I have been on effexor XR 75mg. for 3 or 4 years and now I have decided to wean off. I never had any noticeable side effects on the drug. I decided to wean off not only because I felt I had been on it ample time but also because my liver enzyme count kept coming back high.My doctor put me on a dosage trail that will wean me off. I don't understand these posts about stopping cold turkey? Why? Why wouldn't you wean off? Anyway I have been taking a capsule every other day for 2 weeks (at bedtime). On my off day I do feel dizzy IE:vertigo, hot flashes, shallow breathing, extra tired. Before these symptoms would begin later in the day maybe around 5 PM and for some reason now 2 weeks in the symptoms seem to begin earlier. My doctor suggested after the 2 weeks that I take 1 capsule every 2 days instead of every other day. Because I have many pills left still I'm going to do 1 every other day for an extra week. To be honest I'm nervous about going every 2 days with out. So I may just end up reverting to 37.5 every other day then every 2 days and hopefully that will be easier. There are options here people. I wouldn't suggest effexor XR for any other depression than major depressive disorder. The healthiest alternative is to not be on anything and instead try less invasive methods such as therapy, consistent exercise etc. To each there own? Like I said the exception would be major disorder. Good luck.

Update: Our son has been off of singulair since the 28th of March.....he had experienced most of complaints and ailments that affect other children. Since then, he is still tough to get to sleep - probably a 3 year old thing - but is better that before. He is also sleeping much more soundly and waking on the right side of the bed. He is still complaining of the leg cramps and sometimes still limping around for a while, and also complaining of stomach aches... I suspect those too should disappear after some time, however, he is no longer complaining that the lights and sun hurt his eyes. It is as though a major fog has been lifted - he is listening to us more the first time we speak rather than having to fight over things such as cleaning, or behaving. He is not as physical with us or his brother as before. And, the most important thing....he seems truly HAPPY - he has been napping all week at day care, and is proud of his accomplishment! He is focused in Karate class - listens to his Sir - engages in the activity with the other children - is more vocal and energetic....and once again PROUD! His Karate teacher - Sir - noticed an immediate difference in our beloved son - he was so surprised that Singulair is to blame - he said that our son is a complete different child without a trace of the drugged, insecure, and quiet boy he knew a week ago.
This Saturday our little boy will be testing for his yellow belt and he is so excited that he can hardly contain his HAPPINESS!!!!!

One last thought though.....I am extremely worried of any lasting mental or physical implications this drug could have on him - what does the future hold for our son - could this drugs nasty side effects cause some crazy long term side effect we have yet to see???

My 9 year old son has been on Singulair for about four years for asthma and allergies. It did wonders for his asthma and allergies. However, since starting the medicine, has experienced rages, anger, impulse control problems, extreme mood swings, violent and destructive behavior, repetitive behaviors, bed wetting, weight gain, bad self thoughts, ADD, paranoia, peer social interaction problems...shall I go on? He sees a psychologist once a week for counseling and a psychiatrist periodically. He was diagnosed last year with major depressive disorder and mild ADD. He was placed on an antidepressant, an antipsychotic, and an ADD med. My big-hearted sweet boy gradually faded away. When I heard the news about the FDA investigation last week, I did some investigating myself. What I found was gut-wrenching! The Singulair went in the trash. This drug has stolen four precious years of my sons life and made the entire family suffer! We have been through hell. Only four days off the medication and he is already feeling better and looking like my happy boy again! We are slowly weaning him from his psych meds. I am full of hope now for him and his future and my family's weel-being but I am FURIOUS at Merke!!!

My GP put me on Regan for reflux, after 3 months with no relief he told me to up the dose to 4x a day. I suffered severe depression, chills, body aches, fatigue and panic attacks. Finally, after taking the 4x a day dose for 30 days, I suffered a severe reaction with stroke-like symptoms. My Doctor never mentioned these side-effects and I already suffered from manic-depressive disorder. I thought I was going to die from a stroke or heart attack the last day I took it. After getting my refill, I read the adverse side effects from the accompanying leaflet and planned on discussing it with the Doctor. Three days later I suffered the really bad reaction and It was only because I read the leaflet provided by the RX store a few days earlier that I was aware it was the Reglan. I flushed every bit of it and listed it as an allergic med on my med card. I should have never been a candidate for Reglan because of my manic-depressive disorder and heart disease. Be an advocate . . . research new meds yourself and don't rely on physicians or pharmacists to warn you of side-effects or reactions to other medications your taking.

Been on Wellbutrin for almost six weeks. Started off with XL150 for the first two weeks and the last 3.5 weeks on xl 300. Have had a few side effects such as minor weight loss, cigarettes are starting to taste really foul, and over all I have a much better mood and attitude towards life. My doctor also prescribed me Xanax 0.5 for anxiety. I'm really enjoying the combo of the two. The last two weeks I've been under the care of a psychiatrist for severe depressive disorder. I'm starting to feel hopeful that I can once again feel good. I've been in a deep depression for the past two years since the death of my mother.
