I had been suffering from a lingering sinus infection that lead to having Epididymitis (testicular pain). My doctor gave me Levaquin (750mg)/day for 14 days. I read and check with the her about the drug. On the third day I woke up with a terrible itch on my legs. I took my dosage for the day at 7 AM and by 8AM I was in the ER. I had such a reaction to Levaquin that my blood pressure had dropped to 71/49. As soon as I started to feel the effects of reaction I took Benadryl. That saved my life.

I am 28 and this is my first time taking BC pills. Loestrin 24 FE has been okay for me. My side effects include slight nausea (which went away after the first few packs), bloating, occasional breast tenderness, and light headed/anxious at times. I also have had some breakthrough bleeding for a few days during the middle of the packs (which is to be expected for the first few months), but am going to try one more pack before switching to something else. Cramps have definitely been much less, and my periods have lasted for a mere 3 days. I take the pill at night before I go to bed, so perhaps that is why the nausea wasn't so bad.
For those people who don't like this pill -remember that not all pills work for everyone. (I tried Yaz once for 2 days and thought I was going to die!) We all have different body chemistry -so give this one a chance. If it doesn't work for you then try something else. My doctor gave me a sample of Femcon to try after my next pack of Loestrin. She thinks that Femcon will stop my breakthrough bleeding...guess I will find out soon...
Good Luck!

I too have just started taking Femcon about a week and a half ago... I had just started when I began taking it. I had a regular period and then started again yesterday. I am bleeding heavy and have horrible cramps. My doctor gave me this as a sample because he was out of Estrostep what I usually take. I was in a car wreck a few weeks ago and was unsure of whether or not my headache were from that or the BC... I like the convenience but the side affects seem to out weigh the good. I don't believe ill stay on this one.

I am sure glad I found this sight. I was trying to find out if the Prilosec OTC may be why I have had sharp pains in my right side, where my liver is located, and after reading the effects that Prilosec has had on other people I am throwing mine away. I am scheduled to see a doctor in regards to bad dizzy spells, pains that run from my left shoulder, up my neck, my left ear rings terribly, and tremendous pressure behind my left eye. I was fearful that I have a blockage in a vein to my brain. My left leg from above my knee has gone numb, I can't wiggle my toes, I get tremendous cramps in my left calf at least 6 times a night. I feel like a basket case and I have done nothing to make any of these things start happening. A year after having my gall bladder removed and adhesions cut away from my stomach the doctor gave me Prilosec to see if it would help with some very minor stomach pains I was having. As a matter of fact I took a Prilosec an hour ago because of the pain in my liver area and as I write this I have a bad headache, my left arm is tingly, the left side of my neck is tight, I am dizzy, and feel like I want to vomit. No more Prilosec for me and I am definately telling my friend who is on it after he had his esophogus removed 5 years ago due to cancer about what I have read here tonight. He can't figure out why he felt so much better 4 years after his cancer was removed but feels so terrible now. They gave him Prilosec 6 months ago to help him with a phlegm problem. I thank you all for your input on this message board. You helped me out tremendously. I have only been on it for a couple weeks and as of right now I am not going to take it again.

The cure is worse than the disease is true for me with Yasmine. I started because of heavy periods, very painful ovulation, and cysts on my overies. Stop the periods sounded better than a hysterectomy.
My gall bladder has been very sore, and causing me the classic symptoms of gall stones or gall bladder disease. The ultrasounds, MRI's and blood tests are normal, the pain is always there, and very strong at night. I have seen at total of 6 doctors before someone said," birth control pills cause this type of pain." I have quit Yasmin but true to the British Columbia health system it will take another month before I can see my GYN. All women please check all the side effects of birth control pills, it seems so common, we take for granted that it won't be us that has the problem. Just for all you nay sayers out there, I already have a low fat diet, I am 5' 3" and 130lbs.

A few years ago my doctor gave me Zovia birth control. I was on it for about 6 months & skipped my period for 5 of those months. I was nauseous, nearly fainted several times, I would have days where I couldn't eat a bite & then days where I couldn't eat enough! My mood swings were terrible, too. By the 6th month I was so sick I could hardly make it thru college classes. Thankfully, my doctor switched me to a different birth control & I was fine after that- everything went back to normal & I was myself again. I will never, ever, take Zovia again!!!

After reading all your comments here on this website, all I can say is "Thank God, I'm not the only one!" I thought I was going crazy or something. I was on Yasmin for a couple years & loved it! Then I lost my insurance & my doctor gave me some free samples of Femcon Fe. The first month I got acne, severe headaches, moodswings, was terribly nauseous & had trouble keeping food down. Now I'm on the final, 3rd month & I can't eat enough! I'm always hungry (especially for chocolate), I've gained 5lbs, still have acne & headaches, I've experienced random spotting during the month, and now this month my period's late. Ugh! I asked my doctor to switch me to another birth control- she's switching me to Tri-Sprintec. It's offered at the Walmart Pharmacy for $9 a month, which is a lot better than the $45 I had to pay for Yasmin a month. Let's hope this Tri-Sprintec works better than Femcon Fe !!

I had a chronic cough which got worse and developped into bronchitis. My doctor gave me 10 days of 500 mg levaquin. Ten days later I went back, still coughing, even though the bronchitis was a bit better. He gave me another prescription for 7 days of levaquin with a refill.
A week or so into this routine, my legs started to hurt a lot. I thought I was just out of shape and needed to get back to the gym and do some stretching exercises. I could barely climb the stairs to the gym, but I must say that after working with the trainer and stretching a lot (and it hurt a lot) I was able to walk easier and the pain lifted quite a bit. . . for a while.
I also have developped total diarrhea, which made sense to me; because I was trying to kill bad bacteria in my system which I thought was causing the bronchitis.
Fortunately, last week I decided to go to another doctor because I wasn't getting better and I felt my old doctor was just overwhelmed by the health care system and was just going through the motions. This doctor, an ENT doctor, immediately diagnosed me with LPRD (acid reflux which goes all the way to the vocal chords, resulting in cough, tightness in the throat, etc.) I know he's right because I have felt the acid reflux thing at night when I have eaten late and had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner.
Tomorrow I'm heading to a gastro doc to attack the diarrhea, but I wondered if the leg pain had anything to do with the levaquin, since it came about after a week or so on the stuff. and lo and behold found all these postings which have now scared whatever shit I have left out of me!
I'm off to get some magnesium, as someone suggested and would appreciate any other tips anyone might have. My only tip is that stretching out your legs and butt muscles, does temporarily help a bit.

Just yesterday my Doctor gave me a persriction for Lisinopril, because my blood pressure was high while I was there (always high tho when I go to the doctor) She wanted me to start with HALF of a 10MG tablet to start with before bed. I did....and I had the worst night of my life. Pressure in my chest, pain in my chest and around my shoulder, fatigue, shortness of breath. I barely slept. I will NOT be taking this again!!!!!

I have been taking Neurontin for 1 week (300 mg 1x per day and then prescribed to increase to 300 mg 2x per day after 1st week). It has been incredible taking the pain away (hemi-vertibrae bone defect in neck with severe arthritis)!!! Like Oh my goodness wonderful!!! however - by the end of the day - i am 20 lbs bloated and feel like the weight gain is right around the corner... I am very aware of body ( I am a dancer) and need to know if this is going to balance out... i know the answer of it depends oneach person - but some insight would help me not panic right now

I took 600mg of Neurontin 3x a day. I started to get gas during the 5 years I was on the pills. At 1st, I only took the pills 2x a day and it wasn't terrible. Later I had to start taking the pills 3x a day and after my 2nd meal of the day, I would get intestinal pain, bloating, and gas! It didn't seem to matter what I ate. My doctor gave me a zillion tests and could never find the cause of the problem. I had surgery for my neck 3 weeks ago and was weaned off of the Neurontin. For 3 weeks now, I haven't had nay of the gas!!! It was the Neurontin all the time. I am so glad to be off of the Neurontin.

When a class action lawsuit is filed, let me know....this drug should be taken of off the market immediately. We started all of this with an OB/GYN that prescribed this “miracle pill” and now have had to go not only to our primary doctor, but also a psychiatrist, gastrenologist, college campus counselors, psychologists, psychiatrist, and the campus medical doctors; All the while, accumulating enormous doctor bills. All the doctors say, "No, Yasmin won't cause those problems" (except the college campus doctors..wonder why? Hmm.. could it be that they are not in private practice?)....well, I beg to differ. Everyone needs to give this website to their doctor so the doctors can hear from the patients that have taken this drug, and not listen to the pharmaceutical companies that are pushing this drug to be the "miracle pill". Maybe if enough people complain and go to the media, we can get rid of this drug!
My daughter who is 18 was put on Yasmin because of irregular periods, hormonal imbalance, etc. We were told it was the new “miracle pill”. It will make you loose weight, regulate your periods, clear up acne, you name it, it will fix it. Yeah, right.
She started taking this pill in March 2007. She was off at college but called to tell me she was experiencing horrible headaches, behind the eyes. She complained about her stomach hurting, but we just figured it was the stress of freshman year at college. Then she said she got where she couldn’t eat when she went to a restaurant. When she came home in May for the summer, I noticed a total personality change. For example, she was always a neat freak, and now she wouldn’t clean her room. The first day when she drove home, she started crying she was so mad about the traffic. Yes, she has always had a little road rage, but this was ridiculous.
By June, not only could she not be in crowds, like at a restaurant, but now she is having full blown panic attacks and IBS. We called the OBGYN and they said, “Yasmin won’t cause this, go see your primary doctor”. I knew that the only thing that had changed with her was taking the YASMINE. I knew it had something to do with all of this so I “Googled Yasmin” and this website (http://www.medications.com/se/yasmin) was the first one I looked at. All of her symptoms matched everyone else’s! I am so glad we found this website, it explained everything and I had her to stop Yasmin immediately.
So we went to the primary doctor, explained about the Yasmin and how we thought it was the culprit of everything. Of course this doctor also says, “Yasmin won’t cause that”. We told him to look it up on the internet and see how there are over 3000 complaints on this drug, more than any of the other drugs on the market.
Besides the emotional problems she starting having, her pulse and blood pressure was sky high, so he puts her on medicine for that, and puts her on an anxiety medicine and sends her to a psychiatrist. She is very thirsty all the time, and develops IBS. She can’t eat without having pains in her stomach. So, now we’ve have gone from having just irregular periods, to all of the above, plus a psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist doubles her medicine (and puts her Pamine for the IBS) because the panic attacks are gone, but she still is having a lot of nervousness, anxiety, can’t sleep at night, crazy thoughts, worrying all the time, etc. A month later he changes her medicine again, to Effexor. The first 2 weeks, she does okay, but the packet doubles the strength after 2 weeks. It takes 4 weeks for it to take full effect. Right after she doubles this medicine, it is like her senses are on hyper-mode. She can taste everything that is in her food (chili powder, seasonings, etc…), taste the metal in water, and she can hear someone’s phone vibrating, in another room.
Then she goes back to college at the end of August 2007, and it’s horrible. The Effexor is having bad, bad side effects. We called the psychiatrist that she was using at home and he doubled the dose. That was the worse thing they could’ve done. The side effects were worse than ever. I had her to immediately go to a psychiatrist on campus. She told him the whole story and he believed her! Needless to say we switched doctors. He then lowered her dose back down to ½ a dose and hopefully can slowly get her off of all this medicine.
The newest thing she has developed is being hypoglycemic. The campus psychiatrist sent her to a campus medical doctor and he told her that they would get to the bottom of this. He tested her for everything under the sun. Low blood sugar is the only thing they found. But, she hasn’t taken the Yasmin since May. No telling what the results would have came back like if it was done at the time she was taking Yasmin.
Thank goodness she has counselors and doctors there at the campus that believes that Yasmin can cause all of these problems, and are working with her. From what I have read from the people that have used this medicine, although most doctors do not agree, Yasmin takes like 6 months to get out of your system. I think I am going to believe the testimonials of the people who take this medicine, over a doctor who prescribes it.
If everyone goes to the media, their doctors, the FDA, congressmen, and make them aware of these horrible effects, surely we can get this drug off of the market! Does anyone know a class action lawyer that would pursue this? For my child to have to go through all of this is ridiculous, not to mention costly. What do we know of the long term effects this drug will have if it is doing all of this when you first start taking it?
If you have the same concerns as me about this drug, and would be interested in looking into a class action lawsuit, please email: ****** I would be interested to see how many would want to pursue this.

Hello,
I read about how YAZ birth control pill affects the body and psych and I am now scared. This is my 2nd day of YAZ (I've never been on birth control pills ever and I am 27 years old), it's all new to me but after reading all these negative posts about Yaz I don't know what to do. Before the birth control pills, I was depressed, annoying, serious weight problems - 210 lbs :~~((, low energy, low libido, always tired, terrible migraines every 2nd day, ridiculously increased appetite and excessive hunger, hair where it shouldn't be, menstrual blood clots, excessive cramping etc
I have all these problems for 3 years now and now that the family doc. put me on YAZ birth control pill I am even more scared - mainly of more weight gain, it would be a tragedy for me, I am fat enough already and what's worse I can't lose the weight, exercise doesn't help, diet doesn't help, NOTHING. Will YAZ birth control pill worsen my already tragic condition? I just don't know what to do and what to believe ... I appreciate any advice or help you can give me ... Thank You to all!

I must add my recent experience with Prednisone to this forum:
I have been suffering from constant lower back pain and a torn shoulder injury (rotator cuff) for the last several years. A week ago I got a slight case of Poison Ivy. My doctor gave me Prednisone - starting at 60 mgs. a day, tapering down to 10 over 12 days. I was unsure as to whether I wanted to be on a steroid , especially after reading some of the testimonies here at this forum. But I went ahead and took it. I must say this has been one of the most amazing experiences for me.
Not only did my Poison Ivy immediately begin to go away, but lo and behold, practically ALL my back pain and shoulder pain went away. I also found myself with this amazing positive mental attitude. I began to get up and enjoy my job everyday (normally I am somewhat depressed and stressed out). It was such a major change for the better - I feel like I have been living the resurrection!! Yet I know it is only due to absence of pain and increased energy brought on by the Prednisone. I feel like a happier, younger version of myself. Prednisone has even helped me sleep better! So, evidently, for some people, prednisone is a wonder-drug.
I did note a very slight manic edge at times, but never unmanageable and always very positive. As soon as I decrease the dose, the pain and inflammation in my back and shoulder starts to return. What a shame that this drug causes osteoporosis and other long-term affects. I wish I could stay on it forever!!

I was a healthy 59 year old woman until my doctor prescribed Levaquin for a minor eye pain. I was taking 500 mg. a day for 6 days and on the seventh day I broke out with thousands of hives all over my entire body.I also had severe chest pains and a terrible pain in my back and jaw. I thought I was having a heart attack. The doctor examined me and took an EKG. I had a normal EKG it was not a heart atatck. My physican precribed benadryl and sent me home. A few days later I started with a terrible burning in my esophagus and stomach , and the terrible hives continued. I went back to my doctor and he precribed Zyrtec. The Zyrtec helps the hives to "sleep". I find that 22hours into the 24 hour pill I start to see all of the hives popping out and itching. The doctor gave me a fat free .diet and sent me on my way. Two days later back to see my physican. I told him I was still in severe pain. My stomach and esophagus were on fire and that I was having terrible pain in my diaphram when bending over. I insisted that he refer me to a gastointerstional doctor as an emergency or I was going to the Emergency Room now. He sent me to a Gastro Doctor and upon examining me he said I had GERD. He also precribed a Fat Free Diet, and gave me a pill called Zegrid. This did not help at all. I than made an appointment for an Endoscopy. The findings are acute inflamation in the stomach and inflamation in the esophagus. I also have a hiatal hernia. The doctor told me to double up on the Zegrid.. The Biopsy will be back in two weeks. My pain continued so I called the gastro docor and he gave me Carafate. I continue to have the burning, the hives, pain in my diaphram and back, and now a feeling that I have something stuck in my throat. I never had any of these issues prior to taking Levaquin. I am going back to the doctor today as I have added naseua to the list of my complaints. I eat very lightly and drink very little as when I drink I sometimes get terrible pain in my diaphram. I have been to my primary physican 8 times, gastro 2 times, I have had about $500. in prescriptions, EKG's , Sonograms, Endoscopys, and Biopsys. I am starting to wonder if the medical profession set me up. Levaquin is poison to some people. Why did my doctor give me this medication for an eye ache.? It may be too late for me to debate the use of this medication that I took blindly, but maybe someone out there will read my story and think before they blindly take a medication that may change there life forever. Does any one out there have any of the same issues from Levaquin? Thanks for reading my story. Cheri

My son is 15 years old and on July 25, 2007 his doctor gave him Lisinopril for his high blood pressure. He had the cough for about three days and it went away. No other problems until 8/10/07 when the temperature came up. I called a health line nurse and the pharmacy to see if this could be a side effect of the med because he had no other symptoms and was told probably not. Later that evening it went to 103 and I called back and talked to someone different and she said it could be. I was wondering if there were other parents out there that their children have been put on his med. I am very worried about him taking this and I am going to take him off of it and call the Doctor tomorrow to get a different med to lower the blood pressure.

I have been taking Yasmin for over a year and it has really helped me. It has reduced my mood swings, shortened my periods and I generally feel a lot better. However, recently my doctor gave me a sample pack of Yaz until I could get my Yasmin filled by mail. Yikes! I have had cramping, I'm tired and I had at least two episodes of severe night sweats. I also noticed a light sprinkling of acne on my chin and jawline. I don't get acne! I have very normal skin. I'm really glad to be going back to Yasmin and I hope to continue taking it for years to come.

My son was on Singulair for just about a week and he was complaining about pain in his legs and knees and had some mood changes. He doesn't normally complain so we took this seriously, and after researching sites like this one, we were surprised the doctor gave him Singulair with no hesitation. I would never give it to my son again and I'm so glad we took him off it after only a few days.

For a severe cold, our doctor gave my husband 3 free samples of Levaquin at 750mg to take for 3 days. A few hours after taking one capsule, he started to experienced: shivers, numbness, nausea, arrhythmia, nervousness, didn't want to be alone and had a sort of panic attack and later insomnia... and he's not the kind of guy who experience these kind of reactions ever. I was really concern.
My husband said he didn't know what was happening to him, that he felt strange and wasn't quite himself physically, he had nausea, numbness, arrhythmia and nervousness the second day too. At first, I thought it might the cold which could of got worse, but it seemed so bizarre. So after being with the same symptoms. we both knew something had to be wrong and the only thing different was he was taking Levaquin. He stopped taking it and began to sleep and slowly began to feel better. I think LEVAQUIN should be taken off the market. The side effects are horrible!

In July of '06 I received a Kenalog shot in my buttocks because of asthma problems. I never knew why my skin was sinking in, at the same place where I received the shot. Now, nine months later, I can almost sink my fist in my butt because the dent keeps getting larger. I just learned a few days ago that it was because of the Kenalog shot. Is the dent going to keep getting larger or is there some way that I can stop it. Somebody please help me.!!!!

I had the usual side effects: nausea, diarrhea, bad taste, etc. I wasn't able to finish the 10 day course (only 7 1/2). My biggest complaint is the bad taste and the furry yellow tongue. My doctor gave me an anti-fungal but it hasn't gone away. It has been 2 weeks since my last dose and my tongue is still yellow and furry! I am disgusted and embarrassed.

I am a healthy 33 year old female with PMDD. I was recommended to switch to YAZ from my other birth control because I didn't want to take antidepressants. Within 24 hours of taking my first pill, I had every symptom of a heart attack and severe dizziness. I landed in the cardiac unit for five days and had every test including heart cath. The doctor gave me a clean bill of health on my heart, but, told me to immediately stop the YAZ. I had contacted Bayer, they told me that it takes awhile to get into your system and to follow through with the pack. (the doctor said it is only the contraceptive part that takes that long in the system) the medicine is absorbed immediately. If I had kept taking YAZ, I don't know where I would be right now.
