I took 10mg lipitor for 9 months and started having horrible arm pain that would not go away. Then the pain became mixed with weakness and I could not even lift a grocery bag. I am 53 and of good weight and I thought, good health - other than the elevated cholesterol level. My whole family has the elevated levels and there was an uncle who died at 43 of a massive heart attack. So, gave it a try. I got to where I thought I had ALS for sure. The leg twitching started in my calf and moved down to my feet and kept up even now. I have been off lipitor for 8 months. My strength came back in about 3 weeks and has progressively been better. The twitches are still here but am now taking 3 doses of CQ10 3x/day with Bcomplex and folic acid. All is helping and I am hoping the twitches stop. I will not ever take this again.

Hi, I'm a 44 year old male, have been on lipitor for four years. My left shoulder hurts whenever I use it, exercise at the gym is a killer. I have what I call leg fatigue, the muscles in the back of my legs feel like I just ran a marathon after making my kids breakfast in the morning. All I want to do is sit and rest. I just started Cq10. If that doesnt work I'm going to go off lipitor for 30 days to see what happens. Very interesting reading in this forum, good luck to all!!!

This post is about my mom she was put on Vytorin which is a combination of Zorcor and Zetia. Her cholesterol was not all that high but her Dr wanted her to try it to see if it would come down. She was on it for one month and her cholesterol droped from 195 to 86 BUT she was having really bad headaches and her neck would be stiff her legs hurt and she had blurred vision in her left eye only and shooting pain in the left side temple. Before taking Vytorin she was in pretty good shape for a 71 year old but not she is so tired all the time, I am really worried about her overall health. Yesterday when I took her back to her Dr to find out why she was still having these problems he said the medician should already be out of her system since she quit taking it on Nov 17. I requested that he send her to the hospital for blood test since Vyortin had been known to make blood test abnormal. I also requested a CoQ10 Blood Test which should show any damage to the muscle tissue which can be a side effect of the Vytorin it breaks down muscle tissue in some cases. I really think MD's need training on these drugs before giving to patients. Also do anyone know how long it takes these meds to get out of the systems. Has anyone else had these problems. Thanks for any response and help. Sharon

My cardiologist advised me to take CQ10 with each dose of Zocor....I ran out of CQ10 and did not take it for 2 weeks. I then developed pain in my arms and legs with severe muscle weakness. I had trouble walking and keeping my balance. I stopped the Zocor and my muscles have improved after 2 weeks. This has been a frightening experience for me .

I have been taking 10mg Zocor for about 13 years. Have had some tingling in my toes, muscle weakness and joint soreness. It could be attributed to age rather than Zocor, but I don't really know. I just read about Coenzyme Q-10 and Zocor. It is commonly called CQ10 and is important to the process that produces 95% of the energy at the cellular level. Zocor and other statins depletes half of the CoQ10 that your body manufactures and can lead to muscle weakness and heart failure among other things. I just started taking CQ10 and have not had enough time to evaluate it on myself yet. It is sold off the shelf in any drug store. Look it up on the web for details and recommended dosages. I hope it works for me as well as you.

I took 40MG Lipitor for 3 years. A year ago I started experiencing extreme fatigue and severe muscle leg pain.
Stopped Lipitor 7 months ago and I have not had any improvement. Enrolled iin the UCSD study and was advised
that some people had immediate improvement when discontinuing Lipitor, some people took months and some people had no improvement, long term. I am taking 200MG
CQ10 in hopes it will help repair the muscle damage. I cannot
walk a city block without pain and extreme fatigue. Quality
of life greatly diminished due to this drug. I am afraid I am
in the group that is permanently disabled.

I have just started taking Lipitor this week and starting searching the internet about side effects. This site has really helped me. I am already having light cramps in my legs and my diabetes has already done nerve damage to my feet so I sure don't need any drug doing it. I also had nausea the first two or three days.
And now that I think about it I have also had headaches off and on for the last few days and I never have headaches. A rash has broken out on my shoulder and I never would have connected it to Lipitor if not for the information I read here.
I am calling my doctor Monday. I got myself into this mess by not eating right, I can get myself out by eating right. Already take CQ10 and fish oil, glad to know that was a good decision.
Thanks
