I started levquin last night at 8pm for a sinus & ear infection & stayed up all night with a Fever over 100. I am also experiencing myalgia & chills. The order is 500mg po qd & I just assumed my body was fighting off the infection when I spiked a fever. I hope these serious side effects are suppose to be expected. I haven't had any type of infection for years & have had both seasonal & h1n1 flu shots this year.

I'm a 20-year-old female who was diagnosed with a UTI and a minor ear infection. I have been on both Doxycycline and Ciprofloxacin twice, but the symptoms have returned each time, or not gone away at all. My doctor was initially going to give me Macrobid as a third option, but decided to prescribe Avelox instead. The Cipro had given me a little nausea, but that was usually remedied by eating before taking the medicine.

Avelox is nothing like the last two drugs.

I've only taken one pill so far, and within about two hours of it (I had gotten into bed for the night), I started feeling jittery and restless. It got so bad that I tossed and turned for most of the night, and could barely function at work the next morning. I ended up leaving early and skipping my class for the day. I have a history of panic attacks / anxiety disorder, but with how long my symptoms have persisted makes me think that it's not "all in my head" like other times, especially after reading many of these reviews.

Along with the sleeplessness, my hands have felt a little rubbery (I guess slightly numb?), my head feels swollen (more than it had been previously due to my cold/ear infection), I'm a little dizzy/nauseous, my muscles ache, my mouth feels dry, and my jaw keeps twitching. I thought I was going crazy, so I called my doctor.

She told me "this is a side effect of your infections" and to "keep taking the Avelox, but drink lots of water." I believe the water part of her advice is sound, but for some reason I get the feeling that my symptoms are NOT a part of my infection. I've had the UTI chronically for about a year or so, and the cold for about two weeks. ONLY SINCE I TOOK AVELOX have I had the other symptoms. From what I've read, I'm definitely not alone. Perhaps I should switch doctors.

I hate Omnicef! I took this drug to treat an ear infection. After I finished the entire Rx I started to develop an allergic reaction. I was in bed one night & my bottom lip started to swell. The next morning I went to the Dr & they gave me a steroid shot. My lips were better w/ in 30 min., but a few days later my lips started to swell AGAIN!!! Of course I went to the doctor and got ANOTHER steroid shot. This happend 4 or 5 times. I even had to take a medical leave FROM WORK for an entire MONTH b/c of this stupid drug. I hated dealing w/ this & would have rather my throat swell up & die in my sleep than deal w/ looking like I had just been punched in the face!

I am a 27 year old female. I was prescribed Avelox by my ENT for an ongoing ear infection. I started taking the medication immediately and felt no side effects UNTIL the 7th night. This medication caused me to have a SEIZURE. I have had no health problems in the past and have NEVER had a seizure.

I was taken to the ER to make sure that everything was ok. While the paramedic was explaining to the nurse the medication I was on for my ear infection, she seemed to be surprised that I was on such a strong medication for an ear infection. I had multiple test, cat scan, blood work, chest xray, picture of my heart taken, and all results seemed to have come back negative.

Now I have to get an MRI and brain wave scan to make sure that I will not continue to have seizures.

I would HIGHLY recommend that you DO NOT take this medication. I was very hesitant to take it in the first place after reading the LONG list of side effects, but figured a doctor prescribed it to me, so I SHOULD be okay.

It has been 7 days since my seizure and I still do not feel 100%. I'm very weak, tired, occasionally feel from time to time like I am going to pass out, get nervous feeling and have shaking.

Please beware of this medication.

I am 16 years old and i got the two shots of the Gardasil. Since that shot, I have been getting irregular periods, chest pain, lower abdominal pain, back pain and have been feeling really depressed. I have been to the hospital three times from this august till December, with symptoms of the flue, a rash on my face, 102 degree fever, bloody nose, ear infection, and the list goes on. I am happy to know I am not the only one going through these pains and i was worried about my periods because now they are always irregular and i don't know when i get them now... can someone please tell me what i going on with me?

29, female - I hardly ever go to the doctor; am on no daily medication. I am a teacher so I frequently pick up little bugs but I usually shake them quickly. However, three weeks ago I started to get a sore throat and developed an ear infection so intense it sent me to the ER in the middle of the night. I was prescribed amoxicillin and my pain subsided, but my ears remained clogged. Ten days later I went to an urgent care doctor who gave me prednisone for my inflamed ears and advised me to take mucinexD. A week later, the overall infection got worse spreading to my sinuses and chest. I went back to the urgent care center and asked to be treated aggressively because I was tired of being sick for so long and my symptoms were getting worse. The nurse practitioner told me I have bronchitis and prescribed a z-pak and I thought, finally! Now I'll get better. I have learned that better is relative. I took my first dose of two pills yesterday and did not eat for the rest of the day. I did force myself to drink water so as not to become dehydrated. I took one bite of pizza and the moment it hit my stomach I knew it was a bad idea. I did not have diarrhea but I think thats only because I had nothing in me. I got chills and my skin felt creepy. I started to think negatively about the person I was hanging out with. I went to bed only to wake up freaked out and anxious many times. My dreams were vivid, frightening, completely unpleasant. About two hours after laying down I got up and had to vomit; out came all the water I made myself drink. Today I woke up and my cold symptoms are mostly gone but about 30 minutes after taking my second dose of the z-pac I felt spaced out, unable to concentrate, negative, my skin super-creepy. I just wanted the day to pass. I watched a movie and some episodes of Cops and felt like my life was approaching a dead end. I actually feared ending up like the prostitutes and street people of the show. My thoughts spiraled, I wanted to break up with my boyfriend, feared he was going to break up with me, contemplated a career change, all the while enduring ringing in my ears and a sense of dread and meaninglessness. And then I looked up side effects of the z-pak and saw that many people have similar emotional reactions to it. I feel better knowing its the drug making me feel this way, but I wish I had known before taking it. I do not think I am going to continue this medicine tomorrow. I can't wait until it is out of my system. I'd rather be sick than feel the way this medicine makes me feel.

I haven't had the need to take antibiotics for over 9 years, and due to a severe ear infection began taking amoxicillin (500 mg/2x/day). I have experienced trouble sleeping, a headache (behind the eyes) that won't quite, itching all over my body, vomiting, and horrible depression. I've cried over the slightest things over the last few days and thought I was going crazy until I read these other accounts. Thanks for letting me know I'm not losing it!

My 3 month old daughter was prescribed the generic for omnicef for an ear infection. It did clear up the infection, but caused horrible diarrhea during and after the 10 day treatment. She even had the watery red stools that were very scary but later found out that it is a normal (but alarming) side effect of the drug. My main concern was that the diarrhea continued for 2 weeks after the treatment was finished and showed no signs of clearing up. I spoke with my pediatrician about it and he suggested that she was suffering from a temporary lactose intolerance caused by the antibiotic. I switched to a soy formula and the very next day the diarrhea cleared up! It was such a relief, I had the unreasonable fear that somehow this drug had permanently damaged my infants digestive system. If you have an infant that is suffering from diarrhea well after the treatment was completed, I would suggest talking to you pediatrician about temporarily switching to a lactose free formula.

I was prescribed Avelox for a sinus and ear infection. I have been taking it for a week now and honestly don't feel much better. With amoxicillin or omnicef, I would have felt better on day 2 of the antibiotic. I haven't had any of the severe side effects anyone else has, but I do feel just "out of it." It's like I've had a "brain fart" all week! I've been extremely forgetful and lethargic.

My daughter is about to turn 5, she was prescribed SMZ-TMP a few days ago in order to prevent another ear infection.
She has been having terrible diarrhea, which is obviously normal, but along with that she started vomiting, she is now vomiting every time after taking the medication. She has a loss of appetite and has barely ate anything in the past 3 days! The poor thing has been battling diarrhea while throwing up at the same time along with terrible stomach pain/cramps. I am calling the doctor first thing tomorrow morning to discuss discontinuation of medication etc.

My daughter was put on Singulair 2 weeks ago after discovering she is allergic to 4 kinds of trees that are pollinating in the fall and a certain mold that grows in corn and bean fields. Everything was going well until she got an ear infection and was put on the antibiotic amoxicillin which she has used off and on when she's had ear infections over the years. She then broke out in the hives. She has never had the hives before. I'm guessing it could be a combination of the two drugs. Why aren't doctors aware of this before prescribing this medication?

I am 36 year old female and was prescribed Avelox for an ear infection and sinus infection. By day 5 I discontinued taking the drug. I've never had such a bad reaction to a medication. By day 5, I had major dizziness (the room was spinning), my heart was beating fast and I felt like I was going to pass out. I had a burning sensation along the back of my neck and a tightness in the left side of my chest. I had a headache and some nausea but felt completely out of it. My hands and feet jerked by themselves. I felt anxious and didn't know what else to do but go and lay down in bed. I tried to keep calm but then I started sobbing like a kid whose family pet died ( I can't remember the last time I cried). I was afraid to go to bed fearing that I would not wake up. What the heck... I will never take Avelox again.

After experiencing these effects, I looked on-line and found this site. Glad to know I'm not alone. I did go to sleep only to have mega weird dreams about motor vehicle accidents along the highway and eating a live crab/lobster creature only to have to bury it in the garden for a bunny??? Crazy and WTF ?!

My experience with Avelox was horrible. I was prescribed Avelox for an ear infection, I had tried two others and it still didn't clear up, so my doctor gave me this prescription. I only took one dose and that was it for me, no more! I was suppose to take it for 7 days, but couldn't after the first. Half hour after taking it I felt strange, I wasn't myself. Half hour after that I felt really nausea, then half hour after that I went on my computer to do some stuff and couldn't type, couldn't press the buttons on my mouse, I felt like I was rubber, my mouth went dry..no matter how much I drank it was still dry. Talking was hard, felt like I was slurring all the time and concentrating was impossible! I felt like I wasn't myself, my neck swelled up..I ended up going to the ER, was told by the doctors there that I had gotten an allergic reaction to the medication. NEVER AGAIN AM I TAKING A DRUG LIKE THIS!!! I just finished flushing it out of my system and feel much better off it now.

I had the shot for a bad outbreak of eczema. This was a last resort thing. I'm not usually for taking any form of medicine other than natural stuff. The doctor warned that the possible side effects would be muscle spams and high blood sugar. She never mention anything about irregular periods or weaken immune system. I just had my period 15 days before I had the shot and a couple days after the shot I got my period. I few days later I got the stomach flu. While still having my period. Then a week later I had a ear infection. I still have my period. I emailed the dermatologist explaining the symptoms I was having, she informed me that its a side effect of the shot. She failed to mention it before taking the shot. I don't want to take another drug like birth control pills to cure something a drug caused in the first place. I'm now on day 17. My period has never been irregular. I'm a healthy 30yr old. Does anyone know if this goes away on its on? What are things you can do to naturally cure this? I appreciate any advice.

I'm so glad I found this website - thanks to all of you who have shared. I had a Kenalog injection in May 09 and about a couple of months ago noticed an indentation in the side of my leg. I had it given in my leg instead of buttocks due to other health issues currently going on. It is sore sometimes and hurts sometimes when I bend down or exercise. I also had abnormal periods for several months and didn't realize that it was related to the injection. I had a sinus infection/ear infection and had to get on a plane to go out of the country the next day, otherwise I would have never done this. No one mentioned (or I think knew) anything about the possible muscle/skin side effects. Does anyone know about a class action suit regarding this? I've already made a report with the FDA. I am working with a dr that is doing soft tissue work on it weekly, this does seem to be helping, the indentation decreases quite a bit, but it the indentation increases if I don't have the soft tissue work. I'm hoping I won't have to have plastic surgery to fix this, but looks like I will looking at all the other postings. Does anyone know of a class action law suit regarding this? I tried the person listed in Delaware's e-mail listed on the posting, but it wouldn't go thru.

18 yr old female here...This is my 5th day taking Amoxicillin, it was my first time taking it, didn't get a allergic reaction yet, this medication makes me feel nauseous all day, i can barely eat a whole plate of food, i only eat 1/3rd of it, i feel weak, depressed, unsteady, a little itchy, and i got gassy this morning and farted a lot lol, i had mild diarrhea, i think i might've gotten a yeast infection, and i just feel gloomy and quiet, i feel distant and i have to force myself to get out of bed and do anything, eating is the worst part i force myself to do, i also became sensitive to bright light and noise, and it made me feel unsteady like if i was going to pass out, i am using this medicine to treat my ear infection because i get vertigo from it. I have Menieres Disease...

I have been taking Levaquin for four days now and am suffering from serious lower leg pain, weakness in my right hand, nausea, my skin feels so hot all the time and not able to sleep. I am sure the Levaquin is causing this as this all started right after taking the first pill. I did not get an information sheet from the pharmacy that there were serious side effects to this drug. I was prescribed Levaquin for a sinus / ear infection because I am allergic to Zithromax (my liver reacts negatively with this antibiotic). I will not be continuing the course of antibiotic and hope the pain stops.

If you do not think your doctor is listening...find another. In mho doctors are to ready and will to prescribe medications for issues. Ive been off Lisinopril for two days now and feel really weird. I went to the ER thinking I was having a stroke. Turns out it must be a Sinus\ear infection that was throwing my balance of...like being on a boat 24\7 and sea sick non stop. Anyway while in the hospital they said my BP was high and put me on 20 mg of Lisinopril. I am not sure how much of what I am feeling has been caused by this drug or the infection. All I know if that I feel "out of it" today. Can anyone else who has stopped using this drug tell me what they went through

I was prescribed Bactrim for an ear infection. A few days after taking it my lymph nodes in my neck became terribly painful and swollen. On the 8th day of the meds I have developed a rash on my arms, chest and face. I returned to the doctor today. He said that the rash is just a heat rash, and that the lymph nodes are just infected and prescribed another antibiotic! I spoke to my mother and sister and they are both very allergic to Sulpher based antibiotics. It looks like I am too. Glad that I read the post. I will never take that med again. I am nervous to stop the med at day 11 when I was prescribed for 14 days but I can't take these side effects any longer.

I am 40 years old and recently went to my medical facility as I have had a "viral" ear infection for almost a year now, and it is concerning me. I do not take medication typically. My new primary care provider recommended I try Singulair. So far I have taken three doses over three nights. The first night was horrifying, the dreams I had were so scary, and they were tied into reality which was even stranger as the drug also makes you wake up often, then when you fall back asleep your awake time ties into your dreams. I woke up in a numb state. Since then, I also have been extremely agitated, dizzy, mouth sores, acne, fuzzy thinking, light headed and severe fatigue and body aches. Thank goodness I checked out this webpage, as I too will stop taking this drug. I find it very disappointing, how are we suppose to be able to trust our medical professionals to help us with one of our most prized possessions, our bodies, when we are given something to clear up an ear infection only to have it affect numerous other aspects of our lives to such a serious degree with no mention from our medical professionals. This is ridiculous. I guess I'll live with the viral ear infection.......

Headache or Migraine sufferers BEWARE! I was prescribed this medication for an upper respiratory and double ear infection. After a week of taking the medication I have been laid up with migraines and headaches that come and go for days. Every morning I am severely nauseous and have vomited four times. I really want to cure what I have but what is worse: the infection or the medication? I plan to stop taking it.
