I had been on Yasmine for about two years with no complications until last week. Last week my heart began beating extremely fast just while sitting at my desk typing. Later on in the day my chest began feelign tight and I had an "anxious" feeling in my upper body. At the same time my lower body felt completely weak- as if my legs could not support my body weight if I were to stand. Evenso, I thought nothing of it and just assumed my normal one cup of coffee just so happened to have a strong effect on me that day. The next day the anxious feeling and weakness had subsided but my left arm and hand were tingling. It felt as if they had fallen asleep and now had that "cotton" feeling. The next morning I lost all feeling in my left hand except for my first three fingers. This is when I began trying to figure out what on earth I may have eaten, where I had been, had i drank too much coffee, etc.
I rarely drink alcahol, don't smoke, have no family history of heart problems, etc. I don't take any other medications, I don't take vitamins, I dont eat strange foods, and exercise regularly. The only thing I could possibly change is my birth control. I immediately quit taking Yasmine and all problems disappeared in two days.

Since getting the Mirena inserted in April of this year I've noticed a few changes in me. I've been just kind of out of it. I'm in college and that's not a good thing. I have a decreased libido, headaches all the time, pimples on my forehead, depression, etc. I've never had pimples in my life, so I know it's from that. I just feel like I'm in a fog or something. I want to get Mirena removed, but I don't want to take the chance of getting pregnant. I'm not good with remembering to take a pill or whatever, so I'm really at a loss.

I am a 24 yr old male that got diagnosed with HBP on my 20th birthday. I frequently felt jittered, on edge, flused easily, extreme pressure in my head, headaches, not being able to concentrate, felt run down, among a lot of other symptoms, decreased libido. My BP still ran in the 130 range. I decided to do a trial of not taking it and monitoring my BP closely. I have found my BP to be the same if not lower so far and it has been 5 days. It may be too soon to tell, but i'm going to keep monitoring. I feel great so far. I can concentrate, got my drive back, I feel good.

I can not thank-you all enough for sharing your experiences with the mirena IUD! I know some have had a positive experience and that is wonderful, I am not one of them. Although it has not been horrible, I will not use this form of birth control again!
It started with insertion, which was uncomfortable followed cramping and weeks of bleeding. However, this did decrease and I would spot occasionally. I haven't had the weight gain or really the acne problems some of you have had but I have definitely experienced mood swings, hair loss and decreased libido!! When I asked physician about this, she said that I should go on dates with my husband and maybe I wasn't sleeping through the night. When I explained to her that I do in fact have time alone with my husband, that we go out on "dates" and my children have been sleeping through the night for close to 2 years, she said nothing!
Long story short, I am having it removed tomorrow.! Althoguh I am looking forward to, I know there will be more weeks of having a heavy period. Right now we are thinking of trying for our third but my alternatives for birth control are slim to none...

I'm into my 8th pack of Loestrin 24 Fe and I'm ready to get off of them. Major issue is no sex drive and spotting right before period is supposed to start. So its like I have a really long period anyways. I've been on these pills for more than half of a year and there has been no change in my periods (no shorter periods or lighter periods) :-( And the website says "shorter periods less than 3 days by cycle 6". So its like I'm paying $50 for a "regular pill"anyways. Oh and my boobs hurt like all the time!!! I'm thru with it!!! Does anyone have a recommendation of a pill I can ask my doctor about next month??

I also completely understand the decreased libido many report. If you think about it this way it makes total sense and none of are crazy! Yasmin increases serotonin in the body according to my research. SSRIs are a group of antidepressants that also increase serotonin in the body. SSRIs are NOTORIOUS for decreasing libido due to the increase in serotonin, so it makes sense Yasmin would also. For me this has been a troubling problem along with the others I mentioned. Interestingly I had increased depression and anxiety, but this couod be to the increased moodiness overall. I also agree with the palpitations and dizziness as I have these symptoms also from time to time. These could also be attributable to serotonin-mediated side effects.

Acne, decreased libido, depression, inability to lose weight (even with exercise and dieting), among other side effects. I have never had an acne problem but not a week went by without major pimple outbreaks on my chin. Sex is totally unappealing and my decreased sex drive has really effected our marriage. Mood swings have not been fun. Also had some backpain that I can't understand. Had it removed today and it was a nightmare - the IUD had migrated and was way up high in my cervix, had to have a hysteroscopy to have it removed. I have had two vaginal deliveries and this was far worse than either of those. Painful, terrible cramping, thought I was going to pass out and I normally have a high pain tolerance. Would never recommend the Mirena IUD to a single person!

Impotence, etc:
I have been on Geodon for about 8 months to treat my schizophrenia. It has given me sexual dysfunction: decreased libido, impotence, decreased sensation and excitement, and premature ejaculation. I did not have these problems before I started antipsychotic medicine. I had my testosterone and prolactin levels checked and they are normal, so it is most likely the medicine. I am rather angry that I wasn't warned that this could happen from my medicines.
Other side effects I have experienced are dizziness and teeth clenching. The dizziness went away after my dose was increased to 120 mg. The teeth clenching went away after a few months. Geodon also seems to have affected my sleep. I would sleep about 12 hours a night. However, the long sleeping has decreased over the months to about 9 hours of sleep per night.
Despite these side effects, the Geodon has successfully treated my hallucinating and delusions. I occasionally experience anhedonia and it isn't clear yet whether or not the Geodon treats this. It certainly doesn't treat it on a lower dose. I hope this information is helpful to other people.

I have been on Yasmin for 2 cycles now and have just recently figured out the cause of my mood and lack of libido- Yasmin! I am very short tempered with everyone, get irritated quickly, I'm very unhappy and not my normal 'bubbly self' - and my fiance has noticed that I have an incredibly decreased libido (poor guy!). I've decided to go off the stuff - any suggestions for another BC pill that isn't so nasty w/ these sorts of side effects?? email me at ******
Thanks and good luck to all the women out there.

I would like to find out if anyone has had similar problems as my wife. My wife has been taking Topamax for 4 to 5 years for migrane relief. During this time she has had a series of problems that list out as side effects (IE: weight loss, difficulty with memory, depression, psychomotor slowing, mood problems, confusion, decreased libido). But the biggest and most problematic is paranoia. We have been married for 29 years and are in our mid 50's. About at the same time she started taking Topamax she went into metaphase. Initially I thought her paranoia was a symptom of metaphase, but she is through that and her paranoia has accelerated. She accuses me constantly of being unfaithful, having another job, investing in things she is not aware of and literally hundreds of accusations. All of wcich are untrue and I have proven that to her time and time again to no avail. Her doctors say no she is on too low of a dose to have these problems, but I dissagree. She went off the medicine in December and January, but started to get frquent migranes in late January so she went back on the medicine. When she was off the medicine her demeanor was like the wife I have had for 25 yaers. When she went back on it she had a significant demeanor and the accusations started up again. She can't get the negative thoughts out of her mind, which is causing her incredible turmoil, and me too as I am the fucus of her paranoia. My next door neighbor was on this very med and developed awful thoughts about her husband and got off the med. It took her about a year to get her mind right. My wife doesn't believe she has this problem. But believe me she does. DO you have or know of others who have had these problems that are on Topax? Please let me know. Thank you! Engineer-guy

After reading some of the posts on this board, I felt that I must submit my experience with the Lupron Depot injections. I am 25 and started the Lupron Depot in May 2006. I get the monthly injections and am planned to be on the treatment for 6 months. I just received my 3rd shot 4 days ago. I am very happy at this point that I decided to go on this treatment. My dr. suspects that I have Endometriosis and gave me the option of trying the Lupron Depot or having a laporascopy (spelling?) to diagnos it. I chose the Lupron Depot. The first 3-4 weeks after my initial shot was difficult. The symptoms I was having increased and sometimes hurt so badly that I would stay home or go home from work. I also experienced hot flashes (weren't too bad), night sweats, insomnia and mood swings. However, after the first month (before my second shot), the symptoms started to decrease. Now, I rarely have any pevlic or lower back pain which was a constant before the injections. I do have an occasional hot flash (I've had one in the past month), night sweats, trouble sleeping, slight memory loss, an occassional mood swing, and joint pain. Thse things may sound horrible, but it is so much better than before taking the Lupron. My Dr. had me stay on my continuous birth control (Yasmin 28) and attributes the fact that my Lupron side effects aren't bad to that. I was worried that my libido would decrease to nothing when reading about the side effects Lupron can cause, but I think it's gotten better. Now, I know that I can have intercourse with my husband and it not hurt. Before the Lurpon, I was suffering from depression because of the pain, decreased libido because of how much intercourse hurt, and the pain was unbarable most times. I think deciding to go on the Lupron Depot was one of the best decisions I've made, and I truly think my Dr. for recommending it.

Whoa, I see I'm not alone. I'm so sorry you are going through such horrible stuff, ladies. And although I would never wish these side effects on my worst enemy, it's comforting to know that I'm not alone. :-) (I know you know what I mean.)
And this confirms what I had been suspecting for months now - that Yasmin b/c pill I've been taking for over a year is the culprit!!
My side effects since taking Yasmin have been:
severe anxiety attacks
frayed nerves
mood swings / easily irritated
*extreme* upper abdominal bloating
weight gain
baaaad diarrhea
gas
nausea
loss of appetite (but bad cravings for junk at odd times)
vaginal dryness
decreased libido
I'm going off the pill as of TODAY.

I have been taking lisinopril for about 5 years or so. I don't have the coughing that so many do although I do have a slight cough occasionally and my voice is hoarse most of the time.
The question I have is have any of you noticed a decreased libido or any sexual dysfunctions such as impotence. It may be just getting old but after reading all the different sideeffects of this drug I am beginning to suspect this drug is creating this problem for me

I have been on Lisinopril for about 3 months and it has reduced my BP from 140/95 to 110/80. No side effects so far, and I can stay on the treadmill forever! Pit stops have come down from 10 in the morning to one! Is there any link with decreased libido (not ED) with lisinopril?

I wanted to post to this website because, unlike most of the women on here, I experienced very few side effects with Nuvaring and actually like it very much. I was on numerous types of birth control pills and experienced SO many different side effects (yeast infections, decreased libido, mood swings, weight gain, migraines, etc.). With Nuvaring, I only really experienced some headaches and that was mainly near my period. I didn't experience any problems with insertion, had no problems with any vaginal irriations, and neither myself nor my boyfriend had any problems during sex. I didn't feel a thing and neither could he. Like with all hormonal contraceptives, everyone's body will react differently. I just wanted to post this, to let people know that Nuvaring does really work well for some people and it is definitely my chosen form of contraception.

This will be my fourth month using the Nuva Ring. Thus far I have experienced some vertigo, fatigue, increased irritability, slight depression and extreme decrease in sexual desire. I have tried several forms of contreception including various oral bills, the patch and now the ring. I have seen better results with the patch and the ring. Except the decreased libido, which happens to be imperative. I think I may complete this months perscription and consult my OB for yet another option :(

I had taken Depakote for a few months when i was a young child. Now, at age nineteen, my doctor has put me on it again. Atfirst, I had a horrid reaction: a lovely red rash all over my arms and legs. Tehn I began to have headaches, along with a decreased libido. When I asked my doctor about all this, she said to keep taking it as she had originally prescribed; she told me that these were all "transitroy effects," meaning that eventuallythey would go away. In the meantime, this is hell on earth for me. Anyone have any suggestions? Because i can't take much more of this crap..

I'm Bipolar Mixed, OCD and I've been taking 50 mg. Topamax daily for about 3 months now and I have noticed fatigue, mild depression, decreased libido, and impotence since using this drug. I also take Paxil 20 mg. and Wellbutrin 150 mg. to try and combat the impotence. I don't know if I will have to discontinue Topamax, increase Wellbutrin or add Viagra; these meds are getting expensive. The Topamax calms my mood and helps with the appetite increase from Paxil though. Also, I noticed an increase in the decrease of libido once i started Topamax in addition to Paxil's contributing impotence. Any input would be helpful.

I'm 44years old.My last shot was the 8 oh may,a week after that i suffer a Mini Stroke (TIA).The doctors believe it was because of the Lupron. No Doctor want to say that for sure. Before the TIA,I have some of the symptems of many of yours like, fatigue, decreased libido, : cholesterol, triglycerides, migraines, disorientation, memory loss ,hot flashes, sleep disorder, lost vision on my Right eye.
After The TIA,this is what I'm suffering at this time.(The most misleading information given is that the TIAs do not do any lasting damage. They do, believe me. I have done a lot of searching, getting info on TIAs and the cause of them. I have kept a graph of when they occur and their severity. Those affecting the right side of the body leave different problems to those affecting the left .TIAs, they are a slow, destructive condition that badly damage the patients confidence in living normally. I never go out on my own now in case of a TIA.
I describes the feeling as like a rippling sensation over the top of her head, this is quickly followed by loss of feeling in either left or right side. Right side tends to affect speech, giving garbled nonsense instead of normal conversation. These TIAs tend to go quickly and do not cause much damage. Left side TIAs cause the weakness in arm and maybe leg as well, but seem to affect co-ordination and awareness. I Don't know what I'm doing, but can speak normally. These TIAs do have more lasting effects, as she can be "vague" for a couple of days before snapping back. .
And all of that Because of Lupron,Can some one help us Please. ******

I recently received my 4th shot of Lupron in a series of 6 for the treatment of endometriosis. I went through this 5 years ago and had much less side effects. This time has been very rough. Depression, suicidal thoughts, severe abdominal pain, bleeding still hasn't completely stopped after 4 months, severe vaginal dryness, decreased libido and difficulty maintaining my weight. I am so unsure about the 5th and 6th shot. I can't take 8 more weeks of deterioration. Any suggestions?

I am 46 years old and have been on Paxil for 11 years. I had post traumatic depression after an accident in which I broke my leg in 3 places and was wheelchair bound for months. I have some of the weird dreams, but it's no big deal. I feel 100% better while taking Paxil. I have tried to go off it thinking I was okay now, but I am not, I cry at the drop of a hat, and am very depressed. I will take Paxil forever I think, and don't mind. I do have a decreased libido, but have had a hysterectomy also, which has similar side effects. If I miss a daily dose (30mg) I feel dizzy and distracted but it goes away when I take it. I am happily married for 23 years, have two great children in their late teens, early twenties, and I am extremely happy all the time. I never feel depressed or unhappy. It works great for me.

I have been taking Risperdal for 5 years now. I was diagnosed with mild schizophrenia. I responded to a small 2mg dose and within weeks my weird thoughts went away. I have had no really bad side effects or weight gain apart from decreased libido and I think that it has taken away some of my creativity.

I've been on various pills over the past 8-9 years, including OrthoNovum, OrthoTri-cyclen, Orthocyclen, Estrostep and others. I basically switched every year because I had constant break through bleeding.
By contrast, Yasmin is by far the worst birth control I have ever been on. I'd been on it around 2 years, maybe longer. I am a level-headed, career minded woman. About a year ago I started to suspect I might be bi-polar or depressed.
Here is a list of the side-effects I had while on Yasmin that have disappeared since I stopped taking it 3 months ago:
-Depression
-Suicidal thoughts
-Paranoia
-Anxiety
-Nausea
-Decreased libido
-Intense Anger/Rage
-Irritability
-Increased thirst
-General disinterest/lack of motivation
-Acne
-Break-through bleeding
-Irregular periods
-Overly sensitive/swollen nipples
-Yellow discharge
I only had the above symptoms during the time I was taking Yasmin, not before and not after. This stuff is vile.
If you don't have any side-effects from this pill you are lucky. But I still urge you to pay very close attention. It is very easy for these symptoms to slowly grow over time until one day you wake up and don't even recognize your own self.
Since I stopped taking hormonal birth control I feel normal again, which by comparison means even the worst day is 10x better than a single day on Yasmin.
