Wondering if anyone has noticed an increase in sun spots on their face? I'm 31 and wear SPF 30 on my face daily - but since I've started on Yasmin the sun spots seem to be getting worse daily (I thought this wasn't supposed to happen until my 40's). I haven't changed anything else in my daily routine - just curious is anyone else has noticed the same thing?

My 19 year old daughter has had "Urinary Tract like" symptoms for the past year at least 3 times -- back ache, blood in urine, etc. She has a daily routine of nausea, fatigue, and sometimes vomiting. She most recently added a seizure. She has lost over 40lbs in less than six months and has hair loss as well. She started the shots in June 2007 right after high school graduation. Her last shot was less than a year ago.Now looking back, she began these symptoms after the second shot.

I was diagnosed with SLE (lupus) when I was 14, I'm 21 now, and I've had to be on prednisone all this while. The dosages alternate between 60mg (the highest) and 2.5mg (the lowest), I just went for a routine check up today and found out that my protein level in my urine is at an all time high. So the doctor is pushing me back up to 30mg of prednisone. Its 2 am, and I am sitting in bed crying because I don't want to have to go through everything again; the weight gain, the moon-face, everything. I know I may sound shallow, because ultimately, the medicine is keeping me alive, but the side effects are terrible. Very few people understand that its not fat that you're gaining, and the remarks that I know I am going to get are enough to drive me insane. Is there anyway the water retention or the weight gain can be stopped or decreased?

I am 28 and have been on Yasmin for 2+ years...recently switched to the generic. Other then a little touch of nauceousness around my period I do not experience any bad side effects. In fact Yasmin seems to regulate my period and cramps. I do have some anxiety issues which I treat with a drug called Celexa. With Yasmin and Celexa as part of my daily routine I feel well balanced and happy.

I've been on this pill for about 3 months and I have ALL of the same problems as everyone else. I am extremely tired all the time, Ive become depressed and all I want to do is lay in bed. Ive completely lost my sex drive and Ive gained about 15 pounds. I completely stopped working out which used to be a daily routine for me because I am so exosted and I sleep about 10 hours every night. I don't feel like doing anything and my skin is dry and scaly. I have pimples on my legs & back which i have never had before. and to top it all off i am anxious and extremely depressed. I am going off this pill now that I know what is causing everything, I have NEVER had any of these problems before taking this pill. Im going off BC completely.

I just recently had the mirena iud inserted. Oct 30 2008. 3 months after having my first child under a normal vaginal delivery. When I have asked my doctor regarding any side affects he stated that women may have heavy bleeding the first 6 months/ and that after those 6 months that your periods will actually disappear.

The first week that I had the mirena in, I began bleeding almost instantly. Blood clots the size of my closed fist came out of my body from the uterine wall I suppose. I went through a super tampon/ and a pad in an hour and a half. ( I am one of those women who normally use a super tampon maybe once in a while/ normally a reg. size does the job) This bleeding has not stopped since the mirena was inserted.

Looking at a computer screen is part of my daily routine at work. It seems as though my eyes feel blurry through out the day as I am working. Towards the end of the day I can barely stand to look at it. This has never happened to me before. It is almost like I want to turn all lights off and sit in the dark, with no noise(headaches).

Of course sex drive is at the all time low. Who is in the mood to go for it when you are bleeding with a terrible headache?

The first few nights I had a horrible time falling asleep and staying asleep.

Well... at this point I have had headaches... all day for a week now. My head hurts like someone is pounding it against a wall. I have not had a headache in years. My stomach has been upset/ feeling as though I may have to throw up.

I am afraid that I may start seeing the other symptoms that ladies have talked about.
When you had the symptoms did they all happen at once or one at a time over different time periods?

So far I haven't seen anything in regards to my symptoms with Yasmin.

After going the past two years and having only two periods, I was diagnosed with PCOS. My Gyno told me that the only way I would be able to have a period, and delay the harmful side effects of this disorder would be to go on Yasmin. I agree that my mood swings the 1st month were terrible. I almost punched my own mother in the face because I didn't like one of her jokes. That's not me. But that is something common with BC. They are hormones your body takes in to regulate your cycle. And because my body doesn't' regularly produce the hormones needed for menses, I expected mood swings. The catastrophic depression and PMS were the main reasons I stopped taking the pill years ago.

My problem is a bit different. I haven't gained weight. As a matter of fact, I think I've lost a bit. My problem is my skin. Before the pill, I had flawless skin. It was always really sensitive, but because I was cognizant of this fact, I took every preventative measure to ensure its healthy appearance. But now my skin in a mess. I have a rash spreading all over my body. My eyelids have a hard crushed rash of skin folding over, and my under-eyes are the same way. All across my face, I now have raised red patches of skin that burn, and the only change I've made to my daily care regimen is popping that little pill every night. The rash is now spreading to my shoulders and a bit on my legs.

Has anyone else developed skin problems, or could this all just be coincidental in my case?

This is my first pack of femcon, and 2nd week in, I started bleeding. I also am a personal trainer, so working out and eating healthy are my daily routine. What is not a daily routine, is gaining a pound every day!!!!!!! I weigh myself every morning to be shocked that femcon has put on 3 lbs already. I hate it, and am going back to my old pill Yasmin. Femcon is great if you want to get fat!

I have taken 4 doses of Fosomax-1x a week - and have noticed weight gain, nausea and lethargy. After the first three doses noticed a mild headache, which I blamed on my sinuses. After this last dose ( taken 6 days ago), I have had an excruciating headache, and facial pain. I have a constant burning feeling in my stomach. I will not take another dose. I saw that someone had previously mentioned taking Bone Up, and had good results. Has anyone else tried this? As a breast cancer survivor with borderline osteoporosis I am looking for a good alternative.

My almost 3 year old daughter has been on singulair for almost a year and we have noticed severe mood changes in her behavior. She is become aggressive with sever temper tantrums. This has also affected her nighttime sleep and daily routine. We just decided to take her off singulair and we are hoping that her mood changes. Please be aware of the possible side effects even if your doctor says that the medication is safe to take.

My M.D had prescribed Singulair approximately 3 months ago. I was extremely hesitant to take it and did research online before i made my final decision. I am/was fortunate not to have many of the side effects as stated in the other postings. Upon filing the second refill, I noticed I was putting on weight. My eating habits and daily routine has not changed prior to taking Singular or during taking the course of taking the pill. I started to become very concerned and I too found this site. I can tell you for a fact, that there is a very definite side effect of weight gain. I have gained weight all over my body, not only limited to the stomach area. As a result, I too, will NOT continue taking this pill, not only because of the weight gain, but in addition to the fact that my allergies are still bothering me. I am going to try Zyrtec, which is now an over- the -counter allergy pill. Zyrtec, until last year, was by prescription only. In final, to all those that are complaining of weight gain and various serious side effects, you are not crazy, The symptoms you are experiencing are real. Good luck to all of you.

I have been on Loestrin 24 Fe for about 7 months now. I used to have severe cramping, heavy bleeding and migraines. Now, i have heaving bleeding, severe cramping, migraines, severe depression, weigh gain, you name it. Since I've been on this pill I have gained almost 40 lbs, even though I dont eat or exercise any differently. My bra size has gone from a small B to a D,which has been extremely painful and now my back is feeling the consequences. I am a petite girl so its awkward having such large breasts. I'm planning on calling my doctor ASAP after seeing everyone who has all of these similar problems.

I got my Mirena in a few months ago, on a second attempt. I've never had a child, so there was some difficulty in opening my cervix enough to push it in, so I had to go back with my period for another insertion, which was painful, but not terrible. The first two weeks were great. I had no cramping at all, and some spotting, but even that was mostly just when I used the bathroom, and not when I was up and walking around.
The first complaint I had was that my boyfriend could feel the string. It wasn't even just an awareness that it was there, but severe pain that hit him every time he bumped it. We stopped having sex.
Then, I started being a complete bitch. I have a history of clinical depression, and have been treated and it hasn't been an issue for a few years, but I know depression, and this is not it. I've also been stressed out. This is not it. This is like my worst PMS ever, multiplied by ten, constant, and increasing every day. I'm a teacher, and I've been finding myself yelling at my kids when the do the littlest thing wrong. I've screamed at my mother when she's trying to be helpful, and I've hung up on my boyfriend when I was pissed at him for no reason. I have NEVER experienced such irritability, and I have NEVER treated the people I love with such disrespect. I'm worried that if this keeps happening, it will ruin my life.
I've also gained significant weight. I have always been a slim woman, and now my clothes don't fit. If anything, I have been more active and eating less calories since I've had my Mirena inserted. And wrestling my pants on in the morning doesn't exactly help the irritability.
Then, one morning, I woke up with INTENSE throbbing pain in my lower abdomen. I was about to get myself to the hospital when it stopped. The next day, I felt for my string. Gone. The next day, it was back. The next day, gone. I went to see my doctor, and after much poking and prodding, she was unable to find the string, gave me a pregnancy test (like I'd been having sex...) and scheduled me for an ultrasound. Since then, I've experienced awful cramps. My doctor thinks the intense pain was an ovarian cyst bursting (which makes sense with my medical history), and the cramping caused by that made the Mirena shift up, which then caused more cramps as it resettled into a new place. She insists that the ultrasound will likely show everything is fine, and that it won't be a big deal until five years from now, when they have to figure out some way to remove the Mirena without it's string, ie dilating my cervix and using clamps to pull it out.
I have asked to have my Mirena removed on several occasions, and my doctor insists that it will get better, and I just have to tough it out. I know that I cannot continue to experience this irritability or pain, and I do not want to see if the weight continues to pack on. On Tuesday I have my ultrasound, and then an appointment with a different doctor to tell me the results and have it removed.
I was on these boards before my insertion, and shortly after, and thought all these side effects were crap, and that the posters were just the 1 out of 10 women who don't recommend the Mirena to their friends. I was sure that it wouldn't happen to me, but boy was I wrong. I believe the statistics the Mirena website gives are completely flawed, and I would NEVER recommend this to a friend, or even an enemy.

I posted my experience with LIPITOR on the first of January. I am happy to say, all of the muscle pain I was experiencing in both legs (knees, calfs, feet) has stopped completely. The tendinitis in both of my arms has improved, but hasn't stopped completely. I am already feeling 80% better, & am encouraged to the point that I believe all of my negative symptoms will disappear soon. I haven't informed my doctor yet, (that I stopped taking LIPITOR cold turkey), because I am trying to exercise daily, doing at least 45 minutes on our treadmill, (something I couldn't do with the constant leg pain & exhaustion), eating healthier. (I should lose at least 20 pounds) & I've added Apple Cider Vinegar, 1 tablespoon 3 times a day, to my daily routine. I heard that this has helped others to lower their total Cholesterol number. I will do this for a few months, then have blood work done. No matter what, I will NEVER go back on Statins. Good Luck Everyone :)

I am only 20 and I am confused having read all these complaints about Yasmin. The thing is that the pills have been prescribed by my doctor because of a low-progesterone level and a high-testosterone level. He says this is the only way I can regulate my hormone levels. I am now having some side-effects like depression, headaches. And it's only been the second day of taking Yasmin. Could anyone help me?

I am 60 years old female & have been taking Lipitor for about 4 years. I recently went off the drug for 3 months, & in that time much of the muscle pain I was experiencing began to lesson. I have pain in both arms from the below up to my shoulder. Hip pain & leg cramps. I have trouble sleeping & absolutely no sex drive. Of course, my Cholesterol went sky high, over 300. I have only been back on 80 mgs for a month and a half, & all of the aches and pains are back ten fold. I feel a hundred years old.I have to make a big decision...die of high Cholesterol, or live a life of constant pain and sleep deprivation. This is really bad. I f I had to run or crawl to save my life, I'd never make it.

I have been taking Yasmin for a year now. Firstly I took it for contraceptive reasons but then I just stayed on it because I thought it would keep my skin under control. I have suffered migraines, weight gain and I am never rested despite trying to sleep as much as possible. I have joined the gym in an effort to loose the weight but I just can’t shift it, particularly the weight around my stomach. Also my skin is just as bad if not worse for being on Yasmin. My friend suggested to me yesterday that it could be attributed to the pill that I was on and I have decided to stop taking it immediately. I didn’t really think of it before as it is just something you do which becomes part of your daily routine.
The pill offers you a great form of contraception but I am sick of feeling the way I do as a result of being on. I hope everyone else suffering these symptoms stops if possible because it is not a fun way to live.

Mydaughter is 8 and in second grade. She has been diagnosed with adhd. We have been taking adderall xr for about a month and a half. While the school day goes well for her, the afternoons and ugly for us. She is very agitated, cries for nothing and irratic for about 1-2 hours. We also have a hard time getting her to sleep. Her doctor prescribed Lunesta 1 mg, but it takes a long time for her to go to sleep. We start around 9:00 or10:00 and it takes a good 1 1/2 hours to get her to go to sleep. She does not sleep thru the night either and has never been a good sleeper. ALong with this add she also has hydrocephalus. While this works great for her attention problem in school, it is very exhausting for me in knowing how to handle her moods, outbursts and the sleep issues. Any advice on either? Thank you

hi everyone,

just wanted to report in on my experience with yasmin and getting off of it...

i was on it for over a year with no problems. i went off for a little bit, and then back on and a couple months later (last january) i had my first panic attack. luckily i found this website within a week and figured out that yasmin was to blame. and luckily i ignored my doctor who disagreed with me. i had always been an upbeat, positive person, with not many fears. then suddenly out of nowhere i was panicing about everything. i couldn't really drive, being on elevators freaked me out, being in large crowds freaked me out- it was horrible. before taking yasmin i felt pretty fearless- i had no problem traveling by myself and taking all sorts of risks. i quit taking yasmin right away but it was many months before i felt completely better. it's a very slow road, but to those who are just getting off of it, or who have been off for a few months and still don't feel back to normal- please be patient...you will feel better with time. and like many of you have described, the anxiety was worse around my period and when i was ovulating. knowing that made it a little better because i knew to expect it and not freak out as much. i also cut out caffeine and cut way back on sugar and i felt that made me slightly less anxious.

my doctor gave me xanax, which i kept with me because it made me feel better to know i had something i could take if things got really bad. i would occasionally take 1/2 a pill. i never felt addicted to it, and experienced no side effects from it, other than some general grogginess. it did make the panicy feelings go away. so, i found it helped me to be able to keep up most of my daily routine while waiting for my hormones to readjust. but i am skeptical of taking drugs and was very resistant at first.

i'm now sitting here drinking a cup of coffee with no anxious feelings at all. it took about 9 months for me to feel completely better. i know that seems like an eternity but it will get better. the progress is very slow (at least it was for me) but it is there. the anxiety i experienced from yasmin was definitely the worst experience of my life. there was one night in particular where i felt so out of control, depressed and confused that i was nervous i might do something really stupid. i felt like i was going crazy. but now that i feel back to normal again, in some ways i'm glad i had that experience, because it makes me so empathetic to people who experience that sort of anxiety all the time. i feel lucky that it was temporary, because it truly felt like a living hell.

well, i'm rambling. just wanted to share my experience in hopes that it can give someone a bit of hope. hang in there. it sucks but it will get better.

mary

My 3 year old daughter was put on Singulair (4mg) for mild Asthma. She had a very hacky dry constant cough. When allergy season came into play, we also added Claritin to her daily routine. We use the liquid Claritin for Children (24 hour) kind. No side effects from any of the two medicines whatsoever. Most of the posts here are full of side effects and I just wanted to say that we have experienced nothing and my daughter is doing well. She is about to turn 4 and is still on Singulair for children. (Chewable type).

i've been on tegretol for well over 15 years now, for my Status Epilepticus (severe epilepsy). i was always on a small dose (600mg daily i think). but due to my epilepsy being poorly controlled, the dose got increased to 800mg - that was around 10yrs ago.

i am 6' 5", and used to weigh around 224 pounds. Since the dosage was upped to 800mg/day, i have gained around 84 pounds in weight, and have allways had drowsiness, lack of concentration, poor short-term memory, double vision and terrible balance. And still the epilepsy has been poorly controlled, still suffering petitmal and grandmal seizures.

So around a month ago, my neurologist was informed of my side effects becoming so severe. He told me they are "toxic side effects" of the tegretol.. Yet told me to increase the dose, by 200mg/day, increasing it every fortnight.

i.e. up to 1000mg/day, then 2 weeks later go up to 1200mg/day, etc.. he told me to keep doing this till i get to 1600mg/day. then possibly go as high as 2000mg/day.. !!

i have to tell you all, that since i started following his advice and increasing the dosage past 1000mg, i have felt absolutely terrible. I find myself needing over 13hrs sleep, then more sleep a few hours later. I also have difficulty reading (despite my eyesight testing ok), and unbearable migraine-style headaches.

at 30years old, my daily routine is not too good at present. And still no benefits have been noticed since upping the dose. On 13th October, i increase it to 1400mg/daily.. :(

I had very bad side effects from Atenolol. I felt completely exhausted, where even walking a small distance is difficult. I felt intense pressure in my chest and head, as though something were pushing me back! I could barely keep up with my daily routine on this medication. My doctor did change it, saying I could not tolerate it.
