I am 22 and this is the first experience I have had with birth control. I have been taking Loestrin 24 Fe for 2 months now. (on the iron pills now) I love the fact that my period is no much shorter and lighter. I went from having a heavy period for 6-8 days to a really light one for 2-3 days. I have not gained any weight that I know of; I do not keep a scale in my apartment. My boobs have gotten a little bigger but nothing drastic and they are sometimes sore but nothing horrible. I have not gotten any leg cramps like others have described. As I was not sexually active before taking the pill, I don't really know how it has affected my sex life. As a nursing student I know all about the negative side effects of birth control and can say I haven't experienced any of them. The only negative thing going on, which I do not know if it's attributed to the pill, is that I am in a funk in terms of my mood. Not sure if it has to do with school being almost over and having major life changing decisions ahead of me or what. I wouldn't say I am depressed by any means, just in a funk. My boyfriend has noticed too. Aside from the mood, (which again I don't know if it has to do with the pill or not... I will ask my doc when I go back next month) I have had no problems with this pill and would recommend it for the short, light periods. I haven't even had any breakthrough bleeding. A downfall could be the price. My college has it at their pharmacy for $16 and I know that there is a card you can get for 12 months of $24 but I asked the cash price at a local pharmacy as my insurance would not cover it and they said about $70. Please remember that it takes a few months for each woman to get adjusted to new levels of hormones in her body. Not everyone will react the same to the same pill. Try to not get hung up on the people who have taken the pill for 3 days and have horrible side effects. It takes time.

Anyone else having a mood issue like I am? Thanks for the replies!

Hey, I was on this pill for 3 years and over the last year and a half I have had chest problems, developing into heart palpitations over the last couple of months, I had to have a heart monitor on for a week and had the results today, my heart is perfectly healthy it was in fact the YASMIN tablets!!
So today my doctor has changed my pill and said I should notice a difference in the next month or so.
Not only was I having chest problems and heart palpitations, I have been told I was so snappy and grumpy, I was tired most of the time, always felt weepy and generally down in the dumps.
My advice, try this tablet as it may be different for you but a lot of people on here have had similar symptoms.
GOODBYE YASMIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first few times taking this drug I had extreme nausea even though I had tolerated most previous antibiotics and pills pretty well up to this point.
I thought it was a little odd, but that it would pass.

The nausea finally did pass, but for the past two weeks I have been taking it I've been doing almost nothing but sleeping, and having extreme spells of tiredness.

Gradually every day has just gotten worse and worse than the next while on these pills. I don't want to get out of bed and lately have looked at the clock to see that I've been in bed for twelve hours at a time.

Now, I'm also in very advanced college courses. I initially attributed my sudden inaccuracy and inability to focus on the fact that I was just nervous about the courses, the material, but each day my concentration got worse, and worse and worse. It feels like I have ADD or something, which I've never had.
I felt like I was going insane when I could not even get through a page of material without wanting to jump up and shake myself around (also because of the numbness I got in my legs and arms). Not like me at all.

I have been dizzy, weak, incredibly tired and cold all the time, and entirely unable to focus all since I've started taken these pills. Unlike many of the other people's symtoms posted here, I've experienced severe chills and cold/ numbness in my whole body rather than heat? Except when I go in the sun, which then feels like I'm burning up.

Today was the last straw when I couldn't even get up out of bed, drive normally I was so dizzy, could not normally read one page of material, and the sun felt like it was burning my eyes out.

And reading some of the even worse symptoms others have had, this drug is not worth all the pain and possible permanent damage just to kill a few of these pimples.

I am so glad that I looked at this site I was prescribed Biaxin XL for Bronchitis and only took it two days when I started experiencing stomache cramps, restlessness, and profuse sweating. I too had no interest in food and got really down in the dumps attitude wise. I have never had any reaction to any medication and so when I called my doctor after seeing this online he said that it was highly unlikley that it was the Biaxin causing this side effect and that he assumed my Bronchitis was just getting worse-I DO NOT THINK SO!!! I am now on a Z-Pack and am feeling much better but will now write this med down in all my medical documents that I am highly allergic to it since my own doctor didn't beleive that I could have those side effects. Thanks to everyone who posted.

I started taking it the first month of my marriage (oct) and it drained my sex drive away within a month. I felt depressed. moody, super irritable and pissy. I picked fights and avoided sex. It was a really bad way to start the marriage. But I figured it was yasmin and now that i found this site, I know it's true. I went off 2 days ago and I got a little breakout (probably hormonal) and I want to have sex again. My husband is adorable (always was) and I don't feel down in the dumps. I seriously felt like I would never be happy and that I would never want to have sex again. That was so unmotivating for me to try to do anything positive. Other side effects: hair loss, slight weight gain, tender breasts - to the point that no one can touch them in my second and third weeks of the pill, and oh what else?...when I would get woken up in the night I was the widest awake I' ever been, could not go back to sleep for the life of me for hours and hours. Anyways, thanks for sharing your experiences and I'm feeling better already. I wonder how the mice feel that have to test this stuff before us.

I have been taking Desogen for about three months. Since then I've been so depressed, snapping at my husband, and children over the least little things. I've never had this problem before Desogen. It has definitely made me feel so down in the dumps, major depression. I quit taking them a week ago, and I already feel better, I don't feel depressed. It is the best I've felt in a long time. I can see that it was the Desogen that was making me feel down.
