i got a bad sinus infection for the past month after starting lisinopril, on many meds for this, i switched from avapro to lisinopril as i wanted to join the walgreens plan for cheaper drugs, the doc put me on lisinopril instead after i sent him the walgreens list of available drugs that they use, the avapro was not on the list,, ive been to my ent and allergy doc for this sinuse thing that is well over a month now and getting better, but i have spent more $ for drugs to combat this infection that r not on the walgreens list over $300 spent out of pocket but with a discount for switching to the lisinopril from the avapro that ive been on for about a yr,, it was not worth it,, BUT my cardio doctor thinks it ws just a coincidence that i got the sinus infection about the same week that i started lisinopril, he asked me to tell my ent and allergy doc about this, the ent thinks i shld go back to the avapro if ii feel that it may have started the infection with the little cough, i have not talked to my allergy doc about it yet, has anyone felt they got these symptoms with lisinopril????? i am still taking it all thru this sinus thing, MRI and 2 inhalers and antibiotics, narcotic cough med, sinus wash and musilex r doing ok and on the mend, i have no other symptoms and on the 5 mg , what do u all think? and anyone else have a sinus thing going on when starting the lisinopril??? D.

I have had a persistent cough, so have been sucking on a lot of menthol cough drops. Now I have erosion of my stomach lining. Just wondering if the cough drops may have caused that?

My Doctor said I needed a different BP med since my pressure while on my diovan was 150/80. Lisinopril was so much cheaper than diovan and I was happy to not be paying 1.00 per pill for diovan. I never had one side effect from Diovan but I believe that all the symptoms I have been having in the last 12 days is because of Lisinopril. I started Lisinopril on 8/20 and by Oct 1st I was in bad health. First I had the cough start, I have coughed so much I walked around with cough drops in my mouth all the time trying to keep from coughing. Coughing kept me awake at night. Sometimes I would cough so much I would start choking and start gagging. Then 12 days ago I started have pin pricks on the bottom of my feet and horrible cramps in my feet and legs. Then I started having the dizzy feeling that would come and go. Sometimes I would get so dizzy while sitting down that I felt like I was about to pass out. It felt like blackness was creeping in on me and my vision would start to go black. I had terrible pain in my back on my left side and suffocations feelings in my neck. My doctor never even brought up that maybe I was suffering from side effects from this BP med. instead he sent me for a heart echo and stress test. With a heart monitor used for 24 hours also. Cardiologist said everything looked fine. I told him that I had just been put on Lisinopril about 30 days ago but he never said maybe that could be the problem. I don't understand how any Dr can be so uninformed about a medicine. Why didn't anyone mention that what I was feeling could be medicine induced. I have been scared to death I was having a heart attack or had a blocked artery and was going to stroke. Unbelievable to me. I am so glad I found this website. It validates what I was thinking. I stopped the lisinopril yesterday when a friend said his dad had symptoms like mine when taking this BP med.
Actually felt better today, no passing out feeling, felt like cleaning my house again. And the cough is almost non existent tonight. I changed myself back to my diovan since I had a few left and will talking to my doctor Monday about all this.

My son, who just turned 14 this month, was on Singulair for over 2 years.
He was diagnosed with reactive airway disease and possibly Asthma--and prescribed this awful drug-even back in 2004. The doctor said how wonderful this med was and prevents any further attacks.. So, for 2 years-every night, he took this mood altering, destructive drug. He lost all interest in school, his athletics-soccer, skateboarding, biking..in fact became almost a vacant , very unhappy, child-had stomach aches, joint pains and reflux--why--I brought him to the doctor and Pediatric center so frequently--all they kept saying his --his asthma is better, much be other issues...Even after the March 2008 suicide--his doctor said-that is just an isolated incident-just monitor him--It is a good drug. Right, month by month his behavior escalated to wanting to die, no reason to go to school-he said he was stupid and a failure and why don't I understand there is no reason to his life. A usually happy fun-loving boy -my son- didn't want to live. Nothing made him happy-I started to believe what the doctors said--maybe something or someone at school (bully, pedophile??) caused this change. Terrible nightmares and vivid dreams...Until this past July, I asked him want to go to the library for some books or dvd's...he went ballistic-threw everything off his computer desk and tried to break his chair. He is not an aggressive boy but this behavior was becoming a daily issue. Along with everything flying off his table, was his bottle of Singulair pills. It then dawned on me..I have been poisoning my only son. The child I know and love and gave birth to returned within a few days--although I am worried sick about further asthma attacks --all the doctors can prescribe is a steroid drug-asthmex or Pulmicort.. I cannot understand nor comprehend why this drug is being prescribed for children and young adults. The guilt I live with is terrible as my son has lost 2 years of his life--
and thought there was something really wrong with him-At least we woke up---in time--how about some other parents..thinking it's just normal adolescent behavior for their child or their fault???

I am a 62 yo female who was prescribed Lisinopril in February. Within a week I had such a continuous horrible dry, hacking cough that I trouble communicating with others. This cough was particularly bad during the night. I have had to live with water and cough drops as my constant companions. I can honestly say that I have only slept through the night once from February until last night. My PCP finally decided that I did not have a sinus infection and that a codeine based cough medicine was not the answer and switched me from Lisinopril to Avapro on Monday, June, 2nd. According to my PCP it could take up to a week for the cough to go away.

Doctor prescribed 10 mg. Lisinopril four months ago for borderline HBP. Since then I have suffered from an itchy rash, chest and shoulder pain , extreme fatigue , low concentration and memory loss , a dry cough so annoying that I live on cough drops and a strange feeling in my throat like a lump is always there , and most recently I have developed pain and swelling in the lymph nodes under my armpits. I also have dizzy spells so bad that I have almost fainted a couple of times. Once it was so bad that I could not even get out of bed. I am convinced that it is the Lisinopril because I did not have these problems before I started taking it. I am going to stop taking this poison and see a Naturopathic Practitioner. I have recently read that fish peptides also called bonito peptides have been used successfully in treating HBP and is a safe and natural alternative to those Pharma drugs that cause so much misery. I will keep you posted.

I was prescribed 5 mg. Lisinopril at the end of September. It took a couple of months for the cough to develop but it came on very suddenly and uncontrollably. I would have to bring bottled water and cough drops with me everywhere because it would come on so quickly. The doctor said it was bronchitis and prescribed zithromax. Still no relief from the cough. I was also having lightheadedness, joint pain and numbness in my fingers. I went back to the doctor after another month of coughing and was prescribed more zithromax and tussionex cough medicine ($50 a bottle) and was diagnosed with a winter cold even though I told the doctor I had no cold symptoms. I called the doctor after finishing the antibiotics and told her the cough was still the same. She wanted to give me yet another dose of zithromax which I said I didn't want because I did not feel sick and did not want to keep taking antibiotics so she told me she would give me an RX for allergy medicine which I never picked up. At this point I was so upset I went for a second opinion and was immediately taken off the Lisinopril. It took a little more than 2 weeks but the cough and all the other symptoms have now completely disappeared. I trusted this doctor but my body was telling me that something was not right and I'm glad I finally found out it was the lisinopril.

Thank goodness I typed in "Dry cough "and "gag." I found this site and now I know WHY I can't seem to get over this "cold."
I've been on lisinopril for about 3.5 weeks and I was beginning to think I had suddenly developed allergies. I get this terrible tickle and I try to fight it, because I know once I start coughing, it will take a while to settle down again. My eyes water, my head throbs, and I reach a point of nearly gagging. In addition, I get to deal with the added pleasures of menopausal stress incontinence. I'm MISERABLE!
I've been needing to schedule an MRA for another non-related issue, and I have been putting it off due to concerns about being in the MRI machine and not being able to catch my breath.
Thanks to all of your input here, I'm calling my doctor tomorrow. Enough is enough!

The Cough is so severe with the drainage until I have to sleep sitting up. I notice I have stomach problem nausea a lot and it is hard to get to sleep insomnia. When I finally sleep it is interrupt from the cough and the drainage. I have so much drainage from my sinus. It is

Since I finally found out the source of the problem, what can I do to get this medication out of my system fast? If anybody have any suggestion so that I can get some relief from the cough and the drainage please advise.

I took the horrible drug for five weeks. I have been to the doctor 3 times. They gave me anti-biotics and said I had brochitis. I have a terrible sounding cough and mucus, I missed over two weeks of work and sent alot of money on medicine. I stopped taking Lisinopril 10 days ago, I feel better but not 100%. My doctor says that if will take a while for the cough to go away. I so mad because I really believed I was dying and took chest x-rays and a TB test. My boyfriend has been giving my dirty looks, and guess he think he going to catch somethimg This medicine has ruined my summer and my vacation, because I'm afraid that I will gave a coughing attack so I stay close to home or if I do go out I keep cough drops and cough syrup in my purse. I feel like a drug addict.

Both my wife and I were prescribed Vi-Q-Tuss. It stopped the cough when we both took it the first morning. I had no noticable side effects, my wife said she was nauseas and dizzy. We both took it before going to bed, and both of us woke with nausea, dizziness, headache, and sweating that lasted most of the morning. We're not going to take this anymore, I would rather choke with the cough. Instead I took, and recomend, Fishermans Friend cough drops to help with the cough..... if you can stand the taste.

I have experienced the coughing side effect and have found chewing gum helps it subside, better than cough drops, or drinking or eating something.
I wondered if anyone had experienced any kind of anorexic effect with this drug. My appetite has changed dramatically (I'm not complaining) in that it's much less, I'm not compelled to eat and when I do eat, my capacity is much, much less. Like I said, I'm not complaining, but it would be interesting to know if Lisinopril is the cause.

Hello, I was placed on Lisinopril in August /05. In October I got what I thought was the flu. Really sick. I had a really bad cough , fever, aches etc. The cough would not go away. Finally In March I decided to go off the Lisinopril to see if that was the culprit. After two weeks I still had the cough and my BP was up. So I started back on the drug. The cough became worse! I decided to try stopping it again. I have now been off of it 9 days, I am still coughing, but I am not going back on the LIsinopril. I am a Gospel singer, and it is really hard to
to sing with this cough . You should try giving a concert with cough drops in your mouth! The cogh is really bad. I cough so hard I almost throw up. Like the cough you get with bad bronchitis, but I does not go away.

After being newly diagnosed with diabetes, Lisinopril was Rx'd to increase the function with my kidneys, to slow the protein loss. That is when I began experiencing a non functional cough. It has become an irritating event that begins suddenly and occurs randomly. It is short in duration and responds to losenges or sugar free cough drops. I wish I had this information at the outset! Looking for an alternative to this med as I do alot of public speaking and have meetings and it is quite embarrassing to begin coughing for no reason.

Oh my goodness! I have been on Lisinopril now for 2 months. I got a cold about a month ago which has long since disappeared. But I continue to have this awful cough that just won't go away, and the tickle is getting more and more frequent and practically unbearable when it comes on suddenly. I seem to be constantly sucking on cough drops and taking cough medicine. The only thing that really relieves it temporarily is to drink a lot of water. I thought it must be something else, but now I'm getting suspicious of the Lisinopril after reading the other comments here.

I have been taking Lisinopril for abut 8 months plus 2 other blood pressure medications. The side effects I felt were not the ones I saw on the list I received. It was not until I read side effects others had did I realize what my problem was. I have had the dry cough so have to carry water or cough drops with me at all times. Never before did I have heartburn but it is frequent now and my medicine cabinet now carries Alka Seltzer and Pepto Bismol plus antacid pills which I carry with me at all times. I see my blood pressure went down but like others my heart rate has gone up to the point where I went to Emergency Room in hospital thinking I had a heart attack. I had the worse sore throat I have ever had which was short lived. I was diagnosed with bronchitis which I doubted as I had no fever. Right afterwards I was diagnosed with a virus as I had no appetite and was so lethargic. This lasted 3 weeks and still happens now and then. I get dizzy and then sick to my stomach. The worse thing is lack of sleep. After I read others had the problem I was so relieved to know that it indeed was Lisinopril. I would go to bed and had a hard time getting to sleep only to wake up again after only 1 or 2 hours of sleep. Getting back to sleep was also hard. For 2-1.2 months I have had miserable nights, waking up about 4 times and having a hard time getting back to sleep. Tried everything imaginable to get some sleep and wandered around the house alot. Decided to cut the pill in half and see what happened. The last two nights I only woke up twice instead of 4 times so that proves it was Lisinopril. Knew I should not quit it cold turkey. Have an appoint with a cardiologist in 2 days as I hope he knows more about side effects than my doctor. I had my house tested for mold and even thought my water may be contaminated. Now I see so many others had the same problems as me. Thank goodness for this website.
I am sick of being sick and know now what the problems have been all along. Another thing, I was diagnosed with Diabetes which also surprised me and I see others also had that problem. What a nasty drug........

Wow am I glad I found this sight. Thought I was going crazy with this cough. I started taking Lisinopril per dr. orders in May 2005 for High BP. About a month later wife and co-workers pointed out to me that I sure cough a lot. Hall's cough drops became a daily part of my routine (10-15 a day). Just before Christmas I cought a nasty cold and while the major symtoms went away as usual within a week, the cough persisted and now consists of a sharp pain in the right lung. I have resolved to stop taking the Lisinopril as of 1/8/06 and see if the cough and pain go away. Can't get an appt. with my new Doctor for a month or more so it's self experimentation time. Wish me luck.

I've always (~40 years) had blood pressure at about 155/60. It seems that my body likes to function at that pressure. A recent severe trauma caused an increase to 200+ systolic requiring emergency treatment. This focused the m.d.'s to prescribe lisinopril to bring me down to their "optimum" ~140 range. 20 mg/day caused a temporary decrease to about 145 for a few days and then some internal readjustment of body chemistry brought the B.P back to 155. I noticed bouts of dry cough many times a day that resulted in chest muscle pains and back pains. Now 40 mg/day is prescribed and the B.P has moved back to ~140 with about twice the severe incidences of dry cough. I'm living on cough drops that offer very little help. Question is, should I trust a group that has a record of multi billion dollar profits relying on scare tactics related to the dangerous effects of high B.P., or rely on what my body is trying to make evident by showing these side effects? These forums should be reviewed by the government for overwhelming evidence of serious drug side effects and the drugs taken off the market.

Oh my god! I am so glad I looked this up. I had been on 20 mg Lisinopril for 1 year and it was not lowering my blood pressure and I noticed I was more tired than usual and was coughing at night a little bit. I went into the doctor and he increased my dosage to 40 mg. I told him about my coughing and he said "Its probably not the Lisinopril." My blood pressure went down but my coughing has increased and my throat feels like it is closing up. I have to keep cough drops by my bed just to get through the night. I wake up every couple of hours and my nose is very stuffy. My glands are swollen and you could tell by looking at me. I have been experiencing more frequent headaches as well. Not sure if my weight gain it also a side effect but I have put on 10lbs since being on it. I decided to stop taking it yesterday and today my throat feels a little better and I can swallow easier. I am going in on Monday to get a different drug, hopefully one without all these side effects.
