Hello
I am 57 years old and my BP has been trying to rise for the last 2 or 3 years. Without meds it is about 145/93. I started taking lisinopril 20mg, and it helped but didn't remedy the problem. My doctor added doxazosin mesylate 4mg and raised my lisinopril to 40mg. It was better but he also added hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg. My pressure is down to 118/68 most of the time now., but my hair has really started to fall out in the last month or so. It was thinning due to age anyway, but this has really kicked it into high gear. I jog and try to eat low fat diet, otherwise healthy. Any suggestions as to what the culprit is? and what to do about it?
Thanks

My experience with Lisinopril is similar to many others here. Mine is further complicated by the combination of drugs I am taking.
Due to my BPH I was taking Proscar and Doxazosin (4mg), the Doxazosin helping with hypertension as well (140/90). My doctor decided to add 5mg of Lisinopril to augment and help lower the blood pressure some more. He also liked the overall helpful aspects of the Lisinopril on the cardiological system. After about a week and a half on this regimine I was having dizzy spells and light headedness.....disconcerting when driving. I also had the infamous dry hacking cough noted my almost everyone. I stopped taking the Lisinopril and things went back to normal.
On my next visit to the doctor, he wanted me back on the Lisinopril but trying 2.5mg doses. That seemed to be OK for awhile. I have now added Flomax to my regimine and noticed the same dizziness problem. So I am staggering my pill taking which seems to be helping somewhat.
However, after three weeks on this program, I am having severe dry hacking cough episodes, 5-10 times per day. Also have to be careful when I stand up due to dizziness. Additionally, I am having sporadic insomnia problems that are out of the ordinary for me. Also, runny nose, sneezing and a tightening feeling in the chest and abdomen.....Almost like a mild flu. The tightening feeling is more like a caffeine overdose high...ergo the insomnia.
I attribute the hacking cough to the Lisinopril. The insomnia could be the same or possibly the Flomax. I'm not sure about the tightness. I plan to stop the Flomax next week when I go back to the Urologist and will stop the Lisopril at the same time and see what happens.
I would be interested in any input readers may have on my dilemma.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me regarding my blood pressure. Originally, it was 220/140 and I am currently on the following per day:
25 mg Spironolact
1 mg Doxazosin
20 mg Lisinopril
10 mg Norvasc
25 mg Paxil
My blood pressure is now 162/114. I feel tired and have no energy. I have constant headaches and I am dizzy. I am a 40 year old female. Shouldn't all this medicine make me feel better and bring the pressure down lower than it has?

I have been on Lipotor for several years. I am almost 60 years of age, It is easy at my age to put "changes" in your physical being down to "old" age. Could some or all of these changes be symptons of Lipitor damage?
Gradually I seem to be losing the ability to walk. My legs feel as if they are encased in cement. Getting up from bed or a chair, I stumble around until my muscles seem to get moving. Sometimes I seem to get vibrating spasms in my legs.
My whole body has become stiff. I walk from side to side with my arms bent like a wooden soldier. I have lost my elasticity of movement. My wife looking at me walking has wondered what is wrong with me.
Stepping up onto a step ladder one step at a time, I feel like my legs are too weak to handle my body weight. I thought it was due to my increased weight. I had not considered that it was a breakdown of muscle caused by Lipitor. I continue to go to the gym and do not think that my eating habits have changed but I seem to be putting on more weight.
I had a bit of arthritis in my knees before Lipitor but it did not stop me from running for miles. Now I find if I walk on the treadmill for a mile or two that I am stiff and sore all day. I live with joint pain, muscle ache and a weakness in my legs that makes getting up a real struggle. I put this down to having put on weight but maybe I am putting on weight because of Lipitor and that is causing the problem.
I now seem to have a perpetual nasal infection which I have been putting down to the smog. My skin is so dry, at times, it hurts but I was putting it down to the dryness of central heating in winter. I too have floaters in my eyes but have been told they are common at my age whether I was on Lipitor or not. Sometimes my vision is so blurry I have geat difficulty reading.
I am also taking Cozaar, Allopurinol and Gen-Doxazosin.
I am looking at this web site because I am worried. I will now see my doctor.

I am 36 years old with three psa readings in the last 6 months of 7.9, 2.3 and the last one this week after four weeks of Cipro, 3.5.
Dr. wants to start proscar. Before I consider it, I want to know other men's side effects and feelings about this drug.

I'm a 59-year old male who hadn't suffered from insomnia for 20 years...until switching to Flomax from Doxazosin (4mg am & pm). Thank goodness for this blog/bulletin board because now I know probable cause of dreadful insomnia that's afflicted me for past 3 weeks. It's back to Doxazosin tomorrow for me!
