronchial pnemonia. I have 250, 500, and 750 mg stocked at home, because i have taken this medication a LOT this last year for chronic kidney infections due to kidney stones that keep popping up.
For me, levaquin works great, with NO side effects on any type of dosage, except for the occasional tiredness. I am 23 years old. I would just like to say that i believe the benefits outweight the risks in the case of this drug, unless you are have horrible reactions such as rashes, losing hearing and sight etc which have been described. For the eye sight problem, if i was you i would SERIOUSLY find out if levaquin is really the cause for that, it doesnt make much sense how a drug designed to kill bacteria could actually interfere with cornea and eye functions, seems like there might be a possibility of some underlying and unrelated problem with the eye but seriously i wouldnt know. Just wanted to say that for me, this anti biotic has been a life saver, right now i just took me dose about an hour ago so i wont see any improvements soon but i feel like crap. My chest hurts, i cant stop coughing, fever etc i really hope this will lower my fever. I cant find any cough medicine at the store that is helping me i dont know how i will sleep tonight. =(

This is not so much a side effect but I had a question and I was wondering if you would be able to answere it for me.If you are not able to do this you can viod this email.
yesterday my brother went to the doctor because of a lot of discomfort he was having with his eye after a game of basketball he played the night before {resulting in a blow to his eye}. the doctor told him he had an abrasion on his cornea. They prescribed him an ointment that he has been using but because of all the pain he still feels, his friend had some proparacaine hydrochloride ophthalmic solution USP,0.5% and let my brother try it. It worked well at releiving the pain {even if for a short amount of time}, so he has been using it ever since. Is this something that can be used freely like that or is it for doctors use only. Any information you can provide on this would be very helpful. Thank you for your time. ~Rebecca ***

I started this pill about 3 weeks ago. I started having eye pain after about a week and for the past 2 weeks, have had severe blurred vision. I unfortunately did not link my symptoms to the pill until yestereday and have been seeing an eye specialist who also did not make the connection. My cornea's are enflammed and have been on steroids for this for the past week with no improvement. I am now stopping this pill and hope my vision returns back to normal soon. I have also experienced stomach pain and indigestion as well as depression- which I thought was linked to my vision problems but now I question that too. I am forwarding this site onto my OBGYN- I think the Dr.'s need to be more informed and careful in prescribing this pill.

Hey people, I'm glad that I found this posting myself! I've battled depression/anxiety for the past couple of years but thought I had gotten. Then I was Rx'd doxy 100mg twice a day for my cornea in my eye not working based on a clogged gland. Since I've been taking it I have been sick to my stomach (OK I new that was coming) and have had hot flashes and sensitivity to light (didn't see that but OK), and yesterday I felt totally detached from rational thinking. I felt nervous all day, was a bit light headed, and battled a bad case of depressive thinking. Today has been a bit better but I worry about this feeling returning. I need to continue taking the meds for I need to be able to see clearly. Has anyone else felt 'nervous w/hot flashes' while on doxy? I'm also taking fish oil omega-3 but it hasn't ever affected me like that.
