I've been on a 7 day regime of Levaquin 500mg for an a infection that wasn't cured by other antibiotics and I can say it's worked. Yea I had a some muscle craps in the legs and some leg pain and a first day bout of nausea but overall, it's worked great for me.
I'd suggest that anyone on it do as my doctor said and either eat at least 1 cup of yogurt a day and/or take a Probiotics pill. The antibiotic/any antibiotic kills the "good germs" that help raise your bodies immune system and helps with digestion and the Yogurt/Probitic pills help grow the "good bacteria" back and ease the side effects while on it. Good luck to all

Synthroid saved my mental well being and my life. When you first go on this medication, you can absolutely feel out of whack. First of all your body has to increase it's metabolism and is too tired to do it. It takes time for the hormone to be absorbed and then get the body back to functioning. Hair loss was not something that I had. But felt severely depressed after taking it. My doc told me that it was because my body was totally in a stress mode as it was trying to heal itself from being hypo. Went on paxil to ride out the storm, and have been totally find for over 6 years on both meds. My thyroid was so low it ran off the chart. A lot of women when discovering low thyroid are also simultaneously going through menopause or perimenopause. That is why the thyroid craps out. A lot of symptoms described in the other experiences here are menopause as well. Don't blame the synthroid. It will work and the hair loss is very temporary.

I too am one of the many women who wishes that she would have seen this site before getting the Mirena! I thought that I was dealing with some sort of postpartum depression. My MD had me convinced that NONE of the side affects that I am experiencing are Mirena related. Now after reading all of this I know I'm not the only one!
I had my son May of this year. Before I had him my MD had talked to me about the choice of a birth control after birth. Well I knew very little of Mirena, but once my MD had explained it I was SOLD! No kids for 5 years (not looking to have my next one until about that time) and "little to no side effects." What could have been better. He was singing music to my ears about Mirena. 6 weeks after my c-section I went in for my follow up and was given the ok to get it. I was told that the procedure shouldn't hurt. Liars. I can't believe that they don't numb you for that. Hello.....YOU ARE MANUALLY DIALATING MY CERVIX!!! I bled that day and afterwards and the cramps were out of this world! The doctor just told me to take the left over vicodin I had from my c-section. Two weeks later the craps were still in full throttle!
A few weeks after the insertion I was starting to to become this other person. Mood swings and a total bitch came out of me. My poor husband got the bad end of it. He thought it was postpartum and just let it be. A while after that I began to feel bloated and I started to gain the pregnancy weight back. I wasn't eating any different so I know something was not right. Fatigue was another effect that set in around the same time. I thought it was just trying to adjust with a baby in the house but here it is 5 months later and I have no energy. I promised myself I was going to start going to the gym and I can't muscle up the energy to do that. I'm wiped out by the day's end with taking care of the baby and getting simple house chores done. Also my back hurts ALL THE TIME. I thought that it might have been from the epidural but now I think not. I've always had some breakouts but not that bad. Now I break out all the time, and they are bad. Not to mention that I'm getting breakouts all over my neck, chest and back. I've never broken out like this on my body before. Not even when I was pregnant. Even more recent is my hair that is starting to come out in alarming clumps. I can get a good fistfull in the shower when I'm ringing my hair out, another good one when I blow dry it, and then just randomly during the day. For the most part I've always had thick hair and I'm noticing a DRAMATIC difference!
I've made several calls to my md about the cramps and the things I'm going through and he asked me to just give it a few more months. I'm going to call ASAP and demand that this thing comes out!

I've just started using Loestrin 24 Fe in mid December and I'm in the first week of my 2nd pack. I only looked it up to find out what it's cost is. My gyn's office gave me 3 sample packs. Most times new BCs are not covered by insurance and yeah, I don't want to pay $50+ for a new fancy pill! ;) In searching I found this site and read the post. I find them very interesting and enlightening! Yesterday and today I've felt 'blah'. I attributed it to not getting my paycheck on time (that would set anyone off!) and having to rearrange some things. Well there's a lot more important things going out there than my vanity! lol But yet I can't shake the 'blah' feeling. After reading the post of some who are experiencing mood swings and/or depression...I'm starting to think about this pill. I've always had heavy and long periods with cramps, major headaches, fatigue, you name it I get it! After my first pack of L24 for the first time EVER I had a light 3 -4 day period. I did get my normal craps/lower back pain the first day but my second wasn't spent in the bathroom every 20 minutes changing a Tampax as in the past. So that part is great! I was told that I have fibroids and in November I didn't get a period and freaked out. Took a test and it was negative. My period finally came on Dec 1 and with a vengeance! I spotted throughout Dec--probably fibroid related (as that is common I'm told) so when my gyn gave me three sample packs of L24 I started them. It's only my 2nd pack so I will finish it and if I'm still feeling 'blah' I will go back to Trivora and my longer periods. I've always been acne prone as well so I don't know if my breakout is due to L24 or not right now. I will monitor. Weight gain has never been an issue while on any pill but in Dec I was 138 and today (I weighed myself after reading these post! women! ha!) I'm 143. Still in my normal weight at 5'9. I tend to fluctuate with an 8lb range and my appetite is the same--so far. So again I will finish this pack. I don't know if I can switch in the middle of a pack since my period has passed now. I do have a prescription for Trivora and I'm ready to use it should this persist! I'm 42 and I've dealt with my periods all of this time..It's no big thing. I just don't want to bleed in between periods--if it's fibroid related. I'll see my herbalist about that! You know the doctors and pharmaceutical companies seem to be in bed with each other. We've got wonder what is being put into these drugs to alter what our body is supposed to do naturally. But what's a girl to do! :)

I switched my birth control from the pill to nuvaring a little over five months ago. I am a graduate student/research assistant and have been in a great relationship for 3 years. I know myself and I know my body, SOMETHING WAS SEVERELY WRONG. I knew there was something happening inside me. I have been off nuvaring for almost two weeks and I feel significantly better. These were my symptoms:
PHYSICAL:
-severe leg pains
-pains in my arms
-chest pains
-shortness of breath
-headaches
-blurred vision
-weight gain
-rapid heart beat
EMOTIONAL:
-depression
-anxiety
-feeling of hopelessness
-easily discouraged
-rapid mood swings
-withdrawl from talking to people
-feeling like a burden to others
-paranoia
I had never felt like this before, and I thought I was going crazy. I could not explain what was happening. If you feel any of these symptoms, talk to your doctor immediately! Physical symtoms could be signs of blood clots, which can result in death. And even more painful were the emotional side effects. If you are feeling any thing like this please talk to someone or even email me! Nothing will happen if you take the ring out early, but definitely consult a doctor. If you do take the ring out, please be safe and use a condom. You are not alone! Everyone's body is different and sometimes we need to listen to what our bodies are trying to tell us.

I've been on Yasmin for a few weeks. I'm not experiencing the unbearable side effects that many of you are, but I've started having sharp cramps (similar to what it feels like when you get a Pap smear) and spotting, which I've never had before (I've been on Estro Step and Lo Ovral, both of which mad me fat and totally psychotic). Does anyone know if these sharp craps and spotting will lessen, or is this standard?

Mirena the BANE of our existence! I had mine put in January 2009 and then taken out this week. I thought maybe I should ride it out for awhile, see if some of the problems went away with time... and to be honest some of them did. The acne subsided, the cramps lessened and the periods became virtually non-existent. However, the headaches, the mood swings, the tiredness and depression and not to mention 20lbs along with boobs that went from C to DD, I couldn't handle them anymore. Removal was uncomfortable but 1/8 of the pain of insertion. I had some clotting but it only lasted a couple hours. I have been experiencing a crash in emotions but nothing worse than a "bad" day with Mirena. The only real problem I have run into was the PA that removed it. Please learn from this experience and don't become discouraged by ignorant and book smart doctors...
-- By tanders5 | Reply | Private Message meMy doctor had the audacity to tell me that all of these "symptoms" were probably my body returning to it's natural state, that is to the way it was before I ever went on birth control. I was on Ortho for 8 years before I decided to give myself a break and insert. So what this woman was telling me was that there were no documented side effects to legitimize my issues. She was saying in no certain terms that from the ages of 13-18 before BC, I was fat, moody, irrational, with acne, craps and gigantic breasts. I was offended to say the least and tensely asked her to take it out and put me back on the pill. Now I am just praying I don't experience another catastrophe with whatever this "woman" has decided to prescribe me. You can be sure I will be doing my research before putting anything else into my system. Thank you ladies for your honesty and thank you medications.com.
