In 2003 I received a single injection of Kenalog in my left elbow for treatment of tennis elbow. Following the injection, the area became red and itched. I called the doctor who told me I was having an allergic reaction and told me to take a Benadryl. For weeks I continued to react with redness and itching. Within months I noticed changes in the areas that were itching. A dent was forming and spreading. My GP was concerned about possible nerve damage so I had several tests to established there was no permanent nerve damage. The dent continued to spread for about 2 years after my single injection. It's about 4 inches long with a diameter of 3 inches. My elbow is severely deformed as a result; it's basically nothing but skin and bone which I have to keep covered for protection. The skin is thin and tends to break open if bumped or turns black from blood vessels breaking if any pressure is applied to the area. Occasionally, the itching will return like it still spreading down my arm. Hard to believe that is the case after five years but who knows with this drug.
Since my experience with this injection, I have refused any treatment involving the use of any steroid. One look at my elbow is all it takes. Kenalog has changed my life and it certainly has not been for the better.

I was using the NuvaRing for two months before quitting it yesterday. It caused me to have alopecia and now I have a bald spot three inches in diameter. I'm super sensitive to all hormones. I have tried 10 different bc pills in the past 7 years - all with bad results, but never this bad. Not worth losing hair for.

Ladies, thank you for all of your posts. I now know that I am not crazy! I am 32 and was on the pill for the past 3 years since my last child was born. I went off the pill and had the mirena inserted in February 2008. I had a few friends that had it who raved about how much they loved it. I talked with my gyn and it sounded like a good fit for me. In the first month that it was inserted I had to call the on call gynecologist at night or on weekends because I was having such sharp pains in my pelvic area. It would stop me in my tracks, I would lose my breath, and couldn't move. I went in to the office twice in the first month because I was just not feeling right about the way things were going. My doc assured me it was all normal and that I had to give it a few more months. I did have random spotting/periods for the first 3 months, which was annoying, but bearable. In June I had an ovarian cyst rupture and the pain was so bad I could have sworn I was in labor. I went to the ER and they found that one had ruptured but there was another one that was almost 5 cm in diameter. Subsequent ultrasounds showed that I did have a steady cycle of ovarian cysts, but they were small. In the meantime I had trouble sleeping, was flying off the handle for silly things, and just felt completely out of control. I talked to my new family medicine doctor (a woman) and she told me that she felt that my body was going into a semi-menopausal state because of the lack of estrogen in my body. The solution was to put me on an estrogen patch for 3-6 months to see if it helped. I was on the fence about the patch, but knew I had to do something to help me get some sleep again and to calm down. The patch worked quickly and within a week I was feeling calmer, sleeping through the night again. In the meantime I have crazy acne that just seemed to appear from no where. I'm not sure if it's the estrogen patch, the iud, or a combination of them both. My face is broken out everywhere, all the time. My hair has also changed. It's been straight my whole life. Super straight, now waves or curls. Now all of the sudden I have frizzy, wavy hair that is thinning and just looks so damaged. By the summer, about 3 months after the IUD was inserted my periods were normal, short, but normal, every 4 weeks. Now I have not had a period in 5 weeks (pregnancy test negative) and my cycle before that was only 3 weeks. I have finally decided that I'm done with mirena!! I am going for an appointment on the 17th to have it taken out. I have also just stopped the estrogen patch this week, so I'm hoping to have my body "de-toxed" of all of these hormones soon!

I was injected with Kenalog in Mid July 2008 to reduce the swelling in my tonsils (I had a bad case of tonsillitis). I was asked if I have allergic reactions to steroid injections, and to my knowledge, I don't. So I was given a shot in my upper right buttock on Thursday (mid July). On the following Friday I was no better (still mid July). I was still not able to swallow my own spit, let alone eat or drink, so I went back Friday morning. I got another shot in the same location of Kelanog. I was not told of side effects; I was told the swelling would go down in my tonsils/throat. Again, no results.
That Friday afternoon I was admitted into the hospital for care. A weekend of fluids and other drugs got the infection out. I stayed infection free for two weeks. It hurt for a week afterwards on my right buttock, but no bruising. I healed up, had my tonsillectomy (sp), and healed fine after that.
I noticed nothing wrong with my upper right buttock until about two weeks ago. I am in the process of getting a large rib/hip tattoo piece finished, and about two weeks ago I noticed a spot that looked like a small bruise a few inches from my tattoo in the spot where I was administered the Kenalog shots. I didn't put it together then. Two weeks later (This past Thursday, September 25, 2008), my tattoo artist was about to work on me and said, "You have a dent in your butt, what happened?" I had no idea it was even a dent. The "bruise" like mark now looked like a burn scar, red, and smooth and deep--dented.
The red mark is still dented and the same color. It's about the size of an inch from one side to the other. However, each day since it has been dented, the dented area has expanded fairly rapidly. The dent is now not only in that red area (the injection site), but also along my hip/upper thigh. It's getting deeper and traveling outside the red area, and the red area is the same color. This discoloration just started. I heard this is called Tissue Atrophy due to a misadministered Kenalog injection.
Does this dent go away or stop "spreading" by itself? How will I know if it will stop spreading; is it different for everyone? How can it be properly diagnosed as well? Can a biopsy be done to prove that this it what it is? Does anyone have any insight?
Also, it's been 2 1/2 months before I saw any of these effects...why does it seem like my effects came later than others? Is that possible?
Thanks.

I am 24 with 2 children and had mirena inserted in February after going crazy with implanon. I have never really tolerated the pill either and this was the last option. 2 weeks later I was in excruciating pain in my stomach that i could barely look after my kids. My stomach was so distended i looked about 8 months pregnant. After tolerating the pain for a few days i went to my doctor and she sent me for a pelvic ultrasound. they found cysts on each ovary. 1 measured 3 inches in diameter and the other 1 was slightly smaller. Even after they dissolved i was in pain for at least a month afterwards due to my bowels and bladder being pushed around. Since then I have had no problems (touch wood) I have had minor cysts in the past but not to this extent and after doing some research found that mirena caused it. I have opted to leave it in for the time being as i am not having any other side effects that i know of from it. But if I end up getting cysts again I will definitely be getting it taken out.

I suffered with gastric reflux for a number of years not paying the attention i perhaps should have done. My reason for seeking medical advice that i found it increasingly difficult to swallow food. I had put it down to a psychological reaction. I reasoned that an episode some years ago caused a fear of food getting stuck in my thought, the thought sometimes seemed to trigger the response - ie the throat closing and quite literally stopping the food halfway down. The phenomenon became more and more frequent occurring almost every mealtime and making social eating a nightmare. Visited a specialist, had an endoscopy and found that the reflux had over a period of time caused a build of scar tissue in the throat, creating a ring of tissue which dramatically reduced the diameter of the throat. Specialist mad incisions into the tissue so it was flaps rather than a solid ring. sounds a bit grim but didn't feel a thing and a lunchtime sandwich a few hours later slipped down a treat.
it has been liberating being able to eat normally again. I am on these tablets or at least similar for the rest of my life so that the reflux does not burn my throat and build up scar tissue again. I do suffer from some of the side effects mentioned, - gas, blurred vision - which i hadn't realized was fairly common and put down to overuse of computer, tiredness. I guess there's no perfect remedy but I'd have to give it my vote. Strangely, before taking the drug i also suffered fairly regularly with dizziness and nausea - put down to labyrinthitis. It would seem the reflux and the connection between the throat and ear was the cause as the condition has disappeared. Sorry a bit long winded but a good site and good to know one isn't quite unique and suffering alone

I am 19 year old male and was diagnosed with Epididymitis a couple of weeks ago. Prescribed 100mg Doxycycline HYC TB--taken twice daily for 10 days. Aside from the nausea and headaches, I have recently realized a tingling in my right calf. It has probably been feeling this way for about a week now. It feels numb and while there is no actual pain, it is quite uncomfortable
In addition, I recently developed a lump right under my right nipple. It's probably about an inch in diameter and feels as if it's a cyst.
Plus, Im not convinced my Epididymitis has totally gone away. There is still some very minor discomfort in that area.
Any similar side effects?

I got a voltaren shot on my hip for an injury to my toe (it became really swollen). Hours later the area became discolored, from blueish to reddish to purple, and now it is purplish black. The area is sore, and dis discoloration is approximately 4 inches in diameter. This is so scary. I have has shots with other drugs before, but never with this discoloration. It's been 4 days since i got the shot, and it shows no indication of going away. It keeps getting worse daily. Has anyone else experienced this? Please help.

I was prescribed LEVAQUIN for a sinus infection. This was my first time to hear about or take this. I have had reactions to Keflex in the past. So, within about three hours of taking Levaquin, I had red spots and was manic mad. I felt like some maniac. A few hours later, I had two deep and bright red circles on my stomach. The burning was like a fire and it was actually hot to the touch. My roommate touched it and it felt like fire to them. I stopped the medication and went to see my doctor that Monday. The pain was continuing. The Levaquin Rep just happened to be in the office when I was there. He said, "Yep, happens to about 1 in 10 people" The burning later turned into a black spot, about three inches in diameter. I felt and WAS burned. Also, my bicep muscle hurt and the pain in my shoulder was unbelievable. I've read about all of the other posts about muscle pains. My ortho doctor said I have a torn bicep muscle. Now, I work out but am not a muscle guy by any means. I have two female friend and one went numb from head to toe on exactly one side. The other friend had SEVERE burns all over her body, her skin fell off and hair fell out. She has been fighting side effects inside and out from Levaquin. We both feel that we were burned from the drug. Her case was MUCH more serious than mine. My heart goes out to all of you for your pain and loss. This drug needs exposure.

I had a Kenalog shot about 6 weeks ago in my face for what my doctor thought was swollen tissue after a surgery, however the Kenalog has eaten away at my tissue creating a "dent" in the side of my face. This has been a really terrible and frightening experience, and I am very concerned that the tissues will not regenerate themselves over time. He has told me that it could take a year for the tissues to regenerate themselves. Please, anyone out there who has had a similar experience with tissue atrophy after a Kenalog shot, please would you let me know if this tissues really ever came back gradually? Thanks so much.

I am having horrible hair loss too. I always had thick, helthy hair. Now my pony tail is about half the diameter...I have to twist the hair band 3 times instead of 2 and it still slides off. And I barely have any bangs left at all.
My doctor said it doesn't matter, (in fact, he wouldn't even acknowledge it as a side effect) since my levels are now fine. Easy for HIM to say!!
I'm considering getting the thyroid surgery now, so I can get off methimozole, but I'm afraid what the side effects for the OTHER medicine will be. Since that's permenant, I don't want to take that step too soon...but I also don't want to go bald!

Girls Girls Girls! My experience with yaz was a near fatal one. I took yaz for 21/2 months and ended up in the hosp with a massive blod clot to my left leg and a small one in each lung. I'm 42, and basically healthy except for the killer periods. I also felt nauseaous the first month then things got better, lighter flow, less cramping and back pain. halfway into my third pack is when things got ugly. Sudden onset of shortness of breath with normal activity and a leg that was 2inches bigger in diameter. For you older girls I think the ob/gyn should take labs prior to starting yaz. check cholesterol, clotting time, and potassium and hormone levels then monthly for the first 3-6 months to see how your body is responding. Dont let moderate side effects go on >1month before calling Dr.

Weight Gain, the "hollow" cought, and a fixed drug reaction with areas of 2-3 inch in diameter sores. Went off and in a couple of days the sores were starting to go away and I felt the fog lift from my brain. My physician prescribed another blood pressure lowering drug. I think I will not fill it and try Reliv instead.

Unfortunately I experienced extravasation of my Ultravist dose, causing extreme pain in my forearm, spasm of my fingers on the arm that it was injected into, followed over the next two hours by increasing swelling of the whole arm and patchy red discolouration of the skin.
My normal diameter of my arm is 18cm below the elbow, and it swelled to 24cm, to the point that I was unable to bend my elbow, and the swelling in my wrist began to act like a torniquet around my wrist, causing my hand go blue from restricted blood flow.
I spent hours massaging my arm towards my armpit, and applying heat, I took an antihistamine, and a diuretic, in a somewhat panic state of what could happen long term to my arm, as none of the medical staff had any idea.
The swelling slowly subsided over the following 5 days, and I appear to have no long term complications.

my 9yr old daughter received a shot of kenalog in sept. of 05 after a sever case of posion sumac. on night she showed me a dent in her butt about a 1 cm in diameter. i thought nothing of it as she said it did not hurt.. she is very active in gymnasitcs 4-5 days a week -- so i assumed it was a demple. last week she was getting in the tub and i noticed the dent it was now about 4 cm. my husband and i were so upset wondering what could this be (not thinking anything about the shot she received a couple of months ago) and trying not to upset her. as soon as the dr saw it he knew what it was. we should have been told of the side effect! it is now peace of mind knowing she's is not alone and will be ok. but, now wondering how scared will she be.

Hi Ladies,
I'm on day 17 of my first pack of Yasmin. Thank God my doc gave me 3 months worth of samples because I don't think I want to buy this pill. Anyways, I've been having symptoms similar to most everyone else on here. I get a lot of cramping, back pain, feels like my hips are going out on me, not able to eat, constantly thirsty, extremely dry skin, etc, etc. I started taking my pills before bed. After spending a week and a half with these symptoms, I changed the time of day that I took the pills to the morning. Made me feel worse taking the pills in the morning rather than before bed. Went back to taking them before bed and I'm back to "normal". By "normal" I mean taking Yasmin. I called my OB's office and was advised that they do not want to take me off this pill until I've been on it for 3 months to see if it will help my condition. I have not had a normal cycle ever in my life, and I got pregnant while on the pill all 3 times. I had an ultrasound done last month, and was told that when I have my period, the lining of my uterus is not leaving. I was told that my lining is 17-18 cm in diameter when it should only be 4-15 cm in diameter. My doctor wants to see if this will help me shed the lining of my uterus and have a normal cycle. Needless to say, I have noticed a few "good" benefits from Yamsin, I can't eat as much, therefore I'm losing weight and the hair that I've lost from my last 2 pregnancies is starting to grow back. Ladies, if any of you are Yasmin for the same reasons as I am, let me know if this has helped or worsened your condition. I would be grateful for any advise you may have.
Thanks,
Georgette

Been taking minocycline (generic for Dynacin) for about 6 mos. Several months ago I noticed a purple-ish rash about 2 inches in diameter on my back. I had a biopsy and it was determined to be an allergic reaction to something. I believe it was from the minocyline. Also, it makes me dizzy & numbs my tongue. Besides these, it cleared my adult acne.

In 2000 I had a cyst injected with Kenalog-10 in my right cheek (face) by Dr. Boyd at University of Michigan Cosmetic Dermatology in Livonia, MI. The cyst shrunk a little bit but a week later I still had the cyst and the Kenalog had created a red circle around it about .5" in diameter. 3 weeks later it looked like the cyst was ready to be drained (redness was still apparent) so I tried to squeeze it out. What a dumb idea. Now I'm left with 2 line scars, one above the cyst and one below it. To this day I still have the line scars and the bump from the cyst is still there, but I can't feel it anymore. I've tried glycolic peels, Retin-A, pulse dye-laser since the injection. I'm convinced now that I'll have these scars the rest of my life. I wish Dr. Boyd would've warned me ahead of time. I've squeezed pimples before in that area and have never gotten a scar. I believe the Kenalog thinned the skin, weakening it. It still looks somewhat depressed compared to the surrounding skin, and it turns pink if I don't cover it with moisterizer. If I just would've waited for the cyst to go away by itself I could've avoided a lifetime of suffering.

I received a shot of kenalog at the top of my left buttox after going to the emergency room because my throat was nearly swollen shut when I had mono. It was about 2 months after I had the shot that I noticed a weird dent where the shot had been given, the dent continued to grow in diameter and get deeper over the next couple of weeks. I went to the medical facility my college had on campus and after 2 NP's and 2 doctors came to look at it, 1 person asked if I'd had a kenalog shot at any time. He explained it to be a tissue atrophy caused by the shot and then told me that before a doctor administers that shot, they are suppose to explain the possible side effect to the patient and have a waiver signed. I went back to the hospital that I'd had the shot at and explained the situation to them and asked why I wasn't instructed about side effects and why I did not have any type of waiver presented either. They took a few days to get back to me, but the facility had aggreed to do reconstructive surgery on it at no charge. The only problem was that between my school/work schedule and the time it would take to have the surgeries/recovery time I was not able to have it done. However I would strongly suggest anybody else who's had this problem make this point to the facility they received their shot at. I was 19 at the time of the shot, and am 24 now. A minimal amount of tissue has regenerated on its own, however there is a scar-like marking about 2 inches long and about 3/4 of an inch high in that spot along with a small dent that still remains. The spot is very tender still and by this point, I'm assuming it will always be with me. Hopefully this helps anybody that's had a similar problem. Laws on the shot/procedures could vary by state so I would check with someone who is 100% familiar with medical laws in your state/area.

My daughter had an injection of Kenelog for a rash that covered most of the right side of her body. At the time she was only 19 months old. A few weeks after the injection, I noticed a bluish color spot near her right hip area whe the injection was given. I first thought it was a bruise. It has been 7 months since the injection and the area has an indention, and has grown in size. It is now about 2" in diameter and continues to grow and is bluish in color. Like most, I was not told of any possible side effects. I am left to only imagine what her long term side effects will be. Will it continue to grow? Will it cause her pain? How can this medicine still be in use if these are the known side effects? How many others will have this injection without knowing the side effect? I guess I am angry because as a mother, it is my responsibility to take care of my daughter and now she has this area that I don't know if it will get better all because I was not told the possible side effects. If I had known, she would not have had the injection.

I experienced a high fever (up to 103.8F) approximately 36 hours after my first dose of Repronex. The fever resolved approximately 36 hours after my last dose. My physician initially thought I had the flu, so did not stop my therapy. The fever persisted for 8 days, accompanied by sweats and chills. I also experienced large, painful welts and bruising at the injection sites.

I had a Kenalog injection in my arm in late February for seasonal allergies and it has caused a slight indentation as well as discloration (darkening). Its about 1cm in diameter and the area around it is still tender to the touch. My period was longer than usual (11 days) right after the shot, two weeks later got period again for 7 days, a week later I spotted and now I am waiting to see if I'll menstruate this month. Does anyone know if it deteriorates muscle or fat?

I am 21 and am in the second week of the second pack of pills. I have to attend a low-income based women care and either these docs don't really care or are out of their minds. i have been having problems with cysts on ONE ovary (left) about a year and a half ago the cyst got 2 inches in diameter. It supposedly went away on its own. I ended up in the ER again a few months ago and found out there is another cyst on my left ovary (which i have reason to believe its the same damn cyst, just flaring up and down)
-- By dasharp | Reply | Private Message meAnyway I have had horrible side effects on just about EVERY BC i've been on. depo and numerous diff pills. I even had a 2 month period while on the depo. but with Loestrin I have had countless side effects that incl:
hot flashes, anxiety, depression and mood swings, cold sweats, restlessness, sore and swollen breasts, constipation, heart burn, almost constant back pain and ovarian pain and worst pain when on my period. I had 2 periods my first month, missed ONE pill in the beginning of my second month and had a second period within 2 weeks with the most horrible pain. The only good side effects are an increased sex drive and a change in appetite.
I really don't know what to do. try a different bc pill or just stop altogether considering all the problems i've had.
i've thought about ortho-novum, girls my age seem to have less complaints about it....
this is so frustrating!!!
