Except for having high cholesterol (310), I'm a 29 yr old healthy active female, very petite and weigh 98lbs. My mother has had a quadruple bypass and 4 stents at the age of 54, high cholesterol is just hereditary in my family. My doctor put me on 40 mg of zocor. The first week taking zocor I started feeling strange, a little soar here and there and very tired at times, also I have become very forgetful. It's been almost 2 months now and I have severe pain in my legs. First it was the right leg and now both legs, the pain starts at my lower back all the way down to my cav. I have a burning painful feeling sometimes numbing feeling, its driving me crazy!!!! I can't stand for too long cause I feel tons of pressure on my lower back pushing down my legs, It feels like my sciatic nerve. I went to my doctor and he said he is 95% sure that this is from the zocor medication, he told me to stop it right away. This is my first day without it, I know I need to do something to prevent what happen to my mother, I'm on a strict healthy diet, staying away from all fatty cholesterol filled foods, but there has to be a better way then taking statin drugs! If anyone has some ideas of what kind of alternative meds I can take, please help.

I am 20 years old and my sister is 17 years old. My sister received her first shot about a month and a half before I received mine. Her arm was sore for a few weeks. After a few weeks have passed she began to itch all over her body, and began to have blotches all over (the worst spot was her ankles and feet-they looked swollen). She went to the doctor and he said that he did not think it was from the gardasil shot, but could be irritated and dry skin. So, not thinking it would happen to me as well, I received my shot. Everything seemed fine, no pain at all. But then About a month later ( a week ago ) I woke up to itching ALL over(extremely bad on my stomach & arms). I tried using an anti-itch lotion and took medicine to attempt the itching and redness to go away and keep washing myself , but it did not really do anything. When I woke up the next day, it was mostly gone and the doctor said he did not think it was from the shot either. I just found it to be quite a coincidence that my sister AND i both received itchy-blotchiness around the same time period after the shot. But, after my sister received her second shot she was perfectly fine, with the exception of a soar arm where the shot was taken place. I did not go for my second one yet, but I hope everything turns out okay! If anyone else received any type of blotches or itchiness please let me know, we are very curious to see if its happened to anyone else too.

I have been on Yaz for almost two years. The first year was convinced it was a miracle pill because all my PMDD symptoms disappeared. Since April of this year I have been walking up around 5 am and throwing up. I am on day six of my January pack and have had diarrhea or vomited in the morning. I know 100% I am not pregnant because I use the Yaz as directed and condoms. However I since bc convinces your body your pregnant I think I am experiencing morning sickness. I have talked to several doctors, a nurse, and a pharmacist about this issue and they all think it is highly unlikely I could be experiencing a side affect after having none for so long but I think they are wrong. I have a big training event a t work coming up in February and don't want to go off bc or start another because I'm scared of the PMDD getting bad. HELP!

Was diagnosed with a bacterial stomach infection Dec 17 and given a prescription for 5 days of Levaquin 750. It immediately cleared up my fever and diarrhea within 24 hours. My appetite started to come back, but after the 3rd dose, i started to feel worse. No fever or diarrhea, but instead I was very weak and constantly hungry. At first I thought this was just from not having eaten for 4+ days due to the infection, but no matter what i tried to eat (i had no appetite) I felt very weak, and would sweat a lot. Finally on Dec 24 went back to the doctor, and found out I had very low blood sugar from the Levaquin. It registered a 46 (below 70 is a problem). Doctor told me to just force myself to eat. Christmas morning, woke up with severe shakes, and thought I was going into shock. I ate a bunch of sugar and we went off to the ER. Luckily bloodwork was all normal, but the ER Doc basically said I hadn't eaten enough and was starving myself. He admitted the Levaquin can cause the loss of appetite (along with many other bad things) so he gave me medicine for the nausea so I could eat. Its now the 27th and I'm starting to eat more and feel back to normal. I'll NEVER take Levaquin again.

My 7 year old female Siberian Husky, Niceah is suffering with her second serious flare-up of IBD. She was taking 20 mgs. of prednisone every 12 hours for several days. We are now down to 12 mgs. daily and working towards 12mgs. every other day. She is lethargic and her body and belly have swollen frightfully to the point where it is difficult for her to lie down without grunting and sighing. She pants heavily. She drinks and eats constantly. Her nose is dry. Her tummy grumbles all day and night. I have been boiling chicken breast and mixing it with sweet potato and Enzymes & Probiotics. I am currently working with a holistic advisor concerning Niceah's diet once she has weened off the prednisone. The side effects of this drug are frightening and I am so worried that something more permanent and damaging will occur. Has anybody experienced this?? If so, I would appreciate any advise. I am 35 years old and I live in Jacksonville, NC. Five days ago I was prescribed Levaquin for a serious sinus infection. After taking the first pill, I kept telling my husband I felt weird. Like I was numb. This was Saturday. By Monday I had no feeling in my face, no sense of smell or taste. It was horrible. By Monday eve my heart was pounding. I felt like it was coming out of my chest. I was so dizzy and I found it hard to concentrate. I woke up Wed. morning telling my husband I felt weird. I felt like I couldn't move my eyes and I couldn't feel the left side of my body. My lip on the upper right was swollen with blisters. Not to mention they were so dry because it seemed like no matter how much I was drinking I could never stay hydrated. By lunchtime Wed my left side of my body became very hot to where I was actually sweating under my armpit on the left side and my right side was cold. My heart began to race very badly, I became very dizzy, I felt like I couldn't breathe, my throat felt like it was swelling up and I couldn't swallow, then I started to shake uncontrollably, my body broke out in the horrible hives/rash. My blood pressure soared to 198/109 my pulse was 148. Then everything went black and I lost conscious. When I woke I was told I was unconscious for nearly three hours and that they injected me straight in the neck with epinephrine and injected me in my arm with 50 cc of Benadryl. They told me that they believe I suffered a serious reaction from Levaquin. It is the day after, cant even go to work, so weak and have the worst case of diarrhea you could possibly imagine. I was not even aware that the FDA put a black box warning on this drug. Meaning it is the worst warning you can have without removing it off the market. What the hell is wrong with these doctors? Why the hell would you keep giving that poison to us if you know it has such severe reactions. I am a mother of five and yesterday I thought my kids were going to be without a mother, that is how bad it was. I still have the bouts of paranoia and swear I am seeing things. My mind is a blur to most of yesterday. I still have no feeling on the left side of my body, or my face. I still cant taste or smell anything either. I am having bouts of dizziness and anxiety. I only consumed four of the 750 mg tablets, they gave me seven. They have prescribed me a different antibiotic, however because of yesterday, I am petrified of taking any medications, even Tylenol.

I went through a horrible withdrawal from ativan two and half years ago. It sent my CNS into overdrive. But I eventually got better. I have been extremely well and able to teach full time this past year. Then I got a very bad case of poison oak and was put on prednisone for 9 days, starting at 40mg. and then coming off at 10mg. I am so very sick again. It took me a year and half to recover from the benzos. How long does this horrible diarrhea, nauseousness, inner vibrating last???

I was given omnicef for a sinus infection, though I was told to take it twice a day , ive only been taking it once a day , due to an unnormal schedule... It has caused me to be so uncomfortable..I cant stand it. I have unbelievable abdominal pain, cramps ... but no diarrhea... Im constipated , one bowel movement a day ... and I also have the rust/ red stools. which is a listed side effect . Ironically, Before being diagnosed with all of this, I was in the doctors office a few weeks earlier complaining of stomach problems. . thinking I may have an ulcer, and my doctor told me It was only stress... yet he never tested me for an ulcer, no x-ray , nor an endoscopy. Now Im on some medicine that apparently may mess me up even more. WOW.

This is the second time my 9 month old has been prescribed this antibiotic. The fist time, she was 5 months old and after 3 days had a 'rectal fissure' (supposedly since she had a positive test for bloody stool) and the medication was discontinued. Just about two weeks ago, she was prescribed it again. She had the red/rusty stools and I took her in and it was negative for blood. She has been refusing to eat and extremely irritable. After 7 days of this antibiotic, I took her back in for a recheck. Her ears were clear and the antibiotic was discontinued. She has been off of the antibiotic for 5 days now and is still irritable, having explosive diahrea diapers 4 to 5 times a day and refusing to eat. Currently we are monitoring her for dehydration and giving only pedialyte for feeds. She has had a total of 16 ounces yesterday and had 13 ounces today. She has had continued diahrea and has had 2 very barely wet diapers now.
My four year old was on this medication a couple of times and never had any trouble. I am concerned however about the reactions that have been experienced this time around. I hope that no other parent has to endure this with their child. Personally, I will request something other than Omnicef in the future.

I tried the NR for 3 months like my doctor told me to. She painted this pretty picture of how it was so easy, and that's the birth control she takes, blah, blah. After reading the other comments I see some of the same things I experienced. Like sleeplessness. I have not really seen any other comments of digestive problems, but I'm sure it's because of the ring. It seems like the week before I'm supposed to take the ring out
I begin having digestive issues, throwing up, diahrea, nausea, dizziness. Pregnant symptoms. I got off the ring and got on a low dose pill. I can't have digestive issues every month for a whole week. I would rather set my alarm and remember to take the pill everyday. Also, the ring cost $50 and the pill $15.

I have just come across this site, while looking to find out why I have been experiencing heart palpitations for the past two months - out of the blue!!! and usually "exercise" induced. I had some tests and have been told they are Premature Atrial Contractions "PACs". I started taking Yasmin in April, after having tried others over the past year (tri-cyclen lo and alesse) which did not work for me as the progestin was not strong enough. I am in my 40s and never took the pill before. Yasmin was great, it significantly reduced my "physical" pms (severe inflamation, severe bloating, severe sore breasts) which I experience for 2-3 weeks a month. However, sometime in mid to late June, I started getting palpitations/tremors out of the blue. The first episode freaked me out and lasted for about two weeks. At first I thought it was allergy medication mixed with my thyroid med, which can happen - but I cut out the allergy meds and still got them. They seem to come about 6hrs to a day after I fexercise/figure skate and they last from 2 to 5 five days. It's very irritating and nerve wracking, and I feel very agitated. I am also out of breath more than usual when walking up stairs, a little light headed and have some tightness in the chest. My legs also are weak, which makes no sense given my exercise regimen. I then lowered my thyroid replacement from .125 synthroid to .100 - too much thyroid med can cause some palpitations. Anyone who has mistakenly taken a second thyroid pill having forgotten that they already took one will understand. Even with the lower dose I am still getting the palpilations. I am totally at a loss as to why all of a sudden this is happening to me (perhaps perimenopause??). I have had the odd flutter here and there in my live, but nothing like this. It just doesn't make any sense ag ll. Can one's health just change like this overnight?. I am otherwise healthy, slim, have "lower" blood pressure (apprx 100-90/70-60)I skate 3 to 5 times a week, I have a full time job and yes I do push myself, but this is getting ridiculous. The only thing I can attribute it to is the Yasmin, ... but my symptoms only started after a few months not instantly, whereas it would seem that most of the the women here noticed the side effects faster. I hate to stop the Yasmin because I will have to return to pms "hell", but I suppose I will give it a try to see if the palpitations subside. At this point, I have been offered a low dose "beta blocker" and have refused. I am stunned to think that all of a sudden I have heart issues, especially since my Dr has always kidded me my that I will never have heart problems with my blood pressure. I will stop the Yasmin tonight and post another message in a few weeks one it is out my system. Here's hoping it is the Yasmin.

Doctor finally is getting something done. she checked my heart becasue I have MVP... and I am shedualed to get a mri of brain... I have a herniated disk in lower back, scoliosis, degenerative disk disease.... nuerologist checked for nerve damage due to herniation. won't hear back anything on that till after mri of brain. won't hear back about the heart till april.... Just found out that I am borderline hyperthyroidism... and the doc is sending me to a specialist. thyroid is inflammed and big.... My bones are crackly and pop alot and sore.... Thank you,,,, love and light to all, jess

well my hubby started taking this a week in half before christmas 06 for MRSA (STAPH). the week before christmas he had a high fever, shaking so hard it would make him crazy, diahrea, out of it , could not stay awake, he said he felt as if he was in a fog. i took him to the doc 4 days later they said they dont know what is wrong with him after some test and put him on ZPAC and told him to lay off the sulfameth till the ZPAC was done. so he was better after 3 days on the ZPAC and he did not start the sulfameth back up for 9 days and the first day he took it he could not walk his knees hurt so bad and fever, stiff neck, diahrea again i called the doc they said it might be the flu , called walgreens they said no way it could be the sulfameth. so we are going to the ER if not any better and he will not be taking this drug again. i do beleave that doc dont know every thing and some time you must trust your instints.

I started taking Sulfameth for a urinary tract infection the last week in Sept. '06 and at about 10 days my health just crashed in and out of various symptoms. I started feeling like I was near a "blackout" a lot of the time, brain pains around my head, my head and face feel hot internally but not to the touch, my ears got plugged up sensation, my muscles would quiver, teeth chatter like I was really cold, I had some heart burn, nausea, diahrea, and loss of appetite, sleeplessness, I suffered from thoughts of suicide and paranoia during these episodes which seem to last 8 hours. My team of Dr.s have found nothing so far.

My significant other took Doxycylene, 100 mg, twice a day for two weeks to treat a swollen lymph node under his arm. During the treatment he experienced nausea, stomach pain, rash and cold sweats, nothing too bad. 3 days after the last dose everything got significantly worse. It started with sever chest pain, so bad we went to the emergency room thinking it was a heart attack or blood clot. They found nothing and discharged him. Over the next 3 weeks he started vomitting, diahrea and developed jaundice. Constant queeziness and chest pain. After numerous tests, ultra sounds, MRCP, the doctor has ruled out various hepatitas's and every other disease he could think of. He's also rulled out any kind of bile duct blockage after the MRCP. Its now been 7 weeks since all this started, my friend has dropped 40 lb's (190 down to 152) and still dropping. Our doctor (gastro interologist) has admitted he's stumped and is currently contacting a professor in Miami as a last hope. The only thing our doctor keeps comming back to is the Doxycyclene and that my friend may have had that one rare acute reaction. We're frazzled and don't know what to do next.

I think this is due to Topamax....I have been taking it for four months and my stomach has not been the same since. I have lost 13 lbs. due to diahrea. I thought I had Giardia a parasite but the doctor thinks it may be the meds. So I am being weaned off the Topamax. For me I have cut out refined sugar and coffee all together and my migranes have been almost nil. I hope they stay that way once I am off the meds. I have had migraines since childhood and sugar has been a huge part of my diet. So cutting it out has been hard but I have done it. GOOD LUCK.

Hi,
I've never felt compelled to post anything on a blog site before, but in this case, I felt that it was important to share my experience on Yasmin. I've was on Yasmin for 3 years, but last month, I switched to Avianne.
At first, I didn't notice any terrible side effects on Yasmin. However, slowly over the years, I noticed or experienced the following: a) marked decrease in sex drive; b) vaginal dryness; c) melasma (darkening of skin on the face); d) depression (especially in the first week of the cycle); e) muscle spasms; and f) dehydration even while drinking 10 glasses of water a day; g) weight gain; and h) fatigue.
Most desturbing of all, were symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. In my opinion, the diuretic component of Yasmin is dangerous. It was rare for me to pass a bowel movement every day and when I would, it was difficult b/c of constipation. Usually, I would pass a bowel movement every 3-5 days . I switched my diet to high fiber and eating mostly fruits/vegetables, and cutting out dairy, but that didn't help. Sometimes the pain from feeling bloated and "so backed up," that it was imbearable. Also, I would alternate from symptoms of constipation and diahrea.
I never had any of these problems before I started taking Yasmin.
It took me a while to put two and two together when I noticed that the ONLY time that I didn't have difficulty passing a bowel movement was the week of taking the placebo pills, and I was on my period.
On Avianne, I have 1-2 bowel movements a day. All symptoms of IBS have disappeared. The other symptoms of Yasmin are starting to abate, too.
Finally, if you don't notice any decrease in your sex drive at first while on Yasmin, you will down the road. It's rather insidious and it's no surprise-- if you do the research, you'll discover that the unique progestin component of Yasmin (what's usually associated with decreased sex drive) is 6 times greater than other BC pills.
Hope this helps.

I was on yaz for close to 4-5 years. I started taking antibiotics and my husband and I became pregnant while on the pill. We were well aware of chances of becoming pregnant. From the day I found out i was pregnant I started throwing up. I LOST 15 pounds during my pregnancy due to being sick all of the time. I had constant heartburn and choked all of this up to being pregnant with a little girl with a head full of black hair! The day my husband was suppose to go back to work from his leave (exactly 2 weeks after having my baby) i started throwing up at about 3am due to intense stomach pain that radiated into my chest and back and couldn't stop. He stayed home. The next day it happened again, my husband assumed i had postpartum depression and told me i would be fine and left for work. I tried to go back to bed but couldn't stop throwing up long enough to go into the next room and check on my crying newborn. I had to beg him to come home from work, we got a babysitter, went to the hospital, they did an ultrasound and admitted me. 12 hrs later I was on the operating table having my gallbladder removed. I now suffer with DAILY diarrhea immediately after I eat ANYTHING and stomach pain. I try to stick to a low fat diet but it doesn't help!!!! i have constant stomach pain, headaches, nausea and heartburn. Not to mention the FOUR scars that i have from the surgery. When i started taking Yasmin and eventually yaz NOWHERE did it say that it could cause gallbladder disease!
