I can't believe all of these posts, wow. I was starting to feel as though I was alone with all of the symptoms I was experiencing. I started this drug 2 1/2 weeks ago at 25mg am/pm and am currently up to 75mg am/am. I have really bad chest pain/tightness and mild shortness of breath. As someone else had mentioned, pop is enhanced not dulled, seems as though its like pins on my tongue. I have been forgetting words but not too bad, just for a couple of seconds. The anxiety is the worst, sometimes I lay in bed and the chest pain will increase and I get so axious it feels as though I'm going to die. I went to the ER last night but they did an EKG and told me my heart was fine that the chest pain most likely was not related to my heart. (I'm a 22 year old male and have never had problems with my heart) These chest pains only started after starting this drug. I'm ready to try something else. This was the first drug I was put on for my seizures, my doctor said it could possibly help the seizures/headaches/weight. These side effects are just too much.

I've been on NuvaRing for the past three weeks and decided today to abandon this contraceptive. I'm disappointed, especially because it's incredibly easy to use and doesn't give me the side effects i experienced on the pill (which included intense vomiting after one or two drinks). Only this morning did I realize that the irritability, lack of sex drive, migraines and depression I've been experiencing recently could be attributable to NuvaRing. I have been dealing with a massive workload recently and thought everything I was experiencing stemmed from that. But this morning after my boyfriend and I discussed my mood swings and complete lack of sex drive, I checked the side effects in the NuvaRing packet. No mention of loss of sex drive (can someone explain this--I feel like I've had tons of friends experience this side effect from hormonal contraceptives so why is not an official side effect?), but the packet advises women with a history of depression to consult with their doctor frequently. I have a history of depression (my doctor didn't inquire) and have been experiencing suicidal impulses the last two weeks for the first time in years. Though I originally attributed those impulses to overwork and exhaustion, I'm now wondering how much of this can be chalked up to NuvaRing.

Kenalog can be great and it can be bad. I had a bad accident and have a HUGE encapuslated scar around my chin and jaw. It makes my face have NO character and looks masculine and square. For the scarring I was told to massage it at first and it would dissipate with time. For the scar under my chin, where they put my jaw back together, I had what are called "dog ear" scars which are hanging skin really. A NOT very smart doctor injected me TOO close to the surface and it caused the colored indentation you ALL have been discussing. IT IS reversible. Two years later and lots of daily applications of retin-a (tretinoin) you can barely see that it ever was an indent nor discolored.
I was disappointed that my scarring under ths skin around the chin/jaw never did go away and found another doctor. This doctor VERY cautiously started, to my horrid fear as I thought this was "flesh eating bacteria" to offer and proceed, with my permission to give me injections. SLOWLY the scarring is going down, and today I went for treatment THREE with Kenalog 40 which is a higher dose than he had previously given. I have very fibrous scar tissue and he is very careful to actually go INTO the scar and not the skin. I am a bit worried that with the higher dose it may actually do some harm, but lets see and so far this doctor seems to REALLY know how to use this stuff. I think it is a great option for certain conditions and when used properly. I am hoping that you guys discuss with local specialists who is recommended in your region because the provider and their experience is important. You would not get breast implants from a dentist would you?

UPDATE:
I went to my gyn on Monday and told the nurse how I was feeling and that I wanted to switch BCPs. She spoke to the dr. and he refused to switch me. He said if I didn't like it to just stop it but that he wasn't going to give me a prescription for another BCP. That it was too soon to see any side affects and to give it another two cycles. She later said it might be the sudden surge of horomones that might make me feel that way. I told her I don't know but i felt really mad and not myself although it was two weeks everybody else noticed a huge negative change in me as well. Mind you I am a brand new patient and this was the first prescription this dr gave me. I had not take BCP for alomst 10 years so I don't know what his problem was. Now the only thing I can think of is I am very overweight... ... but aside from that I don't have any other health problems. so is this the only pill that can be prescribed to obese women?????? I am so disappointed in my dr, I was excited that he was only 2 blocks from me but I am switching.

At first I thought this was great but after 18 days I awoke with some stomach tenderness & it moved to horrible back pain. I did notice a lil burning after intercourse at times. I figured it was just irritation but also got a bit concerned of UTI as they are so not fun.
The back pain though was severe so I went to check online side effects. I decided I was in too much pain to wait till the 21st day & just took it out..I've decided its definately not the method for me. I am disappointed cause it seemed initally seemed like the miracle method. Yes I too say the back pain probably is like labor even though I've not had any kids. I have been uncomfortable no matter what I have done. Its like cramping in conjunction with it. Felt like it was internal organs like Kidney's or something, I feel miserable. I had a DNC once to merely scrape the uternine wall this pain is worse than the cramping associated with that. With that they tell you not to intercourse a duration.

I was just given the NuvaRing to try yesterday, I did not even last 24 hours! Literally 4 hours after I put it in, my eye started to twitch, constantly. I started have chest pain and pressure, almost like when you have bronchitis. My legs felt crampy, my back hurt, I couldn't sleep, and I had the worst headaches. Seriously. I hoped it would pass by morning, but no luck, so I called the GYNO and she said to remove it and wait to see if the symptoms go away. I removed it this afternoon, and this evening, I am still feel crappy, but at least a tad better.
I read and re-read the Nuvaring packaging looking for my side effects, and there were none. I am so disappointed with this. It was the worst experience I have ever had with birth control!

My skin doctor recommended the Neutrogena sunscreen with helioplex. I was excited to learn about it's benefits, until I used it a couple of times. My skin got bumpy and an itchy rash appeared. My skin is flaking off. Obviously this product has some side effects and I am disappointed in the product. Would the sunscreen that contains Mexoryl be any better?

Lupron is terrible! I was given lupron after my lap which discovered endometriosis. I had my second injection last week. My pelvic pain is still here and now the Lupron side effects are killing me. I have insomnia, restlessness, bad mood swings, back hurts all the time, fatigue all the time, depression, headaches, and awful HOT FLASHES. I was not given other options but to take this poison. If I had done my research I would have said hell no to Lupron. It's all about the money...Dr's and pharmacy companies are making the big bucks while most of us suffer. Oh yes, and my blood pressure, which is normally low (110/60) is now up to 150/100. I'm not thinking this is too great for my health. And another sad thing is that the long term effects are not really known. I WILL NOT take another injection. I would rather take my regular endo pain over this in a heartbeat. Don't let them fool you.......Lupron is a VERY BAD thing. Anyone who is thinking about....do you research and think long and hard . Is it worth it? I don't think so...

About six months after my daughter started taking yasmine. her moods changed, her personality changed, she was is a state of depression and was having panic attacks regularly.she lost an excessive amount of weight and was thinking about suicide. I asked her doctor and a gyn if the yasmine could possibly be causing these side effects. They both said no. So she started getting treatments for depression and anxiety and was put on medication. Paxil. This medication seemed to be helping at first but then she started having the same effects as before and she was still taking the yasmine. in the last 3 months she has been taking the birth control shot and has not taken yasmine or paxil and is now doing great. I'm really disappointed in her doctor's because a lot of her misery could have been avoided if we had been told this earlier. My daughter was on Yasmine for 2 years before I finally decide to check the side effects from the internet myself. Now she says she feels so much better and is back doing things with her friends again is having a fun teenage life. Never again will I let her use Yasmine!!!!

hi eryka,
i tried st johns wort for about 3 months,i think it helped a little, not sure as i stopped taking yasmin not long after i started taking it so the improvement could have been down to that, have not tried it again since i have been off yasmin though,it worth a try, studies have found it to be just as effective for depression as prescription drugs but it has a lot less side effects, it does take up to 6 weeks for you to feel any great improvement though so don't be disappointed if you don't feel instantly better, keep with it for at least 2-3 months.
hope that is of some help to you.

First off, I can't believe I found this site. For once I don't feel alone about having side effects from the Nuva Ring.
I'd been on Nuva for over 2.5 yrs when I left it at school and thus accidentally went off of nuva for a month and a half. I was shocked at how much better I felt after a few hormone-free weeks:
-I could finally drink alcohol in normal amounts and not get crippling hangovers the next day - before even just a few drinks would send me over the edge the next morning.
-My sex drive doubled. I didn't know my sexual capacity until going off of this. (Anyone have a favorite non-pharmaceutical contraceptive they'd like to recommend???)
-I don't get mood swings anymore- when I was on Nuva I knew that I'd get at least one day a month where I'd sit in bed and cry for hours, fully aware that I was being irrational. I was emotionally unstable for a whole week every month.
These are just a few of the many things I've noticed. I'm very disappointed that it took a mistake 2.5 years later for me to realize that it was because of Nuva.

HI ALL! I am back! I tried to stay away from this site and just not think about my problems at all....but yet..this site helps me so much! Just an update: I have been off of Yasmin 15 months now. Physically, I look great and am in pretty good shape. Mentally, I am STILL fighting the anxiety. My symptoms are weakness, vomiting (always in the morning), nervousness enough to make me crazy although no panic attacks anymore, sleepiness, and minor aches and pains in head and muscles. Sometimes I have trouble sleeping as well due to the nervousness. I take Clonazepam occasionally (not very often at all), and exercise as much as I can stand. I recently went back to the doctor for the vomiting and nervousness and they also gave me Lexapro. I was also terrified of it. I was so disappointed they gave me something like that, I actually BECAME depressed over having to take it. Needless to say, it is still sitting on the counter unopened. If you are taking Lexapro, is it helping you???? Please let me know! Would you start taking something like that when you have already been off 15 months (although anxiety is low grade, it is constant!)?

hi everybody,
sitting here reading all your posts feeling really crappy.
Off yasmin now for about 8 months and trying to take it one day at a time.
I should be at my works christmas party tonight but am feeling so bad this weekend i pulled out. Cant moan to my husband as he is already annoyed at me for not going tonight.
we were really looking forward to it but i just couldnt face it. I work with such a good bunch of people and i know they will be disappointed i didnt go tonight.
regular posters will know my story. Was on yasmin for 4 very long years. Caused me huge problems, like anxiety, eyesight problems and many more. Eventually saw a very good fertility doctor who tested my hormone levels.
I started my course of hcg injections last sunday for low hormone levels.
For anybody who might know what is normal, mine were estradiol 257 and progesterone 37. Day 3 levels were normal which at least mean that i am not having an early menopause.
My fertility doctor said they are extremely low so prescribed me hcg injections. Have a friend who is a nurse so she showed me how to do the injections myself.
Have 4 injections every second day in the last week of my cycle. Does anybody know if they could make me feel so bad. I felt fine up until yesterday morning. Woke up feeling very anxious and down as well as feeling terribly irritable.
I seem to have lost so much weight in the last few weeks. None of my clothes fit me anymore. went to look for something to wear and even size 8 is too big. Are they making clothes bigger or have i really lost that much weight.
Is there anybody here who knows anything about hcg injections and their side effects. My doctor told me i would have no side effects.
I have so much anxiety again. I was feeling ok but feel like i am back to square one, like i am on yasmin again.
Could this be to do with the hcg.
I am sorry if this post is really depressing but i feel this is the only place i can really talk to people.
I would really appreciate any ideas. Hopefully when i get up in the morning i will feel better as i dont think i can go back to this again.
Thanks everyone

started taking Doxycycline for MRSA Staph infection. 2nd time having. Given along with Bactriban ointment for the nose. 1st time had, was prescribed Septra (trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole). Seemed to work, but disappointed when reappeared. Doc. thought Doxy would be more effective. Stomach burning like acid reflux. Relief some when only lite meal, like rice. Doctor prescribed 2 pills twice daily to start... had me vomiting and dizzy. Then settled to 1 pill twice daily. Stomach pain definite issue with this drug!

I have been treated for HTN for the past year (I am 47) and have had great blood pressure results with Lisinopril, but I also developed the horrible cough.
I first started lisinopril first in February of 2005 but noticed the development of a terrible, gagging, cough that made it difficult for me to communicate at times (I am an RN). I would feel fine for a while and then start in with the cough...even the MDs noticed it and asked me about it at work.
I was hoping that it was just a winter cough thing since my BP was really doing well on the 10mg of lisinopril, but with my stress incontinence problem and the lost nights of sleep, and daily coughing-gagging fits, I had to stop it after a few months. I noticed that the cough subsided within a few days after stopping the drug.
My MD started me on 25 mg. HCTZ which lowered my BP although my diastolic was sometimes higher than he liked it.
I had been taking HCTZ until two weeks ago. After getting a few too many BPs in the 140/90 range, I decided to stop taking it and restarted my lisinopril. I felt okay for a day or two and then COUGH, COUGH, GAG, RETCH....all over again. I know it's the lisinopril now. I can't handle this coughing, I do groups in a mental health facility....I can't make it through them sometimes, I also have a horrible time with my stress incontinence because of the coughing.
I just restarted my HCTZ today and hope to have shaken off this cough within a few days. I see my MD in three weeks and hopefully we can work something else out. I was very disappointed in the lisinopril since it is very cheap and got my BP to a nice 120/78 range.

My 17yr old son was given this antibiotic for a sinus infection, he had not been on any antibiotics for at least one year.
Our family doctor gave him a HUGE dose of Levaquin, 750mg for 5 days. He finished the dose 2 days ago but is still experiencing sevaral negative side effects of Levaquin.
He has pressure in his chest and feels exhausted, weak, nauseated, and feverish. He has no appetite and has an extreme headache in the back of his head. He is unable to go to school because he is dizzy and sleepy.
In my opinion, our doctor should never have prescribed this particular medication. There are several other antibiotics available without these side effects. Another factor was the expense, the cost was 125.00. This is ridiculous when other options are available. I am left to wonder if the physicians have a motive for prescribing new drugs, could it be more beneficial to themselves than to the patients receiving the medication?
I am disappointed and feel this drug needs further testing.

@NURSET:
Yes, I'm feeling the same way as you describe (been off Yasmin for 4 months now, too!) !!
There are some good days, sometimes even weeks (2 or so) and then out of nothing there is an anxiety and depression, which almost paralyses me (just had a very bad day yesterday!!)!!
The weakness all over my body comes back so that it's even very hard to lift an arm or to walk. I feel dizzy and foggy in my head and am again a little tired (just a LITTLE BIT of the tiredness I experienced during taking Yasmin though!!).
That lasts for a few days, sometimes even weeks and then lessens again. It just feels like my whole body and head has been completely messed up by this pill and is just VERY SLOWLY getting back to normal and in balance and every pore is fighting against this horrible Yasmin stuff!!
Seems that there is a connection between these odd symptoms and my hormones (which are still NOT in balance again!! I'm even suffering from PCOS (found out by a blood test that my gyn did a few weeks ago!), which I never had before taking Yasmin! Had just ONE regular period 9 weeks ago since getting off Yasmin!), because during the times I'm feeling worse, also my skin gets very oily, I get terrible acne all over my face and shoulders and my hair is getting oily very fast, too.
What I'm experiencing too is a very heavy bloating all over my body. Sometimes I feel like a very big balloon shortly before exploding!! I've gained about 12 pounds after getting off Yasmin, without eating more or doing anything different as before!!! I'm so despaired bout this.
I had been on the pill for about 5 (!) years and I think that it might take me even a little bit longer to feel really healthy again than all the others who got opened their eyes about Yasmin much earlier than me.... :-(
One week I write, that I'm doin better and am happy again and the other week (just like this week...) I feel really disappointed and anxious, because I'm suffering from so many symptoms again.
I'm just so thankful to have my husband who stands right beside me and always tells me not to give up and that there will come better times again. I think without him I wouldn't get over these horrible times at all!
All the best to everyone out there, going through the same!!
I would still be very thankful for any kind of mail about your experiences, perhaps any tips how to get better faster...??

I've been off Yasmin for almost 4 months now and have gotten a lot better, but still deal with some anxiety, depression, and mood swings. The panic attacks are less frequent and the depression has gotten much better, but it is taking some time and I am not quite back "normal". I'd say the absolute worst time was about 1.5-2 months after I stopped Yasmin--the anxiety and depression was unbearable then. The toughest part about having been off Yasmin for a while now is that I have greater expectations and get so disappointed when I have residual symptoms of anxiety. Furthermore, people are not as sympathetic after a while with my symptoms and cannot believe that it would take this long to recover from an oral contraceptive. This website is amazing and all of your support has been so helpful in my recovery. It's hard to find acknowledgement from people because many do not understand what this drug can do to the mind and body. Yasmin has made what would have been one of the happiest times in my life, one of the most challenging and I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy. Good luck to all of you in Yasmin recovery. Take one day at a time and don't forget to praise yourself for every bit of progress you make.

Desperate Boyfriend Again
I was wondering how long it takes for Yasmin to get out of your system or to put it another way, how long do the ugly symptoms continue? Does it matter how long you have been taking them. How many of you who suffered the symptoms have suffered from anxiety and depression before. Do you think that the Yasmin magnifies these problems?
I would really appreciate your feedback. I was a bit disappointed that no-one has responded to my last post. It is not easy for us guys either because we are trying so hard to understand but we need support too.
I have suffered depression myself so I think I understand some of the symotoms but we still need help.

I have been on Lipitor for almost 18 months. Initially. When I first started the med, I did not have any side effects like others. I felt absolutely fine. Recently, I had to take a epidural for back pain. Shortly, afer that experience, Lipitor began to show it's true colors so to speak. I became numb in teh genitals and impotent. My doctors could not find anything wrong. All lab test and the prostrate was normal. I had absolutely no sensation whatsoever. I was devastated since I really enjoy sex. As of today, I stopped taking this terrible drug and expect a miracle very very soon.

Thank you so much for all of yoru input! I started lisinopril a year ago. Shortly after became depressed. My physician put me on antidepressants. Ultimately I went off them and started seeing a counselor. He looked up my medications and reported that it was no coincidence that the depression & fatigue started shortly after the lisinopril. My physician is switching meds this week. Oh - my blood pressure is still elevated on the lisinopril also! I'm disappointed in this medication. As I have been a nurse for 16 years and am now pursuing my medical doctor degree, I certainly will never prescribe it!
Thanks Again. You've given me hope.

I began taking Yasmin just a few days ago. I am slowly realizing that this is DEFINITELY NOT the bcp for me. I have been experiencing severe depression, paranoia, drowsiness, mood swings, nausea, complete lack of patience in every way, etc etc etc... When I came upon this site and read some of the testimonies given by other disappointed yasmin users, I instantly felt relieved. For a while, I convinced myself I personally was going insane. Thanks to this website I was able to reason with myself and now do something about it - get off Yasmin ASAP. Sorry to my sweet boyfriend for putting up with me since I have been on it.

Ok. This is crazy. My doctor is a VERY good doctor, and has denied my charges against the Mirena. I had not looked into the reported side effects when I complained to my doctor. I have had my Mirena since 2004. No problems at all until about 3 months ago. (maybe longer than that adding the mood swings, loss of libido since the birth of our last son, vaginal irritation, dryness, yeast infections that I never had before the IUD, breast tenderness, joint pain, recent bleeding that lasted a month) I began having heart palpataions so severe that I thought I was having panic attacks. Like a heavy weight being laid upon my chest, too small of an area for my heart to be able to properly beat, loss of breath, loss of sleep (causing me to take tylenol pm to be able to rest). I went to the doctor, and was concerned about the symptoms. She was alarmed, she has known me over 5 years, and I have been in her office only a handful of times. She ran an ekg, did chest x-rays, and found nothing. She sent me on to the cardiologist to have blood work and an echo. They found nothing. I asked her about the possibility of the Mirena being the problem. She thought it was doubtful, but wants to look at it during an exam anyway. My hubby and I are considering having it removed. We can't figure out what other problem there would be. Please email me if anyone has had symptoms similar! I am VERY concerned.
