I have been on Kariva (generic for Mircette) birth control for about 6 years now, I started when I was a junior in high school because of all the symptoms associated with irregular cycles. For the first 3 years I believed it was a miracle drug because my ability to focus increased, my cramps were few and far between, and I felt less moody. BUT...increasingly now over the past couple years it seems like the pill is losing it's effects. I also started having horrible migraines at least once a month, sometimes twice...and my doctor was not sure why, so she decided to cut me off from the birth control "just in case" and within a couple weeks I became very emotional, had cramps, and had trouble focusing in my college classes. I went back to my doctor and she put me right back on the pill...but it seems like ever since that happened, I haven't fully gotten back to the state I was in before the migraines started. After seeing this thread, I am wondering if withdrawal may be the cause of how my body and mind felt after going off the birth control...maybe if I had held out longer, those symptoms would have died off. OR, maybe the birth control dosage needs to be increased, but I'm worried that could make things worse or increase dependency later on.

Does anyone have advice about what would be the best course of action? My doctor seems smart, but I feel like no one really knows the answer to fixing "myself", to feeling at least sane again...and I really need these migraines to go away because they are getting worse and becoming very hard to handle emotionally, and physically...and financially.

I switched my birth control from the pill to nuvaring a little over five months ago. I am a graduate student/research assistant and have been in a great relationship for 3 years. I know myself and I know my body, SOMETHING WAS SEVERELY WRONG. I knew there was something happening inside me. I have been off nuvaring for almost two weeks and I feel significantly better. These were my symptoms:

PHYSICAL:
-severe leg pains
-pains in my arms
-chest pains
-shortness of breath
-headaches
-blurred vision
-weight gain
-rapid heart beat

EMOTIONAL:
-depression
-anxiety
-feeling of hopelessness
-easily discouraged
-rapid mood swings
-withdrawl from talking to people
-feeling like a burden to others
-paranoia

I had never felt like this before, and I thought I was going crazy. I could not explain what was happening. If you feel any of these symptoms, talk to your doctor immediately! Physical symtoms could be signs of blood clots, which can result in death. And even more painful were the emotional side effects. If you are feeling any thing like this please talk to someone or even email me! Nothing will happen if you take the ring out early, but definitely consult a doctor. If you do take the ring out, please be safe and use a condom. You are not alone! Everyone's body is different and sometimes we need to listen to what our bodies are trying to tell us.

i used nasonex as needed for alergies for about six months. i was having migranes for about two weeks. i dont think i used nasonex the whole two weeks. one morning i woke up and i couldnt see out of my right eye and my head fealt terrible. i hadnt been sleeping well, so i took an ibuprophen and had a cup of coffee and 20 minutes later, my sight had come back. the next morning i had the same problem, so i took and ibuprophen and waited. i waited all day and finaly at about 8 at night i went into the emergency room. i have been tested for every disease out there and i had no answers for why i lost my vision in the right eye. about six months later (when i very rapidly lost most of my vision in the left eye) i was diagnosed with chronic steroid dependent autoimmune optic neuritis. i have wondered thinking back if the nasonex was responsible for the steroid dependancy, but i guess there is no way to be sure. if anyone has anything to tell me or a simmilar story to tell me email me at ******

I have been on Celexa for 4 years have had all of the above side effects plus very weird and scary dreams, have gotten used to all side effects other than the sexual side effects I HAVE NO SEX DRIVE at all and if I did have not had an orgasm in over 6 months. I also sweat profusly and I have stopped taking the medicine while pregnant and had VERY BAD panic attacks. I have grown a true dependancy to Celexa.
