I do not know who you people are, but I feel like I have stumbled onto some help. Please tell me this is not a joke....I am on Doxycline for three days now to treat a sub-clinical suspected infection. I started to feel noticeably flat yesterday, (day two) almost like I was missing a range of emotion. I feel as if someone drugged me wtih some kind of downer. I woke up feeling ok this AM, but have felt worse and worse as the day has gone on. I am in good shape, I am generally an upbeat person, but I feel so profoundly sad, listless, confused, and tired. It as if I am living in a fog, and that every thing requires serious effort. The good news is that I am only on this medication for ten days, I cannot imagine having to take it for longer. Had a little heartburn last evening, but nothing serious. Good luck to all,

I was prescribed doxycycline for an infection in my testicles. After 5 days of taking 2 pills a day, the pain was diminishing and I was feeling better. However, I never took the pills with food, always took on an empty stomach. Everything was OK for those first 5 days. It was the 10th pill I took that I felt bad pain in my stomach and lower esophagus, a burning pain just below my rib cage. I could not hardly eat as the pain was so bad as food reached the end of my esophagus. I have stopped taking the pill and 4 days later each time I eat food as it passes through my esophagus and enters my stomach, I still experience bad pain. Its funny because there is no pain until food has traveled a good ways down.. It feels like doxycline has burned that connection of the esophagus with the stomach. I

On the second dose of the Doxycline 100 mg po BID x7 days presription, I felt nauseous and vomited. I now have a headache, feel somewhat nauseous, have and "ache" in my abdomen, feel slightly dizzy/fuzzy and have a dull headache. The medicine was prescribed as a prophylactic antibiotic in preparation for a gynecological/preobstretrical procedure called a hysterosalpingogram.
I have no plans to continue w/this medicine as I am intolerant of these side effects. It feels like putting poison into my body.
Hope to feel "normal"/well soon,
Eliza

I've been taking Doxycycline for three days now, and my lips are numb, my eyes are twitching, and my hands are tingling. Also my heart feels like it's racing or fluttering.
The worst bit is that I've been given it for a pelvic infection caused by dislodged Mirena device, and I've had dreadful abdominal pain since the device was removed, but don't know if that's due to the damage done by the device, or the Doxycline, which is definitely causing gastric problems.

A general note for those who are having strong side effects: I've been taking doxycycline at a pretty high dose for months now for chronic Lyme disease. I have experienced many of the symptoms that others have listed here, but I have to say that I also experienced those symptoms directly from the Lyme. The thing is, if you have Lyme and take doxycycline, you get these symptoms strongly at first because it kills a bunch of Lyme bacteria, and the toxins in this bacteria flood your system and cause increased symptoms at first. Then, the symptoms fade (which they've done in my case). So, if you take doxycline and react with an increase in skin rashes, or joint pains, or anxiety attacks, or weakness, or extreme fatigue, or brain fog / spaciness, you might want to look into the possibility that you have Lyme disease. (Not so much the stomach symptoms -- those are common with any antibiotic, because they kill your good gut bacteria.) Anyway, it's something to consider.

Hello again,
Update:
Went to my doctor's office and fired him. I was there thursday and told him about my ears and my nose and my burning tongue. He shoved a tongue depressor in my mouth, causing me massive distress, brought tears to my eyes. Said, Um hm, listened to my lungs, prescribed Zyrtec (allergy Medication) and sent me on my merry way!
NOT ONCE did he look in my ears or nose. Dumba...!
So friday I went back and fired him officially and professionally, in front of his staff and other patients. Changed to another primary care physician in the center (this one actually diagnosed my pneumonia 3 weeks ago) and went through urgent care.
After Spending most of Friday early am on the puter, I discovered that what I was suffering from in my mouth was a fungal infection caused by all the antibiotics I was taking and it is called Thrush. I confirmed this by looking at my tongue in a mirror and seeing white patches on the left side of my tongue. I tried a home remedy: DO NOT DO THIS!!!!! it said at web md I believe, I am not sure, to do 1part hydrogen peroxiide and 3 parts water, gargle and swish in mouth.
At first, the first 10 seconds, no reaciton...then HOLY CRAP!
My mouth foamed up like I had the rabies! and the PAIN!!!
OMG in Heaven. after rinsing with plain water I looked at my poor tongue through tears and saw the spots enlarge by the peroxide. Now, if I could see the spots before the peroxide and after, how come Doctor Dipsh> didnt see em with a magnifier and bright light?
The walk in doctor confirmed my own diagnosis of Thrush. Prescribed Nystatin liquid which I have to use 4-5 times a day (20-25 bucks at Winn Dixie Pharmacy prescription only)
Difulcan to combat a vaginal yeast infection
Doxycline for the sinus and Ear infections. (yes, another antibiotic!)
She said that the zithromax was having no effect whatsover on the ear infection or sinus'.
If you want to discuss any situation concerning this topic, please contact me at tellirma@hotmail.com. I am a writer for a newspaper and I am putting together a series on this. It is such BS. We must stick together and help ourselves and our dumba.. doctors....if we dont who will?
Sincerely,
Irma Fruci

Hi,
Something I have noticed with these drugs is that different Brand/Manufacturers have different effects on people.
For Doxycycline and Amoxicillin Antibiotics, I tried The Kent Pharmaceuticals version and other Brand/Manufacturers version.
In both Instances for Doxycycline and Amoxicillin when I tried the other brands (not kent version) I had severe side effects. When I tried the Kent Pharmaceuticals brand, I didn't notice any side effects.
So I would recommend the Kent Pharmaceuticals Brand antibiotics.
regards,
