I just started taking Toprol XL 50 mg about a week ago. I feel a little confused though on the doctor's judgment. I have a slow pulse (tends to run in the forties) from running a few miles a day and have mild hypotension. I was dizzy, lightheaded, fainted a few times, blurred vision, shortness of breath, chest palpitations and chest pain. My pulse would go from 35 to 170 just by standing and walking ten feet. The doctors determined I have what is known as POTS Disease, even though i suffered some of these symptoms lying down. Although the Toprol is helping with my palpitations and chest pain, it makes my resting heart rate and blood pressure even slower. Doesn't that seem dangerous, seeing as it's already low for even an athlete? My symptoms seem to be remaining the same besides that (which I guess is good seeing as Toprol can cause my symptoms, therefore I thought my dizziness, etc. may get worse). It's causing trouble sleeping, vomiting, cold feet and fingers.

Started using Vivelle-Dot 0.05 in March 2008 and in June of 2008 started getting an allergic reaction which was skin redness and irritation which turn into an open wound on my stomach with pus oozing out.

I had mirena put in 6 weeks postpartum and shortly after my breast-fed baby developed skin rashes. Now she is five months and has full blown eczema. I was just wondering if other moms have had similar experience? And could this be related? I have some of the similar side effects myself ( night sweats, insomnia, bloating and dizziness and also eczema) Please help. Should I have it removed?

I've been on Aviane as my first BC for 3 months and haven't noticed any significant side effects. There's been no weight gain and I've been able to actually start and maintain a fitness program required for a summer job/career (we'll see where it leads!). My period was a bit off the first couple of times with spotting but I read in the pamphlet it should be expected and for about a month, I've been completely 'normal'. The only thing MAY have been the lower sex drive but it was good for mine to shift down a gear so that can't be classified as a problem, and that can probably be attributed to other events in my life. I suggest everyone here take a step back and see if weight gain, acne, sex drives, etc. may be a consequence of other life subjects that shouldn't be blamed on BC. We all go through these events for different reasons and it would be a shame to denounce a valid and proven pharmaceutical product on account of needing a scapecoat.

I'm 17 years old.
I started taking birth control to help lighten my periods and reduce cramps. I also thought it would be nice to know exactly when they were coming.
Back in November (07), I started taking Yaz. I bled through the whole first pack. I bled halfway through the second pack until the end. I bled halfway through the third pack until the end. By the end of the third pack i already had a new prescription lined up for ALESSE.
I started taking Aviane, which is the generic version of Alesse. I started bleeding on the 13th day of my first pack until the end. I'm on my second pack and started bleeding on the 10th day.
I called my doctor and she said I needed more proestregin. So, she prescribed Loestrin. However, what she prescribed me is the the 21 pills with the 7 day period.. But I have free samples of Loestin with 24 pills and a four day period. My question is, does it matter which one, like, will the length affect anything?
After reading some of these posts it freaked me out, but everyone responds differently. I'm going to give it a shot when this Aviane runs out. Just thought I'd share my experience with other pills. Funny thing is, I have two friends who take Yaz with NO problems, and two friends who take Aviane with NO problems. All these girls are different sizes, weights, taking it for different reasons.. so once again, it affects everyone differently. Good luck, ladies.

I am 22 years old and I have been on the Yasmin pill for nearly two years...at first everything was fine. I was dating someone when I got on the pill and didnt really realize a change in my moods back then, but has been becoming more and more apparent now. I have never been the type to be depressed or have low self esteem, but within the past year I have noticed dramatic mood swings. I couldn't figure out why I felt so unhappy all of the time until I realized that this pill may be the cause. It was like I could almost feel my emotions plummet and I would start hating myself and worrying about insignificant things. I know they say that being in college sometimes brings on depression for different reasons, but never have I expirienced feelings quite like this.
Over time, my PMS has gotten worse and worse. I have a distorted image of my body, feelings of worthlessness, fatigue, and some anxiety in social situations. I have been wanting to go out less and less and be alone more and more. My appetite has increased and all I can sometimes think about is food. Luckily I work out like a maniac and weight gain really hasnt been a problem.
I have been on an emotional roller coaster for quite some time now and I am ready to get off! One minute I feel happy, the next minute I feel horrible inside, depressed, and lathargic. I feel tired all the time, even when I don't do anything during the day. Sometimes I rather sleep than do anything at all just to escape. I start worrying about things that I shouldn't worry about and sometimes I can't concentrate on things. The only reason I have stayed on the pill this long is because I have wanted my period to be regular, but if this is whats making me feel so unlike myself, I rather be irregular and happy!!! Honestly, I can say that there have been very few times when I have been happy in the past 6 to 8 months, Every once and awhile, I feel really happy and I can't believe how good it feels! Then it goes away. It's absolutely horrible. I urge you to get off this pill if you have been feeling this way as well. Taking something that messes with your hormones is not natural, and if it puts you on an emotional roller coaster ride, its not worth it! I finished my pack and I'm just getting over my period. I am going to see if I feel any better this upcoming week and I will post how I feel.

If I were you , I would have it removed ASAP. I had the Mirena for 16 months and I had every symptom you can think of. Depression, mood swings, bloating, back aches, severe headaches, 20lb weight gain, and high blood pressure. It had gotten to the point where I even had to go to a neurologist to get cat scans. All test were negative and I took it upon myself to have the Mirena removed. Literally 2 weeks after I had it removed I lost 10lbs without exercise. I have lost 5 more lbs since then, that was March 17, 2009. All of the symptoms that I had have went away. I feel like a different person. I checked my pressure last night for the first time since I've had it removed and it was 117 over 70. this is a great blood pressure, this is without taking any medication. With the mirena it was running around 140 over 100.
