I had the Mirena put in November 2008. And this is the WORST birth control I have EVER had. I have uterin contractions, hot flashes (im 19 yrs old) No sex drive, bitchy, and no period for over 6 months. and nothing is getting better. So I got the depo shot which is 99.7% effective. And no side effects. I wouldn't ever recommend this birth control.

I've had my Mirena for about 2 1/2 years. I've tried other forms of b.c. such as several versions of the pill, the patch, the ring, the depo shot, etc. Mirena has been the best choice for me by far. I am having it removed in the next month though not because of any dissatisfaction with it; my husband and I are ready to have our third child. Initially it did cause some severe uterine cramping; however, once that subsided it was fabulous. My periods are gone and I don't have to worry about keeping up with have I or haven't taken my b.c. There seem to be many women who have experienced severe side effects from Mirena. Just remember if it doesn't work for you there are many options out there. Once I have my third child, I will not get Mirena again. I want a more permanent solution, i.e. sterilization. Good luck to all in your quest for finding a b.c. that works for you!

I used NuvaRing for 1 year and 5 months before I threw in the towel. At first it was great. No weight gain, no change in my cycles, no problem during intercourse, everything was perfect... a great alternative to a pill. Until I started taking NuvaRing in 2008 I had not been on any birth control. The last time I was on anything was in 2000 after the birth of my only daughter. In 2000 I used Depo Provera (spelling?) and had horrible side effects from that. I had extreme hair loss & the worst mood swings you could imagine. I knew that his time around I didn't want the Depo shot & I can't remember to take a pill everyday. I struggle to take a full round of antibiotics without accidentally forgetting a dose. After talking to my Gyno in 08 I decided to try NuvaR. After getting my 6 mo. checkup with my doctor we decided to keep me on it since I was pleased with the results. So months went by, still no problem. Then one afternoon I started getting a pain in my left side that was the worst achey/uncomfortable nagging pain I had ever felt. I started to keep a log of when my pain would come & how long it lasted before it finally subsided. After a few weeks I began looking through the internet to find out more of my anatomy & try to come up with an idea of what was causing my strange pain. As it turns out the pain was in the same area as my spleen & a little piece of the liver comes across to the left side as well. I knew that this was not a kidney issue since I am prone to kidney infections at least 3 times a year. I know kidney pain & this was not it. My boyfriend started complaining about how I was always complaining about not feeling well. When we started dating in July of 08 I was somewhat outgoing, always going here or there for any get together-friends from work, daughters cheer stuff, jazz shows, beach etc. He was tired of me being tired. That is when we started wondering if I had anemia. The spleen pain could have been explained by that. Or maybe it was my gall blader we thought. I started looking for signs & symptoms but nothing was obvious. I just dealt with the pain in my side and wondered too if I was developing a stomach ulcer. Then one day my shins started hurting for no apparent reason. Then it was the forearm bones. I literally hurt inside my bones. The shins were the most painful of all. It hurt to walk, I couldn't get comfortable sitting, lying, standing, sleeping & I was at my whitts end. After talking about it with my boyfriend he said that I needed to go ahead & make an appointment because my quality of life has been reduced to zilch. I was always uncomfortable with pain or aches or moody. I went to see my doctor. Of course when I went I had a UTI, as usual-nothing abnormal about that. I told him about all my pain so we ran some tests. He did some blood work & saw that my white blood cells were through the roof. We decided to culture my urine specimen & a few days later we found I had a MRSA staff UTI. Typically you get these if you are catheterized but I fell into the unlucky 5% that just get it w/o any reason. (In the back of my mind I still wonder if NuvaRing had anything to do with it.) So, I took all the antibiotics making sure not to miss a dose. 14 days later at a check up I still had a little bit of bacteria in my urine & we ran more blood tests. My white count was even higher. Now my doctor takes my bone pain & side pain more seriously. The infection was getting better but my body was fighting something else or was it? He decided to check my kidneys by ultrasound to make sure there were no cycts. They also did a full abdominal ultrasound to look at the spleen & liver for enlargement. No enlargement but possibly a little kidney stone. Then I had an appointment with an infectious disease/internal medicine Dr. He made sure my infection was gone. I told him about all my weird pain & he ran a lot of blood work. White count still high, did a lap stain to look for leukosytes for leukemia, all was clear. So, after a week, off for a CT I went to check on the stone. Of course no stone on CT. Finally my boyfriend said hey, don't put a ring in this month & see if that's the problem. Sure enough after spending soooo much on all the tests after I took it out I was back to my old self in about a months time. I still had a pain in my side once in a while for the first 2-3 months but I have been completely symptom free now for 4 mos! The only worry I have now is that I started gaining weight after I stopped taking it. I have gained 20 lbs (some of that is because I got lazy & lethargic for so long) and my hair is beginning to come out more often in clumps again. I have an area thinning in my eyebrow & my nails are breaking more easily. I think I need to go get my thyroid checked. Yet again, I can't help but wonder- was it caused by the NuvaRing? Have I damaged myself thanks to what was supposed to be a great easy alternative to a pill? I guess we'll see how it goes. Never again will I use it, nor will I recommend it to anyone. Oh, and my love life is great again, I go places & do things again now. It's amazing how far I spiraled down before we realized it was preventable. DON'T USE THE RING!

I have to say I am SHOCKED over this site but had to read every bit of it. I am a TRUE believer in the Mirena and until I came across this site while searching for sites to send a friend to encourage the Mirena I never knew how many horrible things could happen for someone on the Mirena. HOWEVER, I guess this is proof when with any type of birth control including Mirena it is said it's not for everyone. I happen to LOVE mine. I'm actually on my 2nd insertion. My first one went very well, after a crampy insertion and 2 days of horrible cramps controlled by ibuprofin I was left to enjoy 5 years of birth control w/out problems. I can't take the pill as no matter the dose I spend the 1st to weeks nauseated and vomiting in the morning, I tried the Depo Shot (personally that is the EVIL OF ALL EVIL birth control methods, gained 68 pounds in 11mnts never going over 105 pounds except for pregnancy in my life, have battled to control my weight since therefore I believe it destroyed my metabolism forever, major depression to the point of medication and medical leave from work & the world). And after an accident pregnancy no way was condoms going to be enough for me. My Dr. recommended Mirena and I gave it a try. I was not lucky enough to go period free my first insertion I did have a max of 3 days of period with little or no cramping. My second not as good, I now have about 5 days of spotting only if sex promotes it and occasionally after using the bathroom a little blood on the toilet paper, never needing to actually use any feminine products. I use to get ovarian cysts all the time, small enough surgery was only needed once but I knew when one was there and I knew one they "popped" as my doctor would call it. I haven't had that problem since I started with Mirena, I'm told its due to the small amount of hormones (hence the reason my Dr suggested Mirena versus a non hormone IUD). My sex drive has not been affected one bit...in fact like one of the positive posts I just read...my husband and I have discussed more then once prior to coming across this site how much more of a sex drive I do have, although we contributed it to not being pulled down in the dark world of depression from the Depo shot...and the freedom of placed once & forget for 5 years type birth control. I have 8 friends and coworkers that have the Mirena...One person had a problem, hers "fell out" in the toilet and she had been cramping and in abdominal pain for a few days prior not connecting it to her Mirena...but after 2 months of other methods she had another one placed and has had no problem since...that was 2 years ago. It stinks to hear how horrible this "wonder bc method" is for others...(are you seeing how terrible the other methods were for me first for me to feel this is the wonder of all wonders) and of course I'm concerned with the fact that most of you that had a problem had SEVERE problems..not just a small one here or there. But I'm going to bet that on the flip side the methods that caused me hell might work for one of you. I have 2 more years left on this 2nd cycle...I pray I never have the problems you do if I chose a 3rd insertion...however, with science today we can only hope your complaints are taken seriously and the makers of Mirena continue to improve so that less and less people run into these side effects. I'm not sure I would have another option...SCARY!

I am 30 and had the Mirena put in after my 3rd child. It was fine at first but then a few weeks after I had it put in my period started and it continued for about 7 weeks and they are still abnormal. Years ago I was on the Depo shot, and I am noticing many of the same symptoms with this IUD that I had with the shot. I am so bloated and uncomfortable. I have gained about 15 pounds in a matter of a few weeks and exercising doesn't seem to be helping at all. I have also been having more headaches and migraines than normal. I am definitely going to get mine taken out!

I loved the convenience of the Depo shot. Once every three months, schedule your appointment, and you're good to go! My breast size increased by a full cup size, and I gained almost 30 pounds by the end of it... I was on Depo for over 3 years. In my life, I never fluctuated past 120 pounds. On the Depo, I ballooned to 150 lbs. My appetite was insatiable!

I have been considering the Mirena on the advice of a GYN specialist due to my fibroids (heavy bleeding/clots-hugh). When the doctor describe it, it sounded like something I might consider. But I told him I wanted to do some research on my own and discuss with my husband. I am currently taking the Depo-shot which my insurance doesn't cover - reason for considering Mirena- anyway after reading this blog, I know I am not getting the Mirena, might as well stay with the Depo side effects similar. I think in the end I may opt for the ExAblate procedure. WOW what we women have to endure. But I thank God for this site.

cannot believe how many stories I have read about mirena and hair loss etc..etc.. etc.. I have experienced many of the side effects that everyone is mentioning.. I actually feel I could live with most of them if it weren't for the hair loss. I have had ( copying from other post.. ridiculous right?)Tired all the time ~ Depression ~ Hungry all the time ~ leg cramps ~ HAIR LOSS TO THE POINT OF BALDING IN SEVERAL AREAS ~ oily skin and bad breakouts ~ Mood swings (huge...yelling fits at my husband and the kids) ~ fluttering in uterus~Sore breasts.. I have medium thick hair that is about 10 inches. I noticed a bald spot in June and now have discovered 4-5 others starting. I just had the iud removed today and my OB pretty much tried to convince me that there is no way that the IUD is causing my issues. I have never had any of these issues before. I got the Mirena on 4/30 of 08 and noticed slowly but surely all of the side effects mentioned. My OB told me that the progesterone could not be causing my issues because it is such a small dosage that it would be comparable to spitting in the ocean as far as the amount that is in my blood stream. She said because I am black and 35 that I may have an autoimmune disorder and that I should stop reading blogs. I told her that all of my research wasn't from a blog and that ALOPECIA is a side effect just not mentioned in my pamphlet that I can find. I understand what she is saying and that she is the one that is the dr. but nobody knows my body better than I do.. I am in it!! I have !never had any problems and have been healthy my entire life. There is no history of autoimmune disease in my family. I am going to my primary care doctor.. to have some blood tests done. I think that the mirena has caused an autoimmune response in my body.. it may not necessarily be the progesterone..although I don't rule it out no matter what she says . the progesterone is synthetic and has an androgynous like activity that is similar to testosterone the main thing that causes male pattern baldness. also Mirena is made out of Silicone.. perhaps those of us that are having hair loss are having it due to our body trying to fight off the foreign invader of the IUD itself. I was going to go and have the Paragard inserted.. because i was thinking it may just be the progesterone.. nope... I read that many women are complaining of ACNE and HAIRLOSS even with that because its made out of copper. So with that being said.. not sure what to do.. may have to go back on Yasmin.. didn't seem to have any problems with that.. I really just don't want to risk putting another hormone in my body.. We all need to get together and look into a class action suit because I am tired of being made to feel crazy by doctors.. sometimes what seems to not be possible is .. especially when there are so many women having the same problem. Feel free to e-mail me re: a class action suit.. if they took depo off Mirena needs to come of too. It seems like it has really screwed a lot of peoples system up.. Hopefully I won't find out I know have a thyroid problem etc.. etc..

I had the Mirena IUD inserted at my 6 week check up after having my second daughter (who I got pregnant with while on the patch by the way). The day i got it put in I had really bad cramps and thought there was no way I was going to be able to keep it in but the next day I woke up and didn't feel a thing. I haven't had any weird or severe side effects that I have noticed and my daughter is about to turn 3 in a couple weeks. My periods do seem to come more frequently, about every two and a half to three weeks, but they are very light and only last couple days. I've found that it is very difficult for me to lose weight on birth control in general but I haven't experienced any weight gain on Mirena (as opposed to the 50 pounds I gained in the 4 months I was on the depo shot after my first daughter!). All in all I would have to say that the Mirena has been the best birth control method that I have tried so far. I am considering having it removed next year but only because we're thinking about having one more baby.

i have read a lot of these posts 7 its kinda freaked me out b/c im currently taking loestrin & i jus finished my 1st pack. i have light to heavy spotting everyday. i know most females wil began 2 spot 1st when they are taking a birth control that can decrease your period. i also feel moody & sort of depressed but i feel other things in my life are causing that. my cramps aren't as ad as when im not on bc. my breast are tender to but no acne, acne has never been a problem for me, thank god!lol. ut the only think that really bothers me is the constant spotting! i was on the shot, depo-provera for 2 yrs. straight. u get the shot once every 3 months. i spotted at first for like a month & then it began 2 decrease & my period stopped all together but still had increase breast size, extreme weight gain, cramps(not unbearable ones), & the worst migraines. these are jus typical side effects of birth control. i liked the depo shot cuz i didn't have a period or had 2 remember 2 take a pill everyday but the side effects are probably not worth that bargain. the any birth control especially the shot that stops your period & you take it for years straight can make you sterile i have a cousin who had a few miscarriages b/c of it b/c the shot might not ware of from a month to a year causing sterility. the shot also can cause bone density. im just so fed up w/ irth control b/c they all have a bad side effect. i hope they can invent something w/ way less side effects because the negative out ways the positives with most if not all birth controls but i guess im gonna try loestrin for a while before i give up on it.

I thought I was going crazy, but I guess this is the norm...I got my mirena inserted about 3wks ago after my son and ever since then my period has been on everyday, the cramps are terrible and it caused a bacterial infection. I'm considering having it removed. I was on the depo for 3 yrs but I was tired of getting injected every 3mths.....should I give it a little more time?

I am a 25 y/o mother of 5 boys, and my youngest is 8 months old now, and I had mirena inserted in Jan. 2009. I also I have lupus, so my hair falls out when I am pregnant or breastfeeding, but I delivered in Nov. 2008, and stopped breastfeeding in May 2009, and since I quit breastfeeding, my hair falling out has only gotten worse. The first 4 months that it was in, I had a heavy non-stop period. Now I get a 7-8 day period twice a month. In between my lengthy periods, I have a discharge that smells really weird. My partner tries to be understanding, but it's difficult for him I know. He says I have permanent PMS, and that I'm pushing him away. My mood swings from happy to sad to out right angry at the drop of a dime. It's kinda scary really, especially since I work around people and can't afford to have a break down out of nowhere. My partner also said he can feel the threads from the mirena sticking him when we have sex, and that it hurts him. On top of that, whenever we have sex, I always start bleeding for a couple of days (2-3) w/ real bad cramping. I have also had weight loss instead of gain, I get body chills, nausea, irritability, and the list could go on forever. I also had a bad experience w/ the depo shot, and I'm not good w/ pills, so I am looking for another form of birth control that isn't permanent because we would still like to try for a girl one day, just not now .... HELP ME!

i had the Mirena inserted in Feb '09. first off, it hurt very badly going in. On my way home from the doctors, i was cramped over and swearing from the pain.

CRAMPING every day (mainly in the morning and seem more severe when dehydrated from booze the night before. BLEEDING everyday, all day- not much but always there. WEIGHT GAIN- i have always been skinny and felt skinny- but now I have weight in places I never had it before- even my one ankle looks swollen. I lost my job (b/c i blew up at my boss) and have been real lazy and tired ever since, but after reading these other comments, may be related.

I admit that I have been sexually active (unprotected) with more than a couple people since, which is an IUD no-no. BUT I was tested for IUD infections before it was inserted, and ordered a sonogram which showed a swollen ovary and cists (which I have always had cists and no problems like these) I was on the DEPO SHOT for the past 8 yrs, the pill was horrible- pains related to blood clots so thought the IUD would be safer with less trips to the doctor. When i lost my job, i lost my health insurance.

I'M NOT SURE if i should have the IUD REMOVED????? seemed like the best thing for me, but not sure how long I can go on like this and can't afford further testing.

Please share any advice or similar problems. thank you.

i was on the depo shot, and LOVED it! for the first few months i spotted All throughout the month which got really annoying, but after a few months my periods stopped completely!! it was AMAZING!!!! i didn't gain any weight on the shot, but i was Always hungry and Never felt full. after going off of the shot i still didn't have a period at all for like 3 or 4 months! :D .... but then.... i started bleeding ALL the time. off one week, on for a whole week, off one week, on for a whole week...etc. this happened for 2 to 3 months. finally i went a gyn and she recommended that i go on yaz to regulate my period. ... it worked for a little while, but for the passed 3 or 4 months i bleed at least twice a month! both for about a week at a time. this sucks!! and sadly any hormone makes me a little moody :/ i was at a really steady weight of 111 and sky rocketed to 120 when i went on the pill. i go to the gym at least 2 to 3 times a week (as i did before i started the pill)... and im down to 115. but it seems to want to stay at 115 :/ so still a little weight gain involved. sometimes my sex drive is super amazing to where i almost climax at the snap of a finger. but lately... a lot lately, its almost impossible to climax! :( which is super disappointing and frustrating!. (any advice for the climaxing part? :( lol seriously. ) ... i don't want to go off of birth control, because sadly i Hate rubbers! my mom wanted me to try microgestin cause i bleed a lot on yaz, but those pills don't look or sound appealing to me. any suggestions?? lol... overall i would recommend either yaz or the depo shot. both have ups and downs. :)

I got my IUD a yr ago in March 2008. The only contraception that had the least side effects for me was the Depo shot, but my doctor said I shouldn't use it too long consecutively. He suggested the Mirena. I had my doubts because of the stories I heard. But I personally knew two women who had got it, and had no real problems. So I took a chance. I went in, the first time the doctor couldn't put it in cause I was moving, it felt like strong contractions when he tried putting it in, so he gave me muscle relaxer for next time. But that didn't work and a procedure that says takes minutes, took an hour and half way through I told the doctor to stop because I was having contracting pains. He said no turning back it was almost in place. It finally got placed, and I bled so heavily for weeks non-stop and went through numerous pads each day and I went to the doctor two weeks after and said I wanted out, he promised symptoms would subside, to give it three months. So I did, and came back wanting it out, he said give it another three months. So I did and just stuck with having periods 19 days apart for two weeks long. I was always Pmsing, always bleeding until I switched docs this year and asked my new doctor to remove it. This thing has ruined me. I had two surgeries to get it out. First was a DNC, and the doctor wasn't sure she got it all out, because the ultrasound I received did not show anything. She was concerned that it may have perforated my uterus and went outside. So I got an XRAY which showed it was in my stomach just sitting there, not near the bladder cause it could have caused damage. So she scheduled a laproscopy surgery with a small incision but told me to prepare for the worse in case she couldnt get it that way .Sure enough, the worse was inevitable and she had to cut me open, they found the IUD stuck to my incision and my uterus and intestines were stuck to my abdominal wall. I am now recovering for six weeks and terrified of any other birth control.

IT'S OUT!!!!!!!!!!! What a mess I went through. For those who missed my prior posts, I got my Mirena in June 2008 after I got married. Even though I'm 29, I'm a medical student and not ready for a baby.. Within weeks I had oily skin, oily hair, hair loss, sore breasts, and no sex drive at all. But I never had a single period after the second month, so I was happy!

By August or September I was gaining a lot of weight (20lbs) and started feeling "brain fog" and fatigue. By December and January I was seeing neurologists for SEVERE migraines and dizziness. In April I developed symptoms like MS such as tingling/numbness in my head, face, and one foot... profound fatigue, and incapacitating dizziness.I've had every test done from thyroid workups to MRIs/MRAs and nerve conduction studies. I was on 3 different migraine prescriptions and was even getting nerve blocks in my neck for them.

In May I became withdrawn, irritable, depressed, and had anxiety attacks. I'm not ever a moody person, and never had PMS. But here I am, crying for no reason, yelling at my husband, snapping at my mother, and SO FREAKING EXHAUSTED that going to work is impossible, driving the car seems dangerous (severe brain fog.... like I'm drugged), and even just doing the dishes or feeding the pets takes all my effort (with tears) to complete. I don't feel like myself at all.

I found this website and thought perhaps all these symptoms were from the Mirena. So I found a new OBGYN who was awesome and said he'd take it out. I went to have it removed but the first a$$hole who put it in for me cut the strings too short so they could not be grabbed. The new doc tried to reach them but couldn't. I ended up having to have THE MOST PAINFUL PROCEDURE OF MY LIFE.... I had to take cervical dilation pills and then get a hysteroscopy which is where they shove a camera into your uterus to look around and find the little sucker. The cramps were unbelievable.... 10 times worse that getting it placed. (Mind you I've never had children so it was really bad). After he found the strings, he grabbed them and pulled. I thought I was going to die.... my poor cervix had a scope in it, an instrument holding it still, a dilator in place, a speculum in the hole, and then an instrument went in along side the scope and pulled the little bugger out. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I was in a hot sweat worse than menopause I bet!

So here I am, home, bleeding, only minor cramps. But now I wonder... how long will it be until the depression and brain fog go away? I want to be myself again. I want to be happy. I want to laugh instead of cry. I WANT TO HAVE ENERGY. My greatest fear is that I went through all the pain of putting it in, taking it out, and the cost, and the depression, fatigue, and brain fog won't go away, meaning it wasn't the Mirena to begin with. (If that was the case, I could have dealt with the weight gain, oily hair, and migraines as long as I had the nerve blocks). But I find it hard to believe that the Mirena is not the cause since so many of you women say the same thing. BUT.............. most of you had the Mirena placed after having a baby, so it's possible it was PPD?

THIS IS MY QUESTION TO ALL OF YOU OUT THERE.... did any of you WHO HAVE NEVER HAD CHILDREN have these things after getting the Mirena? Also, isn't it weird that the severe fatigue, depression, and really bad brain fog started after 9-10 months of having it and not sooner? I was on OCPs before the Mirena and did fine.... but this time I am so depressed and irritable, dizzy, and FREAKING TIRED TIRED TIRED.

:( How long until I feel better if it was the Mirena?

I started the depo shot in June 05. Had it for 6 months, blead the hole time and gained 35 lbs. So in Dec 05 we took it out, decided to try for a baby - which we didn't conceive till jan 06. after the baby was born in oct 07 I had the mirena put in. I have been feeling fine until the past maybe 8 months and it just keeps getting worse. I am so tired all the time that I just don't want to do anything and it is really difficult for me to even take care of the house and kids. My acne is awful. I have the worse headaches ever. I've recently developed more symptoms. - feeling nausea, really bad dry eyes, stomach spasms. I do have a light period every month but i actually look like i;m 4 or 5 months preg.

My doctor prescribed Loestrin24 to me after three failed attempts at other birth controls. I was on the Depo shot for about 9 months, and had my period for 4 months which is why we decided to switch. My period went away within 4 days of taking loestrin which was great. I haven't noticed any side-effects until now. I have been taking this pill for 1 month and 1 week, and for about 5 days I have been extremely rude and moody. I am having horrible stomach cramps that make me feel very depressed. I don't want to leave my bed, and I don't want to eat. I have lost 7 lbs in a little more than a week. My sex drive has increased, which is great, but the stomach pain and mood changes are too much for me. I just feel like giving up on birth control because nothing seems to work for me. If you have any suggestions for a better birth control pill I would appreciate it very much.

I have only had the Mirena a week and already gained 10 pounds. I was on the depo shot for 11 years and NEVER had a problem. I did take periodic breaks from the shot but I am having the mirena removed and going back to the shot, I will deal with the bone loss issue when it happens. I refuse to get fat when I do not overeat. Thank goodness we are military and don't have to pay.

I have been on NuvaRing since Feb 2008 when they made me come off the depo shot which I loved but had maxed out on the amount of time you are allowed to be on it. I chose the NuvaRing because I am a very forgetful person when it comes to pills and for the first few months it was great! My husband loved it because I went up a cup size which I was also okay with seeing as how they didn't hurt.
But last night enough was enough! For probably the last 6 months or so I had started seeing emotional side effects becoming increasingly moody and irritable...my husband also noticed this but was willing to except that I became a crazy person around the time to take it out and put it in. But since January my sex drive has disappeared completely! I am 23 and haven't had sex with my husband in almost 2 months because I physically have no desire for it. Even when we try I can't get into it.

So that's it...I would rather risk forgetting a pill and getting pregnant ( we may be trying soon anyways) than not be able to have sex at all and hurt my marriage both physically and mentally ( I am a mean person on this thing).

Hey, I had my mirena inserted back in Aug. I was excited cause it seemed like every time me and my husband held hands i was pregnant. I have 3 wonderful kids n being 26 years old 3 is enough. I have also been experiencing side effects. I always feel like i am daydreaming, my head feels funny, I have constant pain in my adnom, and around my belly button. My husband can feel it as well. I like the fact of not worrying about being pregnant for 5yrs, but is it worth being moody always feeling like crap. I am going to get it out and maybe go with the depo shot. I didn't gain weight with it and I just feel like the mirena has moved and its uncomfortable. I will also be looking at other options as well. If any one know other very effective options please post Thank you.....

I had the Mirena inserted July 2007. I thought the Mirena was the best invention ever! I have migraines so I could no longer continue taking the pill. My doctor and I discussed my options and we both thought the Mirena would be a good solution. I didn't want to have anymore kids but I was mentally ready to have my tubes tied. With the Mirena I would have lighter periods and no migraines and it lasted for 5 years. No remembering taking a pill every night. Sounded like a win-win situation to me. During the latter half of 2007 to early 2008, I gained 22 lbs. It appeared overnight (or that's how I felt). I blamed it on it being the holidays and eating too much. I increased my workouts, hired a personal trainer (not cheap) and dieted my butt off. I didn't lose a pound. Early this year my co-worker told me about this sight. She had the Mirena also. When I started reading the side affections that women were experiencing, everything started clicking into place. The weight gain. The hair loss. My hair grows like a weed. And I've been trying to grow my hair out for at least 8 months. It hasn't grown an inch even though I get my ends trimmed. The hair at the back of my head has broken off. It's shorter than the rest of my hair. I have ZERO sex drive. I'm moody (more than usual). I've made an appointment to have it removed Wednesday. I can't wait! I still don't know what I'm going to do about birth control.
