In June 07 I rushed into having the coil fitted, having had a double rollover with two beautiful babies successively, only 13 months apart. No 2 baby had his first birthday end-Mar 08 and as I was no longer breastfeeding I suppose I began to stop making "new baby" excuses for my moods, brain fog, lower back pain, extreme fatigue, irritability if not getting a nap in the day even though had good 8 hrs sleep on night and weight gain (dress size).
Over the last few months I have gone on to experience severe PMS symptoms (which I didn't have prior to coil), clearly a build up within the body for not being able to bleed regularly. These included crying spells (for no reason), feeling very flat/exhausted almost like "out of body" old woman (I'm 33) and feeling bloated/pregnant - they would last roughly two weeks and then I would get a day's bleed which explained the cause. I even took a pregnancy test although it was negative. For me the final straw has been the onset of migraines (a year on) lasting several days and just being constant.
Having two energetic toddlers and little family support, I simply didn't have the luxury of continuing with these symptoms and could no longer tolerate the thing inside me. Luckily, my hubbie agreed and so had coil removed on Friday (total of 14 months) . Already, 2 days on, the bloating and brain fog have eased off. The migraines are still present but am assuming it will take a while for body to sort itself out. I'm so looking forward to feeling like "me" again with and getting fruity with the hubbie.
Additionally, have had nose bleeds over last few months and a yeast infection - not sure if these are linked in!

OMG! I thought I was losing it. Have had the Mirena since April and have gained weight (an entire dress size) for NO REASON, been foggy, moody, no sex drive, joint pains, cramps, etc.I thought I was alone, Did I mention EXHAUSTED all the time and acne on my face and back-sever enough to get antibiotics from the dermatologist?
I also suffer with PCOS--does anyoen else on the Mirena suffer with PCOS? Would be interested to see how it has affected you. Tried BC pills and after awhile they stopped working then switched to the YAZ--DO NOT GO THERE--the worst Pill ever--so not many options for those of us with PCOS. Just can't wait to go to the DR and get this thing out.

Since having the mirena, I have lost my sense of humor, my sex drive, I get into hideous rages, I feel like I have something crawling under my skin when I have PMT. The PMT hardly ever goes away and as a result my breasts are twice the size they usually are, I have got stretch marks, they seem to swell for three weeks out of four and then I have a small period, when I finish bleeding my breasts swell again as if getting ready for another period. I suffer from headaches, tearfulness, slow witidness (used to laugh a lot). My boyfriend and I used to enjoy a good sex life, now I can't stand him touching me, so if I don't get the mirena out, I will be back on the shelf again, but I don't want a baby, can't take the pill that has an awful affect and the other copper coil made me bleed for two weeks at a time. What is a gal to do? Think I'll pull it out myself I feel that furious with having this alien inside of me. Plus I go running lots and do circuits at the gymn and am up a dress size since the mirena doh! Am sick!

I started on it in June 2007, by December, I had gained 20 lbs, was out of breath most days and was weak all over. Had general sore muscles and felt out of strength. Been off now 5 days, strength is returning and am feeling much better. No weight loss yet but at least I feel much better. Sleeping was not affected one way or the other.

wow this is interesting reading, I had the Mirena coil put in 3 years ago. It was agony while it was put in and I had severe cramps for about a week. Then I had terrible acne for about 6 months, now it comes and goes and isn't too bad. Since having the mirena coil in I have gained some weight, gone up a dress size.
My periods stopped completely.
The past few months I've been thinking about getting it removed.I've had terrible Irritable Bowel Syndrome for the past year with bloating and cramps. Also insomnia, weepyness, irritability, I feel so tired some days but just can't sleep at night, I feel stressed out and depressed.
Also I've been getting a lot of headaches and migraines which I thought were just because I'm so tired. Now I'm thinking maybe its because of the coil, but I'm not sure because it wasn't like this at the beginning

before starting on BC... i had severe pains, long periods ( 6 days) and really bad bloating (would go up a dress size)...
so far Yaz has been good, no pains, light periods. period usually starts on the 4th placebo pill. the only problem as soon as i start taking placebo pills i get red bumps that sort of look like pimples on my face... and they last me until i am done my period.
