I was prescribed Bactrim for an ear infection. A few days after taking it my lymph nodes in my neck became terribly painful and swollen. On the 8th day of the meds I have developed a rash on my arms, chest and face. I returned to the doctor today. He said that the rash is just a heat rash, and that the lymph nodes are just infected and prescribed another antibiotic! I spoke to my mother and sister and they are both very allergic to Sulpher based antibiotics. It looks like I am too. Glad that I read the post. I will never take that med again. I am nervous to stop the med at day 11 when I was prescribed for 14 days but I can't take these side effects any longer.

I am 40 years old and recently went to my medical facility as I have had a "viral" ear infection for almost a year now, and it is concerning me. I do not take medication typically. My new primary care provider recommended I try Singulair. So far I have taken three doses over three nights. The first night was horrifying, the dreams I had were so scary, and they were tied into reality which was even stranger as the drug also makes you wake up often, then when you fall back asleep your awake time ties into your dreams. I woke up in a numb state. Since then, I also have been extremely agitated, dizzy, mouth sores, acne, fuzzy thinking, light headed and severe fatigue and body aches. Thank goodness I checked out this webpage, as I too will stop taking this drug. I find it very disappointing, how are we suppose to be able to trust our medical professionals to help us with one of our most prized possessions, our bodies, when we are given something to clear up an ear infection only to have it affect numerous other aspects of our lives to such a serious degree with no mention from our medical professionals. This is ridiculous. I guess I'll live with the viral ear infection.......

Headache or Migraine sufferers BEWARE! I was prescribed this medication for an upper respiratory and double ear infection. After a week of taking the medication I have been laid up with migraines and headaches that come and go for days. Every morning I am severely nauseous and have vomited four times. I really want to cure what I have but what is worse: the infection or the medication? I plan to stop taking it.

My son Emmett was put on Omnicef for pneumonia and ear infection. On the second day of being on this drug he had terrible diarrhea, black and watery and he would scream every time he was pooping. He wouldn't sit and would cry if you tried to lay him down to change him-this made me think his stomach hurt pretty bad. Sometimes he would stand there and look at his stomach and just scream. On day 10 of Omnicef he had something on his stomach develop that looked like a heat rash that started off as white bumps then turned red. Two days later (2 days after the drug was all taken) the bumps became bright red and were everywhere. He also had swollen knees that were hot to the touch and wouldn't walk around. We went to the doctor and he said it was a reaction to something he ingested. He said we should give him Benadryl and just watch him. The Benadryl worked for a couple days then stopped working all together. New red spots would come back as soon as the others went away. Three days later we were headed to the ER because of swollen feet, all of his toes connected and his feet were so puffy he wouldn't stand on them, they were also hot to the touch. Luckily we saw a different doctor and he did some blood tests. It turned out he had mycoplasma infection which is also knows as walking pneumonia. He was given Zithromax and was better within 12 hours. The red spots and bumps and swollen extremities were all cleared up. I don't know if he was allergic to Omnicef because he is allergic to Penicillin or if he was just given the wrong drug for the walking pneumonia and it wasn't getting any better. It is definitely worth getting a second opinion in the same day after going through this last week.

My 4 yr old son has been on Singulair for a little over a month...prescribed after asthma attack and severe allergies. He has been a different child, extremely aggressive, out-of-control, and very hyper. I am so tired of having to get on to him constantly, and am realizing he has no control over his behavior. In addition, he just suffered another round of illness, this time also had an ear infection. Now I'm reading respiratory and ear infections are also side effects, how crazy is that?! We are stopping Singulair TODAY...I feel so bad for keeping my child on this medicine at all!!

I can not say that NuvaRing is the reason for my illnesses but I am a fitness competitor and athlete and have always been very healthy with the exception of IBS that was diagnosed 5 or 6 years ago.
I am 37 years old and started using NR in August of 2008. In late August I went to emergency for extreme pain in my back and stomach. They put me in surgery to remove what turned out to be healthy appendix. Since then I have been to the Dr constantly with fevers, sinus infections, ear infection, bronchitis and most recently am undergoing tests to find out why my kidneys and pancreas are infected. I have been on antibiotics 4 times since January.
I started putting time lines together and decided to research the NR further. After looking at many symptoms, I opted to take the NR out in April of this year and go back to the pill.
I go back for another set of tests on my kidneys and pancreas next week and hope to find all is well. I have been off antibiotics now for 3 weeks and no sinus, ear or upper respiratory infections for the first time in month.
This is all unfortunate because I did appreciate the convenience of the NR but I am not willing to risk my health.

I went to doctor because I thought I had an ear infection. He looked at me and said I have a little fluid in my ear. He prescribed Amox. Didn't work. I then went back and he prescribed Sulfameth. I began taking two pills a day for a probable sinus infection (never had one before Im 41 yrs. old). I immediately felt like my world was crashing down on me. Im am dizzy all day, my glands are swollen and have dry mouth. I cant sleep and have nausea which is probably why Im depressed. I however continue to take this medication hoping that it will eventually work. Im on day five and feel terrible. Today I go for a CT scan of my nasal area. Pray, Ive never been so miserable in my life!

I'm a 34 y/o female. I've had a double ear infection and a swollen lymph node for nearly three weeks - I was on a 10 day course of augmenting which did nothing for the infection. I went back to the doctor's yesterday - I was given a 10 day dose of Avelox. I took my first pill at 5pm about an hour later I was feeling very itchy, twenty minutes after that my face and chest broke out in huge angry hives. I wasn't having trouble breathing, but the itching was out of control - I also had the bad stomach pains. I woke up this morning and there are still several hives on my face that are huge and sore. I will never take Avelox again, and I'm telling everyone I know to stay far away from it. It should be pulled!

I am 19 male and i finished my z-pack medication two days ago and i still have a ringing in both of my ears. I can't hear anything out of both ears except if you yell into my ear. I took it because my ear drum ruptured and i had an ear infection in both ears. Now what? I guess this will last up to 10 days, but i am scared to see if this is normal or not. I didn't feel any different when i was taking the pills, just a fever every now and then and a headache once or twice (nothing worth complaining)...but i hope i get better soon because i am in college and i can't hear what my professors are saying..lol

I would never recommend this to anyone. For 6 months I was on Junel FE 1/20, which was perfect, with no side affects what so ever. I changed my birth control to loestrin 24 FE, 3 weeks ago and I feel like I’m losing my mind. The first side effect that happened was extremely red dry skin on my face, which didn’t seem like a big deal at the begging, nothing moisturizer couldn’t fix. So I decided to stick it out, then my eyes started to become extremely irritated, I have trouble putting on my contacts and when I do I can only keep them on for a few hours before it becomes unbearable. My eyes become so irrigated it looks like I’ve been crying for hours. Now recently I have an ear infection, that doesn’t seem to want to go away. I have been prescribed eye drops, ear drops and purchased aveno for the dry skin. This has to be the worst experience I’ve had with birth control. The worst part it I have to wait to get off of it until I finish all the pills, according to my doctor. So I have two more weeks of hell left, if I would have known the side effects I would have never started it, I would never recommend it to anyone, it’s not worth it.

I have many of the same symptoms as everyone else... miserable stomach pain, diarrhea, terrible headache and heartburn. this drug is awful. I've never had this sort of reaction to an antibiotic before. Today is only day 4 and i'm afraid to take the pills. Has anyone heard that the side effects get better as your body gets used to the drugs?? I'm in the middle of taking exams and I was worried about this throat and ear infection interfering with my studying. I think I could have managed the infection better than these drugs.

I was prescribed a 14 day course on the 9th March, I experienced headache, burning of the throat when taking the tablets. But now am concerned because I have missed a period and just feel very tired, anxious and feel very low, not my normal self. Can anyone advise if they have had experience of missed periods and how long before your cycle goes back to normal.

Thanks for your help

Kind regards

My son was given Omnicef to treat an ear infection one day before his first birthday in 2003. The next morning after his first dose he woke up covered from head to toe in a horrible rash. His eyes were swollen almost completely shut, and he was "zoned" out. He obviously was in lots of pain and very cranky and couldn't sleep. We took him to the ER twice, first time the doctor said he must be allergic to the Omnicef but isn't experiencing any discomfort. Several hours later, well after midnight, he still was very cranky and couldn't sleep and we took him back to the ER where the doctor gave him an injection of Benadryl. My son from that point was very "difficult", horrible melt-downs, no eye-contact, no communication, except for his violent melt-downs. This lasted for years.

My son (14 years old) was given levaquin for a sinus and ear infection
2 weeks ago. Around the same time he began practices for his high school baseball team. He complained about his legs being stiff and aching. We assumed it was the intense practices causing his muscles to ache. After a week on the drug, he could barely walk and his knees were swollen. We were very concerned and looked up the side effects of levaquin on the internet. We were shocked and angry when we found out that levaquin should not be given to children under the age of 18 because on the possibility of joint and tendon problems. Today we went to the orthopedist and he drained a lot of fluid off of both knees (it looked like about a 1/2 cup from each). The doctor thinks it has to be a side effect of the drug, because the symptoms began at the same time. He doesn't
think after examining the knee and having him perform certain tasks that he has damaged any tendons. He has all the symptoms of rheumatiod arthritis. He is very athletic and plays competitive sports and we are praying that his knees are not permanently damaged by this drug. Parents please research all drugs and there side effects before giving them to your children! Doctor's DO make mistakes!! The pharmacist failed us too.

I started using the nuvaring 2 months ago, and just recently got a yeast infection. I'm not sure if it's from the nuvaring though, because I was on Augmentin for an ear infection as well. Anyways, I have gained about 5 pounds while on it and have had quite a few mood swings. I've also noticed that I have been a little depressed lately. I'm supposed to take it out on Thursday and I think I will just quit altogether.

I got the Mirena in August 2008 after having our second child. We thought it was a great idea b/c I wasn't ready for my husband to have a vasectomy in case we ever did change our mind about having more children. Although, we definitely have decided that we won't have anymore. Anyways, I have had spotting ever since and the three months of spotting is a joke because it has been way longer than that! The last two days I have had SEVERE lower back pain through the tops of my legs aching. Reminded me of having back labor it was so terrible. I couldn't sleep at night good because it was awful. I called my doc today and I am having it removed tomorrow. Can't wait!!!! I just wished I had read this website before I had decided on Mirena. And the comment I read about the hurt you experience having it inserted is the darn truth! If I had knew that I wouldn't have gotten it either. Besides that, my doc had to clamp my cervix while trying to insert it...so needless to say it was horrible!!!!!!!

My 3 month old son was prescribed Omnicef for an ear infection, once a day for ten days. I was on the same drug for a sinus infection and the doctor felt that since I was breast feeding the baby and I should be on the same drug. First dose was Sunday night. On Monday my son developed red spots on his legs. On Tuesday he woke up with a rash all over his face/ears/neck basically all over his body. It progressively got worse that day with his eye lids swelling, and his hands being swollen. The Dr. took him immediately off the antibiotic and prescribed Benadryl every 6 hours. By Thursday the rash started to go away and on Friday he was rash free. The rash on his body was a mixture of a "flat" rash and a "raised" rash. No other symptoms and was a very happy child eating and sleeping normal. I was freaking out because he just looked awful, like he was sunburned all over body. Now I want to know if this will be a permanent reaction or something he will out grow? Pharm said Omnicef is a good drug and one that the newer drugs are being developed off of. J.

Wish I had found this info last night.
Ive been on the medication for 8 days. All was well until yesterday afternoon when my face got beet red. I didn't think much of it since my face does flush at times.
Last night, it seemed to be traveling down my neck and shoulders.
When I woke this morning, red face was still there but now I had broken out is rashes all over my body. As of right now they are still there and starting to itch.
I was on this medication for ear infection and also for UTI.
Never would have thought with 1 pill left Id break out in a reaction like this.
Hope it goes away soon.
Benadryl isn't helping me much

I'll be sure to add this to my list of medications not to take.

Our son has a non-allergic rash to penicillin at age 1, so he was put on zithromax to cure his bronchitis. Since then, he's had no antibiotics. Until last week, at age 6-and-a-half, when the doctor diagnosed an ear infection. He's been on Omnicef for a week, and has been very irritable! Flies off the handle at any moment, growls at his siblings... he has just generally lost the ability to "deal" with things. Our younger son has been on Omnicef twice for ear infections, and has had NO adverse reactions to it, other than some very loose stool, which is almost expected. I guess it works differently for each person!

In Feb 2005 I was prescribed biaxin for an ear infection. It was a 14 day supply. I started to take it and with in 24 hrs I felt worst than I did before I went to the dr.
Over the next 14 days I called the Dr. 4 times and each time I was told that if I just take the biaxin I will get better. I did as I was told.
In 30 days I lost 31 pounds from vomiting. Over 60 days I lost 51 pounds. My Dr. finally did blood work and my triglycerides were at 7700. No that is not a miss print. My sugar went to 395. My blood pressure was off the scale.
My Dr. got the results of my blood test and told me I was a diabetic and put me on Metformin and set an appointment for 30 days later. This was the same day I was told my triglycerides were 7700. I was not hospitalized. I was not even to be seen again for 30 days.
I now know what that meant. I was within minutes of dying and my Dr. tried to hide it. He could not have cared wheither I died or got better as long as no one else found out what happened.
Now, after 3 yrs of living a life similar to what I think hell would be like and after seeing specialist and different Dr. they tell me I have pancreas damage and I will be on prescriptions for the rest of my life.
The Dr.'s know what Biaxin does to your body. They don't care! I was ignored for 2 weeks when I called them. Now I will pay for the rest of My life. THANK YOU FAMILY PRACTICE.

I am thirteen and a female. I had throat inflammation, swelling of my sinuses, and an ear infection. The doctor gave me a cortozone shot and recommended a z-pack. About 2 hours after i took the first dose i got severe stomach cramps, nausea, dizziness and loss of hearing. I keep having to run to the bathroom because i feel like im going to puke. I keep sweating too and i feel hot and sticky. I hope the side effects wear off soon but after reading these comments i don't think i'll be that lucky. I don't plan on taking this again. The side effects are worse than actually being sick.

I started taking this drug on 1/14/09. On 1/21/09, I started breaking out in hives. By 10pm that night, I felt like I had rolled around in attic insulation. It felt like I had tiny pins and needles sticking me everywhere! ... it was awful!! - I was given this drug to treat an ear infection. I'm now on prednisone (50 mg for several days, and then tapering off). I'm now wondering if my ENT doctor is a goof?

My 2 year old daughter has had similar experiences on Omnicef. She was prescribed it for an ear infection on Wednesday, by Thursday afternoon she was inconsolable. Normally, she goes to bed at night with no problems and sleeps straight through to 8 am. It took about 2 hours to get her to calm down enough to lie down, then we had to let her cry before she finally went to sleep. She woke at 5am the next morning and cried for 2.5 hours saying 'No, no, no' even though we weren't asking her to do anything or have anything. Then she refused all food, drink, rocking, etc. She seemed as if she was having a night terror while completely awake for 2 + hours. I agree that more research should be done on this drug.

Today is Christmas day 2008. And a Merry Christmas to me ha!!!!!!!! I was given a prescription for the drug Levaquin on the 19th of December for a suspicion of pneumonia. The x rays done at the hospital found no evidence of pneumonia but my doctor wanted me to take it anyway because since I have asthma and my lungs sounded so bad I was told that I was at risk for developing any secondary infection that was out there. My husband filled the prescription on the 20th which was Saturday, took the first one of a seven day supply 500 mg tablets. About 4 hours after taking just one pill was awakened by severe and agonizing pain in both of my feet and my knees that I was writhing in pain. Since I have nerve damage in my feet anyhow I know what the pain that I normally experience feels like and instantly knew that this was not normal for me. When I thought that I finally might be able to walk I hobbled into the kitchen and dug the list of side affects out of the garbage (stupid me had not read them first.) I discovered that it was one of the side affects. Called the on call doctor in the morning since it was on the weekend and he stopped it immediately and put me on something else. I only took that one pill and since Saturday night every night I wake up in agonizing knee pain and I have never had pains in my knees before. The pain is so bad that I feel like I am ready to go on a morphine drip, or cut my legs off above the knees. Six days now from one pill, how much longer can this go on? I really feel bad for the people that contined to trust their doctors and continued with the full course of the medication and I realize that what I am experiencing is minor compared to what others are going through. This drug should come with a handout that says: Take this drug at a risk to your health!!!!!! Last night the pain lasted all night and I cried all night. Have to get through this day am entertaining for the holiday and have had no sleep. Actually getting afraid to go to sleep at this point.............D.
