So I had my mirena for 4 years. Since then, I have a had some symptoms that I expected and a bunch of symptoms came up that I didn't realize may be related to the mirena. The bleeding was awful for the 1st 9 months....11-15 days of straight bleeding and then 2 weeks later it started all over again. After that it just stopped other than spotting like once a month or not at all. Recently it has just been inconsistent and spotting whenever. I have also been feeling tremendous exhaustion, moodiness that has been so extreme I couldn't deal with myself, consistently achy joints (I am only 29 now), increase in depression, headaches several days a week, constant lower backache and more. I had talked to a couple of friends who told me that they felt so much better once they had theirs removed. So before my annual this year, I decided to do some research and found this site. Some of the experiences women talked about here brought me so much relief because it sounded like they were taking words right out of my head. I couldn't believe how much of my symptoms were likely related to my mirena. I actually started drinking coffee daily just a couple of months after it was inserted because I was so tired I couldn't function. I had even seen my primary doctor who did bloodwork on 2 different occasions and could find no problems. I was just feeling overwhelmed and lost that I felt 60 instead of 29! So I went to my appointment 2 days ago with the decision made to have it removed and the next morning I woke up and my back pain was gone for the 1st time in years. I also felt an unusual sense of energy that afternoon and woke up pretty easily the last 2 mornings. I don't know if it is coincidental or if it really is the mirena, but I am confident in my decision to have had it removed and am looking forward to feeling like myself again! It did not hurt me to be removed. The actual papsmear was more uncomfortable. I will keep you all posted! Note to all of you who had this put in as an easy form of birth control, my doctor wanted me to stay off of hormones for the next 3 months to be sure that the mirena was in fact causing all of these symptoms, so it will be condoms for us......neither of us are very excited about this, and not that it would have changed my decision to remove it, but she told me that part afterward! Good luck and I hope my story helps!

I had the mirena put in sept 06 six weeks after my 2nd child. And I have had it in 2 and a half years now and its been a slow progression of side effects until I am ready to just get this thing out!! I started getting acne on my face, back, and arms which bothered me but it has progressively gotten worse. Its like I have cysts under my skin and they take forever to go away. But the final straw is that my hair has thinned to the point that I can't afford to lose anymore or I am going to have spots of my scalp showing. I do hair for a living so this is not an option. And the last thing is I have started to notice A LOT more facial hair.EWWW so that is when I started to think ok this is not normal and started to research the mirena. Thank god I found this web site and a couple others where I realized that I am not going crazy or turning into a hypochondriac. I understand that this works differently for everyone and have a couple of friends who have no problems but I think that if your going to be putting something into your body you should definitely do the research and then decide if its right for you. I will be calling tomorrow to have it removed. Will let you guys know how it turns out.

I'm back.. I posted back in June when I've had my Mirena for a few weeks... I go to my GYN on july 29 for my check up.
I can actually be one in a million to say I'm very happy I had this IUD inserted. I have never been able to take the pills. I tried the shot once and had a period for 6 months straight... and that was only ONE injection....
The first couple of weeks I did feel like I had a yeast infection... it burned when I pee'd... It hurt to shower... I started to get frustrated..
I didi wait it out.... I told myself that I would tough it out until my check up appointment and IF I didn't feel better I woudll discuss removal ASAP !!!
but I'm fine ... I did cramp for a couple days after insertion. That is now gone .... I was moody for a few days ..... moodiness is gone.... I still get tired but I notice that is getting back to normal also....
I FOR ONE AM GLAD I HAD MIUD INSERTED !!!!
I say good luck to the rest of you...

I started using NuvaRing because a couple of friends swore by it. I have had the same side-effects many of you other women have had while using the NuvaRing. I think it is a wonderful concept and would be perfect for me if I didn't feel sick all the time. I tried the patch 5 years ago and hated it. It left a scar for a year and it didn't seem hygienic. I haven't gained weight w/the Ring. I have lost 10 pounds and look a hell of a lot better- the only benefit. I am ALWAYS nauseated and dizzy and panicky. I have diarrhea every day (still) and vomited often the first 2 weeks. I couldn't hold anything down. Everyone kept saying I might be pregnant, but I had just had a negative pregnancy test. I even missed a couple days of work because I was that sick. I didn't quite contribute it to the Ring - it didn't cross my mind. I've had serious drama w/my bf of 5yrs at the same time. I attributed my symptoms to this shock... These side-effects are not worth the convenience. Unfortunately, I will have to d/c usage and move on back to "the pill" YUCK!

My cholesterol went from 180 to 245. I also experienced severe headaches and have gained 40 lbs. I went off of the NuvaRing 7 weeks ago. I haven't had a headache in 6 weeks and I just had my blood work done and my cholesterol is now 209. I can't seem to get the weight off which could be because of me being hypothyroid. You can't imagine how great it is to not have a headache 3-4 days a week. This is just what happened with me. I have a couple of friends using NuvaRing and they have no issues what so ever.

I've been using Nuvaring for about 8 months and have gained at least 10 pounds. Also, my cholesterol went from 200 to 250 and LDL from 120 to 168. Has anyone else experience increase in cholesterol? I too have expererieced memory problems and have noticed that I wake up more often feeling as if my arm or hand "fell asleep".

I just started taking Yasmin again in March. I had taken it back in November but stopped midway through my second pack because I was experiencing severe anxiety, nausea, fatigue... to the point my social life and grades in school were suffering. I went online and found this site and read how there were a lot of women who experienced bad side effects from this pill too. Recently I decided that it was in my best interest to take birth control again and because I did have added stress in my life during the time I took Yasmin before I thought maybe I would be okay this time. I WAS SOOO WRONG. I haven't even been on Yasmin again for a month and my life as I knew it has been turned upside down. In less than a week of starting it I started to have severe chest pains and nausea. I thought I was having a heart attack. I have had panic attacks before and this was nothing like that The tightness and pressure in my chest never has gone away. I've been to three different doctors and have had many tests to figure out whats wrong. They all tell me the same thing that I'm a healthy 22 year old and that if anything I just have inflammation my ribcage. My grades are suffering again because I have missed a lot of class because I feel so awful. Every morning I wake up with the chest pain (that gets worse the more active I am) and nausea. Since all these symptoms have come on my relationship has taken a turn for the worse too. All I want to do is sleep, I don't feel like going out, I get annoyed very easily by everything my boyfriend does so I don't want to be around him. I feel so "out of it" sometimes I get dizzy and feel numb all over. Its so scary (esp. the chest pains) The worse thing is that no one really believes me (i.e. my boyfriend) I never feel good and I'm sure the people around me are tired of me complaining all the time. One more thing... I started my period very early (I still have a week and a half of active pills left) I've never experienced that before... weird. Anyways, I stopped taking Yasmin 2 days ago. I still have all the same symptoms... I really hope they go away soon. I want to get back to my old self and my old life. YASMIN SUCKS!!! I'd rather take the risk of getting pregnant than take Yasmin. At least then I'd have a excuse that ppl would believe for being sick :(
