I have been on Advair 100/50 for 3 years. I have dry mouth, dry eyes, dizziness, and night tremors. But all of this I can deal with since I can breath much better on the medication compared to off. I have COPD. I have not had any hair loss but did start gaining weight almost immediately after starting Advair. If I miss a dose, I know it within an hour or so. I wish it wasn't so expensive.

I have been on this pill for 8 months, so I can speak out and tell you how it has been. I am a firm believer you give the pill time to get in your system, now I want it out my system as quickly as possible. I already placed a call to my doctor this morning after everything I have read. I am loosing my hair at an extreme rate, even my little girls have noticed my hair seems to be everywhere in the house not to mention I can't clip my hair up without it falling down 2 minutes later with the same clips I have used for years. Moody as all get out.. emotional at times that I have no explanation for. ACNE is BEYOND anything I have ever experienced. They are huge red and seem to be either on my cheeks or along my jaw line. I even switched to Clinique Acne Solutions and that stuff has a guarantee it will work or your money back. Well I am not going to ask for my money back knowing its this darn horrible pill I am on. I will go back to Ortho Trycyclen and have my periods a few extra days and heavier to gain my sanity, hair and tame my temper/moodiness and clear my face back up. I also have experienced dry eyes, major fatigue all I want to do is take a nap when I get home and I ache what seems like all the time.

52 years never had a problem sleeping, began lisinopril for blood pressure which was very high. Began five weeks ago.

Thank you for this website and for all your contributions. It has certainly informed me about what is causing these recent problems.
Side effects so far:

Insomnia
Excessive stomach gas
Hideous Smelly gas
Bloat
Diarrhea
Indigestion / acid reflux
Irritating cough
Vomiting twice so far.
Dry throat and mouth
Dry eyes

typo's on keyboard becoming an irritation, can't believe so many mistakes since medication was increased to 10 mil.

Required: Huge saucepan / stockpot, Hawthorn berries and leaves, plastic screw top fizzy drinks bottles clean.
Taking Hawthorn syrup

Which is made from berries collected locally leaves and berry's, "carrier bag full" washed and boiled for 20 minutes, allowed to cool, strained water / juice and then more water added repeating and boiling for 10 minutes more again allowing to cool and strained and press out all liquid using small plate pressed into the strainer. Combine both lots of liquid in saucepan and Re-boil adding preserving / jam sugar to taste, allow to cool and fill clean plastic bottles 3/4 full and compress bottle until all the air is gone. screw on cap and store in freezer over the winter so you can make lots. The flowers and leaves can be harvested the following year to make lighter syrup. I drink about half a cup 3 times a day.

Tastes very nice too.

Blood pressure is now normal most of the time so going to ditch the lisinopril and report findings back to doctor who happens to be a good friend of the family.

Also taking chelated potassium, cod liver oil and fish oil, calcium, garlic pearls and making own bread using Black Salt instead of sodium chloride. Use Black salt on everything now.

Check out my research on “Inclined Therapy” or google “Andrew K Fetcher” this may help your BP also.

I'm no stranger to BCPs but Loestrin 24 has me quasi-suicidal. Yes, I've actually had thoughts of jumping out the window - I would never do it, but it scared the bejeebus out of me to actually have those thoughts.
I have two young kids and just went back on BCP's after finishing breast feeding my youngest. I have extremely heavy and awful periods so I was looking for a way to manage that. In the past I'd had only good experiences w/ BCPs so I didn't think twice about going back on them.
It's been three months since I started Loestrin and I've suffered from extreme fatigue, crazy mood swings, mental fogginess, forgetfulness, spotting (the least of my concerns), double vision, dry eyes, nausea, insomnia, no sex-drive, menstrual migraines that last up to 72 hours and lots of other fun stuff. Someone below mentioned they thought they had a brain tumor and I chuckled because I was pretty sure I had one too!
I forgot one measly pill this month and boy, did I pay for it.
Loestrin leaves me barely capable to take care of my children because of my fatigue and mental fogginess (it's the only way I can describe what my brain feels like on this drug) PLUS they have to deal w/ a very curt, impatient, unhappy and mean mommy - something I'm normally most definitely not!
When merging on the highway I ALWAYS do shoulder checks to make sure no one is in the way, but the other day I almost got in a wreck because even though I checked, I didn't see a car coming up behind me! I know this was because of my vision changes thanks to Loestrin.
I called my ob today for a new script. She gave me some generic. I hope to Zeus it's better than this stuff.
I think I'm more annoyed because I was never sensitive to meds before. I don't know if it's age (36), having had kids or what, but my body definitely doesn't handle the same as it used to. : (

I'm 27 years old and have been married for four months. I've been on the nuvaring for about 2 years straight (i've been on bc for a total of 9 years more on than off). The first year was great despite the weight gain and constant bloating. My partner and I agreed that the pros outweighed the cons. But for the past 4-6 months or so I've been experiencing the following symptoms, all gradual but definitely in effect:

vaginal dryness, itching, yeasty discharge, migraines on the OFF week, nasal dryness, dry eyes/ intolerance to contact lenses, irritability, mood swings, weight gain, brittle hair, short-term memory loss, severe anxiety.

it seems to me that the cons outweigh the one pro that we were defending. pregnancy. i am definitely speaking with my doctor and getting more information on hormone-FREE pregnancy protection.

I just turned "51"

I've been on Yasmin for the past 5 years.

I never have been on a birth control pill in the past as when I was a young teen I tried and couldn't handle the first side effects.

I have had a lifetime of the most HEAVY periods. I have to stayed glued to the toilet on my first two days.

I was diagnosed 20 years ago with ITP where blood platelets deplete. I thought my periods were so heavy because of this. I just couldn't take it anymore so my DR put me on Yasmin.

Yes at first my boobs were big and sore. But after 3 months I thought I had died and gone to heaven with a better life. Period so light.

BUT:
I've gained 40 lbs over this time frame. I look pregnant with the tummy Bloating. I've just had the most thorough physical, ultra sound for fibroids and everything came back normal except which never had previous: Borderline high Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure.

So, I've been power walking and never eat anything bad. ???? so why can't I loose even a pound?

Back in November I went off Yasmin for a month and had a period that hemorrhaged! So I went back on Yasmin. But I'm bloated now more than ever. I know it is the hormone changes.

I'm hooked on Motrin for my headaches which is like a sinus ache in my hear.... weird headache.

BUT: Hmmmmm I've had arthritic symptoms in my joints just over the past 4 years, severe Dry Eyes in the morning. All I googled is Bloated all the time and got Yasmin.

I'm in between pills and seriously think I need to just put up the the bad bleeding and get off the Yasmin. It is like quitting coffee, the headache is because of stopping the pill. I took one pill today even tho I have my period right now. My head is clearing up and I am feeling better.

I Don't think it is just Yasmin I REALLY BELIEVE WE ALL HAVE THESE SYMPTOMS WHEN THE HORMONES ARE IMBALANCED.

I Loved Yasmin for giving me back a life. But I'm so BLOATED right now I've got to try going off.

I do not take any other drug. I did a Candida cleanse but it didn't elevate the Bloating.

I will keep you all posted........

I started the depo shot in June 05. Had it for 6 months, blead the hole time and gained 35 lbs. So in Dec 05 we took it out, decided to try for a baby - which we didn't conceive till jan 06. after the baby was born in oct 07 I had the mirena put in. I have been feeling fine until the past maybe 8 months and it just keeps getting worse. I am so tired all the time that I just don't want to do anything and it is really difficult for me to even take care of the house and kids. My acne is awful. I have the worse headaches ever. I've recently developed more symptoms. - feeling nausea, really bad dry eyes, stomach spasms. I do have a light period every month but i actually look like i;m 4 or 5 months preg.

I have only been taking this drug for about 3 weeks and I could not explain at first but just knew things were off. I can not sleep, have terrible nightmares all night long, wake up at 4 if I do sleep. I am 53 and have long hair and my head itches all the time. I now fear hair loss as I have read in other complaints. My eyes are dry, I just feel off, majorly ! My back and legs ache all the time, especially when I first get up in the morning I can seriously barely move or bend down. I feel like I am 83 instead of 53. I have had no headaches but have had weight gain already, especially in my midsection. I feel off mentally all the time, not able to concentrate at all. I am calling my doctor on Monday and they have to give me something else. Has anyone else had these symptoms and what else can you take or do?

I'm 46 and have been taking Advair for 7 years and I'm amazed at all of the side effects I've noticed of Advair that I've never had before. Asthma aside, I've always been healthy, moderately active and eat healthy yet noticed over the last couple of years I constantly feel like a puff ball from water retention and bloating - it's awful. My eyesight is worse, blurry and dry eyes. Constant muscle and joint pain, occasional dizziness and lightheadness, mood swings, just about everything . I've also noticed a decrease in libido and an increase in blood pressure. Does anyone have experience with a better replacement for it that I can discuss with my physician that does not cause any additional side effects from switching from Advair to a different long-term inhaler?

I took Alesse 3 years ago with no problems, Aviane is horrible. I've been on it for a week, thought I'd tough it out. Forget it. Anxiety, increased heart rate, irritability, depression, negativity, intense nausea and heartburn, weight gain, increased hunger, insomnia, bloating, dry eyes...you name it. The only issue is that I can't find brand-name Alesse anymore, pharmacies say it hasn't been produced since 2007, is this true? Anyone know if or where it's available? Some of you are writing in 2008 and seem to be taking Alesse, any help is appreciated!

Hi Everyone, I took my Mirena out myself 3 days ago. I have made a couple comments on this site about it, but now I have my own questions. When I first took it out I was thrilled for it just to be gone. I still am, only I feel lousy. My head hurts, and I'm cramping, which is probably because I started bleeding yesterday... first period since insertion (unless you count the month of bleeding that followed that). Anyway, my head is killing me, I'm exhausted and today I woke up and all I want to do is cry! Maybe it's just what they call the "hormone crash" or maybe it's my period. I'm also experiencing stomach aches and lightheadedness. I don't feel like myself! I am so tired and my back is still killing me. How long does THAT take to go away?? When am I supposed to feel like myself again?? If anyone out there has answers, I'd appreciate hearing them!

I had Mirena for 1 year. Suffered from lack of libido, weight gain, bloating, depression, moodiness, extreme tiredness, anxiety, lowered immune system (seem to get every virus doing the rounds and take forever to get well), sugar cravings & occasional abdominal cramping like ovulation pain.

2 weeks after Mirena removal: mild breakthrough bleed, dry eyes, feel less bloated, loss of 2lbs but SEVERE ACNE on my chin which I didn't have before! Most people get acne while the Mirena is in, did anyone else get it after it was removed?????

somebody help! the first year on yaz was great but then started the HORRIBLE panic attacks. they never ended. i was in bed for 3 months straight literally only went to the bathroom and lost like 25 pounds. im 5 10 and weigh 107. i had severe depression, my hair was falling out, diagnosed with panic disorder, and POTS. my blood pressure would drop to 50/20 every time i stood up. all this NEVER happened before. my eyes are so dry i cant wear contacts. i have derealization/depersonalization. it soo scary. im only 20 and feel like a 60 year old. i am always tired. i can sleep at any given time. i have trouble staying awake on the road. i have been on 4 anti depressants and klonopin. i never had anxiety in my life before. i think i am going crazy everyday. i don't know what to do anymore. i finally stopped taking yaz 3 weeks ago and slightly better but still not even close to what i was a couple years ago. how could they put this pill on the market? this is absolutely horrible.

Hello,
I'm a 38 yr old female who was prescribed Topamax about 8 weeks ago for Migraine prevention.
So far, the drug is working fabulously for it's purpose.
Here are the pros and cons that I have experienced:

PROS: No migraines. Yippee!, A small amount of weight loss. This did not happen until just in the last week or so. My mood has stabilized.

CONS: Flat tasting soda, Dry skin, Dry eyes, dry mouth, (drink LOTS of water to combat this). Blurred vision, bouts of memory loss and slurred speech, loss for words. Some of these improve as your body adjusts. Worst for me is that if I miss a dose or don't take it at the same time every day (50mg in the morning, 50 at night), I'll have middle of the night anxiety attacks or even amnesia.. short-lived attacks, but very terrifying.. I always think someone is out to kill me. But again, for me, it's short lived and it only happens when I'm not taking the meds on a schedule.

Overall, I am happy with the drug. I am not experiencing hair loss or tingling. I drink a TON of water because I hear kidney stones are common with this medication.
I will endure all of the above to prevent the wretched migraine....

I hope this helps someone...

Take care and remember, God can help in your healing.. ask Him for it.. :)

God Bless..

Started taking xalatan 3 month ago. I have very poor sleep and was wondering if xalatan had something to do with it? Also dry eyes, more than before I started taking xalatan. Also my vision is more blurred than before. And my eyesight is diminished some. But I think one should ask the question: "Maybe my psycological situation is also effecting me". If you get glaucoma and start with eyedrops, it could also make you think: "I am really having a problem", and then you start to sleep bad i.e.

I've had all these same symptoms at one point during the two years I've been taking Advair. I've had exercise induced asthma since I was 18 but I can still work out at age 38 regularly with the help of Albuterol/Proventil. I stopped taking Advair after I completed my last disk in Sept, 08. It all makes sense now after the fact from reading here. Firstly, I cant tell you how severe the muscle cramps were. No words can describe upper body cramping in every muscle that I endured for weeks (it felt like knives all over)!!! The same happened with my legs...the muscles became so tight they contorted! My Dr. gave me an m.r.i. took x-rays and several blood tests...even gave me an h.i.v. test because he had no idea what would cause all these symptoms. He said it was "complicated". The test results found nothing. All lof my symptoms are gone now that I've stopped taking it (mouth sores, bleeding gums, strange skin lumps, hair loss, dry eyes, swollen tongue feeling, lump in throat feeling, severe cramping all over my body for 3 weeks). The Dr. noted that I had gained 10lbs since my last visit. I told him, "I've barely been able to MOVE with this cramping much less exercise with my regular weekly routine!" "It even hurts to breath deeply!" I still have a dry cough that hasn't gone away and normally I clear up after the seasonal rag weed season is over. We have had two hard frosts already...that usually clears my allergies.

I am a single mom of three kids. I had my little girl 3 yrs ago and on Nov.4th of this yr. I decided/was talked into getting the mirena inserted. It was absolutely horrible getting it in. It hurt so bad. I bled and had nasty stuff coming out of me for the first week then I just bled! it still feels uncomfortable in there and I too am waking up drenched in sweat! I didn't realize that I would continue to bleed for several months! Great birth control when you no longer want sex!!! Does it need to be removed by a nurse or can I pull it out myself? Some ppl have reported dry eyes but mine have been watering all the time and even have like a windburn/chapped feeling where the tears are. Its only been a couple weeks but its a terrible feeling!

On September 9th, 2008, I had the mirena inserted and it was horrible. My right ovary felt like it had exploded and a burst of burning pain radiated down my leg. I broke out into a sweat, felt dizzy, and nauseated. The doctor said they never had that reaction before and had me lay down until I felt better. The doctor wanted to do an ultrasound, right then, but the doctors that did the ultrasounds were not available, so she gave me a Motrin and told me to go to the emergency room if I had severe pain or bleeding. She sent me home. This THING is constantly on my mind since I had it put in. I hate it!! I am tired all the time, headaches, bloating, dry eyes, back pain, hair loss, constant feeling of being in a fog, cramps everyday, and the burning pain I experienced during insertion comes back more and more frequently. My ovary and leg hurt me so bad that I feel like I'm going to pass out. Two weeks after insertion I went in to have the strings trimmed and let the doctor know my symptoms-she looked puzzled and made me feel like I was crazy, but suggested that we have an ultrasound done, so she scheduled me an appointment for it-two weeks later. I had a follow up with the doctor one week after that and she said everything looked fine and to take ibuprofen for the pain. I went back three weeks later to have my strings trimmed-again. She was amazed that they seemed longer than they were the first time she trimmed them. She said that it was either "settling" lower, or it was falling out. She did an internal exam, but did not feel it, so she suggested that I at least give it another month before I consider taking it out. I agreed because I paid a lot of money for it and my options are limited. Since my last visit, I've been researching mirena a bit and was surprised to hear that so many women have been experiencing these side effects. I plan on having the mirena removed, but have been researching tubal ligation as my next step. Then I ran into something called tubal ligation syndrome, which has side effects that I am currently experiencing. I talked to my boyfriend about all of this last night and he has agreed to have a vasectomy. The bad thing about that is I have to wait for him to have it done and wait until his sperm count is at zero. That could take a month or more! The good thing is that I won't have to think or worry about getting pregnant anymore and I won't have some foreign piece of hormonal plastic in my body any longer. I will never recommend the mirena to anyone-ever!

I had Mirena put in about 5 weeks ago to control heavy periods. After about 2 weeks I started experiencing a foggy head feeling and bouts of dizziness. I didn't relate this to anything and thought it might be from lack of sleep. Last week I stated having spells of rapid heartbeat and nervousness that lasted anywhere from 10 minutes to 10 hours. Exercising is out of the question since it makes me now feel lightheaded. I feel like I can't think or concentrate. At first I didn't think the symptoms were related to Mirena, but since I am otherwise very healthy and don't take any other medications, I started doing a search online and came to this website. I called the doctor and told the nurse my symptoms and she called me back to say that they never heard of anything like that and I must have some other medical problem...They insisted it was not Mirena causing the symptoms. I mentioned that my symptoms are actually ones listed by the manufacturer as "possible" side effects. They disagreed with that. Now I'm thinking of going to another doctor to remove it, if they'll do it. Can anyone tell me if they had these symptoms and if they got "better" with time? Or do they just get "worse"..??? If I knew that they would improve I would hold on a little longer. Has anyone had improvement after the first few months?

The best thing was an IUD, but here they make such a big deal of it if you didn't have a baby yet....

1. Blood Pressure 180/120 resulting in an emergency room trip
2. Weight gain of 25 POUNDS! Most/all of which was water and came off within the first week of being off from Yasmin.
3. Bloating and extreme water retention. See # 2.
4. Severe leg muscle cramping and foot pain
5. A mental feeling of not caring and general fogginess
6. Complete loss of libido
7. Acid reflux (probably from the diuretic in Yasmin)
8. General weakness in my muscles (there were times that I could barely open a revolving door).

I was on Yasmin for a year. I have been off for one month. I am still on blood pressure meds, but they don't think the Yasmin is out of my system. Has anyone else gotten hypertension from Yasmin and if so, how long did you have to be on blood pressure meds?

Some of my symptoms are getting better after a month, and some are not. If anyone is reading this to decide whether or not to take Yasmin, please don't. You may not have any symptoms right away and you may think you feel great, but that is the scariest part. When symptoms come on gradually, you hardly notice them until you are in the hospital emergency room.

I was on Yasmin for about 4 years, then stopped due to no health insurance (couldn't afford it anymore). I was off Yasmin for 4 months, started it up again now that I have a new job, and man- I HATE being back on this pill. Now that my body had a break, I can tell what this pill does/did- I've taken about nine pills and have already called my doc to go right back in and get a Paraguard IUD, because now that I know what "normal" feels like there is no way I can go back to this pill! Extremely tired again/feel run down all the time (since day 2 back on), nauseous (continual), dry eyes/vagina (after 2-3 days back on), sex drive ebbing off again (after nine days back on)... also strange when I read people's posts, my knees/hip used to crack (pop) all the time and it's started up again within one week of this damn pill. A big clump of my hair fell out yesterday too!!! I can only tell you how I FEEL- there is something NOT right in my body with Yasmin back in the mix. I felt awesome for four months sans pill (sex drive came back with a vengeance, forgot how it felt to feel aroused, feel lubricated, feel energy, feel happy go lucky) then Yasmin- now this crap has got to go!!! I'm so turned off by this eye-opener (thankful though, at least now I know what I put myself through for four years). I'll go with an IUD to avoid hormones from now on. Trust yourselves ladies, if it doesn't feel right, it might be bad for you! Good luck ladies!!!!
