I started Singulair in Jan this year.....breathing got much easier but started gaining weight with no changes in eating habits or activity levels....tons of tummy problems...quit taking it in May...starting having to rely more on my rescue inhalator more than recommended so I went back on. Now I'm having paranormal experiences....some psychotic episodes....compulsive obsessive behaviors...major off the wall dreams that continue after I wake up and go back to sleep. All in all I wonder which is worse....not getting a good deep breath or having to live in misery to be able to breathe....Thanks for letting me vent. There must be some other solution.

I had cough for almost a month when I started to feel a light localized pain in the lower rib area, between the breast and the upper abdomen. ( when taking a deep breath or coughing). Then I was prescribed levofloxacin (levaquin) 500 for 10 days for a “supposed” pneumonia and sinusitis, no RX or lab tests done, by one pneumologist. Well, I felt others side effects but what really matters is that after 2 days taking the medication the pain worsen a lot, felt like a stab. I could not move in bed, was difficult to move, seat, get up, drive, work, whatever… In the fifth day I complained to the doctor who said I had muscular pain and the pneumonia was gone, but I should continue the 10 days treatment. So I did. After 7 days I felt when coughing that something was stretching and unsticking in the pain area. After the total disconnection the pain diminished a lot. Second week, back stabbing pain, third week front pain again, same type and disconnection, then diminished. Fourth week I felt something was loose , crackling in the area while driving or doing some movements. I also felt painful, loose knees and painful elbows. After many doctors, many exams and RXs done, now I know I had chronic bronchitis and costochondritis and I ended up with two ruptures of the costal cartilage, ( costochondral junctions ) 6ª and 7ª ribs, caused by levofloxacin. The RXs now show calcifications , body repairing the ruptures. I can not exercises now for 3 months. Ah…The sinusitis was back 2 weeks after stopping the medication. What I say now is: God protect us from some stupid doctors and these dangerous medicines !!!

I got a Mirena because after laparoscopic surgery to determine if I had endometriosis (none was found) and a D&C to check my uterine lining, my periods did not "reset" the way I was told (I was 42 at the time and they told me that I was not releasing an egg every month so the endometrium was shedding erratically). What I really wanted was a uterine ablation, but my doctor was so enthusiastic about the Mirena and had been the first physician to even contemplate endometriosis was a possibility that I went along. The first day was fine, but the second day I had such stabbing pain in my abdomen that I could not stand up straight or take a deep breath. It resolved before I decided to call the doctor or go to the er. Months followed of checking off that little calendar that I had had menstrual flow that day (MONTHS. I think I started actually having a WEEK without a period sometime after 12 months of having this thing in me). I did not go back to have it removed at that time because my husband had lost his job and therefore our health insurance. In the meantime I still have the symptoms I had before I'd gone in to see the doctor the first time (stabbing pain near my right ovary during my heavy days), PLUS constant bloating, fatigue, my hair has started falling out so bad I can see the thinning at the top of my forehead, acne no matter what treatment I use, and weight gain (~20 lbs, some I can say is probably my dietary changes since DH lost his job, but even with increased vegetables/no caffeine/decreased breads, no measurable weight loss). I had attributed loss of sex drive to the fact that I have almost always been bleeding since this was put in. In fact, I went for a thyroid test yesterday because I hadn't found this site yet. I'm sure it will come back normal. Once it does, you better believe I'm going into the doctor and have this removed. I am so angry. I used to weigh over 250 pounds and worked so hard to get down to the weight I was when this was put in and am so mad that I inadvertently did this to myself.

I am 26 years old and I thought I was having a heart attack last night. I seriously thought I was going to die. At work my feet and hands started to swell up really bad, but that went away pretty quickly. Then I started getting dizzy and feeling nauseated. My heart felt like it was going to beat out of it's chest and all I could do was think about it! I went and had my blood pressure checked at Walgreen's and they said it wasn't high enough for me to go to the ER, but I was scared. I was told I was having a panic attack to take deep breathes and try to take my mind off of it! Well that is hard to do when you are convinced that you are having a heart attack. Now I am experiencing pain in my lower back and having sharp stabbing pains near my left ovary and in my left shoulder down to my elbow.......when will this end? I just want my body back again!

Just wanted to empathize with you regarding "asthma" and "advair". I developed adult on-set asthma @ 26 years old. I am turning 30 in a month and have finally experienced my asthma going into remission. I was on advair on and off for 3 years...and am finally free of it. I searched long and hard for answers in the last four years as I journeyed through massage school, colon therapy school and presently Acupuncture school. I adjusted my diet, stress levels, and thoughts. For me, it ultimately came down to affirmations to nullify the belief of asthma and EFT (emotional freedom technique). These alternative methods allowed me to re-align my mind with my lungs...and break up with asthma. Don't allow the conventional medical practice of prescribing medicine to destroy your immune system and subsequently your life. Seek out a holistic practitioner who practices energetic medicine such as an Acupuncturist, Naturopathic Doctor or Chiropractor. Advair is a crutch with sickening side effects! You can heal yourself...begin by taking a deep breath and telling yourself you no longer have asthma. After a few months of re-programming your thoughts....you will be breathing with ease. Would love to write more....but need to turn in! Good luck with your journey and let me know if I can be of any more support :-)

Pulmonary Embolism - blood clots in my lungs which were caused by a presumed blood clot in my leg, which was caused by my Yaz. This is a very dangerous situation, and I was very lucky.

I am a 32 year old that suffers from allergy induced asthma. My doctors put me on Singulair and Zyrtec and my allergies and asthma have been in control and I can live and breath without sneezing and wheezing all day long. I have indoor and outdoor allergies and before Singulair I use to have to take over the counter Benadryl and then lay around groggy and miss out on things. I haven't experienced any side affects from Singulair as severe as what I have just read on these entries. I have no thoughts of suicide, I'm far from depressed and I'm a 32 year old mother of 2 kids, I work and I deal with the everyday life. Do I have mood swings, yes, but I cannot necessarily blame Singulair for that. As I read about it though, I wonder to myself, if I stop taking Singular with I be any more happier than I am already minus the mood swings? Do I do it as a trial and error type of thing. I mean if I miss my dose of Singular I end up having to use my albuterol inhaler and my chest hurts and I start to wheeze and cannot take a deep breath without feeling tightness in my chest. I guess at this point, the only thing I can do is talk to my doctors about switching me to a different asthma medication. I'm the type of person that actually second guesses doctors and am always up for a second and possibly a third opinion. I work for years in a medical malpractice law firm and I have no faith in the doctors that practice medicine. I usually read about things in detail before I try them to see certain side affects and what not. I'm not a medical professional, but I am a paralegal and I am an educated person. I go to the doctor but I'm not one to just run to the doctor with ever little ache and pain. I'm torn at this point because if I stop taking Singular I will suffer from Allergy induced asthma, and if I go to the doctor who's to say the next drug he puts me on for asthma might be worse or will cause problems. I can only speak from my experience, but ALL drugs carry a warning label of POSSIBLE side effects. I think I may be one of the few that do not suffer from the side affects of Singular, so I think I may just continue to take mine and breath easily. It also looks like most of these entries are about young children. Could it be that Singulair effects children differently than adults? Or could it be that everyone wants a hand in the money of a major drug company?? Whatever the case may be, everyone needs to educate themselves with any drug that is prescribed to them. I'm sorry for those that have suffered, I couldn't imagine going through that myself!

Maybe I'm not crazy after all. I'm a 55-year-old female who has been taking Advair for close to 5 years. I have adult onset asthma and was using Albuterol to control it until my allergist placed me on Advair. It does a great job on my asthma, but at what price? During that time I've gained weight regardless of my diet and exercise regimen. I feel like I haven't slept in years and I'm convinced that it will eventually kill me because that makes everything else so much more difficult to deal with. I'm having major hair loss, hoarseness (I really miss singing), heart palpitations, extreme fluctuating blood pressure, heartburn, lethargy, blurred vision, twitching muscles. I finally decided that I had to change something and I found this website last week. I quit Advair cold-turkey. Probably not the right thing to do, but I was really on the brink. It's been nearly a week and I'm having extreme dizziness, terrible vision problems and awful headaches, but I am persevering.

My mom was recently prescribed Fosamax. She took one pill in the morning and by that evening she as in excruciating pain in her shoulders and chest. She describes it as a burning, tearing feeling that is made worse by bending down or moving quickly. She only took one pill and it was almost 4 weeks ago now and yet the pain has not subsided at all. She had a chest xray last week with normal results and is going for a bone scan tomorrow. Anyone else experiencing these symptoms and what has your diagnosis been in regard to the symptoms.

I had been dealing with numbness in my hands and feet for about a month (I've been on Topamax for maybe 2 months now, maybe 1.5 months...) and I am happy to deal with that. Anything is better than the migraines that I had, and anything is better than waiting for the next migraine to start.

But for the past few days, I have been dealing with a total shortness of breath. It's like I can't catch my breath, in a way... or, as my mom put it, can't really get a "fulfilling" breath. I am constantly yawning, but that's how I am getting to that deep breath, although it takes me 3 or 4 tries to get there. It's frustrating, and SCARY!

I called the Topamax number today, and the nurse said that the side effects should only last 3 months total, but 1.5 more months of this?! I can barely imagine 1.5 more hours!!!!!

I was started on Toprol-XL after a triple bypass in 2000. I had experienced several episodes of rapid heartbeats. For the next 7 years I took it daily and had no side effects that I was aware of other than feeling a little weak if I missed a dose.
During this time, I was diagnosed as a diabetic and started on Lantus insulin. I had some gastric side effects from the Metformin but other than that I was doing ok. I was and am still overweight but I was also in good enough shape to walk 30 minutes everyday on my treadmill and to hold down a stressful job.
In September of 2007 I hosted a large family reunion at my house and had no physical problems. Right after that I came down with a bad sore throat and was put on Clindamycin. At the same time, my husband went to refill my meds and came back with the generic version of my Toprol-XL. Our insurance now requires us to use generics if available. Within two weeks I was having shortness of breath just walking up the steps into my house. I at first thought it was a hang over from the sore throat and went to my GP. He had me switch back to the original Toprol-XL and I felt an almost immediate relief. However, the symptoms did not go away entirely, in fact after seeming better, they came back again. I went back to my GP. He was concerned enough to want to send me to a cardiologist. Since we had just moved here a year ago I had not visited a cardiologist as yet so this doctor was new to me and my symptoms.
So far we have done a nuclear stress test, echocardiogram, EKG's, heart cath, lung scan, and numerous blood tests. Everything looks good according to the cardiologist. And yet, I cannot walk through my house without stopping to try and catch my breath, I have had to quit work since I can no longer climb the stairs to the second floor offices, I cannot sweep a floor without having to sit down.
Is it possible that a side effect from this generic drug could have damaged something permanently? Has anyone else had any kind of problem like this?

I have been on Lisinopril since the first of November. I had a dry cough at first but nothing really bad. After about three weeks I got a fever and sick for about a day and 1/2. The fever went away but I had shoulder and back pain (between my shoulder blades) The doctor listened to my lungs and told me I had pleurisy!!!! Treated me with antibiotics - got a little better. The soreness still there in my lungs up into my neck - some chest pain. Went to the ER - took chest x-rays.. found everything normal. Still coughing - congested all the time - I am 41 years old and I WAS on 5mg of this drug 1time a day. Not a lot at all but the ER doctor took me off the drug. He said after about three days the drug should be out of my system and then I can evaluate whether it was the lisinopril causing my lung problems. Also I have noticed that I have been having anxiety and worrying about things to excess lately, which is not like me. The anxiety started about a month after starting the drug. Maybe it is from the physical problems that I have been having. I was very healthy before all of this - I am very active and a non-smoker. Since these things starting happening I feel like I have aged 10 years!!! I also have some troubling getting air sometimes - like I feel as if I have to take a deep breath. Anyway - this is the only drug I am on so it only makes sense that it is causing all of this. The first night I stopped taking it I had terrible dreams - anyone else had this after stopping the drug?

Up until the end of August, 2007, I was on 20mg of Abilify a day. I weened myself off of the Abilify before my wedding on October 20. Then, I went on my honeymoon to Germany. When I returned from Germany, I could not sleep. This lasted for 3 weeks, until I felt like I had to go to the hospital to get knocked out or I would die. My family doctor told me to see a psychiatrist because I went off my meds without medical supervision. The new psychiatrist prescribed Seroquel for my insomnia. She gradually increased it until I was getting about 6 hours a night. I'm now on 500 mg, which I take about two hours before bedtime. I've noticed an increase in my breast size in less than one month of use. I've also gained about 5-7 pounds. Some days, I feel hazy during the day and some nights I have difficulty taking a deep breath. I am seeing a new psychiatrist tomorrow to see about getting off of Seroquel and on something else. Its great for insomnia, but the side effects are immediate and troubling.

I have been taking Lisinopril for nearly a year and have experienced nearly all the bad side effects I have read about. I have had severe cough that does not respond to cough medications, copious amounts of clear slimy mucous that chokes me frequently. I even choke frequently when I am trying to speak because of the secretions. I have had severe bronchitis 4 times in 6 months. I am tired all the time and my anxiety is much worse. I now have insomnia which I've never had before. During one of the bronchitis rounds I had to take a very strong anitbiotic because it was trying to turn to pneumonia. The antibiotic made me very nauseated so I couldn't take my other meds. After two weeks without the Lisinopril, my symptoms cleared up completely. I resumed the lisinopril when I finished the antibiotic and all of my symptoms returned.

I had a heart attack a little over 15months ago & am now on several different meds. For the past 10 months I have been coughing& I mean coughing, can hardly breathe. The cough wakes me up at night, I feel as though I am short of oxygen & have to tell myself to be calm, take a slow deep breath .I am starting to resemble a fish that is out of water. I have told my doctor on many occasions but to no avail. I have also put on 15 lbs on weight . I am too afraid to come off the Lisinopril as I don't want another heart attack. I can't afford another med as i am self pay & can't afford another expense.....I am trying to tell myself that i can live like this, but now the coughing is annoying my work collegues...Also having vivid dreams, am out of breath with any exertion, blah, blah, blah...Anybody got any ideas??? Or should I just stop the meds & die??? Sorry, that was a little dramatic, I am just very tired. Thanks for taking time to read this. Good luck to those of you in the same boat.

I've been on it for about 4 months. It does seem to help but I've had problems with steriods (prednisone) taken as a result of colitis.
In the case of Advair I get the hoarse voice and sleeplessness.
I'm also concerned about the long term use of this drug on my lungs. It is a steroid. I have diffuctly in breathing, especially taking a deep breath.
Does anyone know of any studies on how safe Advair is for your lungs or the rest of your body.We have had very bad experiences with Steroids.

my 17 year old son needed a hip replacement as a result of steroids (not Advair) this summer.
BEWARE OF STEROIDS.
lets find out about Advair.
Does it have any adverse steroid Affects??
please let me know.

Thank you

To Joanne, and all the ladies,

Regarding the panic/anxiety attacks. im 22 and I was on yasmin for 1 month only and ive been off it for about 6 weeks.... i have had two anxiety attacks and ive been fully checked out by doctors who say medically im fine. Just wanted to let you know it will get easier as the days pass... i know you didnt want medication and i am NOT on anything either - i preferred to do this on my own..
when you feel anxious just try taking a big deep breath in and hold it for about 3 seconds and just let it out slowly.... just concentrate on ur breathing and you'll get through it. i find that keeping busy takes my mind off it..
and remember that one day everything will be back to normal, you just gotta give ur body a chance to get your hormones back into wack.
take care...hugs to every1 xoxox

Hi its me SPIDER MAN and I had planned on doing a 12 hour journal on my own personal experience with my first dose of ultraset after packing for a brown recluse spider bite.
I was experiencing severe pain in my left buttock altho the bite and sugury were on my outer left leg, seems the packing is putting pressere on a nerve so the doctor prescribed ultraset oral tabs for my pain which by the way is now gone!
About only 15 minutes of taking my first dose I could feel the effects of the medication which by the way was and still is very nice!!! :) my roommate asked me if I was feeling up or down and I had to answer that I felt both up and down at the same time.
I could see how this drug will deffinatly be in high demand once the word gets out. the best I can say is that ultraset was for my pain what prozac is for the depresed! what a new mirriacle drug this stuff is!
For the person who experiences any of the reported adverse side effects such as dizzyness or paranoia I would advise them to simply take a long deep breath, think plesent thoughts and enjoy the great feeling! wow!!!!
