First of all, I am so happy and relieved to have found this site. Thank you so much to all of the woman who have posted their experiences with the mirena. I have been so scared over the past few months that I have literally been going CRAZY. Here is my experience:

I had the mirena inserted at my 6 week check-up after giving birth to my son. I chose the mirena because my doctor recommended it. Anyways, ever since I have had my son (being my first child) have been severely stressed out (of course). Although I have had several different stressful situations go on (my sister becoming very sick, my parents getting a divorce, moving out for the first time, ex troubles) I have been feeling not only stressed, but major anxiety, and I suspect depression. Anyhow, I never contributed any of this to my birth control because I assumed that this is what stress feels like (seeing as though I am lucky to say that I have never really had serious problems to deal with). Well this is where it all came to a head..yesterday.

Since giving birth to my son six months ago, I have since become a H-U-G-E hypochondriac, extremely anxious, depressed, dizzy spells, terrible mood swings, almost daily brain fog (which I find to be the scariest), I just do not feel like the same person. I feel like I am trapped inside my head (thats the best I can describe it). I have no energy and I do not feel like doing anything and when I do all I can think about is how not right I feel. I have started questioning how I feel almost constantly. I have trouble concentrating, have headaches (which I NEVER had before) and now find it difficult to wear my contact lenses. WELL, yesterday I was at work, which also happened to be my birthday, and had such a horrible dizzy spell that I instantly became sick to my stomach, and my heart started to pound. I was so scared by this I instantly started to cry and asked to go home. My mom, who is a psych nurse (for 15 years), was at her home. I rushed over there and cried to her that something was wrong with me and demanded her to tell me if I was crazy. I have been so obsessed with feeling ill that it has consumed me and the bad part is that I know it is all in my head, I just can't overcome it. That is when she asked me if I thought that it may be my birth control? *DING DING* I haven't been on birth control for so long that I forgot how madly I have reacted to it in the past. I then remembered why I had quit taking the birth control patch 5 years ago!

That is when I looked up the side effects and found this blog! I feel so much better now. I now have hope after reading everyone else's experiences which are so similar to mine. I have already made an appointment to get it taken out tomorrow. I have also made an appointment with my family doctor to talk about my anxiety and depression symptoms and see what he suggests (since I am not usually a down or anxious person). I will definitely keep you all posted! Thank you all for posting, I think it has changed my life!

I lasted for one week on Nuvaring.... put it in on 7/26, took it out on 8/2. I expected some slight hormonal type side effects while my body adjusted to the ring... this is my first hormonal BC ever.... Saturday, I couldn't keep my legs still... jittery and anxious, cramped and so uncomfortable. Yesterday I got a very bad dizzy spell while in the shower. Over the next several hours, the dizzy spells came more frequently and got stronger, to the point where I felt I was going to faint. My heart was pounding, I was sweating, my chest felt heavy, and the room was spinning. First spell was at 6:30 am, I took the ring out at 11:00. The spells continued for the next 1/2 hour or so, and I noticed a huge welt above my ear.... hot and sore to the touch, radiating pain down into my neck. I've also had a stiff neck for days, which I didn't attribute to the ring until reading someone elses posting here. I'm feeling better today, though the symptoms have not completely gone away. I presume it will take 7+ days for this crap to get out of my system.

My husband stumbled across this website and first I would like to thank everyone who have posted their experiences on the NuvaRing. Because of you guys I now know I'm not losing my mind.

I started the NuvaRing March of 2008 and I started getting dizzy spells May 2009. I actually got my first dizzy spell when I was driving. Everything started to spin very fast!! My husband had to grab the wheel and tell me how to slow down and how fast to do it. That was the scariest thing ever!! My head felt a numbing sensation in my head. I had a pain above my left eye and it would shoot up my head and down my neck. The dizzy spells would come whenever, once every 8 days to twice in one day. I have had an MRI and an MRA done and nothing. The docs have had me on so many migraine meds to try to get a handle on this and nothing has helped. My longest migraine lasted for 14 days, that was in May. This month (July) I got a migraine on the 13th, took the ring out on the 21st, and had a dizzy spell this morning but this afternoon and especially this evening I feel amazing.

Since getting on the NuvaRing, like so many of you, my sex drive does not exist. It has caused so many fights between my husband and I. Its hard to tell him that he is still attractive but I can't explain why I'm not excited. So thank you for writing your experiences. He got to read that I'm not the only one and I wasn't making it up.

These last three months have been hell for my family and I. I have been like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. So much tension has caused everyone to walk on pins and needles when they are around me.

So lets sum it up here, after being on the NuvaRing for 14 months I started getting dizzy spells, migraines, nausea, neck pain, twice I've puked because of the room spinning so damn fast, and very very VERY low sex drive.

I'M NOT CRAZY!!!! :)

It seems that everyone is having similar symptoms. I have been on Doxy for about 14 days now and I'm feeling worse every day. I am on it because i had been bitten by a tick and contracted Lyme disease. I don't know much about the disease but it has me freaked out. I started taking the antibiotic 2 weeks after being bitten; losing my balance and almost falling to the ground. I also had a couple of dizzy spells after eating. I seemed to feel a little bit better the first week of taking it but started feeling the side effects. It started out with the occasional dizzy spell then came the exhaustion, anxiety, depression, lower back aches, soreness in the back of my eyes, stiff neck, headache in the back of my head, flu like shivers, racing heart, and complete body aches. I also found out the hard way not to go out into the sun while on Doxy. Felt like the tops of my hands were being pricked with a million needles and burning. I wish I could stop taking the drug and be done, but I am already scared about the outcome of the Lyme disease. I hope I can feel normal again soon.

I stopped taking Yasmin about a week and a half ago. I assumed it was the cause of two anxiety attacks I had, constant lump/tightness, weird tingling feelings in my throat and chest and overall body aches and ill-feeling. I haven't felt anything severe since stopping except for a dizzy spell when my period came. I'm wondering if anyone has any idea as to how long these side effects could go away. Off and on, I still get a tightness/heaviness in my chest, and although I don't get a lump in my throat anymore, it's like a numbness and constriction in different places in my neck, and sometimes a clogged up feeling in my ears. A friend told me it takes three months for the pill to leave your system, and I have a Doctor appointment this Friday, but I'm just hoping to hear any advice/suggestions. I had an EKG, cat scan and chest x-ray and everything looks fine in my body. It's just really scary and hard to shake the worry that something worse may be wrong with me. Reassurance would be much appreciated!

I had my Mirena put in just over two year's, ago, and bled for five month's straight. Lost my milk shortly after the mirena was inserted. I have headaches all the time, dizzy spell's, and after about a year not really much bleeding anymore during that time but very bad cramps, and break out's. Also have had to go on Anxiety medication, and have gained so much weight that doesn't seem to come off no matter what I do. I wouldn't recommend the mirena to anyone.

After putting 2 and 2 together, I had my Mirena removed Monday, It's Friday and, I already feel MUCH better! I have much more patience with my son and husband, and physically feel like I can do so much more! Still a dizzy spell here and there, but getting back to my old self. If you think your side effects are from the hormones in the IUD, they probably are!

I am 49 and following abdominal surgery developed a PE (I have a history of DVTs post orthopaedic surgery). I am now on Warfarin for life. I have not had too many side effects, the odd dizzy spell and very tired, but I have now been told that blood tests relating to my liver function are outside the normal ranges and that this is one of the side effects of Warfarin. Can anyone enlighten me as to the implications of this and what they have done to avoid this or stop it getting any worse? Thanks

I have been taking Yazmin for 4 days now and no side effects, even though my breast are king of sore. Does anybody know or have experience an growth on their breasts? I don't want my breast to grow. I'm already a D-cup.
How lost does this soreness lasts or the growth?

Complete Nightmare. Please read...I was on Minocin for a week. I developed major CNS (central nervous system) side effects including major light sensitivity, back pain, runny nose. The worst of the lot were the mental side effects which included extreme paranoia, the inability to concentrate, depression, suicidal thoughts. I couldn't go to work, I was up all night crying, couldn't socialize properly or look people in the eye. i felt completely out of my mind and didn't know why..until i stopped taking the drug the next day.

My mother who is a registered nurse accompanied me to my dermatologist the following week to describe my experience. Let's just say he denied my claims and that there could be any connection between my side effects and Minocin, rushed me out of his office without treatment or refunding the fee that I already paid to see him, and continued to cancel my future appointments with him. I never heard from him again.

Over the following months, my mother did her own research at her hospital. Turns out,she witnessed and heard of many young women come in with the same side effects..and they were in a mentally unstable state. They were admitted to the psych ward and most were suicidal.

I know this sounds extreme and everyone's body reacts differently to drugs, but this is a true recount of my experience with Minocin and I wanted to share it.

Background: I've never taken regular prescription drugs other than anitibitocs for infections, and am otherwise a healthy person. I have no history of depression and was not going through any emotional stress at the time. I was not on the pill at the time, so my body was not bombarded with high levels of tetracyclin (which Minocin is of) although I was on the pill for a year, 3 years prior.

On 4.25.07 after four days of taking YAZ i found myself in the ER havinf a CT of my head, lungs, sonogram of both my legs, x-ray of my lungs, ekg of my heart, blood & urine samples taken. All in all I spent 11 hours being poked and examined only to be told to stop taking YAZ. My symptoms were: extreme dizziness, heart palpatations, headache, tingling in my legs, partial numbness in my left check, fatigue. They were concerned that I may have had a blood clot due to the pills and that's why they were looking at my legs & lungs. If I had developed a clot in my legs I would've had to taken blood thinners for 6 months and if it would've been in my lungs I would've been admitted into the hospital that day. Now a day later I am extremely tired, have a heart monitor attached to my chest. (They're having me wear this for 24 hrs.) I've had one dizzy spell and feel a little "out of it". If I had known that such a small little pill could create so much havoc I would've never taken it in the first place.

to the last poster:

<< lately i have had dizzy spells, this morning i thought i was going to pass out so i had to lay on the floor for ages, >>

OMG, this sounds so much like me on january, 1st this year!! I just got up from bed and went into the dining room for breakfast as the same thing happened to me!!! I got a heavy dizzy spell and therefor laid down on the floor and wasn't able even to lift my head up just a little bit without thinking I was going to pass out!! My husband called a doctor which immediately took me to hospital...

Not to mention, that all of the tests they had made there came out negative... Only my blood pressure was very high (always had a blood pressure around 110/70 or 120/80) with 170/100 which I never had before!!

Please get off this horrible stuff immediately before everything gets worse and worse!! I know what I'm saying (had been on Yasmin for 5 years and was nearly about to die because of 100s of horrible symptoms since december 2004 without knowing why!!!) I got off Yasmin in february this year and never had such a heavy dizzy spell or those feelings of passing out or high blood pressure ever since then!!

All the best to everybody out there!!

Greetings
Silke

Hi worried!!

Yes, you're right, it's another chemical you're about to put into your body without knowing what this stuff might do again to you!! Well, it's everybody's own decision and I just can give you some advise which is only my personal opinion and experience:

I didn't go on anti-anxiety medicine although some doctor's had tried to put me on it in the emergency room on January, 1st, this year, when I was brought there because of a dizzy spell, that didn't want stop at all... I took their medicine for about 3 days and felt like I was no longer alive!! Well, everybody reacts different on such stuff and I just can tell you my experience and it wasn't good and made things just worse!!

The only thing that helped, when I had such really really bad days was some baldrian (don't know how you say in english, might it be "valerian"??) or St. John's worth. But all just natural and nothing chemical because of my experience with Yasmin and the anti anxiety medicine I had only been taking for about 3 days...

And one more thing you should know: I KNOW SO MUCH WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH!!! And I'm feeling so much with you that I'm nearly about to cry!! These are very hard times for each woman who has to go through the same as us but please believe me: Better times are ahead!!! It's a very very slow process (I've been off Yasmin for 8 months now and am still not back to completely normal feelings but SO MUCH better that a few months ago; I wasn't able to work since december 2004 and two weeks ago I started working again!!! Never believed that I could do this ever again and now I do!!), it's just every month a very little step. But it WILL GET BETTER!! Please hold on!!!

My family doctor always said (against the opinion of the ER doctors!!) that he doesn't think that I need some anti-anxiety medicine because he always believed, that there was something else causing my anxiety and that it wasn't all just me!! And he was so right!!! These chemical medicines are just another thing that you have to get off of some day and it will be again a very hard time, just similar as now!!

One thing you could do for yourself: Search the internet for people who are taking or have been taking such medicine and read about their experiences with it. That might help to find the right decision for you!!

Please, don't give up and stay strong (you're stronger than you might believe at the moment; I know what I'm saying!!)!!

Big hugs and god's bless to everyone out there still suffering from this wonder medicine "from hell"!!

PS: Oh there is one thing, that in my case helped me so much through very hard days: MUSIC!! Don't know if it could help you too, but music was always very important in my life and is able to heal your soul at least a little bit!! Perhaps you should just try it. Take a headphone and a walkman and put in some music you're really keen on, close your eyes and just feel it. Well, it's worth a try!!

I was taking 300 mg. of Welbutrin in early 2003, and had several episodes of severe dizziness, which caused me to fall a couple of times. Cut back to 150 mg. and was OK for a year. Went back to 300 mg. last week (on advice from a psychologist) and had another dizzy spell yesterday.

Has anyone else had these symptoms?

I took Ultracet for a total of 5 days to relieve the pain from shingles in my leg and foot. Although my doctor prescribed the drug 4 times per day, I found that the first one knocked me out for 14 hours. When I awoke, I had the mother of all headaches and pain in my right eye. About 40 minutes after taking the second pill on day 2, the eye pain was gone, but a mild headache continued...However, I found that I could not attain a deep sleep. I stayed in bed, feeling drugged, but never drifted into a comfortable sleep; I was restless and antsy. On day 3 I took an Ultracet in the morning and one at night, the same dose for day 4 and only one on day 5. I continued to be restless and agitated with a numbing headache. I also felt that my thought process was noticeably slowed down. I discontinued the drug on the 5th day for two reasons: First I had a dizzy spell, and second, I developed a tremor in my left hand that would flare up for several minutes and then go away. As for the relief of pain, it took the edge off the pain in my leg but never really alleviated the nerve pain on the top of my foot. I still have pain, but after discontinuing Ulracet a week ago, the headache is gone, and the occassional tremor stopped 5 days ago. I'm also back to my regular sleep pattern. It's my humble observation that I'm actually getting more relief from a tube of muscle rub now than I got from the Ultracet.
