I just found this site. I have had all the mentioned side affects too, but I have so many health problems besides the Diabetes I am on the Lisinopril for, that I never know if the symptoms are from a med or a health problem I have. My BP was never very high but my dr put me on this "to protect my kidneys" and said I HAVE to take a BP med to do that, or my kidneys would stop functioning. MY PROBLEM now is, I cannot get my Diabetes under control. I have been thru 2 drs and the last one just told me to get lost when I refused to go on insulin injections. At this time I do not have another dr yet. My Psoriasis has flared up again and my skin on my face is so dry I have red/scaly patches on my nose and down all around my mouth. My skin is getting drier and drier. It seems like I am drying up. I have been drinking lots of water and putting salves/lotions on my face and it is not helping. My daughter called me last night and told me to check out my BP medicine as she read that some can cause high blood sugar. My blood sugar keeps jumping all over the place. It drops to 165 then may go up to 225 the next day. Has any one else had problems with this medicine and Diabetes?
I am 63 yrs old and am in poor physical condition because of Lymes Disease and other health problems. So I do not know which of these symptoms are from this medicine or from other health problems I have. I did find out that the Diabetic medicine Metformin depletes you of B12, so I am now on spray B12 500/equal to shots. NOW I read that this medicine will deplete you of Potassium. Please let me know if you have Diabetes and this medicine makes it worse.

There are a lot of negative experiences on here, so I thought I should share my positive one. I have been on birth control off and on for about 6 years. I was on orthotricyclin for the majority of the time-off and on. After getting horrible near migraine headaches on orthotricylin every Friday before my period for about 5 months in a row my doctor and I decided to try a different pill. I was on trilevelin (sp) for 4 months and gained a few pounds and felt easily irritated and emotionally different-just cried easily and not myself. I've been on Yasmin for a month and have had a great experience. I lost the water weight I'd gained and just verified with my boyfriend that my PMS was hardly even there. Everyone is different and has different hormone levels, but so far I am very happy with Yasmin. I've been migraine free tthe whole month!

I'm aged 51 and have had high blood cholesterol for years, diagnosed in my mid thirties. Over the years I have tried changing diet but it didn't reduce tha bad cholesterol. Three years ago I decided maybe I better reduce the cholesterol as they say it clogs up you arteries etc. I went to the doctor and he put me on Lipitor and within a few months my levels were down to normal. I got joint pains in my hands, back, neck , legs and had sore heels after long walks. The doc then decided I'd go off the Lipitor to see if my levels stayed normal but they went back up. After a week the new pains had gone away. I came up with a plan to take 3 x 10mG a week rather than one each day and this worked with a lot less joint pain. The last test I had my levels are back up again so he put me back on 10mG a day and now three weeks later the pains have built back up and I don't like them. Desperate for a different solution I was listening to one of the Juice Plus promotions and something they said set me thinking. They said that having a high level of bad cholesterol doesn't always mean it will badly affect your arteries as it has to react with free radicals in your body to cause the damage. Their theory is that a diet rich in antioxidants will combat the free radicals and generally reduce the risk of disease which also includes any bad effects from high bad cholesterol. Now I'm wondering two things, how do I know if my high cholesterol is causing me any harm? is there a test I can get done to measure how it is or is not affecting me? Can anyone throw any more light on this?

Cure for side effects? CoQ 10 helped me it could help you to. I don't think the private mail on this site works. You can contact me: seekers999@hotmaildotcom if you're a real person you know what to do with the"dot"... "." But nobody needs me, do the research yourself! checkout coq-10 and how lipitor and other statin drugs deplete your body of it causing muscle atrophy. (see my previous post for link)
I don't recommend websites or charge (even though I'm on social security disability w/kids and financially challanged ;-) I;m just trying to help people get better by pointing them in the right direction.
I was crippled up on crutches! Worst pain in my life! Couldn't even get to the bathroom 15' away WITH THE CRUTCHES!! If felt like muscle was tearing with each step, within a week the pain was gone!! The mental fog was gone also and I quit taking the Prozac, but this might have been also due to the Acetyl-L Carnititne.(500mg 3X a day)
I just know that stopping the lipitor didn't stop the pain and confusion!
God Bless all as they try and work their way through these terrible side effects! Remember I had to increase the coq 10 to 900mg a day before I saw benefits on the 3rd day.... There is hope! I hope it works for you!

Lipitor NOT EFFECTIVE ON WOMEN!!
"Again and again, clinical studies have failed to show that the use of statins lowers cardiovascular risk in women who do not already have coronary heart disease or diabetes"
I am a 53 year old male on disability for a bad back and atributed a lot of my symptoms to my back. Leg pains, leg cramps, foot pains and extreme fatigue... Also occasional mental fogginess to depresion as I was on Prozac for depresion... When the side effects hit the hardest I was literally crippeled and barely able to get around on crutches although limited to one level of our split level home, the stairs were TOO MUCH. I had stopped the Lipitor immediately put that didn't help, the pain was overwhelming despite the Hydrocodone #10 I was taking 4-6 a day!! (I previously took 1 per day max) I found on the internet how statin drugs deplete the body of CoQ-10 and cause the muscles to atrophy.
For results of CoQ-10 see my other post...
I don't list website where I get mine because I don't want anyone to think I have anything to gain by making these posts. I am sharing what worked for me and got me out of a period of paid so intense. I only want to help others.
I had to find a cheaper place to buy because I'm on social security disabilty with kids and I don't get enough money to be able to buy it any where else so now maybe I can help them another way too. God Bless all who have been effected by this drug and may you have a complete recovery, if you refuse to quit taking it, supplement with coq-10 even drs and pharmacists agree (that know what they're talking about)

Kim,
I totally agree with Sarah! And another thing: You should really try to stop caring that much about what others say or think about you!! One very important thing, Kim!! Only you can feel, what you need right now and if it's the Lexapro, than you should try.
And as I know, what we all are or were going through I'm sure, that you're not weak, if you don't get through this nightmare without help!! Looking back I really don't know, how I stood all this without medication (ok, besides my Valerian, which I had always with me for about 6 months, just to know, that I had them with me, most of the time already helped....). And believe me: Some days I thought "Please give me ANYTHING, I WILL TAKE IT, I can't stand this any longer!" And I think the only reason, why I nevertheless took nothing was, that I knew, that my body didn't tolerate this kind of medication.
Everything went even worse only after taking one of that pills (they tried to put me on an antidepressant in hospital because of my very bad constitution!!)... But this also happened WHILST TAKING YASMIN! So it might be, that my body would react different about that stuff today...
Kim, I wish you best of luck, that the Lexapro will help you somehow through those hard times. But nevertheless I'm also sure, that you won't have to take it over a very long time!!
Sounds very interesting, what your pharmacist told you! One thing I found out first about Yasmin and bcp in general: They deplete you nutritionally, which makes things as anxiety, weakness, dizzyness and everything else definitely much worse!! And I think the fact, that makes Yasmin even worse than other bcp is that diuretic in it!! The more water we loose, the more electolytes and vitamines we loose!! And I wondered for so long why I had to get up sometimes 2 times at night with an urge to urinate.......
Best wishes to you Kim and all the others and keep it up!! We're all on the right way, I'm sure!!

To Twinkle, yes, I had all those side effects.
If you are not taking CoQ10 please starts right now. It's available without Rx at any pharmacy or drug store. Lipitor is known to deplete the body's store of this important substance which is also known as Ubiquinone. A new statin is being developed which includes it. I'd talk to your doc about easing off the Lipitor or at the very least cutting the dose before you do permanent nerve damage like I fear I have done.
Good luck!!

Dear flower babies.
i have only onepiece of advice GET OFF THIS POISON NOW before it kills you. i wsa going through everything you have said and more and it got worse and worse. I was on ysamin for 3 years only experiencing like you did after a while not straight away. I have been off yasmin now since nov 05 and its been a low haul and many times i just wanted to lay down and die and yet i came back to this site each and very day and got encouragement from those around here who had been there. Get off now and start regaining your life again. I would get on a good mulitvitamin immediately and some magnesium to help rebuild all htat has been deplete. Its not going to be easy but start now and in time you will be able to cope with your children again i know i have 3 and it was so hard in the beginning and now its getting better even though i still have those bad days but more good than bad.

I took Advair for almost 5 years and just recently decided the side effects just weren't worth it. With each year on Advair I developed more side effects. I knew I had to try some other medication and as the FDA put more and more warnings on Advair, I decided it was time to make my move.
Within the first 3 months of taking Advair I began having terrible muscle cramps in my calves which bothered me at rest, so it started taking longer and longer for me to fall asleep due to this pain. Serevent can deplete your body's level of potassium which these cramps are the result. What my doctor told me. I lived with these cramps b/c I thought the benefits of Advair outweighed this side effect. I was wrong. As the yrs went by these cramps got worse and worse and then the other side effects started showing up.
Advair had always made me hyper and increased my anxiety but the problem just started getting worse and worse. By last fall, I had horrible overbreathing like panting from any exertion even climbing a flight of stairs. My asthma was never that bad before.
I also developed a fast and irregular heartbeat, seemed to skip a beat and had hand tremors.
I recently started taking Asmanex and haven't ever felt better. My muscle cramps went away after 3 days off Advair and slowly the other symptoms went away as well.

I would strongly suggest that anyone taking Maxide or the generic medication supplement it with potassium. I know that it is not supposed to deplete the potassium and other electrolytes, but it can. Since potassium is water soluble, the body flushes out what it doesnt need so it wont hurt you and will probably help eliviate a lot of the side effects, namely cramps, dizziness, light-headedness, anxiety, aggitation, fatigue, and so on. Start off with the recomended dosage and increase after a day or so if you dont see results. As soon as I feel any of these side effects, I take potassium until they go away. It takes about an hour for it to get into your system so give it time to work. Most people dont realize the importance of potassium and that most of us are at a deficient of it. Also, magnesium helps the body retain and absorb potassium, so you may need that too. I'm not a dr. I just want to share with others what has helped me. My husband is now a believer since he finally gave in and started taking potassium and hasnt had a migraine since. Until then, he had them almost daily for years and the drs couldnt find a cause and nothing else helped.

Prometrium may have been what I was given about 20 years ago. The shot for my disc herniation was injected directly into my spine. First one - an anesthesiologist shot directly in the spine above the injury and let gravity do the rest - helped a bit, but wore off quick. Last two shots - The Dr. used an x-ray m/c and dye to guide the injected fluid right there where the herniated goo lays on the sciatic nerve. It usually takes 4-5 days for the full effect - no sciatic pain - to take hold. Took care of the pain wonderfully, just "little reminders" every now and then. Those I can handle. But when I had the kenalog for allergies years ago, it was in my butt cheek. I've never had an indent and have never heard of this before! Grumpy, quick-tempered and a bit weepy would be good words to describe some side effects. Extreme tension - little things set me off that normally don't matter at all. Screaming all day - I can definitely identify with that feeling after a shot. Not having that this time - I have prayed for that not to happen this time - As far as a waiver - yes. They never describe fully what the side effects are. When I was young and taking them for allergies - my doctor said there were no side effects. Well, I fell into depression a while after and began taking Zoloft. I eventually found an article in a magazine which confirmed that corticosteroids deplete serotonin in the brain - hence - I am still taking anti-d's......Just take it easy and try not to move wrong or overdo it after the shot - I think I got to excited at feeling good and may have reinjured it. I hope this is the last one.

I have just started taking Lamictal and typically have sensitivity to meds. I take it for mood stabalization along with effexor xr 150 mg. Moy dose of Lamictal is only 75mg right now. But I have been getting acne again which I haven't had to deal with in over a year and a half. I go my occassional pms pimple or two even but now I am constinantly fighting the blemishes, including a couple of new ones on my back which I haven't gotten in probably 7 years. Frustrated is an understatement. But it is good to hear others are experiencing similar systems and I am not as confused finding the cause for this. Memory loss, lack of focus, disorientation, confusion are also the scarier of the side effects I have been experiencing. Today something new and very scary happened. For a split second I had to grab my desk at work cause I literally felt like the room was spinning. Not see swirls or anything but like when your on the til-a whirl at the amusement part. Does anyone have any idea what that could have been? I have been feeling a bit dizzy since also. Anything neurological really scares me. Does anyone also know what other mood stabilizers if they have taken any have little side effects from their experience?

I was on Yasmin for a month and a half with little side effects (lack of sex drive, that's about it). After the middle of the second pack, I started having heart palpitations. They went away the first time.
The second time it happened, I had to go to the ER. My heart was racing 200 beats per minute! I had a spend a WEEK in the hospital. The only thing that has changed in my life was the birth control. My gynocologist said it couldn't be the Yasmin.
The hospital said I can feel free to quit taking the Yasmin (which I did) but they didn't know if that was what was causing my problems.
My friend is a pharmicist and she has found some possible links to Yasmin and heart palpitations. Someone on these boards touched on it... it had to do with postassium levels getting depleted by the Yasmin and the heart racing accodingly. There's a dieretic (?) in the birth control that is supposed to keep water retention down. But, it can deplete your potassium levels which can cause heart palpitations.
The doctors diagnosed me with PSVT. I have two follow-ups the next two weeks.
I think it was the Yasmin and I hope that since I have stopped, the heart problems will, too. I'm on four pills a day and I hate it.

Been doing more research on Lisinopril and found out that it doesn't deplete you of Potassium, but makes too much in your blood. So maybe it was good that I quite eating a 1/2 banana and switched to 1/2 apple for a snack.
