Has anyone experienced excessive weight gain using Januvia? About 13 months ago I started taking J. and I've not lost any weight since that time. I had Lap-band surgery 19 months ago lost 58 lbs the first 7 months, started the Januvia, had what I thought was Lap-band problems, gained a few pounds and the few pounds are now a plus 40. I've spoken to a pharmacist and he says there cannot be any connection to Januvia, however I've begun to question Januvia as the advertisements on TV state that Januvia has not been tested with insulin and I'm taking Lantus at night and Januvia in AM. Januvia can be used with insulin at the description of the Doctor???? I'm very concerned about myself and Januvia. Any comments 2bears

This is a weight of my shoulders.
I have been experiencing many of the symptoms that have been posted here and cannot begin to tell you what a relief it is that I'm not alone. I have been using the Nuvaring for 6 months. Some of the pros were convenience, larger breasts ( I went from a full C to a DD), and more lubrication. My side affects were extreme leg pain, excessive weight gain (about 30 pounds), increased appetite, fatigue, head aches, irritability, heart rate increase, dizziness, gas, bloating need I say more? Last night I took it out immediately because I finally put all the pieces together. It's amazing to know that I'm not alone in all of this. The weight gain was so fast that I have stretch marks that are extremely deep and I have belly fat for the first time in my life it has sprung right on my stomach. I'm only 19 so this is quit concerning for me... I went from 165 to 195. I have stayed around 165 for 5 years and the fact that I put on this thirty pounds was extremely concerning. I am grateful I know what's the issue, and hopefully with more energy and a decrease in appetite, I will be well on my way to my old self.

I had mine taken out on Jan 8. I am so glad I got it taken out! It hardly hurt at all and I did not bleed, which I was expecting since I did when I got it inserted. I got my period about 2 days later. The first few days I had it out I was very emotional, but now I seem to be more stable. I have lost 6 lbs in the week since having it out without even trying. This only proves to me that Mirena caused the 45 lbs I gained in the last 7 months since having it in. I am going to actually try to lose the weight now and hope I'll be back to normal soon. The only problem still lingering is my insomnia. How long is it going to take before I can start sleeping normal again?

Hi, I take Effexor, and have experienced many of the negative effects described here, however, my personal depression was such before I began that for me it was life-saving. During those periods when I've taken breaks from Effexor, withdrawal wasn't pleasant, nor was it quite as bad as some have experienced (I didn't get the brain-freezes or violent impulses). However, I did find an excellent post in another forum about tapering off, so I am cutting and pasting it here. (fyi, if you take 150s rather than 75s -- I take 150s -- you can use a similar schedule to open the capsules and shake a bit out rather than completely eliminating a dose):

In Response To: Re: New to Effexor (Sharon)

I'have been taking Effexor since one year and a half ( I take 225 mg per day). Before taking it, I was so worrying and panic that I could'nt do anything. It took me about 6 months before seeing a change in my mind. Now, I am very happy and I don't worry about everything anymore. It is a very good medication for me, though it decreases libido. I am reducing Effexor since two months this way : first week : after 7 days, I escape one pill (75 mg); then after 6 days, I escape one other pill and then after 5 days, one other, and so on. I wait about 2 weeks before beginning again for another 75 mg. It is the best way to get off of the med because if I try to stop suddenly, its horrible. Its the only disadvantage of this drug. I hope these comments will help you.

I have never had any sid effects with this medication and have taken it for 3 year now. I guess that it depends on your chemistry that you have side effects, I go to thereapy for bipolar and there are some that have had effects and there are some that I havent. For those that have had side effects that are not serious, they will go away in a couple of days, but for those that have had serious effects should contact your dr. In order for it to work, or for any medication to work, you have to take it to get into your system, so I have nothing but postive things to say about it... there are somethings that you can not take with the lamictal which may increase side effects, for example you can not drink grape fruit juice, or orange juice , because it decreases the strengh of the medication..

I hope that those have stopped taking Lamictal ( which is a big no no anyway, and have been advised to ask your doctor to futher assist) that will give another try and take it longer than a couple of days.

Since i have been on it, I have had no problems with all of what bipolar traits are, there is a difference between bipolar and being depressed.

5 days ago i was prescrebed omnicef for the treatment of bronchitis. i have been experiencing increasing fatigue while on the drug. today i woke up practically incapasitated with muscular fatigue and mental confusion. i called to convey the side effects to my doctor and pharmacist and they both said that fatigue was not a side effect. i am so disturrbed by this side effect because i actually had more energy last week when my bronchitis was untreated by an antibiotic. after a self directed study of the drug, i discovered that omnicef actually dramatically decreases the amount of carnitine in the body. carnitine is necessary for the proper metabolic process of fats into energy. i am suspicious that the withdrawl of carnatine in an already ill individual is responsible for the lathargy and mood instability that so many on this web posting have attested to.

Hello- I was Dx with Sarcoidosis in February, 2007. My lung specialist put me on 20mg Prednisone, increasing to 40mg within two weeks. My Sarcoid symptoms were from enlarged lymph- extreme trouble breathing, middle and lower back pain, kidney pain. Within a week of being at the 40mg level my heart rate and BP became so erratic that he had to start weaning me down. Initially I had extreme energy which felt good after suffering from fatigue but was short lived due to the cardiac problems.

The Prednisone has resolved much of my inflammation for the Sarcoid but I will not go on this again. I have been weaning now for over three weeks. Down under 5mg of Prednisone and it is almost unbearable. Each time I took a drop my mental symptoms became intolerable. Anxiety, extreme fatigue with extreme weakness, irrational thoughts, blurred vision. Within the last couple of days I could hardly get myself out of bed. My weight has increased steadily, bloating stomach, stiff joints, skin rash.

My biggest complaint is that doctors are not giving us enough information as to how this will affect from a negative side. Yes, it takes care of the inflammation but no one prepared me for these awful side effects and withdrawal symptoms. I feel like a nut case most of the time with no coping skills.

To flowerbabies and all the ladies -

Please read the earlier posts a few pages back the ones that were lengthy-one specifically I posted is on Magnesium and what decreases in it does to the body and what having ample prevents-ie. the muscle spasms so many women were complaining of/muscle twitches. It has also been linked to heart murmurs/palpitations.......

while I know several people thought that the lengthy postings were just too much but reading through, identified sources and likely possible causes of teh symptoms and effects of Yasmin!

Does Yasmin affect sexual desire (decreases it)? Has anyone found this to be true?

I am 41 years old yesterday. I am 6'3" and 190 lbs. I have been on the med since Christmas Eve 2005. I had a BP of 200 over 120 when my sister, an RN, noticed I seemed hypertensive (my job is can be very stressful). With a family history of high BP and heart attack, she admitted me for tests. Head CT and chest were clear. I was started on 10mg for two weeks, then progressed to 20mg. I had no symptoms other than urgency to urinate quickly after meals and more often. My BP has come down to 140 over 96 as of yesterday. My doctor has progressed me to 40mg effective this morning. I am a little dizzy and unfocused. I am going to increase my exercise this evening to include situps. Hopefully, this will increase heartrate, and maintain the systollic pressure while the diastollic decreases. That should take care of the dizziness by oxygenating my blood more effeciently. I will keep you posted.

to the last post:

>>>However, if you are continuing to have them after 3 mo it may be a good idea to get it checked by a doctor.<<<

Well, as a matter of principle it's very important to have ALL your symptoms first checked by a doctor, absolutely. But PLEASE don't say such things as you did in your post. Cause every woman is different and from my experience I know, that it's VERY normal, that the heart palps and racing heart CAN (I never say MUST!) last MUCH longer than only 3 months after Yasmin!! In my case it decreased just very slowly month per month and perhaps after 6 - 7 months I had these symptoms only a few days a week or when I was stressed, etc. Even today, after nearly 1 YEAR off Yasmin I get them sometimes, very seldom though, but I still get them (seems to depend on my monthly hormonal level...).

@lisa:

My bp in my worst days (around December 2004 to May 2005)only went very high, when I had a panic attack or was extremely under stress (mentally). When I was brought to the ER on January, 1st 2005 it even went up to about 170/110 I remember. Now, nearly 1 YEAR after Yasmin I still got sometimes bp around 150/100 which is very unusual for me.

My entire life before Yasmin my bp was usually very low. Well, though it may also depend on the weight gain that hit me about 3 months after Yasmin (don't want to scare you, that doesn't happen to every woman after getting off bcp!! I went up 2 sizes and gained 20 kg in about 2 months - before that nightmare I always was a very slim and fit person.... :(...). So today that could be either the cause of my still sometimes a little bit high blood pressure (for example: Yesterday it went up to 140/95, which isn't that much but for me still very unusual...).

So I think you should wait on and see, if that symptom decreases as days go on. If it will not go down in a few months you still can see if you could and must do something else against it.

Here in Germany I read also of many women, that had problems with their bp after getting off a bcp, so it really seems to be normal...

And after reading all the last posts it also seems to be very important to help your body during the hard time after Yasmin with some supplements (magnesium and vitamin b seems to be very helpful...). I take some magnesium, too, every few days (important for nerves, heart and muscles) and still think about taking some vitamin b (b1, b6 and b12 seem to be the most important vitamines for us...), too, especially to help my sometimes still upcoming weakness, anxiety, muscle aches and tiredness...

If you're interested in which symptoms a loss of those vitamines can cause you should search google for that... I found many of our symptoms there and it's a fact, that bcp's (especially Yasmin because of the diuretic in it!!!) can cause a loss of those viamins and minerals!! Very interesting and helpful. Think about that!!

Greetings and best wishes to all of you out there!!

Silke

Hi everyone! So glad I found this site. I have had nothing but problems with my hormones in the past 3 years. I've always had irregular periods so my gyno put me on ortho-tri-cyclin and I was absolutely fine. Was on it for over a year then decided to take myself off it to see if I would be regulated at all. I was for a few months then didn't have a period for over 3 but would get all the PMS syptoms when I should have had it. I got married and went back on BC but I had terrible headaches, I've had weird syptoms with everything I've tried, ortho-lo, the nuva ring, the patch, ect...
The dr's wanted me to go on Yasmin because "it is so good". I did just that, didn't have any headaches but was more emotional than before, a good trade for me. So I stayed on it and started having panic attacks (i've had this with other BC's too). I've had a severe pain in my back and the dr's have ran several test including an iodine test, ultrasound, thyroid blood tests, urinalysis test...etc. Everything always comes back normal. The last week I have had terrible night sweats and feel like I am always having a panic attack, my pulse is at least 100 bpm or higher and never decreases even when relaxing. Sometimes I just break out crying, other times I feel like I am going to die. during my period I have the weirdest headaches, feel light headheaded, and my vision is somewhat blurred. What is my deal!!! Someone please help. Anyone else having this syptoms?

I began Lipitor shortly after a mild heart attack 20 months ago. Initially the ere were no side effects and I resumed normal physical activity gradually. After 8 months, I was able to get back to running 8 - 10 kms. per day. HOWEVER, about 5 months ago, I began experienceing tingling in my feet and lower limbs, primarily on the right side. Cholesterol levels were acceptable but bounced around a bit. I also found that I couldn't run as far or as fast - in fact, had to cut the distance down to less than half. The tingling has increased and runs from hip to toes. The toes are becoming increasingly numb. I have also developed a debilitating ache in my right gluteous. It's so painful that sleeping only on my back decreases the discomfort. Any other position is impossible. Sitting is painful and exacerbates the pain. It takes nearly an hour each morning before I am able to move about with bearable pain. The doctor had increased my dosage to 40 mg three weeks ago just prior to the increase in the intensity of these symptoms. I've taken myself off this drug because my quality of life has suffered dramatically. My fear is that these symptoms may not disappear but may be permanent.

i am 15 years old and im interested in taking adderal but i'm not sure if i should. I wasn't diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, its just that i heard about this medication and thought it be a good idea to try it because i feel that i need to be more focus in school, im often tired and don't really feel like doing homework...i have to change that, and i feel like adderal is the only way. I also heard that while taking this medication you start losing weight because it decreases your apetite, thats not a good thing for me because i only weight 105 do to having a very high metabolism, so i really can't afford to loose any weight if anything im trying to get to at least 120. So do to this concernes im not sure if adderal is for me; however i need something that will help me get better in school. What do i do?

i have taken eleven of the yellow pills so far and i am going back to the doctor tomorrow. the headaches are unbelievable. i have never experienced the pain in my ear, jaw, and head like i am going through now. the headaches are constant and have affect my daily life in a negative way. i started taking yasmin because i was told that it helped prevent water retention. i did notice that my pants fit better, but i think that's because tylenol replaces some of meals now. though i may have lost some water weight, i am too fatigued to go work out. i have been absolutely miserable since i started this pill.

my best friend is on the same pill. she had gained fifty pounds while using depo and she recently switched to yasmin. she doesn't have any complaints. she says taking the pill at night decreases the side effects. that didn't work for me. she is over 200 lbs and i am 160 lbs. maybe i need a milder dosage.

When i was younger and inexperienced about this drug i thought it was a bad thing, after experiencing the drug i would recommend prozac to anyone.as far as side effects, any drug u take will have its bad points. I also believe it depends on the individual taking the drug.I call prozac a happy drug.it gets rid of the bad thoughts depression and all that stuff,if it doesn't then u need a stronger dose.and then again it could be another drug you are taking that is giving u the bad effects.I have been on several meds in my life.u name it I have taken it and probably all at the same time.I have been off meds now for almost 5 years.I had to in order to save me.prozac doesnt cause weight gain..it decreases it.If I was to take any kind of meds i would take this drug. as i said before I would highly recommend it to anyone.thank you

I have been suffering from mirgraines once a week for the last four years. After many trials with different prescriptions I was very pleasantly surprised- no, I was ECSTATIC to find that FINALLY I had a drug that took my migraines away! Yes, there are some residual affects- I have noticed muscle aches after taking a zomig- but I would rather have some sore muscles than a migraine. My cure- a jacuzzi. I found that drinking lots of water after taking this medicine decreases the side effects! God speed! Zomig is my hero!!

I have just started my second pack of Yasmin and i have been experiencing TERRIBLE HEADACHES, this is not the norm for me. Also, I have had increased menstral cramps. However, my mood swings seem to have decreased. With ortho they were extreme. Does anyone know a good pill that decreases mood swings without the other symptoms as well?

Atenolol decreases the heart rate. If your heart rate slows down, you will feel tired and lazy and lack energy. Take your blood pressure and your pulse and keep a diary and show your Doctor. You may need a dose adjustment.
