Used to get very frequent UTIs. A few years ago I was given Bactrim for the first time and developed a red spot on my side below my rib. It itched, otherwise I wouldn't have noticed it, it was like a rash. I brought it up to the doctor and they said it's probably not from Bactrim.

THAT SPOT NEVER WENT AWAY. INSTEAD IT TURNED A TAN COLOR/BROWN and has remained the same for years now. It might sound little right now, but it definitely hurts my confidence on a regular level.

Eventually after taking Bactrim again years later and having that same tan/brown spot turn red again and itchy i realized I was allergic to it. A different doctor again saying they've never heard of such reactions to bactrim. Well, I'm sorry to say but it does cause people to develop dark patches on their skin that are permanent!

Hi, I have been on Yasmin for 2 years now. I have ALWAYS been a very confident and outgoing person. For the past year i have had panic attacks regularly. I am very hot at night, I have trouble sleeping, yet my period pains are at a minimun and I have few symptons of PMT. (Mind you it is still bad enough to take codeine and paracetamol on the first day of bleeding).

Other side effects that I thought would clear up but which haven't are:- dark patches on my forehead and above my lip (doc said they would go, but seem to 'come' and go) and a very sore throat accompanied by swollen glands, sometimes on the right, sometimes on the left side of my neck. My fingers are tingly and my joints are swollen. The Chest pains could be related to anxiety. I get a migraine 24-72 hours before I bleed, regular as clockwork now.

The worst is the mood swings and the depression, I just really don't recognise myself, tired and teezy all the time.

I was very happy for the first 3-6 months that I took Yasmin, but after that I have known I haven't been 'right', but my anxiety and depression have made me unable to make a decision or be focused why.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed on the site, it's great to know I'm not the only one.

Thank you all so much for this information. I really thought I was going crazy! Constant hot flashes, dark patches on my nose and upper lip, breast enlargement and the worst mood swings ever! I tried Yasmin because after two pregnancies I was having break through bleeding with my old pill and the Dr. wanted to try this. After 6 months I officially gave up today. I agree with the comment that this pill works as birth control by turning you into a raving lunatic no one would ever touch! Thanks again for the information.

I did not see anyone posting with my problems so I don't know if they are side effects. I have been on Yasmin for 21 months taking the active pills only the entire time. I am taking it because I suffer from menorrhagea (unbearable pain during periods) and was unable to even leave the couch or bed for 2-3 days a month. Pain medication did not work and I bled so heavily that I had to change my super tampon every half hour. Sorry to be graphic but I want to make it clear that I am taking this for pain and as an alternative to surgery. Yasmin really helped at first. I had breast tenderness but my gyno told me to take evening primrose oil and it took care of that. My debilitating cramps were gone and I got my life back. My husband was so happy because now we could actually do things without having to consult the calendar. I have only taken the active pills this entire time so I should almost never have a period but I have been getting intense breakthrough bleeding lately. I used to get it only every 6-8 weeks or less but now it's about every two weeks or more often and I have terrible cramps, headaches and abdominal swelling prior to it. At least one day is heavy bleeding. This just started recently. The blood used to be really dark but now it is like my period used to be just not as heavy. I also have developed a sensitivity to dairy products (gas, bloating, diarrhea), headaches, crying jags, short temper, dark patches on my face, and my feet hurt. It seems like I just started to have side effects in the last four months. I also get quick sharp stabbing pains that make me gasp at different places on my body; sometimes on my thigh, sometimes my arm, etc. Has anyone who has been on Yasmin for *over a year* started to have side effects after having none? Breakthrough bleeding getting increasingly worse? Stabbing pains? Please let me know. Also, does anyone know of another BCP that stops your period? I am desperate because I really like this pill and I am terrified of getting an operation. I had suspected that my ailments were related to taking it and found this board last night. Most posters seem to be new users and all BCP's made me sick at first so that's why I'm asking for the experiences of those who have taken it for at least a year. Thank you.
