PLEASE READ MY STORY!!!....My Doc switched me from Dyazide to Lisinopril Hctz 20/12.5 in Jan'07 for my high blood pressure. The first day after I started taking the medication, my BP dropped very LOW and so did my heart rate-53. My blood pressure readings continued to be consistently LOW for months, but Doc kept telling me it was OK. Had other side effects; Cough, lethargy, swollen LIP, (daughter called me Duck Lips!) sleeplessness, lightheadedness, hairloss, muscle fatigue. All symptoms I attributed to Menopause. (Except the duck lips)Over the summer, I developed slight Edema in my extremities whether I was exercising or not, thought that was weird. Told Doc about it, she ordered Blood work done to see what inflammation level is. Lab Report showed; INCREASE in BUN & Creatinine levels with eGFR level DECREASING. These levels are indicators of Impaired Kidney Functioning! Doc not concerned, tells me not to worry, just a "Bad Test Day." She increases my dosage to 20/25. Within 4 weeks of the increase, I experienced 3 bad episodes, 2 of which I went to the Emergency Room and should've for the other. In all the episodes I experienced Chest pain, Shortness of Breath, Severe Headache, Dizziness. I'm thinking I'm having a Heart Attack or Stroke because I'm a very high RISK. Tests come out normal, docs however, concerned about my LOW Blood Pressure readings but None of them tell me to discontinue the Lisinopril HCTZ. Have a 4th episode two weeks ago after walking/hiking about a mile and a half, stopping periodically to rest and drinking plenty of water on the way. After I completed my walk, I again rested for 45 minutes. I stood up, became very Dizzy, developed Shortness of Breath, Bad Headache, Profusely Perspiring, Back pain. Dummy me drove 10 minutes to get home (Should NOT have done that) Had daughter call 911. Was admitted to the hospital with SEVERE Dehydration, Dangerously LOW Blood Pressure-63/34, and going into Renal Failure which blood tests confirmed. I'm given IV fluids plus Potassium Chloride. Hospital takes me OFF of Lisinopril HCTZ and puts me on Lisinopril at 5mg!!! Had a hunch, Told the Docs at the hospital against their advice, "I'm NOT taking the Lisinopril!!" Upon discharge my BP remained in the 80-90's/40-50', except when I threw the doctor out of my hospital room because he wasn't listening to me. My Dystolic rose to a whopping 66. Went to my Doc for follow-up in two days. My BP was 146/98. Told her what I told other Docs. She convinces me to try Lisinopril 5mg for 30 days. Took it for 2 days, still bothered by what happened and searching for more information. Got LUCKY, Found this website!! I threw the bottle away. Went to a Nephrologist that specializes in hypertension. My hunch/intuition was correct!! He told me in RARE cases, Lisinopril will "cause" renal insufficiency. Discontinuation of the medication will reverse the negative effects. (I hope) Current Blood work states levels within normal reference range.

Looking for a good Medical Malpractice Attorney.

PEOPLE, PLEASE DO NOT DISCONTINUE THIS MEDICATION SUDDENLY, IT CAN BE DANGEROUS!!!

I have been reading about this medication here for some time, and I feel concerned when I read about someone deciding to just quit taking it suddenly. I personally intend to quit as soon as I find a doctor with enough knowledge to help me wean off of it in a safe manner. I've been on it for two years, and the side effects have grown worse than my original health problem, so I understand wanting to just up and quit taking it, but after learning the hard way, I've found out it's not so easy.

Do your homework, read and learn about the potential 'rebound effect' and by all means, talk to your doctor before doing something that may cause you to be in danger ( as in having a heart attack)...if you don't believe me, learn for yourself, the information is easily researched.

Blessings, and good luck...

hi kim123,
i am sure it is a symptom of your anxiety levels. the excess adrenalin circulating in your system causes muscles to twitch, tense and shake and tingle just like they would if you were in real danger (although you are not your body thinks you are because of the constant high anxiety state) i used to have twitching in my legs, they would jump and shake all the time. i also used to get tingling and numbness in my face. how is it going with the lexapro? is it helping you at all?

hi andiegags,
i can totally relate to what you are saying,i used to find that even on yasmin 14 days before my period was due my anxiety levels would sky rocket, i used to take diazepam for my anxiety but decided to stop taking it and learn to deal with my anxiety,it sounds easier said than done i know! the 1st step is to keep telling yourself that the feelings of anxiety are not important as there is nothing to be anxious about and to just keep thinking positively that it will go away, you are in no danger and there is nothing wrong. now i am off yasmin (6 weeks) i have had 2 periods,i still feel a little more anxious before my periods but now i know that i will i am prepared and it doesn't freak me out so much, i found that by using positive thinking techniques i was a ble to stop taking the diazepam and can now cope on my own as i did not want to rely on drugs to ease the symptoms because as far as i am concerned drugs started this in the 1st place (ie taking the yasmin)
best wishes to you.

hi abs528.
sorry to hear things are still bad for you,i'm glad that you have got some help though with your OCD. i never thought of it before but i always used to have to check to make sure i had locked doors and turned of gas/electrical appliances.sometimes i would go out then have to come back to make sure i had locked up or turned everything off then go back to make sure i hadn't switched it on when i checked it by mistake! although i haven't done it for years (since i had kids as had other things to worry about!) i wonder if anyone who has an underlying ocd/depression/anxiety issue is made worse by yasmin..there seems to be a link there. it's strange the things we become obsessed about, over the last year i have had a range of obsessions. ie.. my husband was going to die,i was going to be raped, someone was going to break into my house, someone was going to hurt or steal my children. but what i realise now is that because of my constant state of anxiety my mind was always looking for the danger that made my anxiety levels so high but of course there was no real danger, once i realised that and just accepted that bad things can happen but i couldn't waste my life waiting for them to...i started to relax and my thoughts have relaxed too. having not had your particular fear i cannot tell you how to deal with it but i would suggest telling yourself each time that you have a disturbing thought that it is not real, just realise it is a thought nothing else, you do not have to act on your thoughts or even react to them..just observe them and let them go and try to relax....life is too short ..enjoy every minute of every day! best wishes to you abs 528 and all the other ladies out there that are suffering from this devil pill!

hi abs528, i'm sorry to hear that you have not had much improvement, snap on the sore throat by the way! i had trouble sleeping for quite a while when i was on yasmin last year,i had really scary thoughts and felt terrified most of the time. the best technique i have found to help this is distraction like singing or housework or whatever but just take your mind off it and keep reminding yourself that your fears are not real and that you are in no danger, your loss of appetite is probably down to the anxiety,i lost my appetite and ended up losing 2.5 stones (35lbs) but i have gained 18 lb back now! it may also help to think positive thoughts,i know it sounds corny but if you keep doing it the brain can only focus on one thing and hopefully it will be the good stuff! don't lose faith in yourself...you know this is not you it is this devil of a pill! keep your chin up it will get better and you will feel great again.

Hi Sophie!

Different than the last post I don't think that your life is really in danger... Don't worry (sounds very weird, I know.....). But, YES that's exactly the way I felt, too, under and even about 3 - 4 MONTHS AFTER Yasmin!! And so much times I was really about to call 911 (well, though here in Germany it's 112 ;).

The Valerian you can get in every pharmacy / drugstore. It's a herbal medicine which helps you to calm down a bit. In my worst times I had them with me every day. It's not as dangerous as all of the chemical antidepressants or sedatives, which I would refuse to take, if I were you, as long as I could!!

And if the panic attack gets that heavy, that you think you REALLY can't bear it anymore, there's always the chance to call 911 to perhaps give you a slight injection or such to just help this one attack.

You should always keep in mind, that those attacks won't be there every day of your life!! I swear they will get lighter and lighter every month, I definitely KNOW what I'm talking about!!! Today I'm nearly free of them (well, I feel a change every few weeks, when my period "should" come or so, which is because of the hormonal changes a body goes through within a month!!)

Sometimes it helped me also just to hear some music, that I'm really keen on or just read a little bit or even watch TV. You should try to not stress up yourself to much with other things (doing your household or anything). Everything is unimportant besides your health at the moment!!

And you're definitely NOT bugging me, Sophie!! I see which phase you're in and I'm feeling so much with you, because I remember me sitting in the same sh.... as you do now about one Year ago!! And I know that the only thing that can help a bit at the moment is someone who understands you're problems and someone you just can talk with about that agony!!

And another thing, which I guess you are feeling, too: I always thought, I will never get through this and this is the way things will stay for the rest of my life and I always was afraid to completely loose my mind over all this!! And look at me now: I didn't loose my mind and everything is nearly completely gone!! I'm working again, going out again, today my husband and I will do a little shopping tour, which I thought I would never be able to do ever again in my life!!!

Sophie, if I could I would like to give you a big hug right now (My thoughts send you a big hug right now!!) and tell you, that it's just a phase you have to go through now until that Yasmin poison has completely gone out of your system and you're hormones finally get back in balance. And I swear, the sun will shine again for you, too, in a few months!!

Stay strong and hang in there, you have the strenght to get over this, I know!!!

Big hugs and god's bless to you!!

Feel free to E-Mail me or post here again if you're in need for help!!!

I took Toprol XL for a short time in order to regulate extremely high systolic bp. It did little to reduce that, but brought down the diastolic rate as well as my heart rate so low I was in danger of passing out. The doctor immediately took it away and replaced it with one that takes care of the systolic withough demolishing the diastolic.

I posted below about my 3yo daughter & I wonder about reporting it further also. I am still so disturbed about her change in behavior & her physical pain at the time. We are now weeks away from her last dose & she is her 'regular ol' pinchy self...nothing like as mean & nasty as she was on singulair. I would hope if anyone knows how to get the word out further on the danger of this med please post it.

I was put on Avelox for bronchitis and early signs of pneumonia. I was given 5 pills and told to continue to take them no matter what. That night I took a pill and went to bed. The next evening is when my troubles started. Initially, my left leg went numb. I called an on-call nurse's line to ensure that I was not in immediate danger. The next morning, both of my legs went numb, as did my feet and I experienced tingling in my hands. ER gave me an anti-inflamatory and said I was fine. One day went by with almost no numbness or discomfort. Today (day 4) I went to work, only to begin feeling a numbness in my spine - top to bottom -followed by both legs, feet, shoulders, and face. I had tingling in my hands and in my arms. My ears were extremely hot and itchy, as was my throat and my eyes. This time the ER paid a little more attention, but ruled that I was allergic and told me not to take my (last) pill. After reading all of this, I am praying that such symptoms do subside. I will be reading up on this pill.

Following some careful reading, here's a thought: Perhaps these statins are the opposite of the "Elixir of Youth" and, by preventing the normal body approach to cholesterol, are actually advancing the ageing process! The younger the patient, the more evident the symptoms seem to be, and all the symptoms indicate that a drastic reduction of cholesterol, although protecting the heart in some ways, may be a danger in that it inhibits the CoQ10 process..? Sorry if this is not a new side-effect - rather an interpretation of the various side effects described.

I was prescribed Levaquin (500 mg) for a respiratory infection to be taken once daily for 7 days. I took the first two doses without incident. I remember feeling pretty good before taking my third dose of Levaquin at bedtime, but all that was about to change. I awoke at 2:00 AM from a disturbing nightmare feeling very agitated and depressed. I somehow managed to calm myself down and get a few hours of sleep. When I woke up I was still feeling very anxious and depressed. I knew right away that this had to be the Levaquin, so I immediately threw it in the trash. My depression finally lifted around midday; however, the anxiety stayed with me until evening. I am normally a very calm, healthy, and happy person with no history of depression, and I don't ever recall having any side effects to medication. The most disturbing thing about this experience was how I went from my normal disposition to becoming a completely different person in a matter of hours. I felt very emotionally unstable and kept having random thoughts and images of suicide. I never really felt in danger of doing harm to myself, but the fact that I was even having thoughts and images of this was extremely disturbing. I submitted an incident report through the FDA web site and I encourage others to do the same. Needless to say, I will never take any medication in the future without first investigating its potential side effects. I hope this information will be helpful to others. I felt comfort in this site knowing that others have shared similar experiences. I also wish the best for those of you who still suffer from your side effects from this dangerous medication.

If children are having side effects to Advair but need a corticosteroid to help control acute asthma, you may want to ask your doctor about Pulmicort or another such inhaler or daily nebulizer treatment.

Please go to www.advair-asthma-danger.com for morte info & useful links for both children & adults.

When tanning at a tanning booth, my legs get a blotchy rash; but not rough to the touch. However, when tanning under normal sun rays, I had no sign of any rash or blotchiness. Can you advise me of what may cause this effect from one and not the other form of sun? And is there any danger to tanning in the sunbed when using benzamycin? It goes away after I stop tanning.

If you would like to see a pretty comprehensive list of the side effects of using Advair, and also learn of all the complications that could arise from its use and the interactions of other asthma medications, please read our just-launched website at: www.asthma-advair-danger.com You'll find information on medication interactions and even how acid reflux can affect asthma. The website was created to educate others like ourselves and to help asthmatics know the truth. We wish you well.

Listen to your body,
Diana
