Like many of you on this forum, I am glad to have found this site! First though, I would like to say that I understand not every one taking Yasmin experiences the same side effects. I understand that some women probably have wonderful experiences with this medication. However, it frustrates me that while some women might have good experiences with this drug, I think the potential for SEVERE side effects other women could experience should be much more emphasized and researched. The pamphlet inside the Yasmin packaging briefly touches on what they advertise as rare side effects that overall outweigh the benefits of this drug. I think many of the side effects listed on this forum are not even mentioned in the packet. Personally, I believe I have had a horrible experience taking Yasmin for the past 8 months. It is very frustrating to take a medication that advertises itself to help symptoms (such as MOOD SWINGS) and in fact, causes many of these horrible symptoms in some women! I am so sick of the multi-billion dollar prescription drug industry (which seems severely under-regulated by the FDA.) Has anyone seen the fancy Yaz birth control commercial? You know, with the "we're not gonna take it" song? All those skinny models prancing around in a PMS-free world??? OMG PLEASE!!! I can't believe it has taken me this long to realize all of my horrible symptoms have started and only worsened during my time on Yasmin. I thought this pill wasn't related because my skin looks beautiful, I haven't had bad cramps anymore, I've had light periods, and my boobs have gotten bigger. Sounds great, huh? But since taking Yasmin I have also had such horrible mood swings I can't control myself. I feel like a completely different person. I've become extremely impatient, irritated by everyone on this planet, I can't concentrate, and I have looked so bloated at times several people assumed I was pregnant. My self-esteem is ridiculously low, I hate myself, my mirrors, and I accuse my loving boyfriend of the most ridiculous things. I don't see how he even puts up with me! I have become so depressed I rarely want to go out. I'm EASILY offended by the slightest comments and ridiculously paranoid. It is also very hard to go out when many of my clothes (even my "fat pants" do not fit anymore!) I have thought I was crazy, almost quit my job, left my boyfriend, and seriously wanted to kill myself. I'm aware that many of these symptoms could be caused by other things, but honestly, I have contemplated so many other potential causes (such as major depression) and I realize every thing has started during these past months I've been taking Yasmin. I am 21 years old, I do not smoke, and have generally great health. I feel entirely overwhelmed...I honestly don't know what to do.

Okay after reading everyone's posts, I want to cry ha ha. I have just completed my first month of Loestrin24fe- I still haven't gotten my period- tomorrow will be a week. I feel like I have the symptoms- it's just not there. I expected this to happen since my body is confused with the change, however now I am nervous that I will not get it at all this cycle and it will just skip to the next. I was previously on Ortho Tri -cyclen Lo. I was nauseous a lot, the occasional migraine, my sex drive was not great, and I had some mood swing/depression problems. I went on Lexapro for that- decided to drop it since I became nauseous with that almost an hour after I took it each time and my sex drive became even worse. Doing that I thought my symptoms would go away. I still had nausea, still no sex drive, developed weird skin patch ( dermatologist said it was eczema, but very suspicious that it all happened around same time). Since my symptoms still existed I thought it was my birth control pill. That's why I switched to Loestrin....I'm still emotional, esp near my period, but I'm a girl, I expect that. What I am worried about, and from what I have read through these posts- is that the side effects you each describe are pretty much daily side effects for me and I might not catch it as something that I should be worried about. Is it also true also that this pill makes you gain more than others? On my previous pill, I didn't gain weight and I don't plan on exercising bc of this one. I know pills affect everyone differently, and I wonder if i go on another message board for another pill I will see the same responses.....I just want to hear from someone with a positive take on this pill. Telling me that you are fine, you just have to exercise and not drink, have no sex drive and deal with not getting your period sometimes, does not make me feel better.
Also, the past two times I have drank alcohol on this pill, I became extremely nauseous the next day. Normally this would be contributed to a hangover- but I didn't drink the amount that would cause one, compared to my past drinking experiences. The nausea sometimes results in vomit, otherwise it just lasts all day. I was wondering if anyone had this happen to them while they drank on the pill.

I am male 37 years old. In June 2007, my blood test shows 249 total cholesterol. After that, I was taking super B-complex, fish and flax seeds pills. It went down to 213 total cholesterol (40 HDL, 136 LDL and TRI 176). And I asked my family doctor to give prescription for Zocor(I asked particular drug because I will get good discount rate at my employer's place). he gave me Zocor 20 mg. After taking 1-month medication I felt some inconvenience during sex . You don’t feel it normal. I can’t do much exercise and some times feel depressed. I usually do 1-hour exercise or any form of exercise (Yoga). After Two months I tested my blood cholesterol level. It shows now total cholesterol 181(LDL 93, HDL 42 and TRI 223). And also showed ALT and urine protein little elevated. Now I stopped medication for past two days, feeling better at day time but night I am having weird dreams and indigestion problem. I guess these are withdrawal symptoms. I would go for natural medication like regular exercise, diet (oat meal, high fiber content, less sugar, less white rice). No more Statin drugs. Any one have same problem?

I believe Zyrtec to be the source of my leg problems. For the last few years I've had problems with my legs at night before bedtime. The doctors I've seen regarding this condition assumed it was restlesslegs syndrome, but I stopped taking the zyrtec and noticed an immediate relief with my leg pain at night. I'm in the process of switching to another allergy medicine to see if this will alliviate the problem. Never noticed any depression problems though.

I thought that I was going crazy, but after reading other people's side affects from inhaling Advair, I now know what my health problems can be attributed to. I have been on Advair for 3 months, and my health has deteriorated dramatically. I would get a burning sensation throughout my chest & stomach area, headaches, backaches, disoriented, mood swings, lack of concentration, loss of taste & smell and some depression problems. I would go to bed exhausted, and wake up exhausted. My whole day was a mass of confusion, and irritations. I quit taking Advair just a few days ago, and I feel great now. I no longer have any of the health problems that I listed above. I do fine on Flovent, Albuterol, & Singulair. Its shocking to find out how many people have actually suffered from a drug that was supposed to bring relief.

I started taking Singulair for a few days (4 or 5) and for the first few days reallly believed it was a miracle drug. However, after a while I started to suffer from incredible anxiety. I couldn't sit still, had a decreased appetite, and furthermore, was unable to sleep at night. I will not say 100% of the issue was due to Singulair because I was already in a bad condition before taking Singulair. However, I really believe Singulair adgitated my already nervous state. It's tough to determine whether or not Singulair has an effect on anxiety, but from what I experienced, and most of the other people who posted things above experienced, it's probably better to stay off this drug if you have any sort of anxiety or depression problems.

Have been on Lipitor for just 4 days. I've been taking just 5 mg per day (prescribed dose in 10 mg), and already I'm feeling very irritable and depressed (also insomnia and headache). I know this isn't considered to be a "common" side effect, but it looks like I'm not the only one out there who has experienced this. It was almost like a "switch" was thrown in my brain chemistry within the first couple of hours of the first dose. I don't think I'm going to be able to continue with this (I'm even afraid to go up to 10 mg). I'm thinking of asking my doctor about Zetia. Has anyone had depression problems with Zetia?

First of all, Yaz and yazmin are two diff pills, yaz was approved a few years after yazmin b/c it held a lower dose of estrogen.
I am a female who had a bad reaction to ortho and the depo shot. I was turned onto yazmin about 4 years ago because I had bad reactions to the other forms I'd tried. I suffer from depression problems as well, and my doctor said that it tested well among people with my background. I loved it.
Anyhoo, the whole reason I am writing, is because I've noticed a pattern in all of the statements on this website: the women who had bad experiences w/Yaz or Yazmin, had good experiences w/Ortho Tricyclen and vise versa. I just find that so amusing!!!
Thank you for your time,
Mel
