I went on this POISON Yasmin for a year then went off after I gained weight. I proceeded to lose so much weight after I went off that I lost 40 pounds by doing nothing different over the course of three months. I got so skinny people became concerned but there wasn't anything medically wrong with me. However, I also didn't have my period for over a year after quitting Yasmin. I went to the gyno concerned but after a Progesterone test (which I failed) he suggested I just try going back on again with Yaz this time. I had my periods again of course but not on my own. They were hormonally controlled. After two months, I started craving food and getting anxious and stuffing my face as a way to cope with the mood swings and stress. This is was so not like me. Then I started to get horrible bloating and constipation. I had to use laxatives regularly to have any movement. After gaining 30 pounds and suffering in severe with the constipation, I decided it had to be the pill so I went off again. No surprise, I haven't had a period for 6 months since I've been off and while the crazy mood swings have gone away, I'm still having really bad GI problems. I have a sharp pain in my lower left bowel and I'm chronically constipated. After seeing doctors and running blood test which all ended up normal they still don't know what's wrong even though I tell them it's because of this pill. My gyno thinks I'm crazy, my GP thinks I'm crazy, and now I have a GI who thinks I'm crazy. IT'S BECAUSE OF YASMIN/YAZ!! This is POISON. Do NOT take this or give it to you kids. I'm just praying I can heal the pain and the constipation soon because I'm starting to limp and all the doctors have told me to do is eat a different diet. I've been eating cooked fruits and veggies for almost a month now because that's the only thing I can eat without severe pain. And I'm a 24 year old healthy girl who exercises every day. I am beyond amazed this crippling drug is still on the market place.

Wow glad I'm not alone. Had mine inserted after giving birth to my first child, 8 weeks later. Insertion was terrible, awful, all others have described. I'm breastfeeding so my doctor said I could bleed for up to 3 months on and on, and it was about that until it stopped. In the beginning i felt as though it was tickling me which could have been in my head but that's what I remember. But recently Ive been having horrible cramping that seems totally random. Insane mood swings. One minute I will depressed and thinking to myself do I really love my husband and feeling my life is meaningless to the next minute wanted to have crazy wild sex. My husband is starting to worry about my crazy mood swings and depressions. I have nothing to be depressed about my life is great but I continually find myself feeling that way. It's terrible. Not to mention I can't sleep anymore hence it's 4am and I researching mirena side effects. I can't wait to get this thing out of me. My advice my first child was a surprise and I really really can't afford another kid any time soon, but this mirena crap ain't worth it, AT ALL. Beware do not get it!

hello ladies. my wife has mirena and we're going thru hell. we've been married only 14 months. she had it put in a few months before we got married. shortly after that we began disagreeing on almost everything. i am a victim of the crazy mood swings. and my biggest issue is the lack of desire to have sex. in addition, my wife has been experiencing severe headaches, back and neck pains, and blurred vision. some may think, "oh you guys are just typical newly weds," but i know deep down its the mirena. however, i can't convince her to get it removed. in the meantime she's accepting to deal with the side effects.

Yasmin is most definitely the pill from hell! I was originally on Microgynon from the age of 17 until I was about 20/21 which was when I changed to Yasmin. I didn't notice at the time but I had the usual mood swings which come with any contraceptive, I got diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and I was suffering with anxiety and palpitations for no reason. I stopped taking Yasmin in 2007 to give my body a break but had problems with other forms of contraception so I gave in and went back on the pill after a few months, this was when the worst side effects came! Depression, anxiety, palpitations, racing heart beat, breathlessness, migraines, crazy mood swings and I’m so aggressive with it too! My aggression scares me sometimes it’s that bad!  The worst side effect has to be my hair loss! It upsets me so much! My GP but it down to low Iron and Pernicious Anaemia a year ago which I am now being treated for and my hair hasn’t got any better! I went back to my GP at the end of my tether and he did more tests including sex hormone tests which show some of my hormone levels through the roof and others struggling to get into the normal range. I had no idea this was what Yasmin did to your body! I have an appointment to see my GP tomorrow to discuss these results! Hopefully he will have some answers!

My 3-year old daughter just took her first and last Singulair today. Within 3 hours: crazy mood swings for no reason, uncontrolled anger, bad dreams during her nap time. I didn't recognize her. She's been on Zyrtec for 2 weeks and showed improvement with her allergies and no side effects, but for some reason I let the doctor talk me into trying Singular today. I just threw the Singular in the garbage. Back to Zyrtec tomorrow.

I have been on this pill for 1 and a half months now. Shortly after I started taking the pill, I started my period! I'm not talking spotting, I'm talking full-blown period--severe cramping, cravings, mood swings, and all. The whole month (last month) I was on my period. Again, I WAS ON MY PERIOD FOR A WHOLE MONTH! I just got off of my period after I stopped taking the first month's placebo pills. Normally, when I'm not taking any birth control at all, I have VERY regular periods. The extreme side effects of the first month were incredibly shocking to me. I'm still having crazy mood swings; I really hope this gets better with time.

Hi I'm 19 years old, I've been on the NuvaRing for about 4 months now and I'm taking it out this weekend to switch to the pill. I loved the convenience of it and not having to worry about taking a pill everyday and it was always comfortable. But I've noticed in the past 3 months or so that all I do is sleep! I've experienced the worst fatigue of my life and I've been really depressed for no reason and have no interest in doing anything which is not myself at all. I've had crazy mood swings where I'll be screaming or crying one second then laughing the next, absolutely no sex drive and always dry during sex, every little thing irritates me, i'm always hungry but have only gained about 5-10 lbs, I'm bloated, my skin is always itchy and extreme vaginal itching, I've had a yeast infection, a urinary tract infection and bacterial vaginosis all in one month of using NR, and I've noticed I've been stuttering here and there as well? I was always recommending the NR to my friends because of it's convenience but after reading this I realize that all of my symptoms are due to NR and I do not recommend this anymore!

I had been on nuvaring for about 7 months or so when I decided to stop using it for the most part I had no side effects such as spotting or bleeding in between periods but the symptoms I did seem to have to the highest degree was severe depression, crazy mood swings, pain on my lower left side. But the worst symptom was the severely painful headaches I was getting twice a month or so. Now since I have stopped using it I am nauseous.I have cramping also getting headaches my breasts are so sore . This is so crazy I never thought that using the nuvaring would have this kind of effect on me I feel like I'm pregnant with all these symptoms its nice to know that I'm not alone here though. I also wish I knew how long I was going to feel like this.

I'm no stranger to BCPs but Loestrin 24 has me quasi-suicidal. Yes, I've actually had thoughts of jumping out the window - I would never do it, but it scared the bejeebus out of me to actually have those thoughts.
I have two young kids and just went back on BCP's after finishing breast feeding my youngest. I have extremely heavy and awful periods so I was looking for a way to manage that. In the past I'd had only good experiences w/ BCPs so I didn't think twice about going back on them.
It's been three months since I started Loestrin and I've suffered from extreme fatigue, crazy mood swings, mental fogginess, forgetfulness, spotting (the least of my concerns), double vision, dry eyes, nausea, insomnia, no sex-drive, menstrual migraines that last up to 72 hours and lots of other fun stuff. Someone below mentioned they thought they had a brain tumor and I chuckled because I was pretty sure I had one too!
I forgot one measly pill this month and boy, did I pay for it.
Loestrin leaves me barely capable to take care of my children because of my fatigue and mental fogginess (it's the only way I can describe what my brain feels like on this drug) PLUS they have to deal w/ a very curt, impatient, unhappy and mean mommy - something I'm normally most definitely not!
When merging on the highway I ALWAYS do shoulder checks to make sure no one is in the way, but the other day I almost got in a wreck because even though I checked, I didn't see a car coming up behind me! I know this was because of my vision changes thanks to Loestrin.
I called my ob today for a new script. She gave me some generic. I hope to Zeus it's better than this stuff.
I think I'm more annoyed because I was never sensitive to meds before. I don't know if it's age (36), having had kids or what, but my body definitely doesn't handle the same as it used to. : (

I was on the pill for years and eventually decided to have a break from pumping hormones into my body... After about a year my boyfriend and I were getting sick of condoms so I decided to ask my gp about other possible options as i didn't want to go back on the pill due to the weight gain I had experienced previously. I started on Nuvaring about 6 months ago and originally loved it. No weight gain (except for my boobs which wasn't something i was going to complain about!) and no crazy mood swings etc. But about a month ago I realized that my sex drive was COMPLETELY GONE! I had always had a really high libido and was constantly pestering my man about how we needed to have more sex! Now I have no desire for sex whatsoever. I just cant be bothered at all. and when we do have sex im so dry, even when I feel turned on I have no lubrication down there at all. Also over the past 3 months i have developed really really dry itchy skin on my face that is only getting worse and nothing i do seems to help, so Im wondering if this could have something to do with the nuvaring...?
Im taking it out tonight because i cant stand my total lack of interest for sex and am also hoping it has been causing the problem with my skin... fingers crossed!

I'm a 34 African American female.I had the mirena put in 08/06.Four months ago I had it removed after two years of hell.I was so mean and angry at everyone and thing, then my husband was afraid to have sex with me because the string would stick him and he would yell. Also no periods is not healthy in my book.the headaches everyday,The dryness during sex was the worst. Now that the evil thing is out of me i'm so much more happier and i'm not as paranoid and jealous. After it was removed it felt like a ton of bricks was taken out of my body it was really killing me and i thank GOD i made it.My body.mind keep telling me too take it out but i thought the side effect would pass they never do they only get worse,Also when they removed the Mirena it was all bloody as if i had been bleeding for two years stright.I am now still waiting on my cycle. Then i will feel better.I hate the Mirena,it ruin my marriage and now i am trying too repair all the crazy mood swing my family has put up with.

I have been on the NuvaRing for over 2 years. At first it was great! I loved not having to take the pill everyday. Im so happy I found this wedsite and read everyones stories. I thought that I was not having any side effects until now. For the past couple years I have had an uncountable amount of UTI's. I also experience painful burning and redness after having sex for a short period of time. I would even have swelling. Its horrible. I didn't think these things were related to the NuvaRing, but now its all making sense. Even though I have been on the ring for 2 years it seems like more side effects have popped up in the past 6 months. I have felt more moody since iv been on the ring but im now having crazy mood swings that are totally out of character for me. I have also gained 20 lbs in 5 months. I didn't think that the ring had anything to do with this until last night after having sex with my boyfriend he told me that his penis burned. When we turned on the light he had a red rash right under the head of his penis. This redness looked like the same thing that would happen to me. After reading everyone eles storied Im going to get off this ****** ring as soon as I can. Im sick of the pain and I hate that its effecting my boyfriend too.

I had a horrible time with this pill. I was only on it for two months and was only taking it because it was the generic of Loestrin and I couldn't afford to pay for Loestrin 24 every month. But my mood swings were out of control. I flipped out on my boyfriend every two seconds. He was always like "what the hell is wrong with you?" I had never been that crazy before, and I knew that it had to be the birth control. I also had severe cramping, and my main reason for being on the pill was so that I wouldn't have cramps because they were so bad they would keep me in bed all day, home from work. And I had absolutely NO sex drive. I didn't even want my boyfriend to look at me let alone touch me. I think in those 2 months we only had sex like twice. I switched back to Loestrin 24 and I'm dealing with paying for it, but at least I don't have crazy mood swings, cramping, and no sex drive!

hello ladies, i'd like to start off by thanking you all for your posts, i read before i started my first pack of loestrin 24 fe so i could see what i might be expecting with starting the pill. i went to the gyno for the first time back in june, i went due to other health problems. for my whole sophomore year i was sick, all of the time, i'm 16 years old, and school is a very important part of my life right now, but with being sick all the time, i was absent a lot. i was absent on each period, as well. my doctor knew something was up so he ordered a blood test, the test came back and my hemoglobin was very low, he had me take 2 iron pills a day for a month then sent me back for another blood test, after the second blood test my hemoglobin was back up, but my iron was still very low. he asked me questions about my menstrual cycle and i answered, they've always been very bad, really heavy bleeding and clotting for the 5-8 days i was on it, very bad cramping as well, and i was very tired, and dragged out while i was on my period, always ended up getting sick while i was on it as well, so he came to the conclusion that i was anemic because of my menstrual cycles, so he sent me to the gyno. mind you, this was my first time being there and i was terrified! haha, she gave me a pap & pelvic exam, then an ultra sound on my ovaries and uterus to make sure everything was normal before putting me on the pills, she put me on them because of the iron that they have in them and to slow my periods down. i'm starting my third week on my first pack of the pills tomorrow, and i for the last 2 weeks i've been very very irritable, the smallest things make me very angry at any time. and have had some crazy mood swings, one minute i'm laughing and happy, then the next i'm crying because i dropped something. i get bad headaches, and i always feel like i'm going to vomit. i don't have much of an appetite, and when i do try to eat, or after i eat i feel like i'm going to vomit. i've also had some cramping and a couple days of spotting, i've had some hot flashes as well, and my sex drive has slightly increased. i feel awkward saying that, haha. but, i'm not taking them for sexual reasons, just health reasons. and i hope that the pills end up working out for me and those health issues. & i hope they work out for all of you, too. :)

The first few days were terrible for me, constant headaches and crazy mood swings. I'm on day 14 and things are starting to get better, except for the fact that i started bleeding yesterday (not spotting, period bleeding). My appetite is back to normal and my mood swings have calmed down quite a bit so I'm not as crazy (according to my boyfriend), but I do still have moments where I KNOW I overreact. I'm going to stick with Femcon and see how my body adjusts to it over time, hopefully the breakthrough bleeding will subside and I'll get back on track with my normal cycle. I'd say keep with it unless you're having unbearable side effects. Good luck to all of you! =)

I am 18 years old and have been on Loestrin 24 Fe since July 1st. This is my first time on birth control. For the first week of taking it I was on my period and it lasted almost 7 days with 3 more days of spotting after. I have not noticed any of the horrible side effects that i have read here. But recently for the past 3 days I have been extremely irritable. I have crazy mood swings in a matter of seconds. I could be having a great happy day and suddenly I'm on a rampage or I feel like crying. I sometimes have weird vivid dreams but thats normal for me. I am normally a carefree happy person. My boyfriend has experienced most of my mood swings. He's just as concerned as I am. I feel really bad for f***ing out on him and everyone else. I hope this doesn't last long.

I am so glad that I found this site! I have been on the NuvaRing for about a year and have noticed side effects that I couldn't pinpoint the cause of.

I'm a very petite girl. Only 5 feet tall and usually about 94 lbs. Well since going on the NuvaRing my weight has gone up to 112! Not a big increase to the average person. But I am so small boned and so short, that all of this extra weight went straight to my tummy, butt and thighs and now I look so un-proportioned that it's ridiculous! 18 lbs. is a HUGE amount of weight for me to gain.

I've also had terrible headaches that (if I don't take anything right away for them) sometimes cause me to pass out or vomit because the pain is so intense. I have crazy mood swings that go up and down minute by minute and this has caused many fights between my fiance and I that start over stupid little things.

Also, my periods are alot heavier since I've gone on the ring. I used to have to change my tampon once every five hours or maybe even every six and never, ever leaked. Since going on the ring my periods have changed drastically and now I'm lucky if I can go two hours without leaking through a tampon! When I have my period I'm on constant guard.

Lastly, my sex drive is non-existent. Completely 100% gone. It's awful! I never, ever feel like having sex and that is NOT the normal me. Normally my sex drive is through the roof, but since going on NR I've noticed my sex drive drop more and more every month, every week, every day. This has hurt my fiance because he thinks it's him, which obviously it never was. Now after finding this site at least I can assure him of that.

After all of these side effects I decided to go off the NuvaRing. It's a form of birth control that I don't feel is safe for my body and is damaging to my relationship. I was on Ortho-Tri Lo before and will happily be going back on it again. After all I've gone through with NuvaRing, taking a little pill every day doesn't seem like that much of a hassle anymore.

I started the nuvaring about 4 months ago. since i started it, i've gotten steadily more depressed, have had crazy mood swings to the point of crying at work for thinking absurd things about my boyfriend. crying for no reason at all and then having crazy highs. i never thought i was manic depressive before i went on the nuvaring. i am stopping this week and going to my doctor to go back on the pill. this birth control has effected me mentally too much. i thought i was going crazy. i'm so glad i'm not the only one and know what the problem is.

Okay. I have been on Yaz for the last year. I have been having horrible migraines. I have been told to switch from Yaz to something else. The doctor prescribed me Loestrin 24. Now, ever statement I read someone says they have had a lot of spotting. Is there anyone taking Loestrin and is not spotting? I am not sure if I should take this pill now?????? I also need to loose about 10 pounds from taking the Yaz. I am afraid that taking the Loestrin I will gain more........ I just don't know what to do.

Wow!!! I can't believe it! I just found this site. I've actually been on Advair 500/50 for years now, about 7 years at least. Just as a bit of a background, I'm 24 years old, used to be extremely active, played water polo, was on the swim team, and was just overall very active in high school. I've had severe chronic asthma since I was 8 years old, so in order to help me stabilize my asthma, my critical care pulmonologist put me on Advair. It was a "miracle drug"! However, while my asthma was under control, I was experiencing all these other symptoms that everyone else has been talking about.
Anyway, to make things worse, I just talked to my (new) doctor and she told me that the Advair makes it so that some organ (I'm sorry, I don't remember the name) actually stops producing prednisone (or the same stuff that your body naturally produces itself to keep your lungs working correctly) if on it for long enough. It makes sense because for the first few years it was prescribed to me, I really only filled the prescription as I was getting sick as a backup, but other then that I was generally under control. For the last I'd say about a year, I've been consistent and used it regularly as the doctor actually prescribed, every day, twice a day, whether I was sick or not. Now, I can't go even a week without it, otherwise I'm in the hospital.
During the last year or so that I've been consistent with taking the medication, I've had major depression, gained 45 lbs, fatigue, anxiety, dizziness, nausea, heart palpitations, heartburn, leg pains, sore throat, sinus infections (we just finally decided I was just allergic to our animals and I've been on decongestants for pretty much the whole year, doing sinus flushes, etc and I'm still all stuffy!), unexplained bruising, crazy mood swings, muscle pains, headaches, heartburn, etc. I thought I was just completely crazy, I kept believing it was all in my head!!!
I'm going to my doctor today and asking her to prescribe me something else. The funny thing was, I was just on my way to the hospital b/c my doctor's been treating me for the last 3 weeks for vertigo accompanied by the heart palpitations and the nausea, she finally is giving up and is sending me to the emergency room. I figured before I went that route, I'd look into it myself. Go figure!

NR has been great birth control...but only because my crazy mood swings & crying jags don't exactly put either my BF nor myself in the mood for love. I've always been one of those "stiff upper lip" types & have never been able to remember when asked when the last time I cried was (nor the reason)...at most, I cried once or twice a year, usually out of sheer exhaustion from work. However, in the past two months since I started NR, the answer now would have to be either "yesterday" or "I'm crying right now". Even my mother (with whom I talk daily) has noticed that I'm not the same strong person I used to be & it started with the NuvaRing. I am so tired of feeling like lying in the dark, listening to Joy Division & feeling sorry for myself, that after sobbing though (yet another) commute, I pulled the ring out & threw it in the trash on the way into the house today. Now, all I need to do is find a new birth control method...

I had Mirena inserted on Feb 9, 09. My period started on Feb 15, 09.....and it hasn't stopped! It is MUCH lighter than before but annoying! I am told this is normal for some women and that it can take anywhere from 3-6 months to regulate. My plan has been to wait that time period and see what happens. I have also experienced crazy mood swings around PMS time. I am definitely attributing those to Mirena. It's the first form of birth control I have had since 1998. I have always been a fairly calm person with very mild PMS symptoms. Since having Mirena inserted, my mood swings have been quite impulsive. I'm like a ticking time bomb and it really is not fair to my children. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm also experiencing the bloating, fatigue, increased hair loss, and inability to lose weight. I don't know that I can attribute the inability to lose weight completely to Mirena at this point as I am only 4 months postnatal and still breastfeeding. Also, with the hair loss, I don't think that is Mirena either. Pregnant women do not lose much hair. Since it is normal to lose x amount of hair on a daily basis, the increase for me may simply be due to hormones trying to regulate once again.

I'm a 26 year old female that has had the lovely experience of taking Lupron twice in my life. I was diagnosed with endometriosis at the age of 19 after having a lap. I had been suffering from excruciating back pain for months. The lap only helped for 3 months and then the pain returned. My doctor recommended Lupron for 4 months and so I jumped at the chance to feel better. I actually did ok with the shots. I experienced the hot flashes, fatigue and crazy mood swings but I was willing to try anything to feel better. After the 4 months, my life returned to normal and I had 5 good years of pain free life with normal periods. My body on the other hand did not react well to birth control so I couldn't use it. For the last 2 yrs, my husband and I having been trying to conceive with no luck. 1 yr ago my periods took a wild turn. I began bleeding so heavily that I was bleeding thru my tampons every 5 min and began passing clots the size of a half dollar. These episodes would last for bout 3 hrs. This continued for 3 months and so my doctor recommended Lupron again. I was cautious about taking it again, but I was desperate. This time around I suffered from weight loss, nausea, severe bilat hip pain (due to low bone density), and receding gums along with all the usual Lupron side effects. My dentist said my gums and teeth looked like I was 60 or 70. FYI, I have never even had a cavity!!! I'm now 3 months post Lupron. I still haven't started my period again but my symptoms have subsided. Its just a waiting game now. I hope to get pregnant soon but I will probably go on fertility drugs very soon. All I can say about this drug is that it worked for me the first time and I hope it did the second time. It definitely was not easy and I don't recommend anyone going into it lightly. Good luck to anyone who is thinking about it and I feel blessed to have gotten out of it with a lot less problems than other men and women

UPDATE: I took out my ring Monday, 4 days early. My period started yesterday, about 4 days earlier than it should have. I feel like my body is going back to normal. No more crazy mood swings and I can sleep! Wanted to note that everything I experienced is in the list of possible side effects; they just seem extreme. I will not be using Nuvaring again. I see my doctor on the 19th and will ask for a rx for the pill. Also, Tuesday, the day after I removed the ring, I vomited and felt awful all through Wednesday.
