I am a 38 yo female. Took bactrim for UTI. Two and half days into treatment, I could not sleep. Strange dreams, agitation. Next day, absolute feeling of panic, anxiety, restlessness, loss of appetite, weakness in hands, confusion, sweating, heavy heartbeat. Went to ER, they were unfamiliar with this reaction. Seems to take quite awhile to get the medication out of your system. I will never take bactrim again.

I have had the mirena for almost 2 1/2 years, it was not too bad to begin with although I did develop a bartholins cyst which I was told could have been due to this coil being fitted, not very pleasant I can tell you! Anyway, apart from feeling a bit tired and nauseus every 3 months or so it was not too bad for the first year, but since then my symptoms just seem to be there almost all the time. I even tested for pregnancy earlier this week because I feel so nauseus particularly on waking up in the morning, I also feel lethargic, have lower abdominal pain, difficulty concentrating, dizzy spells, constant discharge, very sore breasts, hot flushes at night and cold spells at any time of the day, I could go on. I eat healthily, train at karate 4 times per week, had my blood pressure taken in Asda this week 112/83 which I am told is good. So, I have come to the conclusion that with time this coil is making me feel unwell, I could never take the pill as it made me feel awful and I tried the injection which made me feel even worse. Nothing else for it, I have 4 children already, I can't have any more, it would not be practical or fair to my family, so I am going to be sterilised (if I can get my doctor to agree). I also need to get my doctor to agree to remove this coil, I am not taking no for an answer, I know my body and I am 99.9% sure that it is the Mirena that is causing the problems.

My 3-year old daughter has had recurrent bronchitis and allergies for over a year now. She's been on antibiotics constantly, and we're looking at having her tonsils removed. Her ped suggested that maybe she has asthma and her infections are secondary to that, so maybe try Singulair. We filled the prescription, but I didn't give it to her based on what I read here.

During the next few months, we repeated bronchial infections and antibiotics. Finally we had to try prophylatic antibiotics. She got all gunky and wheezy again...but no fever so at least no infection but she was obviously wheezing and congested, so we decided it probably was asthma and decided to try Singulair (this was earlier this week). Not only has she recovered from her latest congestion problem quickly, her behavior has actually improved (?) as in only 1 tantrum in the last two days, her appetite is way up, and she actually slept through the night last night (first time in 3 years). I think she feels so much better, and it has so far been wonderful for her.

About 2 months ago, I was prescribed Sulfameth/Trimethoprim 800/160 tabs for an inflamed, swollen nose which extended to puffiness and an apparent fluid sac under my left eye -- the actual cause for this infection has not been determined.

The doctor prescribed a 14-day supply (1 tablet, twice daily), and said I could stop taking it after 10 days if I wanted, or finish out the supply if I so desired. After about 5 days, the swelling had pretty much subsided, particularly under the eye, but I continued taking the medication through the 13th day. During the first 12 days, I did not notice any adverse reactions.

However, on the 13th day, just after getting out of the shower, I noticed red welts on my chest and back, purple splotches on the underside of my upper arms, and generalized redness across the rest of my body and limbs. I did not immediately associate these symptoms with the antibiotic, because the first 12 days had not caused me any problems.

However, a friend theorized that it might be an allergic reaction to the antibiotic, and suggested I stop taking it to see if the symptoms subsided. Since I had only two tablets left, I decided to heed the suggestion, and the redness did go away after about 2 days. I resolved to tell the doctor about this reaction on my next visit, but have not been back there yet.

Earlier this week, I experienced the beginnings of similar tenderness and swelling on the left side of my nose, and still do not know what might be the cause for this. I decided on Wednesday morning to take one of the remaining two tablets of Sulfameth/Trimethoprim, and within an hour or two began to itch a lot -- primarily on the back but also on the arms. I thought that taking a shower might relieve the symptoms, and it did somewhat.

Around dinner time, I took the second (my last one) remaining tablet, and about an hour later went out to join some friends. I had a slight headache and took an Ibuprofin tablet just before going out. Within the second hour, I began to feel chills (even though I was wearing ample layers of clothing), and the headache had not diminished -- so I took another Ibuprofin. The symptoms seemed indicative of a low-grade fever.

After excusing myself and going home, I laid down to watch TV, and the chills got so bad that I was obliged to curl up under a blanket, even after turning up the central heat. The headache got so intense, I had to hold an icepack against my temples and forehead for some relief. Later, when I took my temperature, the fever had progressed to 102 degrees; still later, it had climbed to 104. This worried me, since I have read that brain damage can occur at 105 degrees.

During this time, I decided to switch (from Ibuprofin) to taking three aspirins, to see if that might be more effective in reducing the fever, but it persisted at 104 degrees for all of the night and into the next morning. I made a point of drinking lots of fluids (water & juice) and tried sleeping, but woke up about every two hours.

On Thursday, about mid-day, the fever finally began to subside -- though I noticed a fatigue and soreness in my calf muscles, most pronounced if I stood in one position for more than a minute or so. The only relief was to move about, or to sit down.

By evening, my temperature was back to normal and I felt well enough to visit with some friends again. However, several hours after returning home, I felt dehydrated and had another headache; my temperature was back at 102 degrees. I drank more fluids, took aspirins, and had another night of fitful sleep.

By Friday afternoon, my temperature had reduced to about 100 degrees, and my calf muscles still displayed the same symptoms of soreness, as though I had over-exercised them. It's a very uncomfortable feeling.

Lesson learned: I will be asking my doctor to note in my file that I am allergic to sulfa-based meds, and hope that normalcy returns over the next few days. I have also gained a deeper appreciation for the manner in which the human body fights off foreign substances! ;-)

Hi,
Earlier this week, I started taking Levaquin for strep throat. My regular doctor was out of town , so I went to a walk in clinic. Anyway, two later, I woke up with the worst spasms in my left shoulder and arm. I could barely lift my arm without screaming out in pain. The next morning, my right arm and shoulder were affected as well. I have had depression and bouts of sudden tears over the past five days. I read what you wrote after looking up side effects on the internet, and called my own doctor asap, since he had returned to work by then. He said that Levaquin was a very strong drug, and overkill medicine for strep throat. I mentioned my pains and he said that he knew Leva quin caused damage to children and teens, but not to adults. So I took it again, but the next day, the pain increased. It was a Saturday, so I called the covering doctor who said it was probably my Lipitor causing the pain. I told him I had taken Lipitor for three years without difficulty, he said that side effects from it can suddenly crop up. However, he did take me off the Levaquin and gave me the 5 day Z-pack.
When I picked up the new prescription at the drug store, I asked the pharmacist about Levaquin, and she said that more and more cases of damaged Achilles tendons and shoulder and arm problems were being reported due to Levicon. She asked if she should put it as a drug I am allergic to on my chart at the pharmacy. I said emphatically to list it. I went home and through out every levicon I had left. Obviously the makers of Levicon have kept this side effect pretty quiet. It is listed as a precaution, but it doesn't seem to stress enough what damage it can do.
If doctors aren't aware of this, the general public certainly wouldn't know, and yet so many cases are written up on the internet.
I think that it wopn't be too long until there IS a major law suit.
I hope my pain doesn't last, but if it lasts more than a week, I won't sit back and do nothing. I care too much about others who could be affected adversely by a dangerous drug.

I posted earlier this week about the chest pains and anxiety issues I was having with Yasmin and I am happy to now say that I have been Yasmon free for 3 days now and the chest pains are rapidly going away!! I have had them very mildly the past 2 days and hardly NONE at all today. I was only on Yasmin for 2& 1/2 months so I am hoping not to have to suffer through what a lot of you ladies have been through.

Once again, I am so happy to have found this site!!! Very, very helpful and I find it very useful to read others stories too. Best wishes to you all going through this!!

Dec. 9, 2004 - earlier this week (2-3 days ago) I wrote an item about my side effects of prednisone. I think I failed to give my e-mail address which is ******. I wrote regarding rying to get off and about the burning I have around my rib cage and breasts. I guess I will have to try and rewrite it. Sorry about this. Barb ***

My husband took his fourth levaquin earlier this evening to fight a urinary tract infection diagnosed earlier this week. He is now having his second largely sleepless night, feeling headachy, anxious, and like he is on the verge of a nervous breakdown -- not at all a characteristic state for him to be in. He is now forcing even more fluids to try flushing the levaquin out of his system -- I wish we had checked this page before he started taking it -- this is not the kind of information included in the material from the pharmacy.

I went to the doctor earlier this week with cold/flu like symptoms, and the doctor prescribed levaquin. I then began to feel very sore in my neck and shoulders, and became very nauseous. I decided to see what would happen if I skipped one dose a few nights back. The result was waking up and feeling great. So, just to be sure, I took a dose of Levaquin when I got to work this morning...and, during lunch, I ran to the bathroom and "got rid of lunch"...and the achiness has also returned. Needless to say, I will not be taking it any longer, and the remaining pills in the bottle will soon find the same path that my lunch did.
