I took Lisinopril for one month. Within two days of taking the med, I began to cough violently all day. The children has colds and the pollen here was flying so I didn't think of it being the medicine. There was much mucous produced. I often vomited because of the coughing. I saw my doc's partner after 7 days of coughing and was diagnosed with bronchitis and given an inhaler and a z-pack. I had to have a cough drop in my mouth at all times even while sleeping to get somewhat of a break. I just thought I was going to start coughing one day and choke to death. Currently my right hip joint is so stiff and painful. My finger joints were mildly affected but are now fine. I have been off Lisinopril for 10 days now. The cough is not all day but still present and can be quite violent. The joint pain and stiffness are still present. I aches when at rest. My mobility is quite impacted. I am afraid that I am going to fall. Getting up from sitting is painful and often feels impossible. I'm a 44 year old woman with a 9 and 11 year old. I have plenty to do!!! This drug was toxic for me. I don't feel as if I'll ever be the same. I have got to get my hip back.

I was prescribed 10 mg of lisinopril in late July. My doctor offhandedly mentioned I'll probably be back to see her, because I'll think I have a cold and a cough. I laughed it off and went on my merry way. The cough started about 3 weeks later, and got worse and worse. I felt like I had something stuck in the right side of my throat. I was exhausted from coughing all day, and being kept awake at night (this could have been from either the cough, or the couch I was exiled to, when my husband couldn't sleep through my coughing) I work in a library, and I think I drove everyone crazy with the coughing. Nothing seemed to help. I constantly had a cough drop in my mouth and a bottle of water in my hand. I felt like everyone was always staring at me, wondering what in the world was I doing out in public when I was so sick. I never felt sick, just exhausted...and coughing. One of my coworkers finally asked me what meds I was taking, and when she heard lisinopril, she insisted I call my doctor and ask if there was something else I could take. She had the same symptoms last year, along with extreme sun sensitivity, and various other problems. My doctor switched me to Avapro. It's been 10 days now. My cough is slowly going away, and my bp is doing great. I have not met anyone who has had good results on this medication. I know I sure didn't.

It's 315 in the morning, I am up again for the....Wow, I can't remember when I had a good night sleep. I started taking this drug on December 5, 2004, when I was admitted into the hospital for Congestive Heart Failure. I am 29 years old, and I am seriously contemplating suicide. I have been to my doctor many times for this cough. The first time, they said the cough was caused from my smoking. So I quit. Then when it did not go away they tell me it's because I quit smoking(ironic huh?) So it still didn't go away. I went back to the doctor, and they gave me Nexium for Acid Reflux. Of course that didn't work. On Valentine's Day I had a diffibrulator inplanted in my chest, and a week ago today I had my staples removed. While the nurse was removing them I mentioned my cough to her. She tells me that Lisinopril is the cause. I stopped taking it that day. My cough is still here. I need the cough to go away. I have 4 kids, and I am only 29. I am too young to die. Someone please tell me that this cough will go away soon. I am so tired of not sleeping. I can't even go any where because people treat me like a leper. I can't talk to any one on the phone because I can't stop coughing for longer than 1 minute. Nothing works, trust me I have tried EVERYTHING. I bought every single OTC medication on the market. I drove an hour to go to an alternative medicine shop for drugs they claimed would help me. I even ordered chinese medicine on the internet, and nothing works. I keep a cough drop in my mouth 24 hours a day, and even sleep with it in my mouth. No one I know understands what it is I am going through. My husband laughs at me when I break down and cry. My kids don't know what's going on with me. I would give my right arm for this cough to go away. It does give me some comfort to know that I am not alone in wishing horrible torment to the creator of this pill. At least someone knows what I am going through. Thanks to the creator of this web site.

i just made the latest entry (about the coughing) and don't want to sound like a hypochondriac but i am realizing some other effects that i've had the are most likely associated with this drug that i had never had before taking it. hair loss is one of them. but also about once or twice a day (usually about 8 hours after taking it) i get this overwhelming urge to throw up, i don't have nausea but for about 5 minutes my mouth will water and i have to fight it to not vomit. this is difficult because it sometimes happens at work and i have to use all my power to control it. i take a cough drop and try to concentrate on other things. also, the glands in my throat/neck are huge golf balls and can get very uncomfortable.

I took Lisinopril 10 mg for about 10 days. My doc had told me that 5% of those tested developed an itchy cough, and to stop if this happened to me. I stopped as soon as the cough developed. That was more than a week ago. I haven't been able to get a night's sleep since then. The cough is dry and hacking and continuous. Coughing can also come at any time during the day. Sometimes a coughing attack hits when I already have a cough drop in my mouth.
I feel just the same as I've felt when experiencing a sinus infection, with nighttime drainage and sinus headache.
When I called the doctor's office, I was advised to take an over-the-counter cough med. It hasn't helped. I am exhausted.
This seems to be a case of the "cure" being worse than the initial problem.
